The Bar Method Brooklyn - Cobble Hill is a boutique fitness studio offering barre classes for students of all levels. The signature method uses your own body weight, the ballet barre and a few props to create a transformative workout that results in long, lean sculpted muscles. Not only does it reshape your entire body, but it allows you to channel your inner strength and leave class feeling strong, confident and poised. Highly-trained instructors customize the exercises to ensure they are safe and effective for any age and every body, including modifications for pregnant women and students with injuries. Our staff and community are here to support you from the moment you walk through the door.

I have been going to Bar Method religiously for over 12 years. I’ve spent the last 4 years at the Cobble Hill location and love the studio so much. The combination of the wonderful and inspiring (sometimes pushy πŸ˜…) instructors who continue to encourage me to take the advanced options and the welcoming students keep me coming back. I have been fortunate to have this community even during the pandemic and it has kept me physically and mentally healthy.

Update 10/23/25: I have been doing this workout for awhile and come to this studio every day because I love it. Since Lindsay became the owner, there have been noticeable improvements throughout the space and experience. It feels great to have a hands-on owner who is present, responsive, and committed to the community.

I cannot recommend the Bar Method Brooklyn enough!!
The People:
-The Front Desk team goes beyond just checking you into class. They make sure to document any injuries or concerns prior to class, they chat with you about your day, they recommend books (my newest favorite came from a rec) - a truly stellar group!
-The instructors really care about everyone who comes in. They are constantly making sure you're in your safest form while teaching class, adjusting music, and hyping you up. I cannot even name my favorites because everyone is just so wonderful.
-There's no pretentiousness or judginess, everyone is there for a good workout in a positive environment (which you will get).

The Classes:
-Lots of formats to explore (Classic, Cardio, Strength, Combos etc.).
-Early morning, afternoon, and evening classes are available to fit any schedule.
-Some classes come with an optional "Restore" session at the end which is a long, guided stretch session - literally meditative.

The Space:
- Incredibly clean
-Stocked showers, changing room, and lockers!
-2 studios with barres of multiple heights for all heights

This studio is great! I've been doing group fitness classes for decades, and had used ClassPass and class packs to visit many of the other bar studios in the city. When it made sense for me to join one studio full-time, I decided on Bar Method Cobble Hill. The most important reason is the quality of the instruction - the teachers are uniformly professional and skilled, and they take the time to correct your form and make sure you actually do the moves and get a good workout. Other studios have great classes, but there is generally much less attention to teaching you how to do it effectively. There is also now a good variety of classes - from standard bar to versions focusing on cardio, weights, or yoga-mashup - so you can definitely break a sweat and get your heart pounding and build muscle. Finally, it's a friendly place. The staff and other students make it feel like a real community. There's a "Cheers" feeling. There's a wide variety of fitness levels and ages and an effort is made to make sure everyone feels comfortable and welcome.

Hands down the best barre studio I’ve ever been to. The owner really cares about the students experience, ambience, and the studio in general. The instructors are all top notch, especially if you’re pregnant, they try and make sure you’re ok and have all the proper modifications. The clothes they sell are also super cute! There’s always something happening and I love it. Parking is meh but you’ll eventually find some. Highly recommend, they always have deals for new clients.

Every year (or twice-ish a year) when there's a major discount on Bar Method memberships I like to take full advantage. This full-body work out helps me zone-in and focus sharply on taking care of my body and building up / maintaining strength physically and mentally.

I especially love taking classes with Lindsay G in Cobble Hill- she's clear, concise, specific with her direction, and has a great amount of energy that's focused and supportive and engaged, without being overly domineering/enthusiastically out of place. She feels "no-nonsense" but with a nice balance of a sense of calm and warmth. The flow of her classes feel seamless and allow me to reach a mental flow state as well. She has great power-pop playlists and she offers clear adjustments. She's also the first person who's very casually recognized me when I come in for classes (have been in and out of Bar Studios around the city for years). I feel so funny because, the tactic of remembering someone's (my lol) name works! It makes me feel special and valued and like I'm doing a "good job" when I come into her classes haha.
I'm going to truly miss going when my membership discount is up in February!

I really wanted to like this studio. It's close to home, the employees are nice, and the instructors do a great job of remembering everyone's name.

My workout is my time to zone out from the world and focus on myself. Sometimes it's the only time I get in the day to do this. I felt like every class I took, I was worried about not kicking the person next to me or having to constantly move out of the way. I don't like being that close to other people and I found it stressful and hard to focus on the workout because of this. I couldn't even stretch at the end without having someone's foot in my face.

I felt like some of the moves were challenging, but overall, I didn't find it to be very challenging. Maybe if you're just trying to get a light workout in, are injured, or don't care about toning/building muscle. I'm not a fan of HIIT or high intensity workouts where I absolutely destroy myself but I do want to challenge myself and this just wasn't that hard.

I personally would rather spend a bit more money to have my own space on a pilates machine and get a way better burn. I decided I could do online barre workouts as it doesn't take much equipment and it's way more enjoyable not having people breathing down your back/breathing down others back. Plus, it's free or very small amount of money each money.

The staff is wonderful, friendly and professional. The studio feels light, welcoming and clean. I live about a mile away so I come here sporadically, but always have a mostly positive experience. Honestly, everything about this studio is lovely. The only reason I'm taking off a star is because of how crowded the classes have gotten. This also could 100% just be a me thing. I completely understand the need to fill classes to pay for rent/instructors/equipment etc, but I always find myself having to squeeze into a corner to make space for someone else. The lack of personal space is a real deterrent for me unfortunately.

