If you don’t like 24hr fitness you won’t like this, it’s a old 24hr fitness, but worse.

Abandoned pool, sauna abandoned, fitness equipment is all old 24hr fitness equipment and gross.

The men’s restroom looks like a bomb went off every morning I went, backed up toilets and TP all over, not once but 2x each morning I went.

Stay home, avoid the gross.

Love this place but they seem to have quit cleaning the showers. The women’s haven’t been touched in over 2 weeks and the boy at the desk just said that the tiles were old and the landlord wouldn’t let them doing anything about it. The clump of hair and grout nastiness I’ve seen for 2 weeks has nothing to do with the tiles being old and discolored.

Just wanted to amend this review because the manager at Gold’s did get the dirty shower situation handled and I was very appreciative that he rectified the situation relatively quickly.

Used to be an instructor at this location when it was The Rush and had a membership after Gold’s acquired this location. It was fantastic years ago but now they have removed the amenities (sauna, steam room, pool, and jacuzzi) and last time I was there it was unclean in the women’s locker room area. I sincerely hope they reopen the sauna soon and straighten up this establishment. I would love to have a nice convenient local facility to utilize again.

This is my gym. I love it. The early morning staff are friendly and the trainers I've spoken to are friendly

It's not uncommon for there to be alot of equipment laying around first thing in the morning and the bathrooms and showers coud stand a little more attention (could be cleaner) and shower and soap dispensers occassionally are empty

Lights have been out in the outside entry way for a long time

There is a population of homeless people in the area that you may encounter from time to time

Tons of machines, weights, racks, dumbbells, and space. Friendly and helpful staff. We visited on vacation and it was fun and easy. Lots of drinks, pre and post workout drinks too. Great gym in Asheville with convenient hours.

Was assured by front desk staff it would be easy to cancel membership - that the issue past reviewers had was resolved. But not the case. I emailed to cancel after Helene. Followed the link they sent but apparently it didn’t work and kept charging me. When I realized the error, I spoke to the front desk who assured me they would honor the original date of requesting cancellation. But the manager, Scot, did not. They charged me hundreds of dollars for a membership I didn’t use after I requested cancellation in writing and did everything they asked.

This franchise uses a third party billing system called peak payment solutions to extract money from their members. Even if you are not under any sort of contract or commitment they will not allow you to cancel your membership directly. You are instead instructed to address it with the billing company. This makes it next to impossible to cancel the membership, so your only course of action is to simply stop paying them. Then Peak payment solutions will immediately start charging you late fees and will start threatening collections and calling relentlessly within a week of a missed payment. It is illegal to try to extort payment out of people, who are under zero contractual commitment to pay you, by threatening collection.

Honestly not sure why there’s so many bad reviews. I see a lot of references to a pool that’s out of commish and has been for years so I fail to see why it’s still relevant 😂 but I go to the gym to lift and use the ellipticals and from that standpoint this gym has everything I wanted and more. I just moved to town last September and was struggling to find a gym with good equipment until I came here. Def don’t regret signing up! Price is about standard for all gym memberships in 2025 too. Workers have also been quite nice. Chill environment. Def give it a try if you’re thinking about it!

Machines are broken, the pool and jacuzzi have been down since Covid 5 years ago but new owners have promised they had plans to fix and resume 24 hour availability since September 23. They don’t. The air conditioning was set on 75 all summer and the place smells moldy, water stained tiles falling from the the ceiling You can’t contact them by phone bc they don’t answer and the mailbox stays intentionally full. They hide behind their 3rd party app for billing. All golds locations owned by Matt Heald have similar one star reviews and complaints. They charge an additional $75 and call it an improvement fee. Find a gym with an owner and employees who not only care and have people skills they are happy to work at a job where ppl come to improve not act like they’re profit and we’re overhead.

The staff is rudest someone has treated me in a long time. I walked in and dude didn't speak to me for a few minutes while he talked to his friend. When I finally interrupted he attempted to send me the waiver link apparently but couldn't figure it out. Instead of trying to figure it out he just walked away back into the gym with out saying a word and left me standing there for 10 mins until I decided to leave.

