Hi YTB,
I wanted to share some feedback about the 6:30p class CLASSIC 26+2 HOT 90 on Tuesday, Nov. 11 led by Caro Lokah.
I could see that the studio thermostat was reading 117°F since my mat was positioned in the back corner. Would you say that’s an acceptable temperature? Every website I’ve checked says that temperature is too high for hot yoga, but maybe I’m wrong or missing something.
About halfway through the class (45 minutes in), I started feeling too hot and overheated. I was concerned for my well-being and uncomfortably hot. I quietly let Caro know I was too hot when she was nearby me. So I was preparing to leave the class early, but Caro pressured me to stay. This also made me feel more uncomfortable and embarrassed. I’ve attended hot yoga classes before and even at your studio, but I learned in Caro's class that 117°F is well beyond my tolerance level and a health-risk, in general.
I understand that hot yoga is meant to be challenging, but this level of heat felt unsafe. I wanted to make you aware, as I’m concerned that such high temperatures and Caro's response to my situation could pose a risk to your students’ health. Could you please confirm if this was intentional and Caro's response to my situation follows the guidelines of Yoga Tribe Brooklyn? Up until that class, I was really enjoying YTB.
Thank you for looking into this and responding.
Tracy
P.S. I tried emailing YTB, but there is no email listed on your site. I tried to DM YTB on Instagram, but it says "they don't allow new message requests from everyone." I sent a LinkedIn DM on Nov. 15, but no one replied.

I like the instructors here but am disappointed there is not AC (or it was not put on in any of the classes I went to). Classes that were not billed as hot yoga classes were extremely hot and sweaty, and I almost passed out in Elly’s Vinyasa Flow Plus class.

A great studio with a strong community. All the teachers (regular & substitute) are strong teachers with clear verbal cues, commitment to alignment, and welcoming to all bodies and skill levels. I've been a regular practitioner at this studio for 2-3 years and have always felt a clear sense of community and a welcoming atmosphere for students. They offer regular classes in bikram (26 & 2) & vinyasa styles, and some limited pilates/yin/pop-up offerings. Highly recommend!

I LOVE Yoga Tribe, it’s the perfect neighborhood yoga studio. Good vibes, great instructors, wonderful community. I appreciate how they care and listen to the community, recently they did so by adding a 4:30 heated vinyasa class M-Th, which is a good time for me, so thanks Yoga Tribe. Check out this studio, esp. you live/work in the area, but even if you didn’t, still worth checking out. I’m so glad Yoga Tribe is my yoga home.

“Now The Yoga Begins” Yoga Sutras 1.1
My yoga practice has taken root and flourished at Yoga Tribe.
At 69 years old, every time I show up on the mat; the yoga begins anew with introspective continuity.
This studio comprises a diverse community of students and teachers where an energetic vibe is palpable.
In my experience, instructors embody confidence and approachability. Additionally, class offerings are consistent and vary across many traditions.
With 23 years of service in Brooklyn, Yoga Tribe continues to provide a supportive haven where:

This place has given me so much. A class structure where I can practice and improve... A space to go where I can work on simply not giving up, i.e. falling into smeary slug mode. I am really grateful for Yoga Tribe! So many great teachers -- all with their own vibe. Every class is filled with a variety of folks, so that's great too. Never was itching to be "all about yoga" per se, but alas, here I am at nearly 50... loving it. Been a member for a couple of years now and not sure where the hell I would be without them!

The owners of this studio, Roody and Jess, are magical, thoughtful, and so welcoming. I’ve taken the Bikram series with them for over a decade, through two wonderful pregnancies and love the energy and experience always. The early morning classes are my favorite way to start the day!
Also, last fall, I started taking Pascale’s vinyasa class as well. When taking class with Pascale, it feels like you’re experiencing a universe of knowledge. The focus on energy, breath, strength and release has changed my practice and life in such vital, relaxing, and wonderful ways!
This studio and community is amazing!

