An awesome CrossFit experience!
I dropped in at 12th State CrossFit while in Raleigh and had an incredible experience. Coach Mitch was awesome β knowledgeable, friendly, and made me feel right at home. The entire community was welcoming and supportive, and the workout was both challenging and fun. The facility was spotless and well organized, with a really cool outdoor area that adds to the vibe. If youβre looking for a great CrossFit gym with top-notch coaching and a genuine community feel, 12th Street CrossFit is the place to go. Highly recommend! πͺπ½π₯

12th State CrossFit is an awesome gym with a great community. The coaches are knowledgeable, encouraging, and make sure youβre moving the right way, whether youβre brand new or experienced. Every workout is challenging but scalable, and the energy in the room makes you want to push harder. Highly recommend to anyone looking for real results and a supportive atmosphere

I have nothing but good things to say about 12th State. I came to this gym after my previous gym closed, and I felt welcomed with open arms. Chris, the owner, is obviously very passionate about his business, the way they operate, and the well-being of the coaches and gym members.
The programming is fantastic. I'm by no means a pro CrossFitter, but I very much appreciate the challenge of 12th State's workouts. I feel like they're pushing me to be a stronger version of myself.
What I'm most impressed with, though, are the coaches. I've enjoyed classes with Whitney, Chris, Benji, Erik, Maddy, and Mitch. They don't just lead class and call cues. They actively teach throughout class and offer advice and corrections on form, all while being motivational and fun. I feel like I'm not just "going to CrossFit" but that I'm receiving a CrossFit education. They also have multiple options for scaling and modification, making the workouts accessible for many fitness levels.
Most recently, I've been through a low back strain with sciatica, and I had to miss a week of class. Coach Benji went above and beyond by inviting me in for a 1-1 conversation to brainstorm ideas on how to keep doing the sport safely, and he even offered to help me plan workouts/movements to do until I'm back in healthy condition for full participation. This really was next-level caring and compassion.
I look forward to continuing at this gym, and for anyone looking for a new box I really can't recommend the 12th State community enough!

This is the best CrossFit box with the best owners and members. They treat their athletes like family. Coaches Whitney and Benji are top notch and truly spent time with you to ensure your technique improves and help you to work around old injuries.
In addition, the 12th State Nutrition program with Coach Chris is a fantastic program, which can help you lose those that few stubborn pounds of fat, while maintaining your muscle mass, energy, and performance.

I joined pretty soon after I had a severe injury, and yet, just based on one interaction, I knew I was in great care here! I've been finding it easy and more motivating than ever to continue to build more strength and skills.
I can't praise the coaches enough for being so warm and welcoming. I've learned so much already, and it's not my first rodeo with CrossFit! The space stays clean, the people are incredible, and we're all growing together.
Amazing community all together.

What sets this place apart from other CrossFit gyms are the coaches. Athletes receive tips and cues to get the most out of the workouts. Also, the workouts are hard!

12th State Crossfit is without a doubt the greatest gym in the world. From my first day at the gym I felt a sense of belonging I hadn't experienced at any other gym in the past. The community and atmosphere here is filled with camaraderie, positivity, and encouragement, which pushes you to continue striving for growth and improvement.
At the heart of 12th State is the exceptional coaching led by Whitney and Benji, whose leadership as head coaches is unparalleled. They are wholeheartedly invested in each member's success, delivering expertise and guidance both inside and outside of class to improve skills and movements. Their commitment to inclusive programming with scaling and progressions ensures everyone, regardless of skill level, feels welcomed and supported. They also make a point of getting to know members individually and make each and every person feel important. This same approach also applies to the other incredible coaches on the 12th State team.
The variety and intensity of the programming at 12th State keeps the workouts challenging and fun, making every class a highlight of the day. I've experienced significant progress in my strength, endurance, and overall fitness since joining, and I've been able to make achievements in certain skills within the sport I never remotely imagined I'd be able to do.
When I first started at 12th State I was only doing open gym because I was intimidated by the idea of joining a class and being able to keep up with everyone else. I didn't realize at the time all of the potential for growth I was denying myself by not being exposed to the coaching, or subject to the incredible support of the members. Benji was the coach that continued to encourage me to step out of my comfort zone and join class, and for that I will forever be grateful. He is an amazing coach and human being.
Mollie and Dale as gym owners are also amazing. Their dedication is evident in every aspect of the gym's operation from its meticulous upkeep to the exceptional member experience they provide. Their passion for transforming people's lives through fitness and wellness comes across in how much they invest back into the facility, their coaches, and the community.
12th State also has a wonderful nutrition program led by Chris. I've worked with the program for the past 9 months and have seen great progress with the habits-focused approach Chris uses. His coaching style fosters a true partnership, with personalized plans tailored to your specific goals. His emphasis on sustainability and practicality sets this program apart, making it a true lasting lifestyle change rather than just a diet.
If you're looking for a gym where you'll not only get in the best shape of your life and achieve all of your goals within this sport, but also be surrounded by the greatest people who motivate and inspire you every single day to be a better version of yourself, then this is the place.
12th State is more than just a gym, it is home to me. I feel so lucky to know the incredible coaches and athletes at this gym, and I am eternally grateful every single day to be a part of this community.

