The ATHLAB is a great place to work out for a few reasons. The coaching is very good. The classes are very challenging but not to over the top. Anyone can join in and work at their comfort level and not feel the pressure of not keeping up with the class. I highly recommend that anyone trying to change there life style and there health, to come to a class and experience it for them selves.

Ray Spaulding, been there since January '24, open gym membership. Access to terrific equipment, and if you lift barefoot barefoot like me, that's fine too. Her Strength on the other side of the Circle allows full barefoot, so it's very welcoming that Joe Sindoni allows full barefoot too. Highly recommend.

I’ve been training at Athlab for a while now and I can’t say enough good things about it! The semi-private training they offer is the perfect balance — you get practically the same amount of attention as personal training but it makes each session much more affordable. If you’ve never formally worked with a trainer before honestly it is a game changer. Joe who is the owner has a novel approach to training and is always introducing me to new movements that keep the workouts interesting and effective (and I’ve been strength training for a long time now so that says a lot coming from me!). He’ll meet you wherever you are in your fitness level and is always able to make modifications throughout the workouts as needed. The atmosphere in the gym is never intimidating or crowded, it would be great environment for anyone starting out who wants to get into strength training or anyone who is tired of competing for space or racks at the bigger gyms in the area. All around I highly recommend!

Place is really getting run down. Sold of equipment including the only multiple function machine, steps are used and have the former owners names on them (Whitlock). Own has become rude and un attentive, they have a paper beat up sign saying Flush in the men's urinal. Sad it used to be good but wow what a change. Wrong and over billing, and to think I went out of my way for this owner to help with business advice for hours to be then be treat so poorly. Maybe one day he will grow up communicate with his clients like a business owner instead of like a Winnie child.

I cannot recommend Jon, Joe and his team enough. I walked in over a year ago not knowing anything other than cardio. I took personal training with Jon for almost a year and transformed myself, before switching to group classes. They will help you every step of the way. I joined group classes over 7 years ago – never having worked out a day in my life – and I have absolutely loved the experience and I have never felt stronger or more fit in my life! Daily workouts vary so there is never a time to get complacent, and the workouts build from week 1 to week 4 every month. Although I've only spent a month with this gym it's safe to say that this place is a godsend haha. Joe and Jon are great guys, very kind, very helpful and very attentive to your needs as personal trainers. I am leaving after a month because they were just a bit too pricey and out of they way from my home after work but who am I to talk I am just a college grad making new grad money lol. If I had more money and they were closer I would definitely make this my permanent gym in a heartbeat. If you are still looking for a personal trainer look no further book your assessment and get started here at the athlab to get your body right. For more experienced gym goers their open gym is a good price and they have tons of space and equipment to get your work out done.

Excellent gym.I have been working with Joe for seven years ,give or take a few months for surgeries. Joe is very good at modifying exercises when needed too, especially with me. He helped me more with my frozen shoulder than my physical therapist. He definitely pushes you to the max to get your best workout.All ages welcome at the gym. I moved to Troy from NYC and needed a hobby to keep me busy. I signed up for weekly personal training with Joe and it was the best decision I made. He was extremely attentive and accommodating to my fitness and scheduling needs as I was required to travel to and from NYC some weeks. If I wanted to learn a new workout that I saw online, he would find a way to incorporate it into my session. The gym itself was clean and never too busy, which made solo training less intimidating and more fun. This experience was definitely the highlight of my time spent in Troy, and I would recommend it to everyone, regardless of your fitness goals.

If you had told me a year ago that I’d be going to the gym multiple days a week and enjoying it, I would’ve called you a liar. Joining The Athlab has absolutely changed my perspective on being physically active and challenging myself. The 6:45AM energize classes get my day started off right and I really like that every class has a different challenging workout (and usually a great playlist too). I have some pretty significant issues with my knee and Max is always prepared to give me a modification that still challenges me but doesn’t put me at risk of injury.

Every person I’ve come in contact with at The Athlab has been friendly, kind, and supportive. I’ve seen more progress with my physical fitness in the three months of attending classes and doing workouts at The Athlab than I ever have being a member of a franchised gym.

The individual attention that you get and the customized modifications are two great highlights of the membership, but I also love that the building is always clean and there is plenty of equipment for all skill levels.

If you’re just starting on a fitness journey The Athlab is the perfect place to start. If you’re already comfortable in a gym environment The Athlab is well equipped and ready to help you continue to meet your goals. Come and try a class, you won’t be sorry!

I’ve waited almost 2 years training at The AthLab before writing a review. I wish my review could be unbiased, but the truth is I love this place. The owners and coaches(Joe, John and Noah) are some of the nicest people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. I generally do my own thing, but everyone is always friendly and say hi. They’re incredibly knowledgeable and willing to help if you ask. A friend and I joke all the time that this is the “best gym that nobody knows about”. If anyone is in the market for a new gym with no pressure, all the equipment you could need and great people, this is your place.

Started at Athlab ~3mo ago and I am loving it. The schedule includes exactly the kind of group classes I was looking (4 strength and conditioning lower body and upper body days, and 2 energy/cardio whole body days)! Currently the group includes some bada$$ women that are super motivating. The trainers Joe, John and Noah are really friendly and great at what they do. They guide and watch your form so you don’t hurt yourself. They can help if you have any questions. The gym itself is big, you can do your own thing; it’s kept clean, and people around you are friendly. Highly recommend.

