Just finished up a 1-1 session with Joel. What an improvement! With just a couple pointers and things to work on, he has fixed a lot of inefficiencies in my form. I am looking forward to our next sessions.

I can only say great things about Joel. His open water swim (OWS) sessions were crucial in preparing me for my first 70.3 and gave me the confidence to hit the water on race day without fear or hesitation. On top of that, Joe is a genuinely great person. His sessions are well-structured, supportive, and absolutely worth it!

I had my first swim lesson with Joel of Carolina Multisports about a week ago. We met at an outdoor pool and Joel videoed my swimming from multiple angles. He then took time to walk through each video and help me understand where I can improve. I was amazed at how much we got done and how much I learned about my stroke. There were several things I thought I was doing well but I wasn't. Most importantly Joel has helped me take steps to improve my kick, head position, body alignment, stroke, and catch. It's not easy to unlearn bad habits and replace them with good ones. But with his instruction and use of video it became very clear to me what I need to work on to improve my swimming with much less effort. Thank you Joel!!

I am a new and aspiring triathlete. I’ve really been struggling making the transition from the pool to open water. I even had a full panic attack in the water and it was so scary. After that, I knew I needed some more structure and guidance. I attended one of Joel’s open water swim sessions, and it felt transformative! Joel was so patient and reassured me that my sense of panic in the water is normal and manageable. I’ll definitely be attending these sessions regularly!

Joel is a fantastic coach. From our first coaching session, he was able to quickly identify inefficiencies in my swim stroke, recommend drills to help me correct them, and explain everything in ways that made complete sense even to a relatively novice swimmer. I would enthusiastically recommend Joel to anyone looking for a coach.

I had Joel do a bike fit prior to my Ironman. It made a world of difference for the bike ride. He was very thorough and making sure all the measurements were exact and that I was totally comfortable on my bike.

Swimming used to stress me out. I wasn’t sure where to start to improve my technique and there’s an overwhelming amount of advice online. I signed up for Joel’s swim analysis and was so excited about how practical and actionable his advice was. It even inspired my girlfriend to sign up for the same package. And my mom too! Joel has started a movement in my family. I’m so glad I sought out his help before competing in my first triathlon and look forward to continuing to learn from him.

had a great open water session at Jordan Lake! organized, informative, even the info in the land warm up session was helpful and felt could be useful in a broader sense and not just for open water. Joel's so welcoming and has lots of great info for many levels!

I have learned so much in such a short time from Coach Joel in both biking and open water swimming. I am new to both endeavors and I feel my confidence growing each time I work with him. I appreciate his patience and his passion for teaching folks like me in addition to more experienced athletes. His focus on functional performance really makes sense to me. Highly recommend.

I joined Joel's OWS class at Jordan Lake and am so happy I did! The drop in format worked well for my crazy schedule. I really needed to work on my OWS skills and technique, and Joel provided a welcoming environment with excellent training tips and overall coaching & encouragement. He is extremely approachable and supportive. I am training for a couple triathlons and I'm confident continuing to join his OWSs will improve my confidence and technique - a key part of my training from here on out! Thank you, Joel - I am really looking forward to working with you on all things triathlon! :-)

I did a gait analysis with Joel and attended one of his coached open water swims.

The gait analysis is great for anyone who wants to geek out on running form. Joel is extremely knowledgeable about how the body works and is good at explaining it in a very understandable and relatable way. He takes video and uses tool to analyze the chain from head to foot to give a comprehensive picture of what is going well with the gait and what could be improved.

The coached open water swim provided an opportunity for swimming with buoys, water support, and coaching. Joel observed us as we swam and provided feedback on ways to improve. Again, he was very knowledgeable and able to give explanations about not only how to adjust but also why. He provided drills and coaching that helped participants who were new to open water swim to those who have been swimming for several years.

I have done 2 sessions at Jordan lake with Joel and a group of fantastic people. Joel has so much knowledge on general open water swimming but also was able to give me feedback as well as answer questions that I have. The second half of the second session I finally started to feel comfortable in open water but I was improving with each instruction of things to work on! Thank you Joel!

Joel is a solid coach! I've been using him to help me improve my running. He is very thorough and knowledgeable on how the body works and what "tweaks" to make to improve. I improved my cadence and breathing heartrate year one. This year's focus, more on the running form mechanics. He adapts your training plan based on what you need and can handle, all while challenging you a bit to achieve your goals.

Joel is a passionate and knowledgeable triathlon coach. His feedback on my swim analysis was thorough and extremely helpful. After working on my own, I decided to start attending group swim practices and it has been a beneficial decision. I highly recommend Joel for anyone looking to improve their running, swimming, or biking skills.

I started working with Joel to add swimming into my running routine, but now I have fallen in love with swimming too and I feel like a better athlete overall in my fitness as well as knowledge. Joel thinks of the whole individual from how the brain is interacting with your body to the skills itself, to your fitness. Joel will meet you where you are, whether that’s someone new to the sport or an experienced athlete.

I’ve done a few open water swim practices and bike mechanics courses with Coach Joel. He is super knowledgeable about all things triathlon. During OWS sessions, we’ve practiced breathing drills before getting into the water, crowded swim starts, sighting and staying calm in traffic. All of these skills have made swimming so much more FUN and I feel safer during races.

I had a one hour swim session with Joel and it was fantastic! We covered all of the topics that I was concerned about for race day. In the water, we practiced my drafting techniques, evaluated my sighting for both left and right breathing sides, and practiced strategies for buoy turns. I also realized that I knew very little about race starts. Joel taught me about the different types of race starts, strategies to capitalize on each type of start, and ways to to decrease anxiety about cold water (which is a big deal for me!). Joel also corrected a few misconceptions I had about nutrition prior to the race, gear that I needed for the race, and even exiting the water at the conclusion of the swim. I feel much more confident in my preparation for my swim after consulting with Joel.

My wife and I did a couple sessions with Joel (running for me, swimming for her), and they were great. I consider myself a decent runner even though I started only a few years ago (I'm occasionally competitive for age group awards in races), but I had no formal coaching. In limited amount of time, Joel taught me more about proper running technique than all of the YouTube videos, running articles, and random tips from friends over the last 2-3 years of running. I can already tell I'm running more efficiently by using a couple "tricks" from Joel to increase my cadence and improve my foot strike. I am looking forward to incorporating more of the things I learned from his coaching and going back for more sessions. My wife also found the swimming coaching very helpful and feels like she is more prepared for her upcoming open water races.
