I’m very disappointed with the way my YMCA membership cancellation was handled. On 8/13/25 at 2:42 PM, I called to cancel because an injury prevented me from working out. I spoke with a woman (unfortunately I didn’t catch her name) who said she would take care of it. I never received a confirmation email, but I trusted it was processed.

Fast forward to 9/16/25—I was still charged $40.90. When I called to fix it, staff admitted the cancellation hadn’t been completed and only refunded $34.67, not the full amount.

This feels careless and unprofessional. If you decide to cancel here, double-check everything in writing or you may end up paying for a membership you no longer use.

Customer service response is deplorable. Kenny at the front desk would benefit from customer service training. Using certain phrases like “as I said before” and phrases that align with not being able to recognize a customer’s concern should be avoided. I’ve been a member of Hayes - Taylor for 15 years and am seriously considering canceling the membership based on unpleasant experiences with Kenny and other staff.

I been apart of the Ymca for 6 years are moore when I started going to Hayes Taylor it was beautiful place to go; now I see somethings happening; that make you wanna go somewhere else; all the experience and pleasant team members; that brought sunshine and a loving atmosphere; has been let go; and they are bringing into people who don't wanna work, young Caucasian girl set on her behind the entire time she was suppose to be working ; on her phone, they want fix the leaking roof, they want fix the light in the elevator; machine been tore up since I started no effort to fix a thing; one week we had two snakes lingering on the inside on the exercise machine, then some people come they want even wipe off machines when they get there wet self off the machine, what the world; now go down town; to that Y, are horse pen roadnand look at all the new machines they even have nurses there to help the people. I had a very disappointing experience over the phone with the receptionist, Kenny, at Hayes-Taylor YMCA. As a senior looking for information about membership and non-membership options, I expected patience and professionalism. Instead, I was met with a condescending and unwelcoming tone that felt unnecessarily hostile.

When calling a community-focused organization like the YMCA, especially one that serves many seniors, I expected kindness, understanding, and respect. Unfortunately, this interaction was the opposite and left me feeling disrespected and hesitant about pursuing a membership here.

People are quick to complain but never to show appreciation. Been coming to this Y for 5+ years. Had a good experience of signing my daughter up for youth soccer program 3-4 yrs old after internet registration was not available. Smooth process and the employee who helped was great. Thank you! Overall good gym and friendly staff. Their pool is pretty massive, my kids love the frog slide. Barber park being right next door is a huge plus. Hope to see this site expand and thrive more.

I have been a member since October of last year. I came in person to have someone removed off of my account and when I check my bank statements three months later, that person was still being charged on my account so I talked to the lady in membership about it and she came up with no solution And I offered to cancel my plan so I did so she didn’t try to accommodate me in any kind of way or give me any options to stay as a member I would not recommend this YMCA. I recommend the Brian family YMCA Downtown .

I love everything about this daycare program! Everything! My daughter has flourished since being in this program! She comes home everyday excited to tell me what she learned and who she played with. I enjoy the professional relationships I’ve gained with the staff members. One of my absolute favorite things is learning that this program is teaching my daughter how to regulate her emotions. They are teaching my daughter about proper handwashing, nutrition, how to make apple sauce, sensory play, gross motor play, etc. My daughter knows the days of the week, how to spell her name, her numbers, her colors/shapes, she’s learning about time, seasons, etc. The school even helped with potty training. The staff communicates well and sends daily updates. The meals are nutritional. My daughter has enjoyed all of the field trips she’s went on and has learned so much! I am so grateful to have found this daycare program. So grateful for all of the staff at this facility! 10/10 would recommend.

Have been very disappointed lately, with the steam room, sauna, and pool only operating intermittently! The steam room has been down for quite some time, and the sauna was down for a while, then operating again a week ago, and this past Monday it was down again!? I use the pool about three times a week, and yesterday the staff is saying the heater in the pool is not working correctly, so the water is cold!! Not good for folks with arthritis at all!😔
Also, I put in a request for the stools in the women's locker room to be repaired, because I almost fell. That was one month ago, and they still haven't been fixed!?
There are definitely good things about this location, but perhaps they need to look into additional staff in maintenance, or even new staff that can do a better job!

My kid plays during soccer season. We wasn't able to attend her last game last week due to conflict with a prior engagement when the game time changed. We just wanted to Thank Coach Tim for motivating and pushing Sydney. They was a GREAT fit, he pushed her and gave her so much confidence!! I think this season was the best she's ever played. I love the fitness area , the pool and the classes. Everyone always greets you with a smile , and after a while it just feels like family. Marcy is amazing .. she’s motivational , kind and I’ve never seen her in a bad mood. Her classes helped me get into a routine after I finally decided to focus on my weight loss goals. Melandie is high energy and makes sure you get a workout every time. Antonio, will motivate you whether or not he’s still your personal trainer and will push you to meet your goals .. whether it’s by telling you to run a mile smack dab at the end of your workout , or if it’s sending you a motivational speech to start your day. Travis answers any questions that you have with a smile and makes sure to greet you as soon as you reach the workout area. Diane will make you love and hate her at the same time … the dedication she has to step is unmatched. The Zumba instructors and water aerobics instructors are all knowledgeable and focused on their craft. All of these people I named plus countless others who we encounter every day are who make Hayes-Taylor what it is. A place to call home, a place to go for smiles , motivation, a push start into your journey and life long friends. I’m so happy to call it my home gym!

I grew up in Hayes-Taylor YMCA from the 1950's and remained a member to the present. While I will always cherish the old building at East Market and Dudley Streets, the new facility is always clean and first-rate. The staff is helpful and courteous. My four (4) grandchildren learned to swim at the new facility and enjoy it as much as I do. I strongly recommend Hayes-Taylor YMCA to persons all ages, individually or family.

I have to give a shout out to Jessica Fox, our water aerobics instructor. This class means everything to me. I take it very seriously! After my first class with Jessica Fox, I was hooked. 3 years ago, I had a bacterial infection from a dental procedure. I was in the hospital for a week. I had brain meningitis, sepsis and a spinal infection. I lost over 20 pounds. I haven’t been able to get my weight back up. However, taking Jessica‘s class has given me more than than just exercise. I love her drive, compassion and meeting people where they are. You can’t ask for a better instructor! She is my “She”ro (Hero)!

I love to line dance. The line dance instructor is very well organized. She works with beginners step by step. Even her advanced classes she still instructs them step by step while dancing. The teacher's name is Filashia.

The steam room hasn’t been open for a year an I never heard of shoes melting in the sauna an if it’s dirt on tennis shoes then it’s dirt on all shoes. So in a sense all shoes slides shouldn’t be allowed. Also if you’re a lifeguard an the chlorine affects your asthma then common sense says you can’t be a life guard 🤦🏽‍♂️
