My husband LOVES this Fitness Connection and the South Blvd.location in particular mainly due to how close it is to home. Unfortunately that location on is closing; closing the end of this month, July 2021. They will have a location elsewhere, Albemarle Rd., I believe he said, and there is another current location in Ballantyne if he wanted to drive that far. No, he will find another gym. Too bad.

Definitely like it better than Planet Fitness! Only negative is how many bars they have in the back for leg day, lol. Just a smaller space than what I'm used to. Napoleon (sp?) was real cool, nice and informative. For my first day in a year back in a gym, I am definitely thinking about joining. Idk, I just like the vibe.

I was supposed to pay for a month cuz I was on vacation, less than a month later they charged me the annual fee and the comming month. I called several times to customer service to ask for my money and no one answered. When I could talked with someone they told me they won't give me my money back. I won't go there in the future.

I've been at this gym since 2018 and can't say anything bad. They have treated me super well and the facilities have been well maintained. I have seen that the quality of everything has dropped a lot (it may be due to the COVID effect) lately but there are specific details that denote poor administration such as the lack of water to drink while you do your exercises and the care of the bathrooms that are disgusting . They should take more care of this because there are other Fitness Connection that if they are concerned about keeping their clients clean and hydrated.

I come to this gym occasionally now as they follow COVID mandates and enforce masking the whole time while indoors which SC does not currently. Itโs clean! You can tell itโs a bit of an older building but itโs clean! So many other gyms arenโt following protocol right now but this one is. As long as the gyms in NC stay open I will be visiting this one when a home workout doesnโt do it for me.

Cons: weights are not well organized and people often don't return the weights when done. Also sometimes this place flat out stinks....it smells

The facilities are fine, with plenty of equipment options. The reason for the 2 stars is purely because of Fitness Connection's billing practices.
The first issue was when I was billed the annual fee twice in the same year. I was told that's because I changed my the type of membership I had (which was also an additional enrollment fee btw), and that meant I had to pay the annual fee again.
Recently I tried cancelling my membership since I don't feel comfortable going to the gym during COVID. There was no way to do it online, so I changed my credit card info instead so I wouldn't be charge. WRONG, I got charged again. I then called and sat on hold for 40 minutes after which I was told there's a 30-day notice for cancellations so I would be billed AGAIN one more time before my membership was actually cancelled.
Seriously, I felt like I was working out at a used car dealership with all of their shady billing practices.

I have visited the gym since reopening . I was very pleased that you guys are taking temperature of members and enforcing the mask rule. I was very nervous about returning, however the front staff made feel very safe with safety measures. FYI keep up the great work keeping everyone safe while we maintain our physical and mental health once again best gym in charlotte hands down.

So I signed up with FC back in 2016 because a family member recommended it. And for the most part the gym and staff at the south park location were fine. Today was my first day back since phase 2.5 went into effect, and I understand that public opinion and "government guidelines" are forcing the gym industry to comply with those "guidelines" but there's no way I'm letting a gym dictate to me that I have to wear a mask the entire time I work out. So when I was asked to cover my entire face while I'm doing my cardio, I simply got off the treadmill and asked for my account t to be cancelled. At this point its ridiculous and doesn't make any logical sense! Every other gym in town other than Fitness Connection are giving their members the option to put it on. Im 31 years old I don't need ANYONE including the government to tell me what I should or shouldn't do!!! I DO NOT recommend this gym to anyone if you like your FREEDOM!

The gym itself was fine but I cancelled my membership in 2018 because I started to work out at home. Its May 2020 and I'm just realizing that they failed to cancel my membership and so they've been charging me for over a year and a half for something I had cancelled. Not only that but their corporate headquarters has refused to assist me.

Good place to work out. My experience is only going in the early morning hours, so I can't speak to the experience during the peak hours. But I have never had an issue with this gym. They have been updating equipment somewhat frequently. The staff has never bothered me or been rude in any way, but I also don't generally say more than hi and bye.

Worst gym. Was a member primarily at the uptown location for a while. they do slimy things like close when there is any threat of bad weather even when it is sunny, they close the Uptown location with only two weeks notice before shutting down, yet only a week prior, they were still selling memberships to that location! Fitness Connection is an overall messed up company that treats the members poorly. The facilities are dirty and crowded...
But it's only $10 a month (if you pay for a sign up fee, you are being a pushover... You can 100% always negotiate that off.) And then they charge you $40 a year for "equipment fee". That part can't be negotiated off. if you absolutely insist on going to this gym, you should refuse to pay the initiation fee, you absolutely can get it waived if you refuse to join unless they waive it.

