Jonathan is top notch. I came to Athletic Golf Fitness looking for an overall assessment of my swing but left with so much more. Jonathan prescribed a golf-specific functional strength training program addressing some of the constraints identified during my initial TPI assessment. He programs the workouts into the Train Heroic App. The app is very easy to use and the exercises usually have helpful video instructions. Plus, he even tailors the exercises based on the equipment that I already have at home! He is very responsive to questions/feedback and continuously tailors the exercises to increase difficulty and/or to address limitations that come up over time. I have been extremely satisfied with the personalization of the program and have seen dramatic improvement in my mobility, consistency and distance out on the golf course. If you are looking to improve your overall golf fitness and prevent injury, I highly recommend Jonathan and Athletic Golf Fitness.

I retired from work and began golfing every day. I assumed I would get better playing so much, practiced often and even bought a simulator so I could hit balls more conveniently. I played, practiced and received regular lessons. The more I played, harder I worked the more my body hurt. My handicap went from an 18 to a 22 over then next 18 months. I was very frustrated. A couple of my different instructors would hint that my decline and pain in my hips, knees and lower back, was due to age and I should get used to it. I am in reasonably good shape and never bought that line of thinking. I knew innately my problems were something fundamentally wrong with my swing and the pros and instructors were missing the real problem. The more I worked on my game the worse I got. I met Jonathon at Athletic Golf Fitness through a 75 year buddy of mine who consistently was outscoring me and taking my money. After a few months of getting pummeled, I called Jonathon. My first session was intense. He used tools to measure my swing, the flexibility of my upper, lower and middle section of my body. He immediately identified my weaknesses and developed a custom program of exercises and stretches that I was to do every day. I was very impressed. The workouts take about 20 minutes a day. Jonathon provides an app for your phone that walks you through each exercise or stretch in detail. I saw immediate results. In fact, my handicap went from a 22 to a 14 in 60 days. My drives went from 190-200 to 220-250. That makes the game of golf easier. I have also added distance and consistency to all my irons and I no longer hurt after each round. Since then, many of my friends have gone to see Jonathon and they too have all seen good results. In my experience I would not call Jonathon a golf instructor. We did not spend much time on the fundamentals of my golf swing itself. Although he is incredible knowledgeable about the swing itself. He concentrated on my body, activating areas and creating more flexibility thus allowing me to swing much easier and with more power and consistency. If you are having any of these issues, I strongly suggest you seek out Athletic Golf Fitness and let Jonathon have a look at you. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Jonathan is all you could ever want in a trainer. I use both the app as well as in person training. He personalizes both workouts to achieve my short and long term goals.
The app was essential during the COVID lockdown and I still continue to use it on my off days from the gym. The videos that are included insure that I am using the proper technique for each exercise.
I highly recommend Jonathan! You will not find anyone more knowledgeable, dedicated, innovative and caring.

Jonathan Avalos/ Athletic Golf Fitness was referred to me by a fellow golfer about a year ago as a highly qualified fitness instructor geared toward to improving the golf swing through individually designed exercises targeting improved rotation, stability and flexibility. Jonathan begins with a personal assessment that measures a variety of flexibility and rotation and then in turns, develops a specific individual set of exercises accessed through the Train Heroic App. The Train Heroic App is easy to use and the exercises vary depending upon the day you have set aside to go through the program. Jonathan will change exercises to increase the difficulty and with user feedback. Jonathan is extremely responsive with any questions and provides valuable feedback. I have been extremely satisfied with the program as I have seen a dramatic improvement in my flexibility, stability and rotation in the golf swing.

The online training experience with Jonathan Avalos has been rewarding and easy to implement, My coach, Jonathan, is readily available by e-mail, text, or in person at his facility. The app we use for the program is easy to navigate and to understand.
Due to Jonathan's approach my training is very personalized and geared directly for me. Any needed adjustments to the plan can be done on the fly via electronic means or face to face meetings.

I would highly recommend Jonathan at Athletic Golf Fitness to anyone looking to get stronger/more mobile or improve their golf game. After an initial in person assessment, Jonathan put together a personalized fitness plan that addressed the strengths and weaknesses he identified in my body as they relate to my golf swing. He also took the time to explain how the weaknesses negatively affected my swing and described how the exercises in my program would help me improve my swing. It was amazing how closely Jonathan’s diagnosis of my swing faults (based purely on a strength and mobility screening) matched up with the technical elements of the swing that I’ve been working on with my coach.
In addition to a handful of in-person sessions, Jonathan has me following an at-home workout program that he put together on the Train Heroic app. The app has proven to be a fantastic tool to track my training. The easy-to-use app presents me with my personalized training program everyday. The app is easy to navigate and makes it easy to get in a workout everyday, whether I’m at home or on the road. Jonathan will periodically update my training program based on feedback that I am able to provide him through the app. Train Heroic does a great job of tracking your training progress to ensure you’re continuing to improve. Jonathan is a fantastic trainer. Aware of all of the current trends and advances in training. He isn't just pushing a standard program, he is abreast of the current training regimens on a sport by sport basis and will custom tailor to your needs and desires.
We have been using an App to set my workouts for the last year, changing the program recently to focus on gaining mass. He is very responsive to any questions or changes I request to alter the program and, when we have been allowed, will meet in person to ensure each exercise is performed properly for maximum results.

Jonathan was recommended to me through a friend when I wanted to start my fitness journey and work on some areas of my body that have always given me pain. I am also a golf professional and wanted to get faster, stronger, and more balanced in my swing. Jonathan was happy to help and after an initial assessment of my strength and balance we started a fitness program to meet my goals. He was always quick to help when I had a question about the program or it was time for a new program. I use the Train Heroic app when I am not working out with him directly, and it helps making working out simple. There is a clear routine with easy to watch videos if you do not understand a specific move. Working with Jonathan over the past 6 years has definitely improved my strength, coordination, golf swing, and overall well being of my body. Jonathan Avalos is an exceptional trainer. He is very knowledgeable of the mechanics of the human body as to musculoskeletal and anatomy. We do the heavy lifts, bench press, squats and dead lifts, etc. He is meticulous and exact on how you execute each and every exercise. In my seven years as his client I have never had an injury.
I feel he is on the cutting edge of his profession. Continuously educating himself with online courses, seminars, books and events; his clients receive the latest in fitness techniques, evaluations and equipment.
Jonathan is goal focused with his clients. He pushes you beyond what you think you can do. I am 70 years old, last week I knocked out 24 chin ups. I could barely do 2 when I started training. I am now able to do the basic strength exercises to the point of above 90% or more of individuals in my age group. I showed up three times a week; he did the programs, the coaching, and the nutrition. I am in the best shape of my life. I am convinced I have one of the best personal trainers available.