This will be my go-to box when I come back to Raleigh. The second I walked in the coach was very welcoming, and everyone made me feel like I was hanging out with friends at my box in Washington. On top of how at home I felt, the layout was perfect allowing the transition between movements to be smooth, and has a beautiful outdoor area. In addition, the programming for the day was perfect as it allowed me to focus on re-learning technical skills on a lift. Thank you for having me and I cannot wait to come back!

Dropped in during Thanksgiving week to keep up my (olympic-style) weightlifting training momentum. The gym had plenty of space and tons of equipment to use even during full Crossfit classes. There is also both a covered and un-covered yard for nice days if you want to train outdoors. Staff was helpful and responsive via email and in person. I'll be back any time I'm in the area visiting family.

Today I got an email from 12th State thanking me for being a member for one year. I am just about 47 years old, have never been remarkably active or physically fit, and in May 2021 was weighing in at 224 when I sent a plea for help to Mollie at 12th State. I wanted a group environment to push me, and hands on training to make sure that push was safe. Iβd heard all the negatives about this type of training, but also was intrigued as it seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. I was super insecure about this, but the Google and Facebook reviews were so positive and they all said the same thing: Hands on coaching, safe environment, able to scale to your abilities and still push your limits, with an amazing community of both coaches and members.
My first workout was a mix of box steps ups, single arm dumbbell cleans, burpees, and ring rows. I couldnβt do more than two burpees in a row without needing a break. I thought I was going to die when I was done. But Coach Whitney and every member there were so supportive, I couldnβt help but come back for another go. The next session was Gwen, and I barely managed to get through it using only the barbell.
A year later, Iβm down to 207 lbs. I can run a 5K. Iβve successfully completed a 100 burpee WOD for time, and today I hit a 155# clean and jerk (A year ago Iβd have told you a clean and jerk was something very different, for sure). All of this may sound like nothing to the average athlete. But if youβre like I was a year ago: older, completely out of shape, uneducated about fitness, intimidated as hell, and unsure where to turnβ¦I suggest you turn to 12th State CrossFit.
Every coach is amazing, professional, and has provided me insight on how to safely improve my performance. Not a bad seed in the bunch. The facility is super clean, well managed, and Mollie and Dale (owners) really care about the members on a personal level. And all the members here are just great people. I owe a lot of my progress in the last year to the support from the community. Whether youβre an experienced athlete, or like me and the total opposite, this is the box to join.

I've attended a handful of sessions at 12th State and already grateful for my time here. From the second you step through that door, a coach is present to greet you and the community is readily supportive. The facility is clean, up-to-date, and well equipped. I also appreciate that there is a significant focus on proper form, safety, and appropriate scaling options for the WODs. As someone who is in her early 30s and is just getting back into crossfit after 4 years, I value the coaches' attentiveness and feedback while you're working out. Even simple conversations on whether and how far I should challenge myself (or scale back) are beneficial. Helps me feel reassured that my foundations are sound while I work my way to more technically advanced movements.

I absolutely cannot recommend this gym more. The owners and coaches are fantastic in every way! They are knowledgeable, experienced, and great teachers who care about their athlete's fitness and progression. The community they have cultivated is unmatched. The members are friendly, fun and treat you like family. The causes and charities this gym supports positively impacts our local community, and the events they put on are always a blast. Plus, the facility is large, up-to-date and clean, and there are more class times to choose from than any gym I have been a member of or visited, and they are open 6 days a week and have 3 fitness paths to choose from depending on your goals. They Post gymnastic clinics and lifting clinics and nutritional challenges and even have kids/teen classes, custom programming, in-house sports massage, and nutritionists available! Best gym in Raleigh!