Waking up at 5am to go workout has never been that fun for me, but I found this gym through a recommendation from a friend. I was a little nervous about coming to a smaller gym, but Daniel made sure the initial experience was very welcoming. Daniel was really knowledgeable and explained how we would achieve our goals. I appreciated the attentiveness he gave each of us.
Also, the facility was much bigger than we thought it would be and it had a welcoming/nonjudgemental environment. I definitely plan on returning to the gym!

Last week, lights were turned off at 10:54 in various areas of the gym (one area being directly above my head while I worked out on the stairmaster). This behavior demonstrates poor customer service and a lack of concern for customer safety as I and others could have lost balance and injured ouselves. I understand that staff will begin to tidy up and turn off music, but turning off lights on paying customers is extremely rude. I have always respected their time by exiting by 10:59. I am dissappointed.

With the limited gym availabilities in the surrounding area, this is still the worst one you could select. The local manager there is not a people-person and would rather make a quick buck than provide a classy experience to the consumer. This is what initially prompted me to consider cancelling. Ever since the management change this place has gone downhill. The equipment is outdated and never clean/organized. Look elsewhere if you are wanting a gym membership.

After two months of the gym not being able to hit my account they sent NO notices to my email or calls saying that they did not get my payment and instead secretively started adding on multiple late fees. As if that wasnโt enough, the front desk attendants were rude and unhelpful and made the entire experience very uncomfortable.

I called and spoke to customer service about removing my card. They said they did. I have been charged $44.00 since May 31st the day I spoke to customer service. They keep charging my card $11.00. I don't know why especially since my card was supposedly removed. Please go to another gym because this one is a rip off. Customer service is a joke. The manager is never at the property to speak with. I've called several times and she is never there.

It is a scam, They make you sign up for the membership for 10$ per month and when you are moving from the State to another State that does not have Fitness connection, they expect you to give them a 30 day notice and keep charging you again and again.
I also got a personal trainer at the south park location, firstly I got a free session with a lady called May, she made me sign up for a contract with personal trainer for 6 months - I was assigned to a PT who most of the time use to talk to other people in the gym than concentrate on training me. Most of the time he was busy with other job outside of fitness connection, well if you have another job at that time - then assign me to another trainer.
every time u call customer care, they speak to you rudely or are yawning on the phone.

I've never felt so uncomfortable in my life! Mac, the gym Manager is abrasive and will yell at you in front of everyone for canceling a membership. He threatened me as a woman and said I should seek a lawyer after asking to cancel for the second time. The first time I asked to cancel he said he would set me up with a new membership to lower the amount as there was a promotion going on. Chad their RVP set it up, but they charged me for two memberships ongoing for 3 months and wouldn't cancel. I had to contact my credit card company and have them banned. Now, Fitness Connection has the gaul to send me to collections over $33 which they have gotten time and time again for billing me double over the course of multiple months. This is the worst organization to get a gym membership and I feel so disrespected as a woman. I will never go here again and have told everyone in my network about the unethical business dealings and terrible management they have in place.

Worst gym experience and worst customer service experience I have ever had. They have been drafting late fees from my account despite my payments being automatically drafted every month through their billing system. I showed them my bank statements proving that all of the payments they have ever attempted have all cleared for the past 15 months, including the $55 in late fees that have suddenly started showing up twice a month as of January this year. They are still arguing that itโs my bank must be the problem. I spoke with my bank and they were able to reverse the late fees to my checking account since they could see that the payments had cleared and no prior attempts had been made or otherwise declined. We have also ended up with miscellaneous late fee charges on my husbandโs credit card despite them not having permission to use that account or the fact that it was never associated with the billing. Despite the countless phone calls and in person conversations trying to figure out what was going on with my account, at no point did anyone from the corporate office or from the actual gym management offer an apology or explanation. Their resolution continues to be to call my bank. I also offered to pay my dues in full so that I could avoid any chance of being charged incorrectly again by them and I was told that itโs not in their policy to pay in advance. I only went to this gym because it was cheap, and they proved that you definitely get what you pay for. Spare yourself the billing nightmare that this has become, go to a different gym.

