This gym completely wasted my time and couldn’t get a simple membership right.

No one told me about the 24-hour access option, so my first late-night visit ended with me locked out. I went back, paid for 24-hour access, and the staff still signed me up for the wrong service—a recovery room. Locked out again. They admitted the mistake, claimed it was fixed… and I got locked out yet again.

This happened six or seven times—I lost count—each time driving 20 minutes from home or school for nothing. Hours of my life gone because of their incompetence.

The manager was polite, which is the only reason this isn’t a 1-star review. But no apology, no compensation, just endless hassle. If you’re considering this gym, double-check every detail or be ready for the same nightmare.

Terrible experience. Lot of complaints, but the biggest was watching employees barely clean when they are deep cleaning machines. Every piece of equipment has a serious odor and at least 3 layers of caked on sweat. Obviously never cleaned. Bathrooms are like Afghanistan.

So glad I threw away 150 bucks for the sign up fee. This gym wasted my time, and money

We cancelled our memberships back in February 2025 after moving away, yet it’s now October and Gold’s Gym has continued charging us every month. We’ve called multiple times and were assured the account was cancelled, but the charges never stopped. At this point, this is either gross negligence or outright unjust enrichment. We expect immediate resolution: stop billing us and refund the eight months of charges for services we did not and could not use. This is unacceptable and feels like predatory business practice.

I have been communicating with staff on site about cancelling the membership since February and it is now August and still no success. This is due to a move outside of the radius as described in the contract. The staff doesn’t respond to emails and are probably too busy taking vids for the Gram to actually perform customer service.

As you will notice, many people have issues with “Peak Payments” as they apparently outsource the contracts. It’s ridiculous that they cannot actually perform a simple task at the gym.

I visited (on a 1 day pass) while in town for business. There is plenty of equipment for all fitness/workout levels. All the equipment I used was in good working order. The staff was friendly and the gym is clean. If you like pre-workout or supplements, there is plenty there for sale as well. Overall a great experience; this is my new regular place when visiting Raleigh!

I had a written contract here via my health insurance until 8/28/25 but Gold’s just cancels it effective 4/18 with zero notice or notification. They never told me they showed me the door on a dime until I was literally at the door saying their partnership with my insurance BCBS had ended. Zero notice or communication not to mention the agreement I have with them. Great gym but poor business.

Honestly, this gym has everything I’ve been looking for. The vibe is awesome, everyone’s focused but friendly, and it doesn’t feel intimidating like some other spots.

I love that it’s open 24/7. With my crazy schedule, it’s super convenient to be able to work out whenever I have time, early mornings, late nights, doesn’t matter.

The place is always clean, which is a big deal for me. The equipment is well taken care of, and there’s never a shortage of machines or weights. They’ve got everything from cardio to heavy lifting, plus all the extras like cables, squat racks, and benches.

It just feels like a place where people go to put in real work. No fluff, no nonsense, just a solid gym that delivers.

Highly recommend if you’re serious about your fitness or just want a reliable, well-kept gym that’s open whenever you need it.

Emma is amazing! She helped me achieve all my fitness goals. When I started, I had a body fat percentage of 30%, and now I'm down to 10% with no signs of slowing down. This is definitely the best gym in the Triangle. Blake, who works at the front desk, exemplifies exceptional customer service. I've been coming here for three years, and I can't speak highly enough of this gym and its staff.

Giving it 3 stars because it’s a great place to workout but has some recurring issues.
- Lack of benches in the free weight area. Sometimes other members will take the benches and move them elsewhere and there will only be 3-4 benches in the free weight area. The gym added a whole new set of dumbbells a while ago so adding 1-2 more benches at least would make a big difference.
- The door to the posing room really needs to swing inwards, not outwards. I’ve almost been taken out by someone whipping the door open from the inside while I’m walking past. Also the door is opaque so you can’t see when someone is on the other side of the door about to open it.
- The gym keeps getting rid of paper towel dispensers, which is odd. They got rid of one that was centrally located near some of the leg machines and now I’ve noticed people have just not been wiping down the equipment in this area because the closest paper towel dispensers are now annoyingly far.
- They keep closing down the bathroom for cleaning which is odd. I’ve seen it closed for up to 30 minutes at a time. At least put a notice up with the dates and times the bathroom will be closed so we can plan ahead. Or make an announcement over the speaker that the bathroom is about to be closed so we can get our stuff from the locker room if we plan on leaving in the next 30 minutes.
- The cardio area is very hot and the fans there are never on. We really need more air circulation there.

