Lily was fantastic teaching my 7-year old the techniques for biking the different courses. She couldn’t have made it more fun.

We visited from Charleston for an afternoon with our kids. The check-in staff was very friendly and explained everything in detail. Two of us went climbing and even though our daughter was scared at first she climbed for 2 hours. Our son, 4 years old, went mountain biking and had the best time! Lilly helped us get the right gear and explained the different tracks and rules and then he was off! In short: great facility, really friendly staff! We will be back!

New ownership is horrible. Like who is closed on SATURDAYS. Definitely the worst day to be closed. The coffee shop is way over priced with 20$ smoothies. The bike tracks are in horrible shape and it’s taking them way too long to rebuild them. The people who run this place are jokes.

Hunter in the bike section is the kindest human. He spent time with my son on his first ride, giving him instructions and helping him build confidence, all without us asking him to. These are the kind of people you want to keep in your business. They've got the skills you can't teach. Give this guy a raise! Sincerely, mom of a boy who discovered a new passion for bikes!

Where do I start? I really wanted to give them a chance and the benefit of the doubt after hearing the rumors online and well I was wrong… and the rumors true. This place as long as run by the new owners will never be the same. The culture is gone, the stoke has left the building and don’t you dare showing your belly button or the staff will LITERALLY ask you to put on a shirt!! Now don’t even get me started on the hours, close at 5pm on Friday and all day Saturday, unheard of. They play it as if they are doing us a favor so we can spend more time “outdoors” and with our family but it’s simply not true and we all know why. So anyway, needless to say I canceled my membership and started a new one at Cultivate.

This gym is great. It’s easily one of the best gyms I’ve ever climbed at. The routes are fun, creative, and challenging. The facility is spacious and super clean. And the staff were friendly and helpful; they made us feel welcome immediately, and got us set up with day passes and on the wall in a snap. If I lived here, Fiddlehead would be my home gym for sure.

UPDATE: Fiddlehead offers a great place to climb, but its value is being undermined by increasingly inconvenient hours. The recent decision to close at 5 p.m. on Fridays—in addition to being closed all day Saturday—makes it very difficult for working families to use the facility.

This was especially evident last Sunday when we arrived at 10:30 a.m. and found the gym closed. The reason provided was a "Community Day" from 12-6 p.m., but it's unclear why the gym couldn't have maintained its normal morning hours for members. We were not alone; many other members were in the parking lot, scratching their heads, equally disappointed.

Considering we pay over $165 a month for our family membership, the limited access is hard to justify. We urge management to reconsider the schedule to better serve its paying members.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: We have mixed feelings about Fiddlehead, so I'll share my honest opinion here. As The Riveter, this place was 5/5. Fantastic community, amazing staff, great instructors for the youth teams my daughter was part of. We had no issue driving nearly an hour round trip several times a week from Brevard.

Of course, we're not happy with the way the re-opening went down. But The Riveter (and being able to climb at a world-class facility) is one of the reasons we moved to the area, so I'm not going to "boycott" and cut off my nose to spite my face.

Fiddlehead has essentially replaced all Riveter branding with Fiddlehead branding throughout the facility. The bouldering routes (our primary climbing) are good, but they have not been reset at all in the two-months since the re-opening (The Riveter used to reset sections about every two weeks to keep things fresh).

I'm disappointed they're replacing the "bar" with a "coffee bar" - which is still not open. I enjoyed having the option to grab a beer while my daughter was doing comp team in the evenings. It's not a dealbreaker, but it's unfortunate.

They improved the fitness training area and added another Kilter board. I view these as the only positive changes / improvements over The Riveter.

Being closed on Saturday is just silly, and not having early member hours sucks, too. We used to go early mornings on the weekends and it was completely quiet. Now, they are closed on Saturday and don't open until 11am on Sunday.

I can't put a finger on it, but the whole vibe is off. The staff are way less friendly and personable than before. They removed a lot of the art from the walls (why?) so the gym feels way more sterile and unwelcoming. We used to go to The Riveter for the community and to climb. Now, we go to Fiddlehead purely to climb. The community is gone.

