I had a blast playing Belmont Lake Golf Club in Rocky Mount, NC! The greens were in awesome shape, even though they’d been punched recently. Really thought this was going to kill the round and it didn’t even bother us all day. The tee boxes were solid, with really nice grass. This course is a gem! The design is clever, forcing you to think about every shot, and I loved how it played tough but fair. Finished in under 4.5 hours, which is always a win.

4.5 STARS: I love this place. I drive an hour to play there. It is a hidden gym. The course is on par with $100+ raleigh courses. Fun layout, no houses on the holes! Great facilities, organized staff. Great food.

The ONLY negative thing is the bathrooms are gross. You walk in and you get smacked in the face with the smell of urine. Urinals are always full and un flushed (which is a shared issue with the guests). You can’t train the public; so invest in some auto flush toilets and a more frequent cleaning schedule.

The food is awesome in the kitchen, they do a great job. Get the 3 Wood sandwich, she thick!

FYI: You leave the clubhouse and don’t return until hole 18. I like this but some don’t. The do have cart girls making rounds.

Just played this course yesterday! We drove almost an hour to play and were not disappointed at all. The guy in the pro shop was extremely helpful and nice. It is a really well kept course suitable for players of all levels. The fairways are forgiving, but the greens and various tee boxes make scoring a challenge. I can’t wait to play it again when the grass is in full bloom.

I have been looking forward to playing here, since we moved to the area. I have over an hour drive, so not real accessible to me. Well I won't be back if ever. In fact I didn't get to completely play the course. Only holes 1-4 and 14-18 were open, because they were aerating the others. The guy at the front desk starts complaining about Tee Times not putting a message on their site, so I either play these holes twice, or go back to them for a refund. Well, I think they should both be responsible for making sure the public knows, but something tells me all they care about is profit.
I drove that far, so I decided to play and I drove by the other holes that were unplayable. It is a big league, must play course, if cared for, I'll give it that. However, the course was also not in very good shape. The fairways and tee boxes were all burned out. Another golfer told me their irrigation system was broke, so they couldn't water. Make sure you call and ask about course conditions before you play here. I learned my lesson the hard way

This is my new favorite course. I feel tempted to revise some previous course reviews based on comparisons to this. Shot my best round in ages which I felt even better about since this course deserved it. Into the review.

Tee Boxes 5/5 - I played the tips, but there was no obvious wear and tear on the shorter tees either. Grass was plush enough to tee up fairway wood in some cases.

Fairways 5/5 - I've played plenty of courses and these have to be top 3 in public courses under $60. I never had a bad lie in the fairway, and I hit half of them today. That being said, the rough wasn't too terrible either.

Greens 5/5 - Lightning fast. Easily running an 11 on stimp. Leaving downhill putts is suicide. I lost alot on putts just trying not to blow past the hole. That being said, they are immaculate.

Bunkers 5/5 - I don't like rating bunkers, but I end up in the on occasion and it's frustrating to play out of shabby sand. These were well taken care of, and placed strategically in landing spots. I ended up in one on the drive on 17 and had to scramble for bogey.

Amenities 4.5/5 - Large putting green and wide grass driving range with lots of targets. Lack of a practice bunker that I could find.

Layout 5/5 - There were a few holes that I had to stop to admire for a while before and after my tee shot because they were so nice. The over water par 3 3rd and tricky par 5 11th being my favorites. (Got par on both too)

Overall, I have no issues driving an hour over here. I got lucky with a hot deal and coupled with a coupon paid $18. I'd be willing to pay more, but glad I don't have to. I'll be back with friends.

I love the course. The greens are phenomenal. The tee times were to close together. We had people we were waiting on ahead of us, and people waiting on us to tee off constantly. Also the usb ports on the golf carts were wrecked. This is something the club needs to correct.

We go to lake Gaston every year for summer vacation, you won’t find a nicer course around for the money. Challenging but fair, greens are always in excellent condition and so is the rest of the course. It’s worth the 45 min drive from the lake to play. One of our favorites

I have played here many times and normally it is good. Today I showed up and payed full price just to find out that they had recently punched the greens. I would normally not have a problem but putting and chipping were nearly pointless. The ball was bouncing all over the place and everything over 3 feet felt like the luck of the bounce. Normally this is a great course but I would give it a couple weeks at minimum for the greens to heal to pay this kind of money for sub par conditions.

It didn’t help that no one was marshaling the course. Very slow play that could have been avoided if one group would have let some people though.