Overall it’s a nice gym but with some annoying issues.

The Amenities at Gold's Gym are great. HOWEVER, DO NOT sign with this gym. I have been trying to get out of my contract with their payment management company, Peak Payment Solutions for several months now. I finally canceled payments on the membership since I was not utilizing services there and they had been unwilling to cancel my membership since it was an auto-renew contract. They then keep adding to my late fee since I have not paid and want for me to pay increasing late fees for services not rendered. However, according to the "Click to Cancel" rule with the FTC, this practice has been deemed unlawful. I would NOT sign a contract with them.

The paper towel dispensers never have paper towels. The one job you have is to refill the dispensers and you still can’t do it. Not even the bathrooms! Not only that but the machines take 4 months to repair.

We evacuated from Asheville due to Hurricane Helene, and when we went to Gold’s Gym for a day pass, they surprised us with a free week! It was completely unexpected, and we were so appreciative. Exercise is a big part of our mental healthcare, and the sense of normalcy was so needed during that stressful time. The gym was very clean, well-equipped, and every staff member we met was friendly and helpful. 10/10 would highly recommend this gym!

I've been training for over 15 years and this is the best gym I've ever been to!! It's run by true professionals. The staff is very nice and welcoming. This place is open 24 hours and they CONSTANTLY update their equipment. Speaking of equipment, I've never seen such a huge variety of equipment in my life aside from Venice Golds. However, unlike in Venice Golds, these guys take care of the equipment by constantly maintaining it and updating it with new stuff!! I absolutely love this place!!

I recently had the opportunity to visit Gold’s Gym after being displaced by a hurricane, and I can't recommend it enough. They generously offered me a free week, which was a much-appreciated gesture during a tough time.

The gym itself is impeccably clean. The variety of equipment is impressive; from free weights to cardio machines, they have everything you need for a comprehensive workout. I was particularly impressed with their selection of strength training gear.

What truly sets this gym apart is the staff. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and attentive. Their positivity and support made my experience even more enjoyable.

If I were local to the area, I would definitely be joining this gym. Gold’s Gym is a fantastic facility that truly cares about its community.

This gym is awesome! I’ve been to some Gold’s that are larger, with more equipment, but this one is still pretty huge and it has an excellent amount and variety of weight machines...especially for leg workouts. I’ve never seen any gym that has more unique leg equipment than this one. The only downside I can see is that they might be a little lacking on cardio equipment. Not sure how crowded that area gets at the busiest times. I wish I lived in the area because this is definitely the gym I would join.

DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT sign up for a personal training session at this Gold's Gym. I'm a member here and have been before they fully opened up; now going on 3 years. All of the management staff are professional and helpful from my experience, but the PTs are not all the same. Against my reluctance I tried a 6-month PT training and asked about cancelling procedures. I was told that if I wanted to cancel early it would have to be with a doctors note - cool. Nothing else around the cancellation was mentioned. The 6 month training or any other, apparently auto renews. For me this is at $250 every two weeks. My trainer had nothing to do with this but the other one that signed me up was the one I sat in front of, looked in his eyes and asked these questions and he choose to mention that I needed to cancel a 6 month contract. Here is why this is slimy. If I agree to 1, 2, 3 or 6 months of PT, why would a supposedly reputable establishment think of only pulling in more money from a member who has agreed to spend extra cash with them? If it was reputable the PT signing you up would also be trained to mention this important detail, unless of course, they get paid extra on this - HINT: they sure do!!

After being told that I needed to read my 4-plus page fine print agreement and it states I needed to cancel it myself, the Peak Payment company still refuses to stop the PT training but wants to charge me 3 more payments and to top it off, I have not worked with my trainer for some time. This disregard for loyal or simply, any loyal member's hard earned money is disgusting.