Toxic management. Gold's Gym NC capriciously closes their facilities expecting you to drive an hour in bumper to bumper traffic to a lesser, over crowded facility. I was asked to sign a lengthy contract and was not told the facility would close a few weeks. They will NOT let you out of their membership after lengthy requests and breaking contracts terms with alternative facilities.
Whoever is managing NC Gold's Gym has clearly architected a dysfunctional organization, disabling the staff, & front line managers. Third party payment outsourcing is incompetent and unable to know the contract terms. The staff and 3rd party Peak Performance org are empowered to do nothing. STAY AWAY FROM GOLDS GYM.

4/2024 When the new owners took over we were hesitant because it seemed to be a bad change from the beginning. Not only have they continued to attempt to charge us even though we canceled, the gyms themselves are just not what they used to be. The equipment is old, broken, and dangerous (see video), the gyms are dingy, they smell moldy, and there's a sad vibe in the gyms. We tried to check out both local Golds today, and realized it was a wise decision to cancel. When it was owned by corporate the managers and staff were more attentive, nicer, and involved. Everything seemed cleaner and the overall vibe of the gyms was much better. They also closed the third location in South Asheville and it was arguably a better gym, with nicer equipment and layout. Overall, it's just gone downhill. I'd recommend looking into smaller local gyms if you're looking for a good place to workout.

4/2019 Gold's gym is a perfect example of why it's a dying chain. I requested a 3 day pass to check out their facilities with the intent of signing up for a membership, I received a call to confirm my request and was told to go to the gym with my ID and speak to a specific person, and was asked for the time that I would be arriving.

When I arrived I was told that my ID would not be accepted because it was not from the state that I'm in despite explaining that I had recently moved and had not had an opportunity to change my ID, and was also told that the person that I was supposed to speak with wasn't even there because they had left for the day, Then I was offered A-day pass for the ridiculous dollar amount of $15 as if that were any sort of compensation for wasting my time.

I was getting free access to another gym, but happily pay to go to gold's gym on Patton avenue. The staff is friendly, the facility is clean, and there are plenty of machines. At times, there's a little too much chatting while occupying some of the machines, but there is no grunting and dropping of weights, which I welcome.

05/08/2023 Update - I'm still a satisfied member. The condition of the gym has held up over the last year. Jen and Monica are super helpful and friendly. now, if we can just teach the children to put the hand weights back in the (clearly labeled) slots, I'll be in heaven 🙂

01/27/2024 Update - okay, the honeymoon couldn't last forever. It was never officially announced, but rumor has it that the gold's gym on Patton has a new owner. Not necessarily a bad thing, but suddenly I'm noticing personnel changes - I haven't seen Jen, Edgar, Monica in awhile. Next, I received an email saying there would be a twice a year $34 charge (in addition to my monthly payment) to buy a new equipment and make other changes. It makes me ask: where does my monthly charge go if they have to start instituting special charges? Different equipment has arrived, but one of the other members said it was simply transferred from the now-closed Hendersonville road location. Suddenly the Wi-Fi no longer works for guests and the TVs are only on about half the time. Perhaps the Patton avenue location was on the brink of closing and changes had to be made? Perhaps the new owner wants to recoup his/her investment as quickly as possible? Perhaps the new owner has forgotten there are other gym options in town?

Still planning to be a member, but I'm concerned about the changes.

