I love YMCA! They added more group exercise classes - my favorites are Rumble, Strong Nation & Boot camp! , and several strength small group training classes - Yay! Total Boost & Women on Weight - recently and they are great! There are many options all day long. The swimming pool is much cleaner than before. Staffs are super friendly and efficient. I am so glad I live near Ithaca Y :)

This YMCA is such a gem! I am very new to strength training and got so much help from Tara with setting up the machines! All the staff were lovely and the gym was clean. It also wasn’t too crowded which was amazing. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

** Edit ** Thank you so much to the Ithaca YMCA for taking action on the review I left 3 weeks ago. I really appreciate it!! The locker room / shower areas look amazing and clean now.

I’m grateful for the Y & affordable membership. My only complaint is an important one: something needs to be done about the mold near the showers in women’s locker room. Mainly on the ceiling.

I have been a member of this YMCA for just over a year now and I highly recommend! I’ve been to other YMCAs but I like the wide selection of evening fitness classes! I also mentor and have taken my mentee here for open swim and the childcare area. I’d like to attend more of the family weekend events and I appreciate how many are offered!
My one piece of feedback would be that I wish they would post on their social media platforms in advance if a different instructor is covering a particular class, as many of the replacement instructors classes are not challenging enough for my preference. I often find out when I arrive for the class and I’d rather do a workout that is challenging for me.

I’ve had great classes here. They watch my kids in the play area and my kids love it. I wish they opened at 5:30 instead of six, so I could get an early swim in, but otherwise they’re excellent!

I have been a member for quite a while because I love the mission of the YMCA. More and more I feel like we need these kinds of physical gathering places in our communities. It has been so crowded lately and I just love the energy of kids, families, sports, wellness, childcare, classes, swim lessons -- it's simply amazing how much they offer this community. I just took an exercise class recently and the teacher, Mark, was fantastic. My thanks to the YMCA!

A great affordable way to keep your kids in recreational sports. The staff is nice and the facilities are okay. I’ve been a member at other Y’s with better facilities, but that’s not what’s important. YMCAs are community institutions that help families regardless of their income to access opportunities for social and physical development. Always support your local Y!

I just got my membership about a month ago and I could not love the YMCA more. I am a Marine Corps veteran and they gave me a very generous 10% discount which they offer for all veterans. They have just about every piece of workout equipment that I could ask for, a very friendly environment, and the staff are very kind and helpful. There are a ton of amazing perks and amenities, the pool is wonderful, and they offer two free hours of child care while you work out per day... what more could you ask for. Awesome!! 👌

I have been a member of this Y since I moved to the area in 2017 and I love it! Over the years it has changed with the times and offers new programs that meet the needs of it's diverse membership. I continue to be a regular in the pool and yoga, but also enjoy trying new classes and the updated equipment. There really is something for every-body in this welcoming community!

I always get a nice Hello and Goodbye, the lockeroom is kept clean and so is the pool area, although the pool is a bit too cold some days. The dance studio is also kept clean. The instructors are nice, fun and knowledgable. My only wish is for a few more Aqua Zumba classes in the morning.

I’ve been a member of the YMCA for about 8 years now, and I truly consider it my home away from home. The YMCA's mission and purpose are dear to my hear, and it’s a place where I feel like I truly belong. Over the years, I've met amazing people and built close friendships that I deeply cherish. The group fitness classes are definitely my jam! They keep me motivated, healthy, and connected. Whether you're looking to get fit, find community, or just enjoy a welcoming environment, the YMCA is the place to go. I’m grateful to be a part of such a supportive and inclusive community!

Edit: MUSIC HAS ARRIVED! It’s amazing what a difference even a bit of radio makes in the weight room. Absolutely transformed and vastly improved the experience. YMCA now feels like a gym vs a library or waiting room. Thank you for listening to feedback, it’s a vastly better space when not silent.

Edit: three month update - still no music, so all you hear is grunting and heavy breathing. The gym is wired with speakers and has been for years, so the problem is just being ignored. Probably going to switch gyms, this is insanely weird. This gym is quieter than the public library and it’s the strangest experience I’ve had in fitness.

