Facility is clean and staff is friendly. HUGE ISSUE for me is the HVAC is not allowed to be controlled by employees in order to adjust for the members comfort. This causes the heat to blow on you while your in the middle of a group fitness class which is MISERABLE and the workout quality suffers greatly! It's sad when the company won't trust their employees enough to unlock the thermostat. If you join this club take this into consideration as it ends up being a bigger issue then you think it will be.

The gym isn't bad. I did the 7 day free trial right before the pandemic started so I didn't end up joining, but during the whole 7 day trial I probably received in excess of 20 calls, texts, and emails combined. It's now 9 months later and I still occasionally get called, emailed, and texted. I've asked more than a dozen times for them to stop calling and texting, and pretty sure I've unsubscribed more than twice but still get emails. I've blocked 3 different numbers. This place is like the crazy girl/guy that stalks you after you went out on 1 date.

Update and response to Owners response below: Over a year later and I am still receiving texts. I just keep blocking each number.

$10 per month attracts all segment of folks and to be honest, the anti-social elements too. Sharing my recent experience related to asking a guy about how many more sets he had left after I waited for him to get off phone which he was using while sitting on the equipment. He got angry and did answer me (2 sets more) but then took 16 more mins to finish them, watched youtube, took water breaks and just sat on the equipment whistling.
The sad part is that the gym instructor was right there working out with us, listening and watching the conversation but didn't intervene.
I am a member since 2014 and would continue to be a member but very sad to see this sorry state of the gym especially when these gym instructors can easily fix the issues like people throwing weights, just sitting on the equipment staring at the phone, blocking multiple machines at the same time, making grunting noises etc etc.
May be Increase the fee a little that might bring the quality folks back who really wanted to work out in peaceful environment.

Great, affordable gym located in Cary! I joined primarily for the group Les Mills classes (Body Pump, Body Combat, etc.), and the instructors make it fun, positive, and keep the energy intensity up! I always get a great workout! The people at the front desk are always friendly and welcoming as well. Love this gym!

You get a lot for the price! I live by planet fitness and I constantly see people there I know while I’m working out so wanted to try another gym. Found this place and is my absolute fav! Has all the equipment I need and they have this amazing green room if you want to keep to yourself. Everyone there is focused on themselves and you don’t feel judged. I will say they do have some old equipment or odd numbers of dumbbells but it’s still really great for the price. Highly recommend if you are looking for something cheap and are okay with using older equipment/ a “not super fancy” gym!

Cancelled my six year membership today because this gym's employees will not require its members to wear their mask during their workout. When I brought it to their attention that there was a city mandate requiring masks indoors, their manager told me that they were told by corporate not to police mask-wearing. He said Fitness Connection was a private company and didn't have to abide by the mandate. Really?! I then referenced their sign on the front door that says "All members must wear masks upon entry." The manager responded with "Yes, upon entry...get it!" I've now learned other NC locations have this same mindset. Fitness Connection- you are part of the problem instead of the solution. Shame on you!

Wake County and Garner has an indoor mask mandate in effect. Fitness Connection makes every attempt to enforce it. There were numerous people in the club when I went this week. All were masked. I talked to the General Manager who explained to me that they male every attempt to ensure that their members follow the mandates. I visited other gyms in and around the area who did not make that attempt.

I prefer to conduct business at places that makes every attempt to follow our municipal mandates and to keep their members safe and healthy like Fitness Connection. In addition their equipment is well kept and the facility is clean

My highest kudos to them. Five Stars. They earned it.

Scam!! I called to cancel my gym membership 3 months ago and the guy said he cancelled it but he didn't! Looked on my account today for the first time in a while and they have been charging me still. I called again to cancel and they hung up!!! I will be there to talk to management because that is un acceptable! I'm glad I left for another gym because Fitness connection are a bunch of thieves! DO NOT GET A MEMBERSHIP HERE

UPDATE: I canceled my membership more than 3 times and someone keeps saying we cant do it in person but online or call. I've called, first time i called and said I wanted to cancel and they put me on hold for 30 minutes until I hung up. Mind you I work out there and the front office people do nothing but stay on their phones so I know they aren't busy.. SO the second time I tried to cancel it but I was there working out but I called. They said they would cancel it and I believed them. Checked my statements and you guys BILLED me 3 more times. I went the front the front office and they said they could only cancel it on their website. I left mad and now I'm messaging you hoping you guys fix this.