What an absolutely horrible experience. My wife and I were members here for over a year, and it went largely without incident. We billed both our memberships to the same account and it was paid on time with no problem. Then we decided to cancel and the real problems started. Without a doubt the absolute worst customer service in any industry I've ever experienced.
We noticed something was wrong when all of the sudden multiple $11 charges started appearing on our bank statement. When we called to ask what they were, we were informed that our bank had declined the charge for the membership fees and so we were charged a late fee without warning. Funny thing about that - two hours on the phone with our bank proved they never attempted the draft. We told them this on the phone and they told us to go into the branch. At the branch, they informed us that they had switched computer and payroll systems a few months ago and that must have been the cause of the problem. They promised to have the late charges removed and we paid all over due fees. Fine right? Wrong.
Two days later, they began charging a different credit card that was not even linked to either membership for the "late charges" claiming that they had again attempted them but they were declined. Oddly, neither Capital One nor Wells Fargo shows them ever attempting to charge the membership fees - just the late fees. We called the new billing company, old billing company, went into the branch and called the corporate office. What followed was an elaborate set of finger pointing with each group blaming the other but they all agreed on one thing: we were going to continue to get charged new late charges even after we had paid everything in full and there was somehow nothing that any of them could do about it. I cancelled my membership 3 weeks ago and finally got it paid in full only after forcing the manager to give me a receipt and show me on his computer screen that my account was cancelled. My wife is still trying to cancel hers over a month later.
This place is either knowingly scamming us or so absurdly incompetent that they should not be allowed to exist. We've reached out to the local news and police in hopes they can assist us or at least help prevent others from getting involved with this place. DON'T EVER JOIN THIS GYM.

Decent gym. However compared to other locations in the Charlotte area it's a joke. No power rack. Old equipment. It wouldn't be bad if it weren't for the fact that it is mediocre at best compared to other FC in the area and we pay the same price. Instead of wasting money on some new signage why dont you spend it a new power rack, or plyometrics boxes, nee plates or replace the deadlift platform that's falling apart.

Highly disappointing from the beginning. I have definitely learned to look at reviews prior to visiting establishments thanks to this location. Even the lack luster generic "sorry response" speaks to how little they actually care about their customers. Will never be coming back to this location. Although many of the responses to โone starโ reviews reflect a response that the gym claims they โalways puts memberโs needs firstโ, I am most certainly sure I am one of many that can attest that they are far from putting memberโs needs first.
Lack of follow-up and lack of customer service skills are a few behaviors their managers and employees happen to demonstrate consistently. I am sure these behaviors stem from the upper management and their lack of follow-up and customer service skills.. you canโt train behaviors that you donโt demonstrate yourself. It appears that I should have looked at the reviews prior to signing a membership with this gym.

I was a member at this gym for a while before joining another facility. The space was adequate and I never had much if any problem while I used the facilities.
The problems began when I tried to cancel my membership. First my cancellation was not even acknowledged. I had to follow up after being billed beyond cancellation. The manager was helpful when I in came in to talk, but the gymโs billing service has continued to cause issues. Iโve sent the same information to them repeatedly and after nearly four months they have processed my cancellation. I then received a bill for nearly $150 with no explanation, and the billing service has stopped responding to my requests for refunds due to billing past my cancellation.
If this was just about the gym I would have no issues. Unfortunately the gymโs billing service is terrible and impossible to work with.

I work weekends and this gym opens at 9am which works with my schedule. But not today. Got there at 9:15am and waited until 9:30 for no one to show up. There were others outside waiting and they said this has happened before. Eventually people started leaving, as did I. Guess no work out for me today. There's a 24hr PF down the street, might have to switch back. Also, no one cleans or re racks their weights here

I'm about to cancel my membership at this gym. Whenever I want to use a piece of equipment it's occupied or broken. If I'm paying a maintenance fee where is my money going? Also, I would like to have the luxury of using the indoor track but I cant because it's always taken over by a class. This class also crowds the area of the stair climb and the water fountain at the gym. I pay to be a member here and I cannot use half of the things I want to use.

All of these folks on here complaining about a personal trainer are hilarious. You don't need a personal trainer to workout and eat right. This gym has everything one would need to workout with. Along with the rest of the fitness connection around Charlotte. What effort you put into the gym is what you're going to get out of it. Results don't happen overnight.