Edit: two week update, no change to the music situation despite owner’s response. The new, much smaller space has gotten very crowded while the same eerie silence remains. It’s crazy that something like background music can make such a difference, but other places seem so much more inviting (likely because there’s just more to listen to than grunting noises)

The YMCA has been a friendly location with nice facilities for fitness. The new space is unfortunately much smaller and therefore much more crowded, but it is VERY nice with quality equipment. Honestly, the greatest improvement they can make is to break up the strangely silent environment in the new weight space. I've never been to such an eerily quiet gym, and while the YMCA does appear to have speakers in the space, I haven't seen them used in years. Sure, you can wear headphones. But you try doing a HIIT workout without those things falling out! YMCA management - I beg you - please please please add some radio to the weight spaces. This alone has been a factor preventing friends of mine from joining - it's bizarrely quiet.

This place is disgusting. I used to go ten years ago and the floors probably haven’t been cleaned since. The playspace is vile. It smells like urine, was covered with random clothes on the structure and garbage all along the perimeter. There wasn’t even a staff member there to facilitate the playspace despite a sign saying the name of a teacher on duty. The small pool where I intended to take my child wasn’t even open til 3 and I was there at noon. I had a week trial pass so this didn’t cost me anything, but had I payed for anything I would have requested a refund. I will not be returning here nor will I ever enroll in any memberships of any sort

We had our son's first friends birthday party at YMCA. Damien was very helpful through the process. When we arrived, tables were set up and the room was decorated. We did the Stay and Play and the kids had a blast! I thought 2 hours was too short of a window for the party but we ended up packing up early because all the kids were tired from playing. Would highly recommend hosting a kids birthday party at YMCA!

Very poor customer service. I called on Sunday to confirm that the morning pickleball was open for the following day. I was visiting from out of town and wanted to confirm it was happening. I was told that it would be open - the front desk staff even checked with a colleague to confirm. The next morning I traveled an hour to get to the YMCA - the minute I get in I see a sign that says pickleball is cancelled because there is a kids camp in the gym. Sure enough adult pickleball was closed. They need to give their front desk staff better information. Very disappointed.

We had a family emergency, tried to call several times. Membership Director Emily never called us back. Finally got her on the phone. Kept telling us we had to come in person to cancel. We were unable to go. Go our email and still charged our family $100. We called before the new month started. Said we had to cancel 5 days before. Made it difficult and heartless. Beware; recommend different facility.

They were very clear on the phone I had to come in person. They are inaccurate in their response. I had to pressure them because I was already moving and had left the area and was unable to return.

Disappointed in Ithaca YMCA. Was hoping to have some good group exercises but there are few to meet my needs as a very
active older adult with some typical senior health issues. Disappointed there are no gentle yoga stretch classes, nor any chair yoga classes. Stretching exercises are so critical to us as we age. I do like the 9:00 classes with Fae, strength building and aerobic (Y) dance. Have tried other classes that are ok, but do not meet my needs. Have not had opportunity to try the T'ai Chi class or Pilates class. There are many active older adults during morning hours who may benefit from more age related classes, as I have found in other YMCA's. The wellness equipment I have found to be very good, so I do use treadmill with the aerobic plus program. Just offering constructive feedback. I will continue to use the Y, but feel Ithaca is a little shortsighted and maybe could improve on better meeting needs of their senior population, which might even improve the senior membership.

Before the Y would have gotten a 5 star review. My only complaint now is too many exercise machines with not enough seating for people in the community. I come here nearly every day and am always seeing open exercise equipment and exercise rooms. However, since the cardio suite opened the seats downstairs are always full and there's never anywhere to sit. Not everyone that comes to the Y comes for exercise. There are many groups that get together at the Y that use the facility for reasons other than exercise. They should be thought of as well.

Showers are nasty and not hygenic. There is no janitor to clean the shower or toilet.
Also the swimming pool is not clean and it's dirty, people usually urinates in the pool.
Not sure how the management actually addresses it.
Staff here are pretty fake with their personality.

Came here because the Ithaca college pool was closed for a big swim meet. I genuinely enjoyed my time swimming here and preparing for my club team meet this Sunday. It wasn’t crowded which was very nice and was overall very clean. My only complaint is that this pool is quite warm which caused a lot of muscle fatigue making it hard to swim for awhile. But on a good note, coming here was a fantastic backup plan to my normal routine and would do it again

The front desk people are super friendly, but the other staff are very unfriendly. And they are very “strict” I went to the weight room in my normal shoes to workout, and some dude came up to me telling me my shoes look to thin and light that I need to wear different shoes. “For my safety” I’ve been to plenty of gyms and never have I heard or experienced something so bazar. If your looking for a nice gym to workout in peace definitely avoid this place and go to a real gym.