I've been going to this gym since it was the riveter and I've really appreciated a majority of the changes fiddlehead has made to improve the rock gym itself.

The setting is the best you will find in the area from Frank, Josh and team, and they're constantly changing up the sets and putting variety in grades. They actually care about what they're putting up and look for feedback.

I really couldn't recommend going here enough. I think they're doing a great job getting this place back on its feet after what happened last fall and anyone who's actually been here would agree.

Any negative review you read is likely a smeer campaign from a small group of people who are upset that it changed hands after Helene.

Keep up the good work!

Edit: oh and Gordon is a legend for real.

Our family just started going to Fiddlehead recently and we love it! The staff members are friendly and competent. Our 8 year old son and his friends who came with us are complete beginners at climbing and they absolutely loved it. The other people who are more regular clients were also so kind and encouraging towards the boys and helped them finish going to the top. They also had a blast on the bike courses! We spent 5 hours there easily and my son wanted to climb more after biking. I appreciate how clean the facilities are, the yummy smoothies and other healthy food options they have from the Hendersonville co-op. We enjoyed it so much we purchased the monthly membership. Highly recommend this place for a fun, family friendly way to stay active in a positive environment.

I am not a staff member or anyway associated with Fiddlehead. Just offering my 2 cents here as a member.

IMHO the staff has always been super friendly and supportive towards me. Over time, some of them have become my personal friends. So, I salute to the staff and owners who have been going out of their way to make this club exceptional.

In addition, the new ownership has gone to extremes making huge improvements to the facility beyond what is was when operated under Riveter. This took a huge financial and time investment. I don't climb so I can't comment on the climbing upgrades and new flooring. But the gym was updated with new equipment and they just hired a new trainer. And the all new improvements to the dirt jumps including a total rework of the outside lines making them 4 season capable, is worth checking out. Again, all these upgrades took a huge financial commitment, adding value to clients like me who use it.

I liked the club when it used to be called Riveter. I like this club even more, now that it is under new ownership committed to making it better. So, I don't get the negative reviews here. People generally don't like change and I think that is part of the reason. To those who walked away, I suggest giving it another look.

Facility is very nice but it makes absolutely no sense to have a place like this and have it closed on saturdays…..the one day families are usually free to spend the day together. Our family had a membership but cancelled because of this.

Our kids' favorite place in the area. Love the camp options and newly added after-school bike camp and bike development team. We have always felt welcome and appreciate the community of families we often see here. Free wifi is a huge value to work while the kids ride. The bike staff are always super attentive to all the riders, in particular any kiddos that take a dive. Its great to see the experienced older kids and adults who ride and set examples and are so encouraging to the younger kids.

Very grateful to have a gym like Fiddlehead to climb at. They switch up the routes often which has kept the climbing here both fun and challenging. After missing this for 5 months post-Helene (which took a serious toll on my mental health), I certainly had nothing but relief and gratitude for their reopening.

Friendly welcome from desk staff, Climbing gym staff seemed like genuinely down to earth and nice people. Routes were fun and plenty of variety for a few hours of solid climbs. My kids loved the slide and root beer floats from the cafe. Restrooms are clean and plenty of space to shower/change etc if needed. All in all I’d get a membership in a heart beat if I lived closer, nice vibe and I didn’t feel as if it were stuffy or ultra conservative like some of the rumors I’ve been hearing in the climbing community. Give them a chance, awesome pump track and climbing for all ages

The staff here are incredibly friendly and helpful! Lily and Hunter were incredibly kind and helpful in fixing my sons bike. They gladly fixed it—even though it wasn’t a bike we rented from them. Finally decided to give fiddle head a try despite it being a bit of a drive for us. On the day we wanted to go it happened to be community day, with free admission. Yippee right? WRONG, no where on their social media nor when we first came in were we informed that they aren’t doing lead or TOP ROPE testing (mind you there was an abundance of staff members). What a waste of our time. Extremely disappointed.

