I’ve been a YMCA member for many years and have put a lot of time and money into supporting this organization. Unfortunately, my recent experience at the front desk (downtown) was disappointing. The staff member was incredibly rude and condescending, repeatedly saying, “This is not a daycare, the daycare is down the hall,” in a tone that was completely unnecessary. I understand and respect that there are rules in place, but there’s absolutely no reason to speak to members in such a disrespectful way. A little kindness and professionalism would go a long way.

Best YMCA I've been to, recently renovated, best gym area with everything you need. Clean facility, lots of space.
Wish every Y looked and operated the same. The Y can be a hit or miss depending on location. My local Y is nothing compared to this one. If you live in WT, highly recommend.

Love this place, very clean, beautiful layout, spacious interior. Parking is great. Equipment is well maintained, and varied for all your workout needs.
The people that work there are friendly, polite, and make the place feel welcoming.

The Downtown Watertown YMCA is the best gym I've ever been a member.
My husband and I have been attending this YMCA for about a year, 4 or 5 times a week, mostly in the mornings. It's a super-clean building, and the facilities are first class. The pool area is awesome, same the sauna area. Because we preferred to go at our own pace using the treadmill, bicycles, other machines and the common areas to exercise, we love the gym. There are many exercise machines, dumbbells and weights! But we tried yoga classes too, and the instructors are very professional.
All the people on the front desk are very friendly, and they always welcomed with a smile. The gym instructors, too.
Sadly, my husband and I will move from Watertown soon, so we have to cancel our membership. We'll always remember our happy place in Watertown, Downtown YMCA!! THANK YOU to ALL the people working there!!

I really wanted to give this a 5-star review because I genuinely enjoy the atmosphere and loved the group workout class I tried. However, I had a frustrating experience at the front desk that left a bad impression.
I've had some issues in the past with checking in because my home YMCA is in Syracuse, and the barcode sometimes doesn’t scan properly. Normally, the staff are helpful and take a moment to look up my account manually, and I truly don’t mind a short wait. But this time, the person at the front desk was dismissive and rude. He repeatedly told me my account was "inactive" and "has been inactive for 5 months," without making much of an effort to actually help.
I explained that I’ve had this issue before, and that my membership includes access to all YMCAs through the nationwide program. I even mentioned I had been to this same location just two weeks earlier. While on the phone with my mother—who confirmed our membership hadn’t been canceled—I kept trying to clarify that I was visiting from another YMCA branch. Eventually, he did find my account and said, “You need to tell us you're nationwide.” That’s essentially what I had been trying to explain all along.
In short, the experience felt like he was more interested in turning me away than helping solve the issue. I hope this was just a one-off interaction, because everything else about the facility was great.

You need to visit this Y!! I have been a part of the Y community for 18 years, from being a part of the YMCA Blue Sharks swim team, to working out in the various Watertown locations multiple times a week, including the old Watertown Square location.
Since moving to this new Downtown building, this is the only location I will go to now. New and good quality equipment, multiple weight racks and machines, lots of space to spread out and do your own thing, etc, but the biggest feature for me is the staff. They have all been so genuine and kind, and go above and beyond to help everyone, from helping me with pickleball equipment for me and my friends, working with me on day passes and memberships, and one time even offering to print something out for me when I was in a bind and really stressed that I couldn’t get to a different printer sooner.
Come for the gym, stay for the people- I can’t recommend it enough.

Nice updated facility but honestly I miss the warm, friendly feel of the smaller downtown location. This is an intimidating atmosphere and lacks comfort. Also, so much space but no additional equipment? Hard to find parking/equipment during peak time. Planet Fitness actually has more of what I'm looking for with a much less intimidating atmosphere. Only benefit of this new location is its pool area.

I normally don’t try to complain about my experiences with places but I just had a party there for my son and daughter. For the price I paid you would think they would be pleasant and nice. Family oriented but not the friendliness you would expect. Dirty looks and attitudes from the ladies at the desk and the life guards. Granted the room was big but it wasn’t cleaned. The floors you could tell haven’t seen a good cleaning in a while, the counters we had to wipe down. Now we had the party 2pm-4pm and we wanted to do the party first due to the kids were probably not going to want to get out. They had issues with that. Then as we were done and heading to the pool, some were going to the pool others were bringing presents and everything to the car. We were trying to get head start on picking up our mess. The one young lady was like see this is the issue. I asked what? She said no presents in the pool room. I stated they weren’t some people are going to the pool the ones bringing stuff is going to the car. we received dirty looks from the staff. The lockers rooms same thing, floors were disgusting , globs of hair in the changing rooms and on the floor. I really thought seeing it’s advertised family here family there that it would let be like that. But clearly it’s not. For the amount of money they charged you would at least think they’d be friendly and it would be cleaned but I guess not. Been waiting on a call back but been waiting hours for that. Not to mention , they took the pizza we had left over and were throwing away they were in the garbage they took it out and stated they give it to someone . I guess I won’t be having another party here nor recommend it

I have been a member for over a year here. I pay my membership fee and all my payments are up to date, although I only use the facility to play tennis (which always is an additional charge).
I was contacted today over a “SUB FEE” (5 dollars) for a tennis league that I have subbed for less than a hand full of times. I was unaware of this said “fee”. Instead of reaching out and just asking me to pay the fee, the management immediately accused me of knowing about it and told me “not to lie about how many times I subbed or he will review the camera footage”.
This is absurd behavior and approach for any establishment, (unless you’re the IRS). I have paid any previous fees for this league and for the establishment all together and never had a single problem prior to this. It was uncalled for and undeserving as someone who has always paid and participated.
Overall, The facility is great. I would have loved if this situation was handled differently, had I known there was a fee of course I would have paid. This is just a downfall on the managements part and I would be careful for anyone considering this place in the future.