I strongly recommend the Ithaca YMCA. As a senior swimmer, I rely on the pool to stay fit. Recently, I wondered if I could improve my swim technique, so I signed up for stroke refinement lessons. After several sessions, I’m thrilled with my improvement. My efficiency and endurance have increased and I enjoy swimming so much more. I discovered that it wasn’t too late for me to learn a better way to swim. The swim instructors are patient and knowledgeable and skilled in breaking down technique into smaller steps. They are supportive and encouraging and seem to enjoy teaching people of all ages.

Very welcoming place, their shower floors are not gross and the water pressure is excellent. Has treadmills and weights and the other gym members are very friendly. I've been teaching swimming here for at least 10 years, and also doing my own swimming here. Super nice facility, front desk staff are the BEST!! Aquatics director is fantastic. However.... beware of expressing opinions to upper management that don't agree with what they're doing. Since re-opening after covid, my husband and I have been regularly donating more than our budget allows to help keep the Y solvent. I raised money to purchase a full year membership for a friend in need. Last week some changes were made to on-line swim scheduling without informing members beforehand. I sent a nasty email. Upper management revoked both my husband's and my memberships!! Still receiving thank-you notes in the mail for our donations signed by the same person!!
We've joined Cortland and find it much better. Read the reviews of both places and see the difference.

After being a loyal member for over two years and never failing to pay my monthly membership fees, I was told (when I went to update my payment card because my bank account was hacked), that my membership had been cancelled and that I would have to pay for the month I never used and the coming month just to rejoin. I was out of town for most of the month of January and never once went to the Y. I don't recall ever signing a contract that said I would be billed for services I never even used. With most subscriptions or memberships if a payment fails, all one has to do is update their payment information to restart their membership. I don't see why I should have to pay two months just because my payment didn't go through. They contact you through email, which is probably the least efficient way these days. If they had called or texted me about it on the 1st of January I would have been aware of the situation way before now. The guy behind the desk was very rude about my concerns as well, and basically treated me like a deadbeat. He acted like the Y doesn't need my money. I felt completely unappreciated for my patronage. I've always thought that this was supposed to be a community centered and family oriented place to work out. My membership was mainly just to use their basketball courts to get back into shape. Unfortunately, you can't really use the courts unless you either come in super early or wait until the early evening, because it's effectively a daycare center for a large portion of the day. That made scheduling time to play difficult due to the unavailability. The condition of their courts is also pretty bad, most of the rims don't even have nets on them.

I have decided to pull my son from the after school program. I came to pick him up a few days ago and he was naked in the locker for at least 5 mins and the counselor Peter was in the locker room doing nothing and allowing him to remain naked when I was getting him dressed Peter was yelling at the other children the other children were using language that was very inappropriate for children at that age to use what peter yelling at the other kids for was not behavior or language and I made a concern about it to Ally and she did not seem to concerned. I have tried to talk to Rachel about it and she refuses to answer my calls and I feel that’s very unprofessional and I don’t want my child going to a afterschool program where parents concerns are not addressed so I’m pulling him from the program.

I have been taking my daughter here for swim lessons for about 3 years. In less than 6 months their prices have increased by $20 for group swim lessons. When we first started going it was $50 which seemed like a lot for one 45 minute lesson once a week. Then they upped it to $61 for the same deal and I just went to sign her up again and it was $70 and they changed them to 40 minute lessons and these lessons have 6 to 12 kids in them. It's not like an individual lesson. Also my daughter has been in the same swimming level for the past 7 rounds of lessons. You would think at these prices they'd actually be learning how to swim.

The Ithaca YMCA is such a unique, valuable, and extremely family-oriented organization. The staff and members are close-knit and so friendly—there is a real sense of community here I've never found at any other gym.

There are plenty of group classes, the machines and equipment are well-kept, and the resources and childcare offerings for kids are phenomenal. This is the only gym I've ever attended with childcare that allows you to leave the facility; i.e. you can jog outside or take care of other errands during two hours per day of childcare included with a membership at no extra cost. Scholarships and lower membership rates are also available for students and low-income families.

As far as demographics, there are many retirees, moms, and small children who attend here, and an overall diverse spread of men and women of all ages who can find what they're looking for.

Although the facility is older with old furniture and interior, etc., the janitorial staff works hard to keep things as clean as possible.

Some classes are better than others as far as how hard they work you. The spin, boot camp, and Pilates classes are great. Yoga is pretty easy going. Zumba isn't as fun as it is at bigger gyms with with more people.

All in all, I highly recommend this YMCA. My kids and I attend almost daily and always have a good experience!
