Jose A. Ruiz Carreton is a Second Generation Pilates Instructor and founder of Zarhcos Pilates Studio in New York. Since 2004, he’s helped clients move better, feel stronger, and build lasting confidence.
He began his training in 2002 under Romana Kryzanowska, a direct disciple of Joseph Pilates. With 23+ years of experience, Jose brings deep expertise and care to each session. He’s featured in Voices of Classical Pilates for preserving the method’s legacy.
Zarhcos offers private online Pilates sessions, instructor certification, and custom equipment—supporting personal growth and professional development alike.

I have been doing Pilates consistently since 2017 and have taken group and private classes in reformer, Cadillac and chair across more than a dozen studios in the city. Jose is simply the best. No one gives hands on corrections the way he does. He is absolutely meticulous about form. He is demanding and precise but also really funny and encouraging. I always look forward to our weekly sessions.

Jose is at the top of his profession, one of the few second generation teachers left, meaning he was directly taught by a student of Joseph Pilates. His instruction shows it. No workout is unique, every one a different challenge. I've been studying with Jose for 10+ years, and I'm still learning new things! I cherish every lesson with Jose. On a personal level, he's a wonderful and caring human being with an amazing sense of humor!

I have been taking Pilates from Jose for 5 years now - through 3 pregnancies and he has helped me get stronger, leaner and overall healthier throughout this time. It's incredibly hard to make the time with 3 kids and a job, but I always feel 100% after a pilates session with Jose and I can see and feel the difference afterwards. I used to suffer from lower back pain and had hip pain from carrying the kids and now both are gone. I can't recommend Jose enough!!!

When I came to Zarhcos Pilates I was really impressed by not only the space but with the atmosphere I was in. I came in with severe lower back pain and after a session with Jose I was able to walk straight with no pain. For the first time in weeks I was able to sleep without any trouble, and I have gone back for further sessions. I highly recommend Zarhcos Pilates to anyone, whether you need help with mobility or strength, Jose's approach to Pilates is incredible and really gives great results.

Zarhcos and particularly, Jose Ruiz is a great instructor in pilates. I have taken pilates many times before, but Jose is steady and gentle, yet also masterful in the way he helps you understand how your body is to be aligned in each exercise. He wouldn't be happy for me to say he has a great sense of humor! "Everything is Core"

I've taken Pilates numerous times at other institutions and teacher, but Zarhcos and Jose are simply the greatest.
It's hard to pinpoint my experience in words: of course I feel that my body and awareness have improved, but I also feel that, in a strange way, Pilates (and Jose) has changed me as a person. I suspect that it has something to do with Jose, the positive reinforcement that he gave me, and the fun that we were having. I did some crazy things on the apparatus - going upside down, flips, splits, you name it - that were really scary, which I didn't think I could do, but I did them! And I know I did them because I trusted Jose.
I think this trust makes all of the difference, and it's present not just because Jose clearly knows a lot, but also because he possesses those other human qualities that I can't exactly label with words.
I highly recommend seeing him! You won't regret it!

This studio is in a great location with a fantastic instructor. Jose is knowledgeable, fun and has made this beginners learning experience really fun. I can already do so much more than when I first started. Jose switches up the structure of the class, always makes sure to stay true to the Pilates foundations while working your entire body. The small class size (only THREE people!) allows for serious personal attention! I definitely recommend giving this studio a shot. Plus the class prices are incredibly reasonable for the area and Jose gives you more than most instructors-so its a win win :)

In the course of my life, I’ve always been active. I’ve been a runner, done yoga, boxing, weights, and just about everything in between, but nothing has dramatically transformed my body the way that doing pilates with Jose did. I never had any flexibility, especially in my hamstrings. And after the birth of my second child, my core felt completely foreign and detached. I couldn’t access the muscles at all. Working his Jose, I have grown lean and limber, with more flexibility than I ever thought possible. I have less back pain and knee pain, injuries I thought were going to permanently impair my lifestyle.
Most pilates teachers fill the hour with a lot of chit-chat, more appropriate for a friend than a training partner. Jose is friendly, and has a great dry sense of humor, but you will absolutely feel the difference in his training style. He choreographs a session that is just on the edge of what I’m capable of, without ever feeling unsafe or inappropriate. You will feel the cardio benefits of the work, not just the core strengthening. Jose can teach mat, Reformer, Chair, and Cadillac. Jose also believes in teaching his clients so they can develop a routine on their own, helping the movements become a series with transitions, rather than distinct exercises.