Worst gym in triangle, don't come here. They continually harass you while doing cardio if your nose is even slightly exposed, even when no one is within 20 feet of you. The CDC and NC governor orders does NOT recommend wearing a mask during strenuous exercise. In addition, I have a medical condition and have been vaccinated. It makes no sense to come over, lower your mask, be within 6 feet of me and then tell me to wear a mask.

I waited on hold for 1.5 hours to cancel my account for the second time. I canceled my account at the beginning of March 2020 over the phone. When cancelling for the second time they said since I didn't have proof of cancellation there was nothing they could do as far as a refund. I never received confirmation and I haven't stepped foot in the gym since the end of January when covid-19 became a pandemic. All of this to say, their forgiveness policy during a pandemic and hardship could be far better.

This was a fine gym to go but I cancelled my membership back in March at the onset of covid. I can’t find the confirmation email and when gyms reopened in the state I started getting billed again but couldn’t login to my account. I had to pay for three months worth of membership in October, November, and December. I’m really annoyed they couldn’t take off these charges after having been a loyal member for several years during an economic crisis.

Originally gave fitness connection 5 stars 2 years ago...see below. However, I canceled my family membership (4 people) by sending a letter to corporate in June 2020 due to COVID and me being in an at risk group. When COVID lifted and FC opened, FC hit me with charges for all four family members ($40.00) and I was informed nothing they can do about it. To make matters worse, Cary store rep (nice person) informed me that I will be charged another $40 in November. They said I could use through November but I don't wish to be a member of COVID so guess I'm out 80.

I have been a Fitness Connection Cary member for over 5 years. I just cancelled my membership due to a financial dispute with them. Note how many reviews cite their financial practices as an issue. In this matter, the customer is NEVER right. If you join, watch your wallet. They did not process a "freeze" on my personal training" properly. This was submitted within their time limits which they adhere to absolutely. This cost me $520 which I have tried through every channel to get refunded. They have simply refused. This was an error on their staffs' part but they refuse to take responsibility. It is an inexpensive gym with adequate equipment but, it is not inexpensive in the long run if you are overcharged and told, "too bad for you." You will note this issue repeatedly described in the reviews. I might add, that over these years, cleanliness has always been an issue. They have even acknowledged that and changed cleaning services and cleaning staff over the years but it has not improved. Ventilation has also been an issue. During this period of Covid, one might also give that consideration and find a gym that might be more meticulous in its cleaning. Most importantly, it is their non professional poor customer service that you should avoid.

I used to be a regular at the locations in Greenville, Raleigh, and Cary. The gyms are fine, although, when I moved and needed to switch gyms, they made it almost impossible for me to get away. After filling out and submitting a form to end my membership, I unknowingly was charged for another 6-months. After telling management about the mistake they refused to refund me and continued to charge me monthly until I payed the accrued balance. They showed no sympathy to the incident and I have talked to numerous others who all experienced the same issues. I would never recommend this gym to a friend nor a complete stranger.

It’s Weird to me, how there could be any bad reviews on here. I’ve had an amazing experience joining this gym and getting to meet there great staff. From the front desk Laurenza, Hannah, Martin, and Chris to the assistant manager Will Casseus and Megan to his side. Will is a long story himself, but to summarize it. He walked me through the whole fitness life style from Calisthenics, Weight lifting, to cross fit, and dealt with my questions for a whole 2 months every day. Hahaha he also convinced seven of my friends to join the gym as well; which made me very happy For my friends to experience what I was. Will would go over each equipment in points of how to use it in the correct form and for which days to use it on. The gym it’s self is very big from the inside, although it might not look like it. It is not very crowded, and the people are very friendly to the point that I was telling myself sitting on my couch watching Netflix after a good workout this morning why not write them a review; they deserve that at least🌷

The place is great and the price is right for a gym. I just had a bad experience with the personal training side it is a big scam I was told a different story about payment by Megan Pfau and my bank account was screwed up because of her. I tried calling her numerous times and I have not heard from her. So I canceled my membership on Wednesday after signing Up on Monday the same week that all this happened I paid the $99.00 up front for the 8wk promotion they we’re having and the 390.00 that I was told that was going to come out on the 15th. I know I will not get the money back after sign up 3days. I’m just very upset with the people that work on the personal training side just be careful when you sign up with them think before you commit to with them.