Yoga Tribe is the best studio in the area. They’ve got a wide range of classes from 26/2 hot yoga, to beginner and advanced vinyasa, to Burn Lab Pilates. However, the best part about Yoga Tribe is that it has such an amazing community, bringing everyone together. Really. As their motto says, “Every. Body. Belongs.” The space is large and super welcoming, with ample-sized changing rooms and showers. Jess and Roody, the owners, as well as all the teachers, are wonderful and knowledgeable. I’m so happy that Yoga Tribe exists and gives me a place to focus and meditate, even if it’s just for 90 minutes. You won’t find a better studio!

I joined Yoga Tribe Brooklyn already 16 years ago and I would not go for my classes anywhere else. It is a wonderful studio! The teachers are excellent and the studio offers a good variety of classes. The owners have been able to create a special, community oriented environment.

Love this studio, the teachers, the students, and the COMMUNITY at YogaTribe so so much. I started coming to this studio when it was in its first location (much closer to where I live) and there is no hot yoga studio in NYC I have found that comes close to providing the level of care, community and safe supported rigor of a classic 26 +2 yoga practice as well as many other styles of yoga that are also exceptional. No one comes close! Now I enjoy walking or biking through prospect park in all seasons to get to class. Try the intro week and come a few times... maybe you will find a lifelong practice and yoga home here as I have.

A studio and community with a wide range of teachers and styles who make it wonderfully choose-your-own adventure. I’ve been going for almost two years now 2-5x/week when I’m in town and have found it very grounding and an immense source of growth for strengthening my mind-body connection.

I walked past this yoga studio for years, always thinking, “One day I’ll try it.” Well, I finally did—and from the very first class, it felt like home. The energy here is warm and welcoming. You can tell the teachers and owners truly care—they’re experienced, diverse from all walks of life, down-to-earth, and genuinely happy to be there.
One of my favorite things about this studio is the variety of classes they offer. It’s not just one style, which keeps things fresh and helps you grow in different ways. For the very beginner to the most experienced. I honestly wish I joined sooner. Highly recommend! :)

It's been many years since I have belonged to a yoga studio in any meaningful way, and I am so grateful that this studio has come into my life! The space is beautiful, but what makes it truly special are the people, both instructors and the students. Each instructor is intentional, mindful to remember people's names and take care to be attentive throughout and after class. The students are from all walks of life - it's one of the special places where it actually does feel like it is for every body. I was so hooked after getting my monthly membership that I upgraded to the annual as soon as I was able. It is a special place for new students and seasoned as well. Feels very welcoming, peaceful, joyful, and is a gift to our neighborhood.

Yoga Tribe has been my home away from home since I first arrived to Brooklyn in 2013. As a graduate student and NYC teacher looking to achieve balance and calm amidst the chaos of this unrelenting urban landscape, I have shifted and transitioned as Yoga Tribe did from its studio on Flatbush Avenue to Lefferts Garden. Yoga Tribe has evolved and flourished pre and post pandemic because of the loyal, loving, and knowledgeable staff, owners, and students. The yoga is unparalleled and rooted in the tradition that is the original 26+2. Ninety minutes of pure peace, sweat, love, and discipline. Roody, Jess, Alex, Sarah, Elly, Channing, Frank, Kerstin, and so many more have been unrelenting in their commitment to the practice and expansion of group meditation and physical expansion. As a long-time practitioner the 26+2 and the advanced 84 series that has practiced in London, Madrid, Princeton, Philadelphia and countless other studios -over the span of 18+ years- I can say there is no place like home and I am proud, honored, and privileged to call YTB home.

Went once w a friend. Probably won’t be back. The person at the front desk was anything but friendly as well as the instructor. They seem to preach a welcoming environment but I didn’t get that vibe at all. Gave 2 stars bc the yoga class was “good” and the studio was nicely lit and a clean space.

I came to YTB this May excited that there was a good yoga studio in my neighborhood. I kept hearing good things. Since starting I have been blown away by the quality of the teaching, the strong sense of the community, the diversity of classes, and the fact that they are committed to "meet you where you are" in your practice. 6 months later i am 90 classes into my experience, and i have trimmed a "Dad-Bod" into something closer to "has-potential?" My hips and hamstrings are still tight, but I can now do 2 hour advanced classes, and the first thing i am thinking is what my next class will be.
Last thing.. the people are awesome.. don't make the mistake of not trying this out!

