These guys kicked my butt in 30 minutes when I was in New York visiting some friends, looking for a local gym to hit. Nice crowd, great workout, and good motivation from the leader (forgot the gentleman’s name, sorry!)
May go back again while I’m here for the week!

This was my gym for 10 years, starting with Bowery CrossFit, then WillyB. Great coaches, great people, great equipment, great vibes. Thank you Grig and all the coaches and members for a fantastic few years. This is a great place to start, continue, or deepen, your fitness journey. You’ll be in great hands here!

I attended just one class cause I was in NYC for a brief holiday.
The box is not too big but seems to have everything one needs, plus the coach is very nice and welcoming, and the WOD during the class I attended was very challenging and funny.
I absolutely recommend to give it a try; if I lived in New York I would definitely go there.

This is a small, lower-key Crossfit gym. My primary complaint is that after I moved away from NYC, they continued to charge me membership dues, despite me cancelling my membership online and discussing with them over the phone. As a PhD student, the monthly membership cost was material. It's a shame - I enjoyed going to the gym. But I consider charging people for services that they decline and cannot use to be an unethical business practice, hence my 1-star rating. Try making money by selling people a valuable service that they want to pay for, not through backdoor contract terms and charges.

Let’s start this out by saying I don’t work out. Not since high school and college anyway. I run sometimes and I’m a kayaker. But I was never motivated to work out and join a program. Willy B CrossFit changed all of that. I did the 6 week challenge and then joined. Why? I lost a lot of weight and body fat, but I stayed for the amazing instructors and for the community. I’ve met some really good people who keep me motivated to continue my fitness goals. It’s the best balance for me the intense work out I need to actually work hard and the caring community.

I felt welcome at Willy B the moment I walked in. Sometimes Crossfit gyms can feel cultish and insular - not Willy B. I immediately felt welcome and the vibe of the gym was clearly conducive to all experience levels. The coaches have been knowledgeable and funny. And while the facilities are a bit old the overall design and gym cleanliness is great. Highly recommend for anyone in the Williamsburg area!

I was gaining a bit of chub and noticed this place popped up in Chinatown. I ended up doing their 6 week challenge and won w/the help of the trainers and a nutrition plan made for me. Everyone is friendly and will cheer you on. Great place for anyone who's looking to get pushed into a healthier stronger body.

I'm so happy to have found this box and the community! WillyB has helped me make fitness a part of my life. They have a great team of coaches who are always encouraging and push you beyond what you think you are capable of doing. I never thought I would do/enjoy crossfit, but the coaches, community, and my results proved me wrong. I have gotten so much stronger since joining!

Honestly, cannot recommend this place enough. I participated in the 6 week challenge, and became a member after that. the foundations and HIIT classes were a great way to ramp up. All the trainers are really nice, well-versed, great at explaining the moves, and vigilant about coming around during the classes to motivate you and make sure your form is correct. I personally am not that athletic, I don't have an athletic background but everyone at the gym was super welcoming and accommodating, great way to improve your personal fitness and i never feel more energized than when at WillyB

It's an awesome experience! I highly recommend the 6 week challenge, first of all it's a really good deal, almost like a super intense trial. Second it motivates you immensely because of the stakes, which is such a big part of getting into shape, the motivation. Third, it's an awesome community and a safe space where people encourage each other. Fourth, the trainers are really friendly and help out individually if needed, but also give you the freedom to decide what's best for your body. I exceeded my own expectations, and I'm so grateful for the uber-fulfilling experience!

I highly recommend WillyB Crossfit! If you are looking to challenge yourself, to be/stay healthy and to be part of a community that motivates each other to do well, this is the right gym for you!
I joined WillyB Crossfit and did the 6-week challenge. My goal was to lose 6% body fat, which seemed impossible at the time of the orientation. But I made it, thanks to all the awesome people I've met in this gym!
I had a very helpful and encouraging fitness/nutrition coach, Chris. If you do the challenge, they will assign you a coach that will guide you through the whole journey.
Along with that, the fitness coaches I've met through the Foundations, Crossfit and HIIT classes who I'm so grateful for. They make sure you are doing the work out safely and with the right form, but also that you are pushing and challenging yourself.
The athletes/students who work out in the gym are also very friendly, and there is a sense of community that you just want to keep coming back and get stronger with everybody.
I love this gym and I would give more than 5 stars if I could!

