Updated Review:
Posting an update because I saw the facility’s response and I think it’s important for other parents to hear the full story, especially if you’re trying to decide where to spend your money.
Yes, I know these are group classes and that’s exactly the point. The issue is how poorly this program is structured for beginners. My daughter’s class is 30 minutes, but with 5 minutes of “warm-up” play and 5 minutes of tube time at the end, they only get 20 minutes of real instruction. And with 3–4 kids in every class, each child gets barely 5 minutes of actual skill practice. For us, that means nearly $34 per session for 5 minutes of real swimming, the rest is just waiting their turn.
Before posting this, I checked around. Many other swim schools structure group lessons much better: they keep class sizes smaller or ensure kids are in the water continuously, not merely sitting or standing in line waiting for their 1-minute turn to jump in. Playtime for water comfort is fine but when most of the time is spent on distractions instead of real skill building, you’re wasting your money.
Their response says that’s just how all swim schools work. It’s not. Good programs balance group size, lesson plans, and hands-on time so kids progress. Suggesting parents should switch to private lessons if they want results is just a convenient excuse group lessons should teach real skills, not just be expensive water playdates.
In our case, my daughter has been coming for several weeks and still hasn’t learned to back-float the most basic skill for her level. If you get lucky and there are only two kids, it might be worth it. Otherwise, think twice. For $34 per session, you deserve more than a few minutes of real learning.
I wish I’d read a review like this before we signed up hopefully this helps someone else make an informed choice.

We have really enjoyed our experience at British Swim School. My kids have gained so much confidence in the water and their abilities as they’ve learned and moved up while taking lessons here. I’m so thankful for what the British Swim School is teaching my kids and for the kind instructors.

I absolutely love my swim instructor, Maleigh! She’s incredibly patient and supportive, which means so much to me as I build my confidence in the water. She takes her time explaining things and always makes me feel comfortable. My only wish is that the sessions were longer—I enjoy them that much! Highly recommend Maleigh to anyone looking for a kind, encouraging, and effective instructor!

The on site Instructors are patient and care about their clients. Classes are organized and someone in addition to Instructor are overseeing the on site classes.

It should go without saying that receiving great customer service these days is like finding a needle in a haystack. Well I would love to share my needle in a haystack story and her name is Angela.
Before I go into the exceptional customer service given by Angela, I have to start by speaking to amazing customer service given by the owner, James.
James answered all of my questions is such detail and provided such peace about me starting swim class as a newbie with a fear of trying to swim. He explained how beneficial it would be to join my two year old on her swim journey to ensure my own safety in water. He provided me with so much insight on the topic that I know going with British Swim School was such a life changing decision for the best!
Angela is literally an angel on Earth. When I was in need of some assistance learning the app and needing to reschedule a class, she took the time to show me how and with so much patience. She even texted me from her personal number to make sure that if I had any tech issues in the future, I could reach out to her anytime for assistance. Not many people would do that. It was one of the kindest gestures I have experienced in the marketplace.
Angela by far is a shining example of what happens when a company hires well and hires a person who will greatly reflect the company’s brand and values. Angela surpassed my expectations as a consumer. I can promise you that if you are considering a place to learn how to swim with instructors who genuinely care and will NOT rush your learning journey, British Swim School is the top tier choice in all categories.

I had never heard of BSS when looking for a swim school for my two, but when I saw the reviews, I gave it a try. I am SO GLAD that I did! The instructors are INCREDIBLE - they do a fantastic job of finding where each individual child’s comfort level is, and then gently encouraging them to do just a little bit above it. Their patience has made my two so comfortable, and through that comfort, they have felt safe to learn and grow.

This school is everything! Mr. Victor is a wonderful teacher. He is constructive, well meaning, and encouraging. Cassie and Kayla are so good with the kids especially when they are hesitant to participate. James is a very good communicator with families, flexible, and understanding. It is a well rounded group that create positive environments for swimmers at every level and no judgement. The boys have been going for two years and plan to continue at least another year or more. Swim is a necessary life skill. Look no further, bring your kids here!

Started my babe at 9 months old and what a difference 6 months later in his abilities to swim! He can go under water without coughing, learned to hold his breath float on his back, scale the pool wall and feels comfortable in this environment. Highly recommend!

The staff is wonderful. They are very knowledgeable and caring. I see my child gain skills and confidence in her swimming abilities. I feel that she could save herself in a water situation and is able to swim without needing a life jacket.

We moved recently (Feb 2023) from Baltimore to Charlotte and we really valued the swim lessons we did with our children in Baltimore to make sure they learn life saving techniques if they were to ever fall in a pool. It was a rough start with our son (5) as he tends to struggle with new things and transitions but after about a month or 2 of going to lessons and being consistent he's leveling up super fast. Our daughter (2.5) started shortly after and is now in the same class. The teachers have been great and they've all gotten to know our names and our kids names. When we try to schedule the kids as close together time wise as we can and class schedule permits they've always gone above and beyond to accommodate. We barely use the swimmies or puddle jumper with our kids in our neighborhood pool anymore and a huge part of that is because of what this place and company teaches our children. Heck even my wife and I float better in the pool/ water after paying attention to some of their tips and tricks they've given to our kids. 10/10 company and teachers!