I had the pleasure of going here today for my first time (Christmas Eve for the noon hot Vinyasa class) and it was absolutely a solid experience, the heat was great and the teacher was lovely, good music, and the room was well attended but not packed.
I am very excited to go to this local gem more and so grateful we have this hot yoga place in our neighborhood. The bathrooms and the showers were very clean and it was easy to rent a mat and a towel. Chill vibes.
Definitely check it out, and their introductory offer is great , and otherwise very transparent pricing and no high pressure sales tactics, just good hot yoga.
Edit: just wanted to edit this 3 months later, I have continued to have amazing experience here especially with Kate at the Sunday 10am 90 minute hot class, so so so so so good and great community!

I love having this studio in my neighborhood. The classes are challenging and effective. So be ready to sweat. The instructors here took teaching seriously and you can truly learn a lot from one class. I had the pleasure taking Kate, Elly and Monica’s classes which were all fantastic. Also love the diverse crowd this studio draws. Last but not least, the studio itself has A LOT of space and is beautiful. Just wish they have afternoon or evening classes on the weekend.

I recently attended a vinyasa flow class taught by Detbra. She was a very welcoming and inclusive instructor! She encouraged a space where all levels of experience can feel comfortable, challenged, and able to get whatever they seek or need out of the session. The class moved at a great pace and she gave excellent clear guidance for any poses that may have been new or less familiar to some students in the room. I’m looking forward to returning to Yoga Tribe and will definitely keep an eye out for Detbra’s classes!

Finally went to Yoga Tribe Brooklyn and was so rewarded.
After years of wanting to try classes there and not practicing yoga because i was so heart broken my previous yoga teacher stopped giving classes.
I can not recommend this place enough. Took a few classes with Pascale Setbon, she's an extraordinary teacher.
The studios are beautiful, welcoming....finally found my tribe and my place to go for yoga. Can't wait to go back.
It's hard to find the right place and i'm overjoyed and happy to share my experience so more of you can be as lucky as i am.

I had an ankle sprain that made it impossible for me to skateboard without a brace. Even after physical therapy the problem persisted for 2 years till I started doing yoga at Tribe. After just one month of hot yoga twice a week, I could finally get back on the board without the brace! I’m so happy to not have to wear the brace any more. It was such a drag to put it on and take it off and it didn’t smell good.
I recommend Tribe to everyone, not just those interested in sustaining their skateboarding. The instructors are friendly and attentive and the classes will make you feel so good.

I wish I could give more stars. This studio is my absolute favorite and I’ve been practicing yoga in NYC for 10 years. The space is nicely decorated and, being in a warehouse, has a very “brooklyn” feel. It’s clean and lovely but there’s not an ounce of pretentiousness. The focus is on the practice but there’s a pretty consistent community which gives it a welcoming family feel. The teachers are awesome and have different styles so there’s something for everyone. The classes are a definite workout but flexible and the studio gets HOT which I personally love. They also offer “heated” classes that are less hot if you don’t want to be dripping in sweat. The owners (Roody and Jess) are absolutely wonderful. And it’s by far the most diverse studio I’ve ever been to - all ages, races and genders. It’s really such a special place, love YTB.

I normally don’t write negative reviews but I felt it necessary since I felt this class I took at this studio was very dangerous. I took a yoga conditioning class with Elly, who did not ask if anyone had any injuries/ limitations before class and seemed to care more about showing off her own skills than the well being of her class. When I had to modify certain positions due to pain I’ve been experiencing, Elly would not stop encouraging me to go back to the original pose which would have caused me harm. I felt really uncomfortable with her pointing out to everyone that I was not able to do the original pose. On top of her unsafe practices, I found her messaging throughout the class highly disturbing. To quote her, she said it’s scientific fact that in order for our bodies to change we must push ourselves to feel like we’re on the verge of death. As a physical therapist, I couldn’t believe what she was saying and claiming it was scientific fact. Encouraging her class to push themselves to an unhealthy point is completely dangerous. I ended up leaving early because I simply couldn’t take it anymore. For anyone taking a class at this studio, please take care of yourself and listen to your body because sometimes the instructors DO NOT know best.