I've been going to Joe at The AthLab, for his Small Group Classes, for the better part of a year and it is without a doubt the best investment I could have made in myself! I've been to big box gyms in the area and none of them have had the positive, non-judgmental vibe that the AthLab has. I never really felt comfortable doing my own workouts or using the racks/machines at other gyms since I was always self conscious that I was doing it wrong. But being in the Group Classes with Joe has been a huge confidence boost. The best part is that Joe's small group classes feel like private sessions since he is able to give individualized attention to everyone. So if you're looking for a great local gym where you can feel
good about & reach your health/ fitness goals; Go see Joe at the AthLab!

I stumbled upon The AthLab one day after work ( I worked next door) and am glad I did. Whether you're looking for trainer-led personal/group training or just need a place to weight train on your own, this is a great alternative to the big-box gyms. At no point will you be waiting for a squat rack or specific plates (there are ~15 racks here).

Having said all of that, if you're looking for a place with endless rows of exercise-specific machines and treadmills, this isn't it. Cardio equipment is limited to rowing machines, assault (air) bikes, and weight sleds. Free-weights and functional training are the stars here, so get busy.

I LOVE The Athlab. If you're somebody who doesn't know what to do in an open gym but doesn't want to pay $50 per visit for a personal trainer, this is the place for you. The cost is unbelievable for what you're getting. Each session is different so there's never a concern of some muscles getting no use. The trainers take the time to get to know you as well as your strengths and weaknesses and will modify moves in order to work for you. For example, I sprained my ankle and was still able to train because the trainers took the time to modify everything to fit my needs and abilities. Everyone who attends group training is supportive and non-judgmental. It's really like a family. I actually look forward to going to training and if you knew me, you'd know I hate working out, so that says a lot about the atmosphere and people at this gym. I HIGHLY recommend this gym even to try it out for a month or two if you're unsure. I would bet that you'll love it as much as I do.

I attend the group sessions. Joe challenges you every class. I recently had knee surgery and he makes modifications and is very conscientious to ensure you are doing exercises that are appropriate. There are all ages (20s to 60s) and abilities in the group classes. Everyone makes you feel comfortable, encourages you…no judging and misses you when you are not there. If you need encouragement, motivation or want to continuously learn new exercises this is the place to be. Every day is different. Sometimes I want to be lazy and not come, but when I am done I am always glad that I did and amazed on how well I did and how many calories I burnt!

I’ve been a member taking group classes at the AthLab for less than two months and I have already noticed fantastic results in strength, endurance and physique from attending on average just two group classes a week.

The workouts are varied and challenging in strength, balance and endurance, and I’ve had to take deep breaths to avoid fainting or vomiting. I mean this as a GOOD THING - if you aren’t challenged, you won’t progress.

Joe is an awesome coach who is supportive and attentive to individual needs, including moderating workouts to accommodate injuries. If you’re doing something with bad form, which is an ongoing struggle for people like me who are self-taught at lifting, he always notices and corrects the issue.

Cost is more than fair and there are also personal training/open gym options. Also if you’re like me and are obsessed with aliens/Star Trek, all the equipment is Vulcan brand and the logo is an alien and you can buy alien shirts with the gym logo!

Unlike many other commercial gyms we see a crossfit kind of atmosphere @ athlab. We love working out with John who is our personal trainer at Athlab. He has customized our workout plan according to our needs and every one hour session with him is unique with a variety of exercises that target specific muscle group. John is very friendly, encouraging and the same time challenges us. He makes sure we do every workout in the correct form. Our goal is to lose body fat percentage and we are in the right place ! We feel stronger after every session.

I would highly recommend Joe for a personal trainer!! I couldn’t be more pleased with the individualized personal training sessions he provides for my two teenage boys. He puts a great deal of thought into their training sessions and always ensures that they are exercising in the correct form and manner. I had been looking for a new gym that offered group training for a while when I found Xeno Athletics. There are a lot of options in this area and I really wanted to take my time and choose the right place. What drew me in to Xeno was the great price but what kept me coming was the trainer, Joe. From the minute I walked in he was extremely friendly and inviting and after nearly 7 months that attitude has never changed. The classes have a loose structure with workouts that are ever changing and always fun and engaging. Joe really knows what he is talking about and with him it is the people that come first. He is great about modifying the workouts to the various abilities of everyone in the class and always puts an emphasis on form and safety. He will motivate you and push you to the best of your ability but he will never push you to go harder than you should. When I’m there and working out I don’t ever feel like just another customer, instead I feel like I’m a part of a team. I've worked with several personal trainers, and Joe is definitely my number one! He has the know how and the patience to help you achieve your goal. Whatever your starting point is, he makes you feel like an athlete! He lets you go at your own pace, all the while making sure he pushes you.

I discovered Xeno Fitness a year ago and have found Joe's training to be purposeful, functional and very intense, but enjoyable. I look forward to the exercise classes every week. I have not been disappointed. I approached Joe with my desire to be strong and healthy and I have experience grow in strength, self confidence and discover new friendships. It is not a huge overcrowded gym, so all eyes won't be on you while you workout. The gym has all the essential equipment that Joe incorporates into a customized workout.
