So happy I found The Row! As someone who has only been doing Pilates for the past year, I was honestly nervous to start weight + HIIT workouts, but The Row has made the transition so easy and welcoming. There are 24(?) stations, each done at 2-minute intervals — and at your own pace. The coaches are encouraging, the music is always on point, and the vibes are high. Highly recommend for any skill level!

Luis is an incredible trainer! I have been attending his classes for a year now and feel more than prepared for my first Hyrox! He watches your form and corrects you, he pushes you to do better but also takes into account that some days your performance is better/weaker. I still see myself coming to classes even after my competition because the work out is so good!

Many people are very confused of what the owner is doing. I don't understand why the owner is not doing Hyrox classes anymore. Doing the same circuit training class 5 days a week will not get us prepared for Hyrox.

My favorite place to workout! I went to this gym during my summer break and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made! From feeling like the classes were set at a good pace, to always feeling encouraged from the coach - I noticed my stamina and energy increasing across the few weeks! What I really appreciated about the classes is that they felt challenging enough but also some days were just about showing up and surviving. I think that felt super important to me as someone who started Hyrox training this summer and now I want to keep at it because I felt so encouraged! The gym itself is in a good location and very easy to walk to. In addition all the equipment is kept in very good condition and the hygiene measures in this gym are great! Would recommend this gym highly!

Amazing gym!!! Luis was great! I let him know that was my first real work out in about 10 years and instead of being judgmental he responded with "take it easy today to get a feel for it and if you like it I'll push you next class", I loved the class, I primarily attended to appease my wife but I'm definitely going to go for myself from now on. The gym is on a smaller side but it's very organized and extremely clean making it very welcoming for a "first timer" like myself! Thanks again Luis!

It’s about time that I finally post this review. I can’t believe it has already been 5 months since I made the best decision of 2024 - changing gym for The Row. This gym has all the best equipments and they are all very well maintained. But most of all, the best coach I’ve got - Luis. Luis is super welcoming, always a positive attitude that makes you want to wake up in the morning for the 6 am class and motivates everyone to push themselves without getting hurt. I appreciate that he corrects us if we don’t have the right posture on the machine so we wouldn’t hurt ourselves. I will highly recommend to everyone to join The Row! Love The Row!🫶🏻

This truly is the best gym around. The circuit classes are dynamic, cater to all types of fitness levels, and Luis is the best coach out there. Prior to joining The Row, I had never tried a circuit class, and now I can't get enough. This has become a regular part of my weekly routine and I feel less energetic during the weeks in which I don't attend a class. The classes are affordable, approachable, and will leave you thanking yourself for investing in your body and health. To anyone in the area looking for circuit classes at an extremely affordable price with a coach who truly cares (and makes sure to gently point out when your form could be improved), this is the place for you. The Row Astoria is one of the best gyms I have ever been to. Girlfriend and I have been going here for over 2 years now and it has changed our view on working out. Luis is amazing and has a great system in place, whether it's Circuity City or Cardio Bootcamp you get a full body workout. In Circuit City, there are 24 two minute rounds where you use a variety of machines, weights, or just agility type exercises. Luis always helps your form and has always been very encouraging. There is no pressure at all. Each time the exercises change up and it keeps you excited for the next class. If you're looking to start getting conditioned and in shape, I'd highly recommend you go here. We were once beginners and started here too!

In the past I have found it hard to maintain a level of commitment in attending classes for long periods of time, or pushing myself to my limits at class itself. Visited this gym after I found it on ClassPass. It started with 2 classes and now it's my go to gym.
The cardio bootcamp really kicks your butt and gets you working your entire body I have chronic lower back issues and let the instructor know ahead of time. He was good about checking in on me when I got to exercises that involved my lower back. I definitely got work done during this class. The nice thing in group classes is that you can go at your pace and hopefully see progress for future classes.
The HITS NYC boxing class was a lot of fun and even though I was a beginner, the owner and instructor Luis Novas, helped me out when I didn't know how to do the punches like everyone else. In addition to time on the bags there was also 1:1 time with training paddles with Luis which gets with technique and self esteem for the newbies like me.
The circuit class is one of my favorites! It allows me to incorporate strength training and Luis keeps things interesting by letting each station to 2 minutes, rotating you through on average 18 stations throughout the rotation. He includes some staple exercises every class which is great for monitoring your own progress as you get stronger and increase your stamina.
(To my fellow ladies out there, strength training does NOT mean bulking up. It helps you it your lean muscle goals!!)
Overall, there's a great community feel to this gym. From the beginning you could tell that Luis has a good number of regulars and it's easy to see why since I'm now one of them! His energy keeps you going when your muscles are telling you to screw yourself (lol). I honestly haven't found another class that I enjoy taking a much as my circuit training and HITS NYC classes that I cycle through weekly. When I can't make it to a class it definitely throws off my week and no other ClassPass option can compare or make up for it (and I've tried a lot of different classes). So make sure to try this out! The coach Luis is very motivating, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. He always radiates positive energy and makes working out fun and the time flies by. I never enjoyed going to fitness classes until I found The Row! The smaller classes allow for individualized attention, with the instructors helping to make sure every move is done right. The classes also have different variations each time I go, so it never feels repetitive and I get to work different parts the body. tldr: Don't sleep on The Row Astoria- it is hands down the best gym I've ever been to.
Before I my first class at The Row, I was skeptical that this place would live up to the hype I'd read in reviews. Not to mention, I was nervous as hell, having been sidelined by an injury 6 months prior. Could I keep up? Would I leave full of shame, like almost every other gym experience I've ever had?
My reservations evaporated within 2 minutes of meeting Luis. His kindness and positivity simply radiates from him. He designs the classes so you can go at your own pace, build improvements incrementally, modify if/when you need to, and ultimately hit your goals. Luis creates a challenging workout, don't get me wrong. You WILL feel it. He also creates an environment of safety where you can focus on learning, growing, and ultimately bringing your best to each class.
I just converted to a membership after about a month and I can't wait to spend 2023 and beyond at The Row Astoria. So if you're on the fence, come check it out! It's definitely worth it.