I love this studio, although I wish they would add: more unheated classes (heated rocket, ashtanga, & intense vinyasa is counterproductive, your body is generating ample heat) and a sunday night unheated candlelit restorative/yin class.

I wish I had better to report. I sat with this for days and still feel inclined to leave this review for the below reasons. I am in NYC on business and found this studio close to my Air BNB. As a yoga instructor/practitioner and WOC, I was delighted to learn it was similarly owned and happy to invest in the week trial pass.
The studio itself is lovely, spacious, and on Monday the air was pleasantly scented with incense. The hot room feels a bit dry, during pranayama my nostrils burned and there didn't seem to be any means of humidification (note that the wildfire smoke issue did not arrive until Tuesday and the air quality was actually good in NYC on this day). The floor is also warped and after a few classes I still hadn't found a truly flat spot.
On Monday I took the 6:30 pm 60m 26&2, taught by Kate. Kate is a wonderful instructor with lovely voice and clear direction, and she is clearly committed to supporting the student body and growing as a teacher by asking for feedback. I had nothing but compliments to give and the energy in the room was high- overall a great experience. It was a delight to take her class and I regret not being able to make it to her 6:30am class on Thursday morning. 5 stars for Kate.
On Tuesday I was not so lucky. I took the 6:30pm 90m 26&2, the instructor of which I will not mention by name as I do not have much positive to say. The most egregious of her follies was to give HANDS ON ADJUSTMENTS WITHOUT CONSENT. As a trauma-informed instructor and in this era, I was deeply disturbed, especially as the adjustment was completely unnecessary - Not to mention that this practice is traditionally hands OFF. She did this multiple times around the room. Perhaps there is a standing agreement with regulars, however I did not get to meet her before class as she arrived after I did. If she had told me she gave adjustments I would have politely declined, however, I was never given this opportunity. I really had to bite my tongue as I did not want to make a scene during class by saying "please do not touch me". The instruction was overall anatomically uninformed- for example in standing head to knee and seated head to knee, she kept repeating to bring the heart forward. As this posture is anterior compression and posterior extension, flexion of the thoracic vertebrae makes little sense- it is not uttitha hasta padangusthasana. The instructor also felt the need to demonstrate many of the postures IN BETWEEN the poses, taking up a lot of time and resulting in less time spent in the poses, as well as the sides being uneven. We spent barely 5 seconds in every set and side of balancing stick except for the final side. Her ego was palpable and a massive turnoff. I could go on about this instructor, but I will conclude in saying that STAYING SILENT ABOUT THESE BEHAVIORS IS HOW ABUSE IS PERPETUATED IN THE YOGA COMMUNITY. 0 stars for this instructor- To be honest, she is a liability to the business.
Wednesday I took the 6:30 60 minute 26&2 with Roody. It was different from the Monday 60 minute, but as good. I enjoyed the flows and there were many unique aspects and sequencing that helped me access my strength. My only complaint is that it failed to elevate my heart rate sufficiently as the series usually does, and even being right next to him, it was a little difficult to hear his instruction. 4 stars for Roody.
Added a star bc Kate is just so great :) And class was juicy as heck yesterday!

We went to this studio regularly before we left Brooklyn in 2021. I think a lot about how I miss this place, so thought I should leave a review. It is the classic hot yoga style, it’s actually hot, and all of the instructors are amazing. It’s a nice community, too. Highly recommend!

YTB has transformed my mind and body in the 9-ish months that I've been going. I feel the strongest, most flexible and calmest I've ever felt in no small part due to consistent attendance at YTB for 2-3 classes per week.
I am partial to the 26+2 class. As a relative beginner, I've enjoyed the consistency of the sequence while interpreting each teacher's unique style and personality. It feels like I learn a new aspect of the same practice every time I'm at the mat.
Clean facility and aesthetically pleasing, everything you need for class, and most importantly, wonderful teachers and staff. I always feel comfortable and welcome, and I'm always excited to return.

Prices are reasonable. They have a generous intro special and a single class is $22. If you buy multiple classes, the price can go down low as $16. Not that many places in Brooklyn where you can get a yoga class at that price.