The gym is decent enough but they make it extremely difficult to cancel your membership. Scroll down and look at the bad reviews, they are all about cleanliness and how hard it is to cancel. Then I was told you can cancel over the phone, which is also incorrect. I recommend going literally anywhere else.

I had monitored the website prices for a couple of months as I considered gifting a membership to my husband for Christmas: same 2 deals ($10/mo w/ $79 enrollment + $49 annual; or, $20/mo w/ $0 enrollment + $49). I called and was transferred to an "FC" to inquire about any upcoming holiday specials, and he said 'no' and confirmed the same 2 deals. I went in the next day, met with Thomas Sanders (GM), who showed me the new pricing that had just gone into effect, which basically increased the bottom line of their least expensive option, and added a 3rd option. They are in business to make a profit, I get it. However, there's the customer service aspect... I explained to Thomas that I'd just spoken to someone the night before who said nothing about the new pricing going into effect, and that I'd come prepared to purchase the $10/mo plan w/ $79 enrollment plan. He chose not to honor the pricing mentioned the day before, and I chose not to do business with them based on his handling of that situation. That's poor customer service, Thomas.

I was a member of the Raleigh location (loved it) and canceled my membership in November because of a sever asthma attack that left me in the hospital for a week and unable to work out for months. I reactivated my membership at the Cary location in April and it was just fine in the beginning.
With a new membership you get a free workout with a trainer, and then they try to sell you this personal trainer for a year. I've been between jobs and I cannot justify $200 a month in gym fees while I'm trying to get back on my feet. I explained this to Jason who understood but then got his boss to try to see if they could do anything to help me.
Mike was terrible. He raised his voice at me and tried to guilt trip me into buying their personal training sessions. He told me that I've gained too much weight in the months since my asthma attack and I could not lose the weight and keep it off without their help. He told me that my boyfriend is lazy because he decides to work out at home. He said I have no reason not to buy their program and to stop making excuses. He put me on the spot telling me to call my boyfriend to ask if it's okay that I buy their ridiculous program saying I should do it anyways and tell him to be supportive (anyone in a long-term relationship knows this is not how a relationship works). He then continued to tell me that they would process my card for a down payment anyways and I could cancel if I wanted. All while saying "what we will do," never asking permission. He laughed at my financial situation and told me to stop pitying myself about a job that this is more important.
Mike put me on the spot and harassed me and berated me until finally I lied and said I would come back with my final answer just to get out of there. I canceled my membership with Fitness Connection that same day, all because of him. I love going to the gym I loved the Raleigh location but with my work schedule it was not realistic to go out of my way to go there. I would feel uncomfortable going back and seeing this guy and hoping he won't say anything to me.
I contacted customer service by phone and email, fully detailing what happened with no response at all. The customer service is terrible and I understand these are salesmen but that is not at all how you go about business and sales; offending customers, their illnesses, and their family members.
Their facility is generally pretty clean and I've never had any problems with the machines. Just keep in mind the customer service is terrible and all they care about is their money. When I cancelled my membership in November I needed a doctor's note to cancel and was still charged for two months after my cancelation. Just beware, I am looking for a new gym and I'd just steer clear to stay away from any headaches and offensive general managers.

Everything about this company is awful and I hate that I am contracted to spend money here for the year. They are scammers and all they do is give me anxiety. They transferred me to another gym without my permission and it is such a difficult process then it needed to be. I never thought I’d hate so many staff members and the experience but I do. It’s to beyond difficult to be a member here

I’ve been going to this location for 2 years. The gym classes are awesome and instructors are encouraging. The staff that run it are pushy and at times down right grumpy. I get asked if I want to win money, free t-shirt, spin a wheel of prizes but I have to give up 5 friends’ emails to enter the contest. I’m not sacrificing my friends for them to meet their quota. Stop asking....

