I moved here and joining this club was my highlight of living in Asheville. The general manager immediately connected me with tennis players equal to my skill and everyone was always welcoming.
Great place to workout, play tennis, swim, hang by the pool, or even bring your laptop and work. As a remote worker, I'd come here often just to change the scenery and get a quick workout in around my work schedule.
Tennis pros are also awesome as well and no one has an ego. Whether you are a 2.0 or a 5.0+ player, you'll find your group to hit with and the staff here will make sure you feel welcome.

I really like the club in general. I’ve met some nice folks, but the pool has been closed most of the fall because of the hurricane and then the pool heater breaking multiple times. I had to pay to go swim somewhere else because that is my main exercise. They only gave 20% refund since they have a gym and a hot tub and sauna…they broke the pool facilities down into thirds and said the pool is only a quarter of your membership or something like that meanwhile, the sauna and hot tub have also been broken many times. Who is gonna go pay $40 a week as a guest at the Y then drive over to use the gym at the club when the Y has a gym? Just not fair. Meanwhile, we still don’t know when the pool will be fixed. If I’d known this in September, I could’ve quit and rejoined months later even with the joining fee, would have saved money. And I could’ve joined the Y same thing paid the joining fee, still saved money…

My family enjoyed this facility very much and met many good people through it. We were very grateful.
However, they didn't offer refund for unoperated dates after the storm. They didn't get back to our multiple inquiries to ask when they resume their service till the end of October, and they then said they were already running the place before that.
The boiler broke many times for weeks this year, and we get freezing cold water pool - especially with no steam room after the hurricane!
It's been quite stressful, and on top of that, they raised our membership fee without our consent!!

Great facility with extremely Hospital Staff. Sauna, pool, Jacuzzi, and a beautiful 9 hole golf course perfect for practice/casual play. Insane value in an accessible part of Asheville. To top it off the hotel restaurant and bar are great!

What a great place to play and enjoy free time and at a very reasonable price. Just slightly more than a YMCA membership and it includes pickleball and tennis. The club strikes a good balance between luxury and budget - facility wise. Cenyu runs the pickleball program with charm and professionalism. Her recent program changes and explanation to members in person and by email indicate the forward thinking she brings to the job. It just keeps getting better at ARC for pickleball. I'm in my 4th year as a member. Definitely the best place in Buncombe County to play pickleball . . . . by far.

ARC is an incredible tennis community. Lots of hitting partners of all different levels and easy to meet people. The coaches are knowledgeable and friendly. Indoor hard courts, outdoor clay, and outdoor hard courts make tennis available all year. The place is practically a second home for me.

Called 3 times, left two voicemails to make an appointment to tour the club, prior to joining; never received a call back. If they treat a prospective member like this, I can’t imagine how poorly they treat their members. After this experience and reading all the negative reviews we will look at the YMCA and the Omni Park Grove for membership.

Generally, the facilities are run down and not maintained well. Membership fees keep increasing, but almost weekly emails about this-or-that being out-of-service. Management is almost non existent.

If you’re thinking about Golfing here I would change your mind quick.. They don’t use Tee times it’s “first come first serve” which is a ridiculously stupid way to manage a golf course. Tee Times are specifically designed to keep Golfers from waiting and sitting on top of each other. there’s clearly a lack of ability or intelligence in owning and operating a golf course by the ARC.

I've been a member of Asheville Racquet Club since 2003. The club has the BEST tennis pros offering a wide variety of clinics for all ability levels. I recently participated in a mixed doubles clinic with Jeff Duncan, he identified a weakness in my overhead and gave clear, concise feedback for me to fix it! Love ARC!!

Since joining Asheville Racquet Club less than a year ago my membership rate has changed twice due to capital expenses. The email cited to be able to provide a valued experience. To speak on the experience, the gym and locker rooms are not cleaned in the morning. When you come in all the trash bins are full and there is often no paper towels or hand soap. Those types of items are bare minimum for a gym. On top of that the water has been on and off in the facility. I joined a gym with a locker so I can get ready for work, if I can’t get ready for work after my work out, it’s not convenient and it’s not serving the purpose or the value I need. In addition, the only services I use on the gold membership are the gym and pool so I’m not an excessive user of any services.
In short, I think the value is truly lost on me when all the capital improvements are going to the south Asheville location and the gym is consistently dirty without and without hot water.

We LOVE the swimming instructor, Shalene! She’s the reason we joined the Racquet Club. My son’s swimming has improved so much. We’ve had great interactions with everyone that works there (except the director) and we love the facility. The indoor pool is usually 85 degrees which is quite pleasant and the outdoor pool is wonderful in the summer.

Clean, pleasant facilities. Upbeat and challenging classes. Childcare. Indoor and outdoor pool, hot tub and steam room. All at a reasonable price. No other secular gym with an indoor pool can touch this. Love that it also gives access to two locations. I wish there were more locations.

This "racquet" club forces individual members who are only interested in tennis to also pay for pool, golf, fitness center, and childcare access. $129 a month plus additional fees just to have court access is absurd. I guess they only want to see a certain inco.e bracket on their courts.

Excellent tennis facility. They have large number of outdoor courts and have indoor tennis courts too. The lounge social area is great inside. Came here because of a usta tennis tournament which was well organized by their staff. Over all one of the best tennis facility in this region.

The Racquet Club saves our winters! We love the ARC in summer, but we REALLY enjoy it during the long, cold winters in Asheville. It’s easy to forget it’s chilly outside when all 3 kiddos are busy swimming in the indoor heated pool.