I did the CrossFit 6 week challenge, and succeeded. You should, too!
I joined the 6 week challenge a week after finishing the NYC Marathon. While my endurance cardio is decent, I was looking to improve my body fat percentage.
First off, HIIT workouts were very different from what I was accustomed to. They're always a challenge, but Coach Jeff is careful to scale activities down or up to your Fitness level, regardless of where you are.
Second, once I made it to CrossFit, I was impressed by how quickly I could make strength gains. Again, by building a varied workout, I could reach muscle exhaustion while simultaneously hitting a good heart rate.
Third, what had been missing from my previous training was precise nutritional management. Chris coached me through my plateau, with encyclopedic understanding of metabolism - and I have master's degrees in genetics and molecular biology.
In the end, precise control of muscle loading, cardio, and nutrition allowed me to achieve my goal. And I made a permanent change in my lifestyle, now that I know how to do it.
If you just want to go to a gym, yeah go to any gym. But if you are looking to make a data-driven, measurable change in your fitness and appearance, you can get serious here. And you'll probably make some friends doing it!

After leaving this review I got nasty texts from the owner:::::::They didn’t give me the full details of the 6 Week Challenge and once they had my 600 dollars (advertised as a FREE Bootcamp) there was no getting it back. I went 4 times a week and my diet was clean as sunshine but I didn’t lose the required weight (the part they didn’t mention was required for reimbursement). Other people I spoke to also told me they weren’t given all the details when they signed up. WillyB’s is a scam and I would tell anyone else to avoid it at all cost
I will say this though—the instructors are awesome and I enjoyed the challenge immensely. Too bad they ruined it by being greedy and sneaky.
In their response below they claim they offered to roll my 600 over into a gym membership. The reason I declined was that it would still cost me 150-200 a month.

OH YEAH! I was new to CrossFit so I took the 6 week Challenge to see if I liked it... Well, I lost 25 lbs in 6 weeks and beat the challenge, met great people, and increased my goals on every level!! The Coaches are great, the music is good, the staff is beyond cool and the location is awesome, a block from the train. Can't wait to get back in the box. The workouts are actually fun and not as scary when you just start doing them. Surprised myself and there is plenty of motivation to do Rx, even if you modify. Thanks WillyB

I came in to WillyB Crossfit to take their 6 week challenge and didn't really know what to expect. It turned out to an awesome experience. I lost 6 percent of my body fat in just 3 weeks
I took all my HIIT classes with Chris, he makes the classes fun and at the same time pushes you to do your best. Jeff was the person I took most of my crossfit classes and I am amazed of knowledgable he is in just about everything. He teaches you proper techniques so you won't get hurt and shows steps on how you can gradually work towards doing all exercises to the fullest.
The workout are tough but so much fun. I learned to do things I never would have attempted to do on my own going to the gym. The atmosphere is great and even the other member are friendly and supportive during class. They also have a few other locations in Brooklyn.

This gym is amazing! Could not be more happy with my experience at Willy B Crossfit. I joined the 6 week challenge and I was super nervous about starting. After the first class I could not wait to come back. Most of my classes were with Jeff and Mark, who were both great motivators and helpers. Whether the classes were 12 people or 2 it always felt like I got the support I needed. Super grateful for the smiles and words of encouragement (especially because I am introverted). I typically came to class after work and even though it was late at night I didn’t regret coming into the gym. It was hard work!! But fun and I got to do things I never thought I could do in my fitness journey so soon. Super pumped to continue my journey on my own and use everything I learned here. Thank you so much!!

I came in not knowing at all what to expect! I met Chris whom with the most welcoming style proposed a 6 week challenge....6 weeks later I surpassed the goal by 5lbs!!! This gym offered a great family like environment yet competitive vibe. The classes are great, the instructors motivated and patient with all the members. There are so many classes and at multiple locations so it was great. The amenities are a plus!! I really can’t say anything bad about WillyB and I tried all the boxes multiple times so it’s the same whichever box you go to.

This company does not care about people and do not sign up for their 6 week challenge, I had a very troubling situation happen with me and when I asked them to be understanding, they say there is nothing you can do. I love how positive everyone is! Not only the coaches but the athletes in other classes. I completed the six week challenge. It took A LOT of work, but I couldn't have done it without the personal attention they were willing and able to give. Everyone seems to really want to see each other do their personal best. So much focus is put into learning form first and foremost which was really important to me. I'm being pushed but never past my limits. I never thought I'd be going to the gym 4-5 times a week and being excited about it. I'm so goal oriented, doing it on my own was NOT working. I'm lifting way heavier than I ever thought I could and feeling better physically and mentally than I have in years.