The greens are spectacular. Course was an absolute blast to play. The par 3’s are beyond memorable. The staff was extremely professional. Had one of the most precious rounds of my entire life here on Easter morning as the first one out. I’ll never forget the moments I spent playing here. It was spiritually very special to me and if you ever get a chance, make sure you stop by and play this course.

Even though I've passed through Rocky Mount maybe hundreds of times over the last 20 years I never knew this course existed. It's absolutely worth finding. The location is very accessible from both I95 and 64 E/W.

It's still early in the season but the conditions are very, very good. It was designed to be part of the Ford's Colony group but it was sold in 2008. There are some houses on some of the holes but on other holes there's nothing, just a golf hole in the wilderness. This makes for a very serene but challenging experience.

The course is pretty long but wide fairways and a variety of tee boxes make it very playable for everyone. The greens were perfect in April. I'll be back to play at least once or twice more this year.

I didn't get a chance to try out the grill but next time I will.

The food is not as good as they say the chef and manager are very rude to customers. The staff was very polite but the manger Frances is very disrespectful to the staff and customers. I would not recommend going to this place. It is one of the worse experiences of food services I have ever dealt with.

Belmont Lakes is a beautiful course, but it is clear that the members have a balantant disdain for public play. A member verbally attacked us for driving our golf cart into the parking lot to unload after a very hot round. We apologized and explained that we had never played the course before , and we didn't know the rules, but he continued to "hammer home" that there were signs!! Hot, tired, and ready to go we missed the all important "sign." Regrettably, I will never play there again, which I hate since it is such a great course.

It's a beautiful course. Greens are in great shape, large with interesting slopes. Fairways are very generous. Bunkers are well placed. Excellent range, practice green, beer cart came around 3+ times, pace of play = 4 hrs... I enjoy this course every time, hope it never changes. Lots of fun from the back tees for better players.

If it was 30 minutes closer to Raleigh, it would be swamped constantly and probably $30-40 more expensive. Thankfully it isn't! 🥳🥳🥳

Friends and I played golf Sunday 5/31 at Belmont Golf in Rocky Mount and fairways and greens are in excellent condition. Would like to play again on
dryer fairways because due to heavy rains on Friday and Saturday golf course was saturated and no roll at all on tee shots. Didn't get a chance to try the food due to covid 19. Highly recommend and will definitely return for another round of golf.

I have a lengthy story, but I'll spare the details and let you know that Tim the general manager accommodated me way more than he probably should have. Once I paid my Greens fees, I got out on the course. It's the first week of January and of course the Bermuda is all dormant. With that being said, you should be able to see cool season weeds popping up. I made it through about 14 holes before I saw a single weed anywhere on this golf course. theth greens were absolutely some of the best I've ever put it on. If you know what dormant Bermuda is like, then you know what I'm talking about.

A great course! I am a 20 handicap, so clearly not the best golfer. But I had one of my best front 9s ever, playing from the white tees.
If you are a more accomplished player, play from the back tees and you will find plenty of challenge.
The grounds are beautiful, with several of the holes having a nice cart trip though the woods between the greens and the next tee.l was playing early and all the groundsmen I encountered were very friendly and accommodating.

Fun and beautiful course but the pace of play can be miserable! I think they can over book at times. Too us over 5 hours to play last weekend and that's ridiculous! At several times there were 6 groups waiting on one hole! Used to be my favorite course that took the fun out of it for us

One of the best courses in NC...greens are absolutely pristine (as is rest of course). A great mix of hole (doglegs, forced carrys, etc.) Par 3's are awesome and some very tough par 4's. Played last week and they were cutting and rolling the greens. Wasnt a ball mark to be found. I cant say enough good things about this course. Drove an hour from Raleigh and so worth it. Management and staff were wonderful, food was excellent and I just couldnt ask for more. Im a low single digit handicap and it gives me all I can handle from the appropriate tees.

This place is very well taken care of. Greens are excellent. They have a pleasant staff. The snack caddie that rolls around has anything you could be craving. Don't know If I would want to walk this one though unless I was in desperate need of some exercise. They are also equipped with a tasty restaurant. Driving range and pool are here also.

This course is well worth the roughly 1.2 hour drive from Raleigh . This course is maintained like it would play at $65 dollars plus on a weekday . For the $39 I paid it was an absolute steal. Greens rolled well no bare patches , fairways were flush and tight , tee boxes were tight and weed-free. Just a note , check the website for directions, GPS navigation will steer you wrong and leave you at the back of the course on a neighborhood street. Staff is extreemly courteous , and they do have a cart girl for snacks and drinks . I did not get to try the restaurant, but many good things are said about it as well.