I will NOT recommend Gold's Gym in Chapel Hill NC PT services. The amenities are top-notch however the PT services and all that is involved in it, is a bait-and-switch offering that I am hoping to warn others to avoid.

Good gym and has pretty much all you need for the workout. However, they make it EXTREMELY HARD to cancel the membership. Just be aware.

Update: a few days later. They still trying to force me to pay sneaky fees on top of $50 cancellation fee. Would not recommend getting monthly membership especially the contract. They are not transparent about cancellation policy at all and I would suggest doing month to month if even there is a slim chance of cancelling the membership.

This gym is fine, since the area tends to lack any good gym offerings. For the price ($50 a month), I struggle to see the worth.

Yes, they do have a great selection of equipment. However, this place can get incredibly crowded. The paper towel dispensers are commonly empty.

My biggest complaint are the amount of cameras and tripods. If you don't want to be in the background of someone's video or feel like you are in the middle of a YouTube production; this might not be the gym for you.

Really disappointed. I have been coming here since they first opened basically. Had a normal membership and then was convinced to SWITCH to active and fit through them. Their manager convinced me. So I did. Fast forward to this month, my membership randomly stopped working and I was told by the owner that they no longer take active and fit so I don’t have a membership. Apparently I was the 10th person THAT WEEK. I have one month left of college so I won’t be here much longer. Begged the owner to honor my original member price just for one month ($35) since I had not been notified of this change (I checked) and since I had never finished my annual plan because the manager convinced me to switch and cancel my annual plan. Owner said best he could do is $70 with a 20% discount which brought it to $56. Their system wasn’t working well and after about an hour and about 7 swipes of my CC, the owner told the worker to keep trying because he would rather me pay then just giving me a day pass. Then the owner tried and my card had a fraud alert from all the attempted swipes. In the end the owner gave me one day pass for all my troubles. He told me I could pay for daily passes each day of the weekend since this occurred on a Friday or I could not workout for the weekend and he would try again Monday when he was in again.

I used to love this gym and I came here every day basically but the customer service/ greediness is really what got me. I’m glad my card put the fraud alert on because I will never pay another cent to them again after this.

This is a solid gym, you really can’t beat the equipment and the people are generally really friendly and willing to help if you need it.
The crowd after work is exactly what you would expect, super busy, and because there’s a ton of college students it stays pretty busy even later in the evening. Sometimes there are actual lines waiting for squat racks, and customers aren’t great about wiping down equipment or re-wracking weights. My biggest complaints though are that they frequently are out cleaning supplies to wipe down equipment, and the WiFi never works. I don’t really get service in here either so using any kind of workout app is a struggle, and forget pulling up a YouTube video if you need a quick form reminder. Not sure why they haven’t just changed service providers considering it’s worked literally twice while I’ve been a member. I’ve brought up both of these issues multiple times and they seem to fall on deaf ears.

I've been a member of Gold's Gym for quite some time now, and overall, I've had a really positive experience. The equipment is top-notch, the classes are fantastic, and the atmosphere is motivating. The trainers are knowledgeable and always ready to assist, making my workouts effective and enjoyable.

However, I have noticed a minor concern that I'd like to address. While the majority of the gym is kept immaculately clean, I've encountered a bit of an issue with the cleaning staff. Some of the cleaning personnel tend to be a little overzealous when tidying up while members are working out. It's great to have a clean environment, but there have been instances where they seem to be placing a "cynical" sign in front of members as they exercise. This can be a bit distracting and slightly off-putting.

Keep up the good work, Gold's Gym!

This is the nicest gym of which I’ve been a member. They have a ton of great equipment, including more specialized machines for both bodybuilding and powerlifting than you would expect to find at your average commercial gym.

The community that works out at Gold’s Chapel Hill is both friendly and dedicated. I’m there most days of the week, and I see a large group of people who go very consistently and are clearly making great progress. Everyone I’ve talked to has been very nice. It is kept clean and well-air conditioned as well, which is a great plus. Also, the snacks at the front desk are very well curated. The staff are friendly and seem to always be at the gym—they’re working out if they aren’t at the desk, which might help explain why the equipment is always in great shape and why they always make great decisions on what machines to acquire.