I have always loved the rock climbing gym, super friendly people. But the coffee bar was a little bit of a let down. Barista wasn't the friendliest and i honestly felt like I was robbed of $8. The matcha was over powered by the oat milk, which made it lose the complete taste of oat milk. Just had better hopes, especially for the price. Probably won't be going back.

Long time Riveter and now FiddleHead member. All the noise and negative reviews need to be balanced. The place is still world class. They have more work to do outside but they’re getting after it, I can’t wait to ride it once it’s done. The outdoor green line is open and it’s already way better than it used to be. The covered bike area is fun that it’s all reconfigured and new, the black line in particular is super fun and less consequential than it used to be. Still big jumps, but more friendly. You can case them and not wreck yourself. The bike staff are true bikers and have helped me and my kids out just about every time we go, which is weekly. Shout out to Hunter in particular, he’s the man.

Now the indoor climbing…it’s still as sick as ever! The climbing gym is now way more family friendly than it used to be when it was the Riv. I feel much more comfortable bringing my young kids in there.

The prices are also now way better and more affordable for a family than they used to be, which is awesome. My one complaint would be I wish it was open on Saturdays.

Thanks to the owners for getting this place back up and running. It was clearly a monumental effort.

I will never be going back and supporting a business that has a manager "Kaelyn" who could be so racist. Being someone of Color and not having my first language being English. The judgement I felt during our entire conversation was unsettling. My friend spoke to me in French and her comment saying "I dont understand spanish" OH and with an eye roll. I hope her attitude towards human beings can get better. Maybe some classes on how racism is bad or on equality. Disgraceful. Don't go here if your not a perfect white American.

Idk. I feel like the same people giving FH 1 star reviews are the same people boycotting Asheville Yards because there was a change in ownership. Things change. Get over yourselves. As far as the “bar” goes you have one of the best breweries in the country next door. But I’m deducting 1 star for not being open on Saturdays because that’s just dumb as hell.

It's a climbing gym with an outdoor MTB track covered and a downhill section with jumps. They have invested in the weights area, which was a big problem I had before. They extended the area and added more racks. They added another board and got rid of the bar. There is a cafe in its place. It's been great.

As a former member of Riveter, I was a little hesitant to sign up for Fiddlehead after seeing some of the reviews online. But after climbing at Fiddlehead numerous times over the last couple of months, I felt compelled to leave a review. In my personal opinion, the new management improved the space itself.

My review is based solely on my experience of the climbing gym- including the lobby, cafe, and interactions with the staff. I’m not commenting on whether or not they should be hosting more community based events, remain opened on Saturdays, allow crop tops, etc. Those are personal preferences and will not be included in this review.

Each staff member I have met and interacted with has been extremely helpful and friendly. The space itself is clean and inviting. The bathrooms are stocked with feminine hygiene products and are always clean. They added saunas to each of the locker rooms. They expanded the gym area, which offers tons of weights, functional equipment, a rowing machine, pelotons, and more. It’s also beautiful and has ultra high ceilings, natural lighting, and picturesque views of the mountains in the distance. The coffee bar offers locally baked treats from the Hendersonville co op. Most importantly, the auto belays are reliable and very convenient for climbing solo.

I would recommend fiddlehead to anyone looking for a climbing gym.

A bad experience compared to the riveter because…

1. Most of the staff is sour and unpleasant to the climbers

2. What kind of business doesn’t advertise their phone number online? I had to look at my friends belay tag to even find a phone number and they missed every single one of my calls during normal business hours, haven’t attempted to call me back, and don’t have a voicemail. I have no way of contacting them besides going in person.

3. The number of guest passes per month has dropped to 1 as compared to the riveter which essentially removes $20 a month in value from the membership even though that is the same price as the riveter was.