This has been the worst experience I have ever had with a gym! I wish I would've read the reviews especially about the personal training before I went here. I was persuaded to get a personal trainer that barely acted like he cared (Alex). I thought I'd give him a shot though and went four weeks with training until I was fed up enough with playing 180 dollars a month to receive nothing that I was promised! After contacting the head of personal trainers(Phil) I was told he was going to help me take care of this issue, little did I know noone did anything about this until it racked up to 500 dollars! When I confronted them about this I was told it was because didn't pay the buy out. Yes that's right i had to buy out of their contract that they failed to uphold. After contacting multiple parties I was told even though my regular membership was up to date i still couldn't go to the gym until I paid my buyout! This place is absolutely awful with customer service PLEASE DON'T EVER GET PERSONAL TRAINING HERE!!!!!

All I wanted was to ask her to show me what kind of paper work my own personal trainer had on me which is very little to none and if she herself thought it was worth the 180 dollars a month I was paying so my personal trainer could google a workout 5 minutes before I got there, I could do that at home. My question to you is how would we get this resolved i would love to be able to continue my working out but I refuse to have to pay 230 dollars to cancel something I never received in the first place!

The gym is not bad. The equipment needs some updating but it gets the job done.The reason for my 2 star review is b/c of my personal training experience. A really nice guy named Phillip Oglesby signed me up 6 month program made up of 1 workout session per week and diet plan. I was so excited, Josh handled my workout program and he was amazing. Phillip handled my diet plan and that were things went bad. For the first 3 months he never provided me a diet plan. I asked about my diet plan during that 3 month period a handful of times when i saw him at the gym but he always said he would get on it right away but it never happened until I sent an upset email to him wanting to cancel the diet portion of my contract. Then we spoke at the gym and all he had to say was "I am so sorry I forgot" and I was like so am I still going to get charged for the diet portion of my contract and he said "I'm sorry there are no refunds". Then he said "Josh will handle my diet from now on." Josh provided me my diet plan and nutrition advise but I was already over it. I stuck with the program b/c I was stuck paying for it either way and Josh did provide me with some great works and nutrition advise. I would not recommend a training program with this location, due to customer service.

Large facility with ample equipment. Great for a starter gym goer and even veterans. Have bumper plates and an Olympic pad. Equipment isnโt new or in the best condition, but for 10/20 a month for metro pass, you canโt complain. Iโve been going for 4 years now and wonโt change gyms any time soon.

Nice place, good and friendly customer service, good workout machines selections to choose from. Energy bars, drinks, cookies are available. Water, Gatorade and even t-shirts are all available for you. Cleaning has really been stepped up. Weekday mornings and afternoons are the best time to workout, evenings tends to get crowded when most people get off work and so does Saturdays.
Quick question thou, is there any reason why i haven't seen any plastic recycle bins at this Fitness Connection?

Good equipment. DO NOT SIGN a personal training contract before knowing what you're getting yourself into. Also, they are hard on employees so the trainer you start with will not be who you finish with a year later.

This place is terrible at one point there had been some fake eye lashes sitting in the soap dish for two months. The heat and hot water wasn't working for a week and now they are completely closed with no sign of reopening any time soon. I tried to cancel as I need to go to the gym and was basically told I couldn't. When I asked when they would reopen they had no answer. I will say the girl at the front desk is awesome and always friendly but that's about all the good I can say.

Not the newest of equipment but everything is in working order and clean. Organizational layout and grouping of machines is perfect. Temperature is always where it needs to be, yes - not everyone racks their weights but that is any gym. And I've seen staff spend 10-15 mins re-racking lazy people's messes. I've been completely happy thus far. Not much more you could ask for at that price point

It's an OK gym for the price. A couple of the machines are not functioning properly. It's way too crowded after work to work out there. Some of the equipment is pretty old and is in desperate need of replacement. Some of the dumbbells are in pretty bad shape too. The other Fitness Connection locations definitely have better equipment, but this location is closest to where I live.

The worse condition I've ever seen a gym looks like it's been open over 50 years the weights are all over the floor it smells funny in there most of the equipment is broke i have gone to the other one and its 100 times better and bigger with great customer service (University area)...
The workers at this fitness connection smh wont speak or acknowledge you just cause it's an a heavily populated minority dosnt mean it has to look like it's run down ...DO BETTER!

