My family did a private dance class at DANCECLUB Asheville as part of a weekend birthday celebration for our parents – it was a hiphop class taught by Ashlyn – and we had THE BEST time!! Found this place while planning a bachelorette trip to Asheville! Our instructor was Lindsay and she was absolutely amazing. We booked for the 90 minute pole class and were late due to traffic on the highway! She was nice and understanding and still let us stay extra to make up for the time. The routine we learned was super flirty, fun, and a nice workout. She even performed a routine of her own at the end for us! I took about 4 months of classes in early 2022 (Beginner and Beginner I) with Ash. I had to stop due to scheduling but I loved Ash as an instructor, she was great at explaining moves and breaking it down in a very understandable way (those were the first dance classes of my life!)
Cut to a few weeks ago when I invited some of my Beer City cross fit friends to join a class, which for all of them, was now their first time taking a dance class.
They LOVED it! Ash was also our instructor (yay, good to see you again!) and she guided us throw a fun routine. Hoping to make it in again soon!

I started taking classes here in 2021. I took classes about once a week for a year and really enjoyed the variety of different classes and the paces of the series that you can take. Also, the atmosphere is just great. This is a studio which is really inclusive of all bodies, gender identities, and ages. You can come here at any skill level and have a great time as long as you have a positive attitude!
I took a year off from coming to classes in 2022 when life got a little busy, but about 2 months ago I started taking classes again. Which brings me to the event that prompted me to write this review- tonight I took a class on a different day of the week than I have been for the past two months and as a result I ran into the studio owner for the first time in about 15 months. I was really surprised and frankly honored that she remembered me after so long when she has so many students AND she made a point to come over and say hi and catch up. I think that just that gesture says so much about the community she has created at this studio. Besides being incredibly talented and clearly passionate about dancing, you can tell that all the teachers here are talented at and passionate about making other people feel welcome and confident. This is a really special place and I am just so happy I found it!

We went as a group of 17 for a bachelorette party and had an AMAZING time! I didn't think I'd enjoy it at first when the plans were made (I'm definitely not fit enough and was extremely worried about whether I would be able to participate or not) but Shauna made it so easy to follow along. She's just sweet and patient, and has such a great energy and positive vibe! She also made sure it was a safe space for us all and a judgement free zone. Shawna was SO helpful in planning and added loads of fun touches like bubbly, personalized performance names, and music selection. Despite having 0 background in dance, I allowed my friend to persuade me to try a pole class here in March and I have been HOOKED on coming ever since. DCA employs the sweetest crew of uplifting teachers who really care about getting to know their students and helping them grow. EDITED May2021: Just started my SECOND 16-week Fast Track Program with Kathleen! 1-on-1 sessions 3 times per week for 16 weeks, focusing on my specific goals and needs. I did it last summer and it was a game changer so I'm planning to make it an annual thing. We make so much progress very quickly with the focused and individual attention on my personal goals. She's helped me master more difficult tricks as well nailing the finer details of form and style that bring my dancing to the next level.

ORIGINAL REVIEW 2017: Dance Club has been truly life changing. I tried a class thinking it might be a good way to exercise that I could actually stick to. Boy was it ever. I was hooked right away. More than a year later and I'm still a regular, going 2-3 times per week. I've never stuck with a gym membership or any exercise routine for more than a couple of months.

Beyond just the fitness, Dance Club is FUN! Classes are always a unique challenge, and Kathleen does a great job of breaking things down and helping each of us to not only learn cool dance moves but to find our own unique style and strengths.

Dance Club has become a community of friends who encourage and support each other. I can't imagine ever leaving this community.

The Fast Track Pole Program with Kathleen is one of the best decisions I made for myself in the past year. What you can expect from this program is consistency, support, joy, struggle and growth.

I had the benefit of doing two back-to-back sessions of Fast Track, and definitely have seen myself build skills that I imagine would take me much longer to develop if I had just been coming to the studio classes. With the ability to really ask questions, problem solve, cheer each other on, and come back to skills to work on, I have seen myself get tricks that eluded me, see growth in strength and endurance, and more deeply connect with the art form and the fabulous humans that practice it.

Kathleen is supportive, and WILL challenge you. There are lots of times when my body shape or flexibility make moves seem impossible for me – and often they are at that time - but she will take time to investigate what might work for my body that day. She is great about keeping track of the skills we are learning and helping get more nuanced movement out of flow and tricks.

To have a small group where we could express, celebrate, learn and move together is something I am so SO grateful to have experienced. It allowed me to take class when I normally wouldn’t be able to because of my schedule. I would sign up again tomorrow.

The Fast Track pole program has honestly been one of the best parts of my entire year! Having consistent training in my busy schedule has been game changing for my pole progress and happiness. I visited DanceClub Asheville for a pole dancing class for my sister’s bachelorette this past weekend and what an amazing experience it was! Kathleen was so fun and personable and made sure our group had the best time - even included some bubbly with our package which is always a plus.

Her class was very beginner friendly while also teaching alternative ways to do certain moves to enhance the routine if comfortable doing so. We had men/women in the class. Many from our group were very nervous at first but were actually so surprised at how much they enjoyed it and how much they loved Kathleen and the studio. It was also QUITE the workout. I started pole here over 3 years ago and have enjoyed every minute. During that time, I’ve made friends, competed, performed for strangers, shed some inhibitions, and lost some clumsiness I thought was mine forever. I can do splits now, and have greater flexibility than when I was in my 20s (I’m in my 50s now). I love this place so much.