I have been going to the row for almost a year now. When I first started I hadn’t worked out in years. I was so nervous and scared to go workout in front of other people. Luis and everyone that goes to the gym we’re so welcoming and non judgmental. I really enjoyed the fast paced class and the option to go at my own pace. Over time I was able to build my strength and get better at the never ending burpees lol. I’ve lost 65 pounds and I have abs now! Thanks Luis and The Row for completely changing my body composition, my relationship with fitness and how I feel about burpees.

I have found a place where I can be at peace and feel healthy. I suffer from depression and anxiety, and The Row has lift me up from my lowest. I started in Novemeber and so far I don't regret the decision on enrolling to the class. Luis, instructor is an amazing person. He makes sure you are not left behind and will guide you throughout the workouts. You won't feel leftout, everyone in class are just amazing and supportive to each other. I would say The Row is not just my gym but also therapeutically; where I let my anger, sadness, anxiety out. Ohhh the boxing class is a must! I started coming to The Row Astoria this summer with their outdoor kickboxing classes and migrated to the regular circuit-type classes. Luis is Fantastic. The Row is an Astoria gem. It is owned by a great trainer named Luis, who truly cares about helping you achieve your goals. The programming is solid, and he changes it up frequently so your body never gets used to anything. In each class, there’s a good mix of cardio & strength exercises. I love that it isn’t a chain gym, and it has a neighborhood charm to it. Despite being a neighborhood spot, the equipment is all top of the line (concept rowers, assault bike, etc). I’ve been going there for 5 months, and I can’t say enough nice things about it! It’s affordable, excellent work out, good people, local, etc. I highly recommend it!

I've been to Row House and OTF so I have some experience with rowing. I joined The Row Astoria over the summer when the pandemic hit and gyms/studios were shut down in NYC so we could only workout outside at a park. I really loved the format of the class, it's a circuit so it's rowing + bootcamp style, similar to some of the Row House formats. I became a member and now go to their studio. I love the ambience, it's clean, COVID safe. Luis is a great coach and keeps you motivated throughout the session and is observant on your form and will offer tips to improve form and posture. Glad I became a member and it's a great workout!

The Row Astoria is a secret Gem! My first class there was just a few months ago and I was hooked from day one! Louis shows you proper form from the rowing to the HIIT exercises we do in between. I am beyond grateful for finding the Row and Luis. After having a total of 9 surgeries within a 3 year period and the last one in May 2019. My body went through an enormous amount of trama and as a result I gained a lot of weigh and suffered from constant exhaustion. My doctors cautioned doing high impact excerise and to just stick with walking and pilates. Although helpful, the weigh remained. I decided 4 months ago to take a class at the Row. I knew the minute I was introduced to Luis and took my first class that I had finally found an environment that would challenge me and help me reach my fitness potential. Since that day I can say that I haven't missed a week without a minimum of three class and I am proud to say that I just completed a week of 6 classes. I have noticed a significant change in my weight, structure of my body and overall stamina. Luis is compassionate and truly motivates the entire class. If you are looking for a class that will target all areas of your body and build a strong core, the Row hands down is your place. Thank you Luis and keep doing the voodoo that you do! Awesome addition to the studio options in Astoria! The workouts are challenging and ever changing. The class is really engaging, rowing rounds are broken up with HIIT and strength training exercises, ensuring every major muscle group is getting worked during the 50 minutes of class and you never get bored from one continuous activity. Luis does an amazing job at checking each person’s form while rowing and providing feedback as well as offering little goals during each round, like privately suggesting a goal split time for each person to hit. Overall a great experience!! If you’ve never tried rowing this is a great place to learn and get the right instructions.

Luis has great hair, phenomenal class playlists, and dad jokes for days to motivate you as you try to reach your goals.
Okay, that's all true, but seriously: the man knows what he's doing. Everything we do in class is scaleable and can be individualized, so whether you haven't worked out in years or you're basically an Olympian, you'll feel it! Go early in the morning and wake yourself up with a few rounds of rowing and conditioning, or go in the evening and row out the stresses of the day.
It's been years since I've been able to find a workout and a studio that has made me want to be consistent with my training--this is definitely it!

I loved this class so much. I felt muscles in my body that I've never felt before. The small class is great for those that need extra help and guidance I know I surely needed it. My wrists’ve been hurting for quite a while and i was looking for an alternative great work out that I could do without hurting myself more. I was so happy that Luis introduced me to this work out. I can do it without causing more pain to my wrists but it hits every parts of muscles. He mixes rowing with conditionings and awesome music. The class is fun and small. The concept of HIIT + strength training that Luis is implementing in the row is amazing.