I walked into the gym and presented my Id as well as the 5 day pass because I had just moved back to the area. I go in and I get told I’m going to have to wait to speak with a manager about it because my address isn’t from here even though it’s a Wendell address why would someone go out of their way to come here out of all the other gyms near Wendell to come to this gym. I came here because I live near here and just hadn’t had a chance to go into the dmv no where in the signing up process for the gym free trial does it explicitly say I need to provide an address with Cary in it. I then call back to speak with the manager and I get the same guy who told me the first time that I wasn’t he then goes on to say people try to take advantage of those passes and have many ways to turn people away with those types of passes. As a business you should never tell a customer they turn people away all the time for a reason that makes no sense and is absolutely absurd and disrespectful to assume people are taking advantage. This is a sad and disappointing gym do not go there they have horrible customer service and are very disrespectful.

Total waste of time. I signed up for the 5-day trial online right before going to try out the Cary location and I was immediately shoved into an office talking to a guy named Noah who tried to sell me a membership. After repeatedly telling him that I just wanted to take advantage of the free trial and he pitched me about 5 different sales pitches, eventually he conceded and asked for my ID, looked at it once, and told me since the city on my ID did not match the city the facility is in, I cannot even stay for the free trial. Such bad business. I do not recommend this place to anyone.

This place is absolutely the worst gym I ever joined. I paid a year in advance and then only 2 months began receiving collection calls. The only duty idiot said yeah we have a third party billing company and a lot of people have had that problem, but "he understands my frustration ." That's management speak for there's nothing we can do. Oh yeah, and if I terminate my membership they refund nothing. Bad, bad, bad investment on my part. DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE!!! GO anywhere else, but avoid Fitness Connection at all costs!!!

Very disappointed in my visit today at this location. Needless to say I have been coming here as a guest with my S/O for the past 10 months. Cutting to the chase: Today, July 31st around 1:30 PM I experienced the worst customer service from the moment I walked into the facility. Madison was definitely new but definitely had a MAJOR attitude issue. As I didn't like being spoken to the way I was I asked to speak to a manager, Russel. The conversation with Russel accomplished nothing and he was absolutely no help. Moments later words spurred between the three of us. He also threatened to terminate my boyfriends membership who was only a bystander. Unfortunately, this situation could've been handled a better way but as they say there is always room for improvement. I have followed up with cooperate and hopefully there will be a friendly, attentive new staff in the near future.

This BAD part of the review is SPECIFICALLY for CARY location ONLY. Out of convenience I have tried this location. Biggest FAIL is the CHILDCARE- DIRTY especially compared to my RTP location, is old & it always stinks. The toilet has been sprayed w/pee(little boys assuming) each time I have gone & I tell the ladies and they are very rude, like my daughter did it. Is that possible?? Childcare has given me issues everytime. I have left the gym 3 times(ive gone 6 times only worked out twice w/her & 1 time when she wasnt w/me). Emphasis POOR management in childcare. Lack of help, being rude, feeling my child is neglected while they just sit and do nothing(not a helicopter parent at all), not allowing her to drink any water, wont take her pee or let her pee by herself and help wipe her, being awfully rude to me and her. I could go on. RTP the girls treat my daughter like family and ALL the kids that come through and ive gone religously since January! Last time I went to Cary , they dont allow anyone to use their Wifi?!? WHAT! i cant workout w/o music & came w/an old phone that needed wifi to work, my bad but WHAT! again RTP is the bomb. I hvae asked wuestions about equipment at Cary or the gym and they are extremly unhelpful and rude. I don't understand it or why and how RTP is AMAZING, Every staff person I hvae ever interacted with in RTP except 1 person that isnt there anymore goes above and beyond. IF you sign up RTP is the location to go and i have heard AMAZING things abou NorthHills location as well. For the price you cant beat the equipment at NH and RTP. I have no complaints except CARY really needs to have upper managment come in and whip them into good customer service shape. CARY- Be kind, Be courteous, Be Clean and PROVIDE WIFI. RTP YOU ROCK THANK YOU!