Terrible experience. Was told the pool would be open until 9 so we structured our evening in town around that, only to show up at 7:30 and he refused to let us in for “insurance reasons”. Very frustrating. Honestly our whole stay at the resort has been far less than we hoped for.

I use this location solely for the gym and the gym isn’t the best. Missing a lot of machines I would consider staples in a gym and the energy levels are very low and not motivating. Usually not many people though so you don’t need to wait for weights/benches or be around a lot of people.

Today is May 23rd it's my first visit back since the pandemic and I have to say props to the crew at ARC downtown for keeping the facilities so nice clean up to date and everyone safe! There I was one of three the first swimmers, actually the second person in the pool and that Waters never felt better ever! McKenzie was super nice and got my 20 laps in! Thank you for being open during this uncertain time! I'm so glad to still be a member here, thank you everyone ARC Downtown.

Pool is great and well run. Best pool experience in asheville.
EDIT: I wrote this review a couple years ago. I gave 5 stars because we were happy with how the pool was run. My wife and I loved going every day to swim laps for exercise. We used the hot tub and steam room. It wasn't perfect, but they clearly cared about patrons and maintenance, etc.
Now, it kinda sucks. Things are always broken, and they don't seem to care. The staff is rude and indifferent. I'm close to cancelling my family's membership. The only reason I still give this place money is because my daughter is on the swimteam, and they have good coaches. This is really sad for me to say, because I have spent the last 8 years here with my family and friends. We have all enjoyed the pools together. We were and are always polite, follow the rules, and etc. That said, I cannot recommend the ARC downtown pool. There are better pool options (outdoor and indoor) in the area.

Recently joined the Asheville Racquet Club. Both facilities provide both indoor and outdoor courts. The two locations each offer a wide variety of activities, including tennis clinics and workouts, and a variety of other classes (spin, yoga, etc) as well as having strength training facilities. And the club staff are both friendly and knowledgeable.

The people that are just lovely helpful and don't mind assisting if needed and the manager Mike Green is very insightful a wonderful addition there and his assertiveness powerful attitude of wanting you to achieve your goal whatever that may be it's just impactful. And not only that you get that one-on-one treatment field and that's what I like and most gyms is overcrowded not enough instructors to assist and most of them be cluttered and stuffy but not here it's just enough room for you to move around. It's just a pleasant experience overall that's all I can say

I am so grateful for the Asheville Racquet Club! I have been able to swim year round, which has been an essential piece of my well being. The saltwater pool feels luxurious and affordable! The pool atmosphere and culture is friendly and welcoming, and mostly people are respectful of each other's space and time. Over the past several months they have done their best to adhere to health guidelines while offering us as much as they can. Not sure what I would do without them!!!

My family have been members for about 6 months and love it. There are 3 packages to choose from, including one for those of us that don't "racquet" (like me and my family). The child care hours are very convenient and the pool is fairly available with everything they have going on in the winter. Hoping the outdoor pool will allow more water access duringe the summer. The staff is nice and the facility is clean. Mike, the Sales Manager is great! We love the occasional events held here and enjoy the community atmosphere. Recommended.

I’ve been a happy member of the racquet club for 3 years.
I tend to be very particular about gyms (I.e. atmosphere, cleanliness, crowdedness etc.). That being said, I enjoy the feel of both locations. The south club’s remodel is gorgeous! I find both downtown and south to be clean no matter what time of day I go. I’ve not had any trouble having waiting for machines in the weight room.
It should be noted that I don’t regularly play tennis, so i’ve not experienced any issues getting a court; as has been mentioned in other reviews.
The yoga classes i’ve frequented are all wonderful and I would highly recomend all of the instructors.
My only complaint is that they aren’t open later!
Overall, very happy member!

I had a membership here for a two year period, but finally decided to leave due lack of standard facility lack of training programs, general amenity discomfort and poor management. The program training director (who also works as director of sales) could not address simple program questions and really failed when it came to current knowledge of exercise science. He did offer me a tiny 1970's BPA styrofoam cup filled with uncertified coffee. When I said "no thank you" he proceeded to tell me that it was loaded with "antioxidants." A random side note: he also thought Spain was not a Mediterranean country. Very high staff turn over at the front desk. Off putting practices such as writing on the gym towels with magic markers. The mens locker room at the downtown resort location is so small that your backside often brushes with other members while trying to get your pants on. Did I mention that the DT location only has ONLY two showers? The sauna at the South location is a very small dark and creepy closet with a single light. No indoor pool at the South location. I moved to the Grove Hotel Athletics Center and I have been very-very happy.

If you play tennis this is the place to be. All the teaching pros have went out of their way to help my family in any possible way. Numerous tennis clinics ranging from free to advanced to show up and play. Parking is a little tight and every once in a while you might have to wait for a towel even though I had a pro (Jeff) go get one fresh out of the dryer one time. Pool is convenient with the hot tub. Indoor courts are nice in the winter months.

If you need to move or need to do anything outside of ARC policy, they make it laborious. This is a for profit business that is not focused on customer service. While the salt water pool is nice and the locker rooms are clean, it is hard to get to and from, and ARC would not survive in a bigger city for the lack of attention to detail and their sticky membership packages.

Management rarely responds to emails, and doesn't resolve anything when they do. They are always out of towels. I've had to dry off with my dirty gym shirt and return to work. My husband has had to do this multiple times. It's ridiculous. Kids overrun their pool; don't expect to be able to lap swim. Kids also open and close the steam room door, constantly. Took them six months to fix their sauna. Save your money. Plenty of free courts in Asheville if tennis is your thing. Aston Park has clay courts open to the public for 5-10 bucks. Wish I would've known all this before becoming a member.