Membership pricing is competitive—their student rate (which I have) is cheaper than the equivalent rate at the only real local competitor, O2 Fitness. They also have 24-hour keycard access, which sets them apart positively from other options in the area.

My only knock against this location is that they’re a bit limited by their square footage in terms of the spaces they can have in the gym. I think they’ve made the correct decision, which is to pack in as much actual lifting equipment as they can, sacrificing little-used areas like the dance/yoga studio to more power racks and leg machines. On the other hand, this means that their turf areas aren’t nearly as usable as they could be, so you’ll probably want to do your farmer walks somewhere else (or come when no one else is around, which might be a tall order). Maybe at some point they’ll manifest destiny more of the building, though that doesn’t seem imminently likely.

I’ve never used the personal training, though my friends who have gave positive feedback.

This is a franchise location, so you don’t have a national Gold’s membership, but you can still work out at any Gold’s location nationwide by filling out a card at check-in, so I’ve appreciated having good gym options when I’m out of town and in a city which still has a Gold’s. Sadly a lot of cities no longer have their Gold’s locations post-pandemic.

TL,DR: It’s a great gym.

Recently signed on here at golds gym chapel hill, the experience has been easy and low stress. my trainer is Brayden his communication is top notch. Brayden’s willingness to work with me and my pre existing injury’s and how to work around them to achieve my goals, with out making them worse is a huge plus and something Iv been looking for!

Be prepared for the worst workouts of your life!

The owner PAYS money to create an uncomfortable, hazardous environment for their clients. They locked the thermostats to only have the heat active. On warmer winter days, it gets to 74-75 degrees with no air circulation. Temperature by itself isn't an innate problem, but in a closed space with no air circulation, people sweat more. This increases the humidity, which is the real problem. Maybe someone should tell the owner, but high humidity makes it more difficult to breath due to less oxygen in the air. Less oxygen to your muscles leads to increased rate of fatigue and chance of injury. They are purposely creating a safety hazard that I will be reporting to Golds corporate. Someone is going to significantly injure themselves or have a serious cardiac event with that level of heat, humidity, and lack of air circulation. If that occurs, 100% of the blame should be placed squarely on the owner.

They could save money and create a better workout environment, but they actively choose not to do so. That should tell everyone all you need to know about the value they place on the members. The front desk employees get daily complaints about the temperature and nothing changes.

I was told about Golds gym at work and went there to know more and also see the equipment.
The blonde lady at the front desk this morning was acting in a non chalant way, it was like a first time customer is bugging her or maybe she hates her job. She didn’t even want to explain anything or take a tour properly and show me around. All she did was stood at the long hall way and was pointing out equipments far away. It just showed in her attitude that she hates to be there.
I wanted to sign up with my co workers but the hospitality wasn’t welcoming. We just had to leave.

Gold's gym chapel hill is a very clean, well maintained and well stocked gym. The equipment is good and the staff and management do their best to keep it updated frequently. I have had very positive interactions with the staff when I've had concerns.

Here are the cons keeping it from receiving a five star rating. The one thing which the management could change but do not is keeping the temperature so high. It's a gym, it really doesn't need to be heated, especially over seventy degrees year round. I know myself and others have made this known but I guess they really want to make it extremely hot in there for some reason. The part that is outside of their control is the gym is becoming so crowded it is basically impossible to workout without being there at a very weird hour. It's not their fault and they have tried to add more space and equipment, but this is one of the only true good gyms in the area and I don't see this problem changing. I don't intend to cancel my membership but the volume of people is really getting out of control.

I've had a great experience training with JJ for the past few months at Gold's. JJ constantly pushes me to work harder, and makes sure I'm using proper form and technique. I've put on noticeable muscle mass and strength during this time. I highly recommend him as a trainer and believe anyone who works with him and follows his meal plans will see similar results.

Gold's Gym has top of the line equipment with multiple variations throughout the gym along with a great variety of cardio and strength and conditioning classes. I've recently begun working with a personal trainer. JJ has surpassed all of my expectations. He is personable and has a great foundation of knowledge when it comes to fitness/strength and conditioning. He is invested in his clients, willingly going the extra mile. He not only has created a meal plan and fitness plans designed specifically for me, he also provides pinpoint explanations as to the benefits and rewards of each. With his guidance, motivation and genuine excitement towards helping his clients, working with JJ has been one of my best decisions this year and I'm looking forward to working with him throughout 2023.