No one that I have noticed has yet posted about the maintenence fee that we all were just charged even though it wasn't in our contract before the new owners took over. How is it that an establishment can wrongfully charge your credit card for terms you didn't agree to? Says the Peak Rep. Furthermore, they failed to notify they were wrongfully charging your credit card. Said they emailed, however I never recieved an email (checked all locations). I have contacted Peak, the only way to even do business with this gym if you have a membership with them, they said verbatim... the maintenance fee wasn't in my contract to dispute it. I disputed the charge. The same company that told me to dispute the charge denied my request for a refund. So shady. We need a better gym. Planet Fitness is too far away and I'm not going to the YMCA. Don't even get me started on Gold's new app, can't even get logged in... 🤦🏼‍♀️

Used to be a great gym. Very close to me. Everything went downhill in 2020 when the pandemic started.
Since 2020 they never went back to 24hr operations which was very convenient sometimes for late night gym + sauna sesh.
Since then they never opened their pool area that included sauna, steam room, hot tub and pool. And in the beginning they used to feed me with some “we’re just waiting for the green light to open it from the governor”. Even though Fairview was already open at that time.

And on top of that the price went up, even though they don’t provide as many amenities anymore, but it’s a chain I understand.

Recently decided to go back and check it out again. I was very happy I left them in 2020. I don’t think they did any updates on their equipment, some of it literally needs to be replaced, very old. This time they told me they’re not even planning on reopening their pool area, and overall it feels like it need some renovations inside. I don’t think they updated anything since they bought rush in 2014.
And also it was a headache to leave them in 2020, I had to fill some forms for some reason.. and even then I remember they were still charging me. I even had to go there, they checked and confirmed I’m no longer a member. So I just told my bank to block their transactions.

2 stars, but 1 extra star for the good memories.

This is a great gym, all the one star reviews are about stupid things like people not knowing how to actually cancel a membership or things like not letting your daughter use the bathroom, none of them have anything to do with the gym itself, it is a very good gym, plenty of equipment, staff are very attentive, never had a problem, equipment while old, has kept its effectiveness to this day. This gym is great, don’t listen to the other reviews as they have absolutely nothing to do with the gym itself.

Friendly staff but this gym is in desperate need of TLC. Asheville has three gold’s gym and this one is most neglected. The equipment is old and worn out, same equipment that was there when I started working out there 10 years ago, when it was known as “The Rush” only to come back last year and see the same old equipment, in contrast the other two locations have mostly new equipment. Be careful in the locker rooms as the maintenance will mop the floors and sometimes not put up a wet floor sign, I’m really afraid this is a lawsuit waiting to happen. The sign out by the road is crooked and looks like it is ready to fall into the road. They started renovating the pool, sauna, steam room right before they were bought out and now they sit empty. I was told the renovations would be complete early 2021 but the facilities are still closed. Only the East asheville location has an operating steam room. West asheville needs a good gym and this one has so much potential.

A nice gym with a full complement of equipment. The staff is friendly and the cleaner is constantly mopping. I do wish they would more closely monitor members use of the equipment, since I've noticed more people recently not wiping down their machines after using them. In defense of the gym though, they are extremely short staffed and I could confront those not being respectful of the other members safety myself. This gym has been a lifesaver for me since it reopened.

Nice gym, clean, and friendly. I would have given it more stars, but without tje pool, steam room, sauna, and hot tub it doesn't really offer anything you can't get from a strip mall gym, or even tje free gym in most apartments.

Wife signed up for a membership, she went in and the place sucked, she's canceled the membership multiple times and they keep taking money out. They are thieves with broken equipment who lie and say you can cancel any time. They're awful, do not sign up for a membership!

If I could give this a 0 stars I would. I been a member of this Golds Gym for 3 years. During covid I rarely attended the gym due the the change in hours, and the Lady’s gold and pool being closed. However I kept my account because I enjoyed going when it was not busy. I recently moved out of state. One month before I moved I called to cancel. One of the front desk team members specifically told me, because I was a month to month, the day I cancel is the last day I can use the gym and there would be no fees associated with the cancellation. Because of this information I waited to fill out the cancellation request until my last day in town so I could use the gym until my move. The front desk then informed me of the 30day policy. When I did reach out to management, via email, it took several days and a phone call to finally get a response. They informed me the miscommunication I received from their team member was not written down on my account so they would not waive the 30 day notice, because I did not have proof. As a loyal member of their gym I am frustrated with the lack of concern that their team is misconstruing the policy cancellation to members to receive an additional month of payment. I also am concerned that I have already been billed for one full month as of the 11th and they are planning to charge me again on the 25th. I am not sure how this makes any bit of sense. I 100% would not recommend this gym based on this experience. I wish I would have used anytime fitness instead, specifically because they allow you to use all of the Anytimes in the country, whereas with Golds you can only use the gyms in Asheville with your account.