Wow is this place legit! This βboxβ is one of the largest Crossfit gyms I have ever seen. It has everything you need for any kind of workout. The staff is extremely welcoming and friendly. The coaches have a lot of experience and know what theyβre doing. One of the coaches, Whitney, has competed at a high level, and can offer a wealth of knowledge to a client at any skill level (and she is very friendly, down to earth, and fun to be around). 12th State is the best CrossFit facility in Raleigh! I've tried several but none compare to 12th State's top notch programming (easily scalable to all fitness levels and interests), cleanliness (have never seen such a clean CF box before!), coaches (hilarious, entertaining, knowledgeable, and dedicated to their members), and overall excellent management. 12th State prides themselves on 5 star customer service, and they do a great job at it. I've been a member for two years and recently tried to switch to a different gym. I missed 12th State too much and came back! You won't be disappointed.

When I think of 12th State, I think βsecond home.β Not because I spend countless hours there (which I may or may not do at times) but because the environment, the people and the coaches make me feel βat home.β This community has truly become my family. The coaches take care of you and genuinely take a special interest in you to help achieve whatever goals you have. There will always be the right programming for you. It doesnβt matter what fitness level you think you are, the workout will always be as intense as you want, or need it to be. And then some more β¦ simply because we all need someone to push us a little extra. -- Having had a coach and teammates my entire life, I was looking for a place where I could find something similar. 12th State CrossFit gave me that, and so much more. Fitness, nutrition, great coaching, support (of any kind), weekend activities, holiday activities, fun, friends β¦ a second family, a second home.

I can't say enough good things about 12th State CrossFit! I've been a member for over two years and wish I'd joined the day they opened the doors. Here are a few reasons why:
- Physical Location:
- gym is clean and very well organized.
- there is a 200 m, 400 m and mile loop easily accessible
- classes have a 20 person cap to ensure athletes get focus
- all equipment works and is wiped down after each use
- garage doors that open on both sides and a big fan
- Coaches:
- I'm certain that we are the luckiest athletes in the world to have the coaches we have available to us!
- A couple of the coaches are elite athletes that compete professionally or at the Games, so offer TONS of knowledge
- every coach is a top notch athlete, yet all are humble, down-to-earth and make everyone feel welcome
- I am thrilled to take a class with any of the coaches that are on the schedule and appreciate the way the schedule is rotated so that I get to experience them all
- there is an intro class in which one can try out the gym for a month to learn the movements with no contractual commitment
- Head Coach:
- Coach Cliff is the nicest person, stellar athlete and a great coach!
- programs 8 week cycles and switches it up to focus on different skills (ie, gymnastics, weightlifting)
- if there is a reasonable suggestion made, he'll organize a survey to get feedback from members
- sends newsletters to keep us all feeling connected and informed
- Misc:
- body comp measurement offered every quarter
- massages offered at gym on regular basis
- special workshops offered to focus on certain movements
- online shop to order supplements and t-shirts
- Community:
- a really nice group of people of all ages and all skill levels
Highly recommend! : )

If you had told me I would be power cleaning or split jerking a year ago, I would have asked you what those things were. I'm definitely still a crossfit newbie, but the owner Cliff takes each new member through an introductory course with the common movements. Each class can be modified to your comfort level, with multiple options of movements for the day. All of the coaches are rockstars, they make every class fun and always offer personalized advice to become better in the sport. The community continues to grow and the flexibility with the class schedules is great. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a start to crossfit in Raleigh.

Most well-organized gym I've ever been a part of. Not only the workout routines - but the coaches and their coaching philosophy. They have their act together - are coordinated, passionate - and most importantly, they are in sync with the program they've built. It doesn't matter which coach I get, at what hour of the day - the workout is consistent. I personally am a newbie to crossfit, just 3 months in now - so scoping out gyms I was a little intimidated at first, because I knew I didn't have the strength and fitness levels of anyone that was out there. What drew me to 12th State was the fact their instructors took the time (and continue to take the time) to work with me on the correct mechanics and techniques. The weights will come - but having a consistent foundation from all of the trainers was key for me. Obviously - it's been a very positive experience with the members as well. Very encouraging, and very energetic which I need to do an early morning class. I know 3 of the members qualified for regionals and one is competing at the Reebok Crossfit games - so the level of athlete here ranges from a beginner like me - to your ESPN athletes. Nothing quite like it, and I'm glad I did my homework and ended up at 12th State! Highly recommend it for all.