I know that this gym is cheap and that to some extent, you get what you pay for. I’ve never had a problem with the machines or the staff. With that said, this location is FAR dirtier than others in the RDU area (like North Hills or Pleasant Valley, which I also go to).
As just one example (of many), the same clump of hair has been sitting on the floor of the locker room for at least several days, if not longer. I posted a photo as well. How often are you cleaning the locker rooms here?! I don’t expect luxury at such a low membership price, but at the VERY least I’d expect the floors to be swept daily!

You get what you pay for. Gym equipment and space like this isn't cheap. It's inevitable that this gym will sell more memberships than it's building can support. Along with little to no frills, that's how the $10 a month gyms stay profitable (see planet fitness for another example). Keep your expectations realistic, read contract, and you'll be fine. The one stars here are left by folks who are looking for a refund or didn't do their due diligence when researching the gym.

Amended: Left after 10 months due to numerous negative encounters with members. The staff is pretty terrible as well.

With my schedule I've never been back to the gym since that consultation with the Gm. I've been charged 4 months straight and i've never set foot in the gym. When I called to cancel they stated even though you have never been here for a work out we will charge you one more month plus a 20 dollar late fee for next month. Piss poor service! I usually don't leave reviews, but I moved to the Cary area and started working out at the Cary location and I've been extremely disappointed in several occasions where Kennedy (Opening Mgr or Employee) was late on several occasions, but his most extreme tardiness was last week or so where he was forty minutes late, and as he strolled up to the gym, there was like 15 people waiting and he didn't speak, no apology, just a blank stare and continued his opening duties. I'm hoping the management will hire people who are consistent and authentic with their responsibilities.

Left the Y and began here July '18. Can get crowded, but I've never waited more than one minute for a machine (gotta be flexible and switch it up anyway). I lift only 3 X's/wk. and the machines are well maintained. The staff (and really everyone there) is friendly. But it's the guys in the free-weight area that could be intimidating but are actually all very courteous and helpful. My college-aged daughter had to put her membership on "hold" b/c she went back to college and it was a breeze. The locker rooms are large and clean and the showers are exceptionally roomy with great hot water. Very happy w/this place. Keep up the great work!

I am in collections because employees apparently can’t update a payment. I went in and gave them a new card because I was closing the account for the card they had on file. So my new card is being charged $9.95 a month and all of a sudden I get a letter saying my acct is in collections for a past due amount. I call the gym & tell them that I have been charged every month and ask why I was sent to collections. They tell me that i was only being charged for the kids club & give me the card they have on file for the gym membership which is the OLD card I no longer have. I tell them I went in, gave them a new card & asked to change it. They ask who it was I gave the new card info to which I didn’t remember, so they said without the name, there was no way they could help me. I asked what difference it would make if I gave them a name & they said it would help them avoid that situation in the future (which is still not helping ME in any way). I asked to speak to a manager & the guy wouldn’t let me. He kept making up excuses saying that the manager was new. This was my go-to gym. I stopped going for a while & this is what happened. Never going back again.

They’re greedy. Make sure you don’t miss your 30 day notice one second or they charge you for another month that you may not be able to use. I got charged for another month because I cancelled on the third so if it was the second they wouldn’t have charged me for a month I’ll never used because I moved far away. And of course like anyone else would, they don’t prorate. Corporate wouldn’t let me talk to a supervisor.

This Gym only cares about your money. Once you sign a contract, you are in trouble. If you have the personal trainer for 3 to 6 months, or a year, make sure to go online to cancel the contract after the time has expired; otherwise, they keep adding more sessions without your consent. I guess you have to read the contract carefully before signing. Very dissatisfied with this place.