The Y is great place for families, friends, old folks. After reading some of the negative reviews, I feel a need to speak up for my friends who work hard everyday to give the members a positive experience. From the program director on down to the lady who cleans all day, the staff I’ve met and talked to respond to politeness and patience. If you feel more entitled due to economic or social circumstances, back up , take look and put yourself in these peoples’ places.
The facilities are top notch. The staff are always helpful if you are patient. There were design decisions made beyond the level of anyone working there day to day that make for some inconveniences like the locker rooms but that’s a small problem. Complaining about design decisions is like complaining about where the sun comes up in the morning. Love this place.

Amazing sports facility! Installation is clean and the equipment is well maintained. There are many programs offered to choose from. Overall, staff is always courteous, willing to help, and friendly. However, my experience with the Aquatics program director has not been the greatest. Although she runs a good program when asked questions that arise without being scheduled, it seems as she does not have the time to answer them in the moment. My experience is that personal attention is lacking, and in times where you seek help, you are made to feel as a bother and not a paying customer.

The staff really isn’t very friendly. There are not enough treadmills, especially if you go at peak times. The atmosphere is kind of- odd. Not very welcoming and not very helpful. The small amount of equipment and limited pool hours- it’s just not really worth the membership.

Don't recommend unless you're rich enough. if you're not, be prepared to be treated like trash.
Was wrongly autobilled on my debit card mutltiple times(twice my membership fee), went in and explained the situation. I blocked the y from auto charging my card. I paid in person afterwards .
Come to find out my membership is canceled with a 95 debt owed (I only owed 34). I call to see whats up and was degraded and humiliated by the manager Ron for having a single parent scholarship. He continued to tell me that he couldn't pay the money ( I was wrongly charged ) out of the y and I already had almost the maximum scholarship, didn't I think that was enough?.
And that my scholarship was already cancelled before twice.
Nothing but deflecting from the administrations mistakes... bringing up length of my scholarship was irrelevant to the situation at hand !!!! I was respectful to him as i simply was trying to figure out why I was getting fined because the y was autobilling for an amount that was nearly three times what my actual membwrship dues were.
And it's Totally unacceptable to try to make someone feel inferior because of their financial difficulties. 🙄 (especially a Christian club). I'm embarrassed and feel like Trash, and now I owe money for something that was not taken care of by administration, despite me bringing it up in person with multiple staff members.
Totally un professional , not to mention just unkind . My family and I have been a member there for years but sadly this behavior is completely unacceptable. Makes me sad to think people think it's ok to disrespect others because of their financial situation, only to deflect from their own errors.
Very disappointed 😞 I always spoke so greatly of this gym. But I guess if u bring up any complaint(and get financial assistance) you're spit on it basically.

Not a bad place. Pretty clean and the reason it's "dirty" is because the people that come here are filthy and have no respect for things that don't belong to them. I go in the men's locker and see how dirty these men and kids are and don't clean up after themselves. You're grown ups! Clean the mess you make and teach your kids to do the same!
As for the lady complaining about the pool instructor, how about you teach your kids to follow instructions instead of making excuses for their behavior.

Really disappointed in the new YMCA. My husband and I came here 2 weeks after it opened and theres no lockers to use (there are only 8 day use lockers and the rest are padlocked), the weightroom is TINY and only has a couple sets of DB racks and 1 cable machine, and you have to pay to use towels?? I've been a YMCA member my whole life (including other states) and I've never had to pay for towels. Needless to say, my first workout here was incredibly rushed and frustraing. Theres no space to do any free weight activity and its cluttered up with a bunch of machines that people sit on to text. The ONLY redeeming quality of the new YMCA is the pool. Pool area is clean, well organized and the locker rooms are nice...if only there was a locker to use, I'd like it more! Think I'll stick with the fairgrounds location.

Not impressed at all. The place/floors were filthy likes days of not sweeping especially the stairs. It felt dirty in the place. They're staff as well as their pool director has a very bad attitude. Funny thing is, she's the one that made the mistake. But when their leadership has a bad attitude, I guess it's expected their staff would have the same attitude.

Brenna is the worst instructor for children. She told my children’s class that if they didn’t keep swimming, they would be punished with “additional swimming”! I want my child to enjoy swimming, not hate it. She also only taught the older ones from outside the pool. It was basically an endurance class rather than perfecting their stroke! Don’t waste your time. She is the worst ever!!!!

I used to LOVE IT until they got rid of the water aerobics instructor because of an incident that happened and one person that had only been there one time complained. Instead of asking the people that go there for EVERY CLASS what happened and what HAS been going on first. To top it off they told her to lie about not coming back because they knew we would be mad because they had just taken away one of our days for swim lessons. I heard her 1st hand tell Barb to tell us she was just taking 3 months off so we wouldnt get mad. Now thats crazy!!!