I love this gym, it provides me with all the equipment I need to transform my body. My trainer JJ Argueta is the best trainer. His meal plan and workout split has changed my life. When I first met JJ I had just been released from my doctor to get back into the gym after surgery. Between surgery and rehab I had gain 25 lbs. Since having JJ as my trainer I have lost 30 lbs. He has changed my life in just a few months. Thank you JJ and Gold's Gym Chapel Hill for being here.

The gym is clean, has a great atmosphere, and the staff is great. I started training with JJ 1-2 times a week about three months ago and he is wonderful. He always answers all of my questions, was super helpful as I was getting to learn the machines and even helped me figure out my workouts on the days we don’t meet. I would absolutely recommend Golds in Chapel Hill and working with JJ.

I’ve been going here about 9 months now. Staff is great, but equipment is okay. The cables are pretty awful (weight is not calibrated correctly and lots of resistance from them), and some random machines are not worth even trying.
The #1 problem I have with this gym is that it is HOT. The temperature that is. It stays 70+ (per the gauge on the wall) whether it’s summer or winter. The squat rack area is insanely hot because the heat pumps right over top of it. You can’t even stand under them. Working out in a hot gym SUCKS. I’ve heard several complaints over this and it’s never fixed. Breathing in cooler air while exercising is scientifically proven to be the best. Especially being $40 a month.

I’ve been going to Gold's for a little over three months. I signed up to have a personal trainer and train twice a week. My trainer JJ is great, he goes above and beyond to ensure you are making progress. He put me on a custom meal plan and workout split for the days I don’t train with him. I’m paying for 30-minute sessions and he always goes over to ensure I have a good workout. It shows that he truly cares about his clients and his willingness to make sure they succeed in their goals. I’ve gained over 15 pounds in lean muscle since I started training with him. The gym itself is very clean and well-maintained. It offers plenty of machines and different workout equipment for your workouts. I highly recommend this gym for people that are serious about wanting to make a change in their life.

Eh- I can’t say that I’m too thrilled about the gym. Idk how long I will stay.
Pros- lots of equipment, it isn’t crowded during the hours that I choose to go, it appears clean
Cons- staff does not seem approachable, a couple of the paper towel dispensers have been empty weeks in a row and the bottles are broken.
Last but not least- make sure you bring a lock. I didn’t have a lock one day and someone stole my jacket out of my locker, which is pathetic.

The best equipment in the area. I love this gym, I only wish they had a better system for the 24-hour door access. I’ve been to the gym a few times early in the morning, and the door was not working. The call support center is not useful when the door is off-line because the Internet is out. It would be nice to have a number to call a real person that can come unlock the door. I also wish they provided towels. Otherwise this is a great gym, friendly staff and has everything you need.

Note: There was no issue with my key tag. I called the support number on the door, and the gentleman said that the door was "offline" probably due to the internet being out. Would have been nice to have a # to call someone to come unlock it, but there was nothing he could do remotely. I drive out of the way to workout here and definitely could have slept in.

In my past life I wasn’t brave enough to take any of the fitness classes, but this morning at 8:30 I ventured to try the Body Pump class. Great workout, and today’s instructor Leslie is a total pro. Didn't want to give this gym a 1 star but the cancelation policy deserves. Littearly had my gym membership for a month during the process of getting me membership I asked how much it would be to cancel my membership just incase I don't Iike it. I was told I would have to pay an extra 2 months of bills to cancel which was fine. 3 weeks later I notice the gym was getting more packed and more packed. So I asked to cancel now their telling me I have to pay 104 for a 30 day notice as well as 2 months of my membership. Why lie and rip people off. 194 it's unreasonable to cancel a gym membership that's only been active for a month will be going to bbb

Update a month later u have fully canceled my membership some how golds gym is still billing me saying "it's still pending" how when I paid 194 dollars to cancel this gym is a joke.