I support people’s rights to subscribe to any religion they choose as long as it isn’t harmful to others. That being said, the new management is completely out of touch with the community that made the Riveter great. In the wake of Helene, the new management’s decisions to ostracize certain members of the community, close their doors on weekends, and rebrand this business into a soulless relic of what it once was, is incredibly tone deaf. Private businesses have the right to operate how they choose but a climbing gym is essentially a community center and the new management obviously doesn’t understand the responsibility they decided to assume.

Cheaper than the Riveter was ( My climb only membership cost $75 a month back then). I was able to get in with the $70 membership for myself. As they are starting again from scratch and getting resistance from previous entities, some things were slow to transition, like this Google page. I love climbing and bouldering here 3 times a week and have even tried the bike track( which I have u limited access to now). Also there are saunas in each rest/ locker room now. It’s a great value for local residents that want to exercise and I’m sure more community opportunities will come as well. Also, the coffee shop opens in two weeks!

I received a marketing email and then verified it on their website that stated that 4 years old and under are free (no conditions, since I wrote this review they have changed the promotion). I went the first time and they charged my 4 year old full entry at a time when the kids area was still closed. When I left an assistant at the front desk said we should have been given free entry. I had been checked in by Justin Rhodes who made no mentioned or ask of my sons age. I happily paid the first time. I went back today with a friend and his son. His 4 year old son was checked in with no charge. I was at another register again with Justin Rhodes. He could see in his computer my sons age and he again rang us up for $20. This time I pointed out the sign next to the card machine that says kids 4 and under free. I also mentioned the email I received from Fiddlehead that said 4 and under free. Justin looked me right in the face and said "How am I supposed to make and money if I let him in for free, you're not climbing." When caring for a 4 year old at a gym, your are a chaperone not a climber. I said my friends four year old who I invited here was just let in for free and his dad is not climbing. I said that is bait and switch, I had driven 40 minutes from North Asheville. When I expressed my shock at his attitude he told me I needed to leave the property. My son then started crying hysterically because his friend had entered and he had sat in the car with excitement to use the slide area for the long drive from Asheville. On principal I could not give business to anyone who employs a manager like Justin. I do commend Justin for pointing out the owners and telling me to bring my complaints them. One of the owners tried to ask how to make it right but I was too upset to go back in. I have to believe the arrogance and completely lack of customer understanding must be what the owners want from the people at their front desk. Lying to your customers and berating them when they ask for your promotion is not acceptable. They changed the wording on their website as of today after our issue with them. I will wait 100 years to go back to the loving and inclusive community of Cultivate before I ever set foot in this facility.

Let me preface this by saying we loved the Riveter. Truly. We are so sad that the hurricane took it from us as it was. With that said, hurricanes shift more than the landscape. They shift businesses and the Fiddlehead is no exception to that. This place was largely destroyed by the storm. It is open now which took a lot of work. Our kiddo is back riding and I haven't seen that smile in months! The indoor track is completely redesigned which is a great opp for him to keep learning. Hes SO happy to be back! The new pricing is less than before and includes a membership to the facility...so you can bike only or bike and climb. There seems to be a special into early April to lock in at a specific price for both which is great for our kid bc he likes both. There are plans to have an outdoor track again as well as a second track perhaps for general fitness. There are sauna now in each restroom and a gym in the climbing srea. The climbing looks the same except there is a new training wall that seems very specific with smaller holes. I'm not a climber but it seems to be a plus for more specific climbing training. The juice and coffee bar will open within a month....so bring water and snacks meanwhile. There is seating indoors and 2 big tables for parents who need to work when their kids are riding etc. I spoke directly with the owners about all the noise online. They didn't say a bad thing about anyone and said everyone is welcome here. I'm not sure how being closed on Saturdays will impact their business, but it is their biz and their decision. I imagine as they ramp up with all the costs associated with reopening that they'll expand other non Saturday hours with more staff. Change is hard...esp on the heels of a hurricane. I'm grateful that this place is open and hope people will remember why we come here...for climbing and biking...and that's what we we are seeing... lots of smiles and gratitude.