Don't get PT sessions unless you have a healthy body and no reason to ever cancel!!! If you do want PT sessions make sure you tell them the day you sign up you want to cancel, because there is no trial period. You will be billed for two months regardless at $40 a session ($320). There's a 30 day cancellation process right off the bat. Oh, if you want to cancel, make sure you don't tell your trainer, call the main office directly. The trainer (ALEX) will make you feel like you can finish the month out that you've paid for and see if you want to keep training or not, but he won't pass your cancellation request up to the only person that will handle your account (AJ) because he wants to get that extra month of pay. And the trainers won't remind you that only AJ can handle your request. And the trainers won't own their mistake and pay for the month the allowed you to RE-up on. They screwed my girlfriend over just as I described above and she has to quit PT due to an upcoming shoulder surgery. So be careful trusting these trainers with your wallet. She just wanted to try it out to see if it would help her fitness goals, but they have a more permanent motive in mind.
Bathrooms are clean and you don't have to share equipment too often...but if you can't trust their financial ethics, then what's the point? There's other gyms in the area that will treat your wallet better. IE: Crossfit. They will cancel on the spot and prorate what part of the month you used. That's where I go. I went to this gym with my gf numerous times just for support and the fun of working out together. But gyms like Crossfit will respect you and your wallet and not lock you in to contracts you weren't aware of or tell you you're good to cancel when you'reโ not. Keep it in mind.

It's a $10 a month gym. Broken equipment takes a little longer to get back to being operational (~2 weeks). The floor sags in areas so watch your step. Two squat racks and a deadlift platform are good. Staff is moderately friendly, they say "hi" and "bye" but nothing beyond that.

I love this gym. I visit the south park location. Only gave 3 stars because 1.. I wish the gym would stay open longer .. especially on weekends .. and 2 .. I wish the sauna was a bit bigger. Other than that. I enjoy coming here!

They advertise a five day free trail offer but fail to tell you that you can't start working out until you speak with a fitness counselor and you have to wait until 9am just to do that. If I browse your website than tell me all of this upfront so I know what to expect instead of getting up at 5am for nothing. This has been my problem with the gyms here in Charlotte they don't tell all the information.

Plenty of machines and equipment including a small cycling room and decent sized room for fitness classes. However, feels like working out in a warehouse without much lighting or windows. Some may not mind but I prefer not to look directly into a wall when on a treadmill.

This gym is awful! Machines are very outdated, when they break they don't get fixed for weeks, they're all rusty, there's 3 different kind of free weights so no consistency,no one re racks their weights, it's dirty, dirty bathrooms, dirty showers, and they charge a "facility fee" which improves nothing. If it weren't 3 minutes from my house I definitely would not be a member there. All the other locations are clean, well maintained, new machines and open better hours. I feel like the facility on sought Blvd is the red headed step child and we get the short end of the stick.

OK gym for the price
Pros:
- Free weight benches and variety of machines compared to Planet Fitness
Cons:
- Becomes very crowded at times and waiting for equipment to open up
- $15 for a guest pass for the day, this is almost as much as my monthly membership fee. My issue is if your guest doesn't have an ID with them then the only 'reasonable' substitute Fitness Connection feels is for them to pay $15 to work out...like seriously I could see $5 at most and I could understand if your guest needing an ID was for security purposes but this security factor just so happens to disappear with $15. FYI for management you lose potential joining members to competitors who do not have their IDs who possibly may have signed if this policy wasn't so asinine.

I dont like this gym. Its suppose to be no contract. But cancellation policy is a contract.
They harassed me for a membership so i signed up. I get there, its an okay gym limited equipment so i found myself waiting alot . wanted to cancel the first werk but i still gotta wait 30 days due tp cancellation policy. Policy so aggravating its not even worth signing up.

I just signed up. Everyone in the reviews saying that the staff is terrible and the gym isn't open at 5 am is full of it. I've been there every morning this work week and when I pull on the door at 4:50a.m. It is open. It's nothing fancy but it gets the job done.

I'm tired of waking up at 4:30 in the morning just to come to a gym that can't get a staff member up to unlock the doors at 5am like they are hired to do.
This is ridiculous and inexcusable, I've been sitting in my car(along with a few other angry members) for the past 40 minutes waiting on someone to unlock the door. I finally left because no one showed up! This has happened MULTIPLE times.
PS- it doesn't help that I can't get ahold of anybody on the phone to report and to fix this issue.

I was at fit. con. getting a suit altered at K&G alterations and had 10 minutes to kill. I was in athletic clothes already and had never been to this gym and wanted to try it out? The front desk lady could not answer hardly any questions I had, and they charge $15/day guest pass- no matter if you're only their 10 minutes. From what I saw inside, the gym is pretty spacious like a PF. I would rate customer service 1/5. Not my type of gym.