I've been going to Bar Method for over a year. I used to frequent the Soho location until they closed. The cobble hill location is fantastic. They have two large rooms with good ventilation. The changing room has two showers and all the amenities. I believe there is also a daycare for fitness moms! The teachers are incredibly attentive and adjust you before you hurt yourself. The front desk staff is always friendly and they go out of their way to learn your name. The workout itself is challenging - don't be afraid if you're legs shake the first time! That just means it's working.

This Bar Method location is fabulous! The instructors are super friendly and helpful, it's extremely clean, there is a variety of people and body types, and the shower/locker room is great. I recently started coming more regularly after spraining my ankle (as barre and pilates was actually recommended by my doctor to strengthen the ankle muscles), and I'm feeling much stronger after about a month of coming 3x/week. I've never been able to do a solid push-up in my life, and now I can! I look forward to the classes and appreciate the neighborhood vibe of this studio. Definitely give it a try!

The instructor was great. She chatted with me briefly before the class to tell me the differences between this and some other bar classes I was more familiar with so that I felt prepped and comfortable. She made individual corrections on form through out the class which I am a huge fan of. Overall, it felt personalized. It's hard to know how to begin to explain how impactful Bar Method has been on my life. I used to be someone who just barely tolerated occasionally working out. Now, I'm someone who goes to barre class 3-4 times a week, wakes up earlier than I have to so I can get to class, and can't stop talking about how much I love it to everyone who will listen. Bar Method does such a wonderful job of welcoming you into their community and making you feel truly valued as a customer. It warms my heart when I walk in and everyone knows my name - and I mean everyone, they have some sort of amazing magic trick where they can learn your name instantly! The classes are structured so that you'll work hard whether its your 1st or 100th class; the instructors are amazing at giving you modifications and challenges so you can work harder if you're ready to try. Plus, they're fantastic at giving you small corrections throughout class and explaining the positions (not too fast or too slow) to ensure you get your maximum workout. I've been obsessed since my first week in January 2017; I've been going regularly for about 10 months now, and I am constantly in awe of how these classes have toned my body and given me overall strength and energy. Bar Method is, quite simply, the best.

I really like the personalized approach to exercise. Bar has never been an easy workout for me, but I really like the challenge and the personalized corrections I get each class. Recently I had the lovely experience of being told by two different teachers on two different days that they had both noticed a marked improvement in my posture and form from when I began taking bar classes at the top of this year. I am a pretty active person (take spin classes and dance classes) but ever since I started coming to Bar Method, I've noticed a change in my body. I feel stronger, leaner and more toned. All of the teachers and staff are great, they know you by name and help make sure you are working out in proper alignment when in class. I can't get enough of barre class!

I love this place. I have been working out in this studio since it opened in 2015 and it has changed my body and my spirit! The studio is beautiful and clean with the best (and most patient) front desk staff in NYC. The instructors are wonderful and attentive and make sure you are doing each move correctly and challenging you along the way. The Bar Method Cobble Hill is the fitness community that finally made me quit ClassPass. This is the the only studio I need! I love the friendly, welcoming community here. The instructors and staff really take the time to get to know clients and are always welcoming. I also appreciate that the teachers pay attention to everyone's fitness level and strengths and weaknesses -- I like that they really do know me and can push me just enough in a class to go to the next level, or notice when I'm doing something particularly well that maybe I wasn't able to do before. I appreciate that they are helping me develop all the time! I also really appreciate the devotion to form and safety. I have a Pilates background and TONS of injuries in my past, so I really do appreciate the focus on the best form in every class. I loved that some of the curl positions changed recently at Bar Method to be easier on the hip flexors and that the overall method is even taking that into consideration!

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this studio. All the staff are all friendly, the space is beautiful, and there are lots of classes throughout the day. Coming regularly to class has unquestionably helped me become way faster and more mindful runner. I've been able to work out the areas of my body that are the first to be neglected, like my abs and arms and inner thighs. All this and I'm more flexible too. It's the best cross-training a runner could dream of (I also used to be lazy about stretching). And I say this as someone who generally detests group exercise classes. The vibe is never a judgmental one here. The Bar Method Brooklyn is a gem. I highly recommend.

The Bar Method studio on Pacific street just off Smith street in Bourem Hill/Cobble Hill in Brooklyn is wonderful. First of all, it is the prettiest/cleanest exercise studio I have ever seen - a combination of spa/zen tea house. The teachers who work there are wonderful, friendly, commited and incredibly helpful. I am not in good shape physically, but they manage to work with me, suggesting modifications or adjustments to the moves, while still teaching an excellent class. The workout is excellent and invigorating - including wonderful music including Prince! The studio is a very special place and I highly recommend the studio overall, the individual teachers and the workout!

Best experience to-date at a barre studio mainly driven by the positive vibes of the staff and other clientele.

I started taking barre classes this year while nursing my high hamstring injury. After years of long-distance running, I've found the isometric movements to be beneficial in my recup.

That said, I'm very much a barre n00b so I can't discern the workout subtleties between all the studios. For Bar Method, I selfishly appreciated the focus on calves during the bar section as well as the thigh sprints. I would love if the ball was incorporated more often in the routine - just to get at those inner thighs.

I found that the instructors were comfortable and (most importantly) very capable of doling out personalized adjustments throughout class.

In terms of facilities, the space is spacious and clean. I work in Manhattan but live in the BK so I appreciate a nice shower before I head off to work. Bar Method did not disappoint, although I would recommend leaving a couple minutes early from class if you need to hustle to get to work.