2017 -
I took a class at danceclub with a friend last year as a lark, kind of a bucket list thing for her. Here I am, more than a year later, still taking classes. At 50, there are some moves I’ll probably never be able to do and if one person is out of step, it’s me. And that’s ok. Kathleen has built a welcoming environment and encourages us all to keep playing and improving, whatever the skill level. I love this place and the folks I’ve met here.

Edited to make current - sooo, last year, I did a student show and also competed in Atlanta. In pole! It was such a rush, so much fun. Here I am at 52, still poling at Danceclub, still learning, and still having more fun than I thought possible. I can hang upside down, climb, all kinds of crazy circus tricks. I love my Danceclub family, and would recommend it to anyone interested in learning to pole dance, belly dance, chair/heel dance, etc. or even just feel sexier AND stronger. I'm a plus sized dancer, and I still feel like I can be part of the group. They also work hard to provide modifications if my body is not ready to do certain moves. It works great with my after work schedule, and they offer at least 1 class every day of the week, so no excuses not to go! If you are brand new there is a drop in intro class on Saturday, or I would recommend signing up for an intro to pole class series. It is a good way to get an introduction and learn more about Danceclub.

Danceclub Asheville is an amazing studio with a wide variety of classes, including​ pole, hip-hop, twerk, belly dancing, sexy chair dance, and more. I have been taking pole classes here for about 5 months now and couldn't be happier with my experience. For pole classes, they have a curriculum you can follow, so if you are brand new to pole dancing like I was, you start with 'intro to pole', then move on to 'beginner one', then 'beginner two', and so on. The curriculum classes are taken once a week and you continue through each of the levels with the same group you started with, making this a great way to get to know people in the community, in addition to learning how to pole dance.
In addition to the curriculum classes, you can take specialty​ classes such as beginner pole tricks, beginner spinning pole, beginner pole flow, beginner poleography, floor play, and the list goes on. There are options for intermediate and advanced dancers, too, but I'm a beginner and haven't tried those.
The instructors are great at accommodating​ people of all fitness levels and will make sure no one​ gets left behind in class. There is no reason to be intimidated because everyone is super warm, welcoming, and non-judgemental. I highly recommended checking Danceclub Asheville out!

What would my life be without Danceclub?? I walk thru these doors at least 4 days a week, and my life is so much better for it. The environment Kathleen and her teachers have cultivated here is incredible. I love coming to class and always leave feeling happier than when I arrived! The facility itself is awesome--the poles are in great condition and the sound system is always bumping. If you're hesitant about taking a pole class--don't be! My friends and I booked a private pole dancing class with Kathleen for my bachelorette party. We had a BLAST! Kathleen was so kind and made us real right at home. I booked a pole dancing class for my friend's bachelorette party here and we had such an amazing time! Kathleen was fantastic and may have actually taught this group of nerdy engineers how to twerk and slide gracefully down a pole!! Our group of 10 took a class from Kathleen while on a bachelorette trip. She was very accommodating and made us feel comfortable from the start! The moves were challenging, but not too difficult. She also had just the right amount of communication prior to the class with reminders about timing and payment.

In November our group had surprised the birthday girl celebrating her 70th birthday with a private burlesque lesson. Oh what fun! Kathleen did a fabulous job teaching and made everyone feel very comfortable. We all laughed and had wonderful time. The birthday girl and myself had so much fun that we attended the Christmas striptease workshop for my birthday! Kathleen choreographed our first dance remotely as we live in Australia. She listened to our ideas and brief and created a dance that exceeded our expectations. Look no further--you have found your home away from home. In fact, it's better than home because it has lots of poles and badass ladies and one of the best teachers in the biz. Dance has always been very important to me, and I have been doing it most of my life. I will tell you this--I have NEVER found a studio where the women were so supportive of each other, celebrated each other's victories so joyously, and encouraged each other so genuinely in their struggles. If you come check it out, you will see.
I will also say that Kathleen is one of the best teachers you will find. She is insanely talented, hilarious, and her #1 goal is to make sure you have FUN. Don't we all need that?? She has an unbelievable knack for breaking things down and explaining them in ways that help people pick things up quickly and easily.

I had a weekend in Asheville booked for a friend's bachelorette party. We had a group of 16 girls and were looking for something fun and festive to do but we were having a hard time finding a place that could accommodate our large group. I stumbled across Danceclub Asheville and sent an e-mail on a weeknight and got a call back from Kathleen within a few hours. I was able to book that night. The prices are very affordable especially considering what you get. We had a 90 minute class. There was plenty of champagne and chocolate to share with our big group and we love our champagne. We started the class with getting blinged out with glitter and "diamonds" and picking our burlesque name. It was a very cute way to break the ice. Then we learned a fun, sexy and flirty routine. She put up with our inability to keep a straight face and our silliness. The class was so much fun!! The location is VERY close to downtown Asheville but not IN downtown Asheville so parking was not a problem. I would definitely recommend booking a class with Kathleen. All 16 of us really enjoyed the day.
