Yoga studioAbout the Club
Franklin Street Yoga Center is an oasis in downtown Chapel Hill where you can move, breath, restore and belong. Class offerings include meditation, vinyasa yoga, slow flow, and yin yoga. The 2000 sq. ft studio space is warmly heated to 75 degrees and we play music in our classes. Our newcomer special is $50 for three weeks of unlimited classes. We were voted INDY Week's best yoga studio of Orange/Chatham Counties in 2022 and 2023 and best yoga studio of the Triangle in 2023. Lori Hernandez, UNC '88 opened the studio in 2007.

My favorite yoga and Pilates studio (and the only one I’ve gone to since I moved here two years ago)! The owner and teachers are all gems and it’s such a beautiful community of souls. Totally hooked on Monday and Friday Pilates. If I didn’t have two littles, I would probably be here every day 💫

I teach dance and had been feeling very disconnected from my body after an especially intense work week. My partner and I decided to try out the slow flow class with Amy and had a truly great experience. I have many years of yoga experience while this was my partners very first class. Amy met both of us where we were and gave a great class. I loved that each pose was treated as an opportunity for movement and did not feel forced. This made me feel very in control and left me a lot of space to reconnect with my body. My only feedback is that I felt the class was a bit fast paced but there was not pressure to move on so it was alright. Overall a great experience and we will definitely be back!

Franklin Street Yoga is truly one of the warmest, most welcoming studios I’ve had the pleasure of practicing with. I’ve taken class with Lori and Emily— both of whom were wonderful!! The studio space is beautiful and relaxing and you’ll definitely leave feeling better than when you came :)

It's disgusting and pathetic that they feel the need to discriminate against people depending on their skin color. Different prices for different skin color. Racism at its finest.

My home away from home. The place I feel at ease at the end of my day before my commute home. I love this place and the community that it creates. I always get the help that I need and feel amazing after class. Love the teachers and the practice it’s helped me develop on my own. FSYC is not judgment, everyone is welcome and valued. It’s clean, inviting, and there are plenty of mats and blocks to go around!

How do I love FSY? Let me count the infinite ways! Lori has created a wondrous place for mind, body, and soul. Whether you’re looking for a good workout for the body, an uplift in your soul, or something to meditate upon, you will find it at this studio. I have been practicing here for over 3 years, have taken almost every class and experienced most of the teachers. Here is a synopsis of the three parts of the studio, yoga/boot camp/barre:
Yoga, no matter the class - all levels are truly welcome. The classes start with a short meditation or chant to get the brain into a mindful mode. Each teacher has their unique style along with every class being individualized, so there is never a feeling of repeating the same class. I always leave the mat feeling spiritually and physically better than when I arrived.
Boot camp is an intense 45 mins of work with 10 mins of stretching. Just when you’re at the point of wanting to give up, it’s time to stretch! It’s a full body work out and you’re feeling it the next day. Jason will give 3 levels of skill for each move. He makes sure all levels will achieve something from the class. In each session, we will do lunges, squats, push-ups, lots of ab work, planks, along with the occasional whining. As a faithful bootcamper for the past 3 years, I can’t proclaim enough how this class has shaped my body. Devoted!
Barre - I will be the first to admit that I didn’t believe barre would do that much for my body since I went to bootcamp twice a week, ran about 20 miles a week, and practiced yoga 3-4 times a week. I was delightfully wrong! Barre with Judy is incredible! It has really taken the definition of the legs and glutes to another level. Judy is such a great motivator to power through the burn and focus on the results. These classes are as intense as you want them to be, but I always can get the HR elevated, muscles burning, and feeling accomplished when I leave.
As I travel for work or pleasure, I seek out local studios to practice. While I have found many welcoming places across the nation, no place is a wonderful as FSY. I have visited ones that are more focused on the trendy yoga feel that really is a workout rather than a yoga practice. If you’ve been to one, then you know what I am referring to, not much in substance. FSY is not that type of place! There is no charge for mat rental and the mats are cleaned by staff members. Lori welcomes the new yogis every time. There are discounts for new to the studio and students. I opted for the one-time fee unlimited pass and I make sure to put that pass to good use! Based on the other studios, the class price is an amazing value for what one gets back in workout.
In conjunction with such great options for the body, Lori has created a healing studio for the soul. There are classes for meditation, she routinely holds fund raisers for groups in need, and is always involved with helping to make the community a better place by donating her time or studio. I always feel so lucky to be able to practice at FSY!!

I’m visiting Chapel Hill this week and decided to stop in for some classes and I’m glad I did. I felt welcomed on my first visit and the rebel beats vinyasa classwith Lori was fun and the asanas were challenging. There seems to be a strong sense of community in this studio: folks participating in a 32-day challenge put stickers for attending next to their name on a poster on the wall; there’s a cubby with (labeled) personal mats next to the ones available to borrow.
The studio seems popular (or at least the class I attended was); there are tapes down to help you place your mat and things were pretty up close and personal, just as an FYI.

I was visiting my brother in Chapel Hill and he recommended this yoga studio to me.
Now, I'm recommending it to everybody else. I was greeted with a warm welcome by Sasha and Chandler (if I misspelled your names or got them wrong, I apologize). It was a great introduction to the studio. Then I had the pleasure of taking an evening vinyasa class with Lauren. The clarity, attention, and precision she brought to the class was greatly appreciated. The arrangement of the class was appropriately organized and well thought out.
Warming up the core, then to the spine, then to vinyasa, then to standing/balancing poses, restorative poses, and finishing with a lovely savasana.
I don't live here, but I will be back (not Arnold-style though). Thank you!