I only give it 2 stars because it's so cheap, otherwise it would be 1. It is pretty crowded, especially in the free weight area and it seems like this is regardless of time. The parking sucks and they don't supply towels anymore. It's not the cleanest place as people generally don't clean their machines but the staff doesn't do so either when they work out (I've witnessed this multiple times). When the trainers have clients, they don't wipe the machines and they don't remind their clients to do so either. This is the first gym where I've ever seen this happen and I've had memberships at Lifetime, O2 and Planet Fitness. The staff is generally unhelpful and unfriendly except for maybe 2 people but it's super cheap and in a convenient location so I deal with it all for now.

I will give this facility 3/5 because it's a good value for the extremely low monthly fee. I personally haven't had membership/fee issues, which seem to be what the majority of the 1-star ratings are about....

The space/crowd issues are a little frustrating, especially in the free weight section -- there's a single large cable-station that gets really jammed up. Meanwhile in the main room, there are two sets of mostly identical machines. OTOH, I'm glad the basketball court was changed over to Crossfit-stuff.

Cleanliness is OK. At some point they decided to discontinue towel service, so bring your own, or use paper towels....

Overall, it's a good gym, I think -- if your expectations are commensurate with cost, you'll be pleasantly surprised; if you expect a high-end spa-type facility, with pool, etc., at this price-point....

Think before you sign up for this gym! The monthly prices looks to be low, but they will charge you all other fee possible, annual fee before completing a year, fee for switching plans, 30 day notice to cancel (which means you will be charged for a month extra if you don’t use gym). Customer service is not so great.

SCAM - Avoid at all costs. My credit card expired (I thought my membership had been canceled), I received no notification until I received a bill in the mail 5 months later. When asked why this was the customer service agents response was "we aren't legally required to tell you". They tacked on late fees on top of the membership balance, which they eventually waived.

I paid the bill in full and then received another call a week later asking me to pay more. This was after I explicitly asked and was told that both my account and my wife's account were at zero balance. This was the result of sloppy data entry and a mis-spelling of my wife's name. This balance ended up being passed to collections, ultimately this was resolved before it affected my credit. But not before they add another $50 in fees of course.

Shady business! More time should be spent trying to attract customers through a good product and honest interactions. Instead they provide an overcrowded environment (weight room is unusable at peak hours) and work to make money using the methods list above.

The facility is about what you would expect. They have a large number of cardio machines, some nautilus type weight machines, free weights, and what I would describe as a crossfit type area with kettle bells, ropes, climbing pegs, etc.

If you're looking for a place to lift weights I'd consider looking elsewhere. The equipment is decent enough, but it's simply packed between 4-7 PM. This is expected to a degree, but if you want to lift during this time, you'll need to adjust your routine to fit what is available.

None of that sounds too bad, so why the 1 star? Because when you cancel your membership, you're actually giving a 30 day notice of cancellation. This means that even if you just paid your monthly fee, you'll be charged at least one more monthly fee before your membership is cancelled; if the annual fee falls in that 30 days, you'll be paying that too. This is simply a way to extract more money from the members. In this day-and-age they're going to pretend it takes 30 days to cancel a membership? Why do this? It leaves a sour taste in the members' mouths, and I'll never rejoin this gym again because of it.

UPDATE 10/20/2017: In response to the owner's comment, when I cancelled my membership, I did call the customer service line once I realized it would be a 30 day notice. On the phone I requested an immediate cancellation, which they informed me they wouldn't do. Frustrated, I asked what they would do if I had my credit card do a charge back on the extra monthly fee. The representative informed me they would send me to collections if I did that.

I have not tried calling again. It shouldn't require posting a negative google review in order to get decent customer service.

I've been a member of this gym for a little over 2 months and so far the experience has been a positive one. the members are pleasant, serious about their training and the gym has pretty much all you need to train. It could use some upgrades and some added equipment, but overall, not bad for the price. Customer service has been very good. Especially Katie Christian!
She always welcomes members with a smile, answers questions and concerns promptly and professionally, and always has a great attitude. Katie definitely adds an element of joy to my trips to the gym.
There is also another gentleman named Chris that works the front desk who helped me the other day with his jumper cables and was super helpful and patient. Great guy! Also very pleasant and positive!