I have not had access to the gym for over a year, i had the option to put my account on hold for several months ending in april, i ended up cancelling my membership all together, but Golds Gym felt the need to charge someone impacted by covid $39.99 anyway because they have a "30 day cancellation policy" which i would be understanding about if the gym had not been closed for months and months, they did not uphold their portion of the contract i made with them, therefore i should not be held to a 30 day cancellation. My cancellation date was submitted earlier than the 30 day window, but Golds decided to wait a few days to finalize it so they could get one more $40 payment for a service i have not used in over a year...im glad to see that you treat your customers of 10 years so well...keep that up!

They need to chill out on the mandatory masks. Also open up all the equipment. Covid has a 99% survival rate. Plus we are all adults and know how to stay 6 feet away from.one another. 🙄

I was in town for a month and purchased a weekly pass to workout at this gym. Great experience, good equipment, very clean and covid compliant. I’d become a member if I lived in Asheville and will be back next time I’m in town.

This place was awesome when it was first remodeled in 2009 or 2010, back then it was called the Rush, everything was nice and new but the years haven't been great to this place. I recognized some of the same exact equipment from ten years ago. It's a decent gym but could be better.

The wife and I have been going to this gym the last couple months and it has been very clean, safe, and a great atmosphere to work out in so far! We signed up for the tri pack which gets you started with three sessions with a personal trainer to get you started. Well worth the extra money for people like us that didn't really know where to start. Every staff member I have encountered is super nice and helpful!

I also just had the gym resume charging me after not communicating to me that they were opening back up. This was on an expired card so they also charged me 20 fees each time they tried to charge it. This is the worst business practice I have ever seen. They did not send any official notifications and said they sent emails. Those emails probably went right to my just folder. I would not recommend them to anyone ever based on this shady business practice. They have threatened to send me to collections if I didn't pay. Believe me when I say I will report them to the necessary agencies.

they continue to take money from peoples accounts even though they did not follow the state mandate on when to reopen the gym then once you cancel your membership they’re still going to charge you another month because you have to give them 30 days then they’re going to charge you the yearly membership even though you didn’t get to use the gym for more than half the year they’re all about the money they don’t care about the people they don’t care that people are not back to work and can’t afford the extrass

Golds gym charged my account and refuses to refund my money even after providing several doctors notes proving that I am going through treatment and cannot work out due to the global pandemic. Instead of just saying they would not refund me they continued to tell me that my doctors not needed more details. I went back to the cancer Institute on several occasions getting all of the doctors noted ...jeopardizing my health and wasting thw doctors time. After they could no longer dispute my doctors notes they decided to tell me they are not refunding anyone for any reason. I have been a golds gym member for over 10 years. Im sad to cancel my membership but this is a disgusting way to treat customer.

At this writing, Gold's Gym is engaged in straight-up thievery. (A) They resumed charging members monthly fees in September without informing them. (B) They are flat-out lying and saying they informed members in a September 3, 2020 email that this would be the policy; the email includes no such information. (C) They say that as a matter of corporate policy they are refusing to refund these monthly membership fees to people who aren't using the gym during a pandemic, such as myself. (D) They say they're enforcing a 30-day notice on cancelling your membership, meaning you'll be charged *again* if you call or write to cancel.

I recommend you contact your CC company and have them dispute any past charges and block future charges from Gold's Gym.

What kind of gym doesn’t do day-passes?
As if non-members have a higher chance of carrying COVID-19 than full-time members.
You’d think they’d take every penny they can get, while still enforcing safety practices, considering they’ve filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy.
This is why Crunch Fitness is winning.
Ridiculous.