I don’t often write reviews. I do, however, when some place is really great or really awful. Bowery WillyB’s CrossFit on Grand in Manhattan is neither but it is concerning. I am not a member and I haven’t attended. They contacted me and offered a FREE (they wrote it in all caps to emphasize its free nature) six week program. But it isn’t free, it’s $600 and it comes with alarming requirements. After you arrive they come clean and explain that it is only free if you lose 25lbs and 7% body fat in 6 weeks. It’s fine to have requirements for commitment. However, those requirements are almost impossible and medically not recommended. They are unsafe. Whether you stress your body with work, starvation, lack of sleep, or over excursion-it all registers the same to the body. It’s all received as stress and an unhealthy lifestyle. They don’t ask your goals, height or weight. Over 1% loss in body fat per week is outside of the medically, healthy recommended amount. If by miracle you achieve it, it won’t be healthy for you. I am 5’7” and weigh 145. I do want to firm and lose some but 120, I do not want to be. It is actually 1 lbs below the recommended lowest range for a healthy weight for someone at that height. So I am writing this as a warning. Their program, besides being misleading, isn’t a healthy goal. Also, my goal was to add muscle which weighs more than fat so the program measurements are fixed against you, like a game at a traveling carnival. The very least you should expect from a gym is that it’s clean, safe, and a healthy environment. This had none of those qualities. It was under construction, but if you are going to be open to members, be clean. I will say, if you are obese and super motivated, you might be able to achieve this but I mean clinically obese not just overweight. If you are looking for a life style change and desire to firm, look elsewhere. So if you are obese and are willing to gamble $600, this might work for you but I would definitely consult your physician before signing anything and I’d definitely read the fine print of whatever they make you sign because this gym is out for the money, not you. It is a business but money comes first and we’ll above it’s member’s health. Just read the owners responses to some of the complaints. Whether he is right or wrong, he is compassionless. But definitely don’t waste your time and effort going down there thinking it’s a free program and you’re part of a test group for the marketing of the program. It’s just a sales gimmick. It is not free. And more importantly, it isn’t about your health, it’s about your wallet and agreement to sign a contract of regular deductions from your bank account. Beware.
Thanks for your quick response. I’m entitled to review based on my experience. Having to attend 3X per week and work hard or be cut is skin on the game. I was told that many busy New Yorkers who respond to your claim it is free are disappointed to have been misled by the full information after arriving. That too was my experience. I discussed this with my doctor and was told no, it isn’t healthy and anyone can google the recommended fat percent loss per week as well as healthy weight range for a 5’7” female. I haven’t disrespected anyone in your gym. Your response speaks to your character, compassion is afforded at the will of the giver not on conditions but on the integrity of the character of the giver. All of that aside, dear Willy, if this isn’t a sales gimmick why not explain it up front versus after someone arrives. Why state what they have to lose versus wake them their goals. If you think the goals are not “skin” worthy for your game, deny them access. Take a hard look inside, one day, as today is not that day, and really check yourself. Are you truly caring about the client to be or the money to gain. Cheers Willy. I wish you all the best.

We were visiting from Tennessee and decided to visit this box. Super nice staff and coaches. Very nice box too. They have all the standard equipment you'd expect. They also have an area to shower when you finish your workout. The manager on duty was from Tennessee too! I might be biased, but he was very accommodating. I asked for some good spots that locals like to eat, and he came up with an awesome list of places. We'll be back to this gym on our next visit.

This gym has been very lucky that they don't have an abundance of neon clad douchebags that are attracted to New York CrossFit gyms. The trainers here are wonderful and the facilities are great in the limited space. This is New York and no gym can be as expansive as Ohio or a pole barn somewhere in the burbs. They have a great onboarding program and bootcamp style classes if you enjoy intense focused attention. There is a weight lifting club as well if you would like to focus on Olympic lifting and power lifting.

Being shy and never attending a gym before can be overwhelming. I wanted to change my lifestyle (actually be in a shape) and get healthier, Bowery CrossFit helps with that!! There are dedicated staff that help with all levels from beginners like myself to people continuing with their athletic and strength training ways. The staff make sure that you are performing the movements correctly to get the most out of each workout and stay safe. Every class is different, you will 100% be sore and sweaty by the end of it but you are surrounded by awesome people. If you want to take the plunge and break from your comfort zone, this is the place to be!!
