My S.O. was injured here during a class. Before any care was given, while my S.O. was screaming in pain on the ground with everyone in the gym looking at her, a form was shoved in her face on a clipboard to garuntee absolvement of any responsibility from the business.
A year later and tens of thousands in physical therapy appointments not covered by insurance, my S.O. Is still fearful of climbing, with a lifelong injury and daily chronic pain she is self conscious about. But hey at least the business covered their butt right?

Additionally the level of judgement has pushed us to continually cancel our membership and rejoin due to no other local options. At this point I'm looking at designs for my backyard. I know a few buddies in town that have already done so.

I took my father to inner peaks to meet up with a group, and found out they were meeting on a different day.

Casey and her staff were lovely. They were all so accommodating and kind.
Casey helped my father who suffers from Parkinson’s feel comfortable for his first time climbing. Casey was encouraging and made him feel so safe, he was able to make it to the top! It made his day, and he will definitely return to the South End facility.

been coming to this gym (intermittently) since 2016. one of my favs and the reason i started climbing regularly. facilities could use a little update (i see the staff working so hard to keep up w everything but there's only so much they can do to maintain), maybe some fresh holds and a bathroom refresh. i saw so much money poured into the new NODA location and it seems like south end got forgotten. however! staff here is wonderful. shout out to june and taylor and hoyt and connor and doug. y'all make coming here a blast every time. the bouldering and top routes are fun and challenging, sometimes they feel a lil sandbagged but nothing wrong w that. thanks y'all!

If you’re even thinking about trying climbing, stop what you’re doing and GO to Inner Peaks. The South End location is my second home — part rock gym, part therapy session, all vibes.

The staff?
Friendly, encouraging, and actually remember you.
The walls?
Covered in routes that range from “spiderman-who?” to “I need to stretch more.”
The community?
Absolutely unmatched. It’s one of the few places where falling is part of the fun, cheering is constant, and strangers become instant climbing partners.

They’ve got three locations throughout Charlotte, but South End has my heart — with a great layout, bouldering and ropes for all levels, and perfect chill zones that makes it hard to leave.

Whether you’re training, unwinding, or just want to feel like a total badass, Inner Peaks has you.

Trust me — once you go, you’ll never look at a regular gym the same again. 🧗‍♀️💪✨

Really awesome place - it was my first time rock climbing in about a decade and they were really nice to me. They gave me the tour of the place, the what to do's and don'ts, and the general list of rules which is mainly for your safety and the safety of others.

I would definitely recommend - plus the people that do come here are chill.

I would not rate this establishment one star. I was excited to celebrate my birthday there, but my expectations for gym certification were low. The instructor ignored my disability and condition, refusing to teach me how to belay using an ATC. I prefer a grigri when venturing outdoors. Instead, the instructor argued with me timelessly.

The staff is amazing, no issues with them. The facility though is not maintained. This appears to be an allocation of monthly income issue. The $84 seems to be taken and pocketed. The rental shoes are mostly worn and slip off holds a lot. Need replacing. The fountain sprays the walls and at this point I know has growth behind the sheet rock. It has been like this a while now. The toilets need to be rebuilt. One has a broken chain and flapper so I know your water bill is high. Doesn't flush well either. 3 soap dispensers and 2 might work? Soap isn't filled enough. Use the money from the people to maintain the building. The holds are grimey too.

Not a local but find myself in town frequently and finally got to check Inner Peaks out - great place and looking forward to coming back here a lot. Haven't tried the ropes yet but for bouldering there is plenty of space and plenty of routes with more than enough for beginners but routesetting that is challenging enough to make projecting at V3-V5 very fun and rewarding. Great variety in the crowd and a good vibe, welcoming staff, highly recommended

have been climbing here for 3 years now. i have been an avid outdoor sport and trad climber most of my life and have been a guide for the last few years. today at inner peaks i was belaying a friend who took a fall above a clip at the very top that he couldn’t get to. He took a good whip and when he came down he decided to be done because he landed on a corner of the climb and hurt his foot. because of this, i got my lead pass taken and he was blamed for something he did. Was told I was “too far away from the wall and took in slack” yet when I asked to see footage they wouldn’t show me and obviously watched it, seeing they were wrong. throughout the entire process was treated rudely and disrespectfully by staff. really disappointed in this because it is my home gym and the fact that someone who doesn’t even probably touch a rope can tell me some crap that I do for a living is ridiculous. extremely disappointed and probably won’t be climbing here anymore. have been a fan of inner peaks until this moment. the female worker with blonde hair was especially disrespectful to me and had a huge attitude. I thought there was good staff here, but the more people I talk to i hear that there aren’t. Disappointing.

As a new climber, I love coming in and climbing here! Though there are a limited number of auto balays, the routes are challenging enough to have kept me entertained and challenged for the past 3 months while coming once a week. The gear rental price is very reasonable for non-members!

I officially became a member in August and enjoy the freedom to move between gyms as I live the same distance from both of the current gyms and close to the new one. I also very much love and appreciate the member only hours as it does get a bit chaotic once the doors open.

The community here is super inclusive and I truly have a great time every time I walk in the door. I can't wait to grow stronger as a climber and see where I can go!

Decent gym but the men's bathroom needs serious work. Many of the holds are polished due to old age. Setting is generally pretty straightforward. Boulder grades seem a bit soft, on average. Wouldn't recommend topping out on the top out boulder--there is a handrail that poses a hazard. Decent size crowd with several friendly people exchanging beta.

Love going here! i give it 4 stars just because i wish belayers were here. personally i hate the auto belays and im not certified due to pricing/dates not lining up. i wish they either had a class everyday to be certified or employees that belayed people! other than that i absolutely love this place.

Honest review incoming…

Okay so I found this place via Instagram reel and immediately knew I wanted to check it out next time I was in Charlotte. So I finally did so and first impression was “this place is huge!! This is going to be amazing” which was quickly dampened when I looked around and noticed only 7 auto belays in the entire 17k square foot gym. Tons and tons of top rope but for a chronic solo climber that’s not helpful.

Starting at check in - a 7 minute video is a bit excessive. Sign the waver and cover necessary safety when you do orientation. That’s pretty standard. This is first gym I’ve been to with an excessively long check in process for guests.

The staff was great though which is always nice.

Now onto the rest…I started with the auto belays and I’ve got to say I feel like a lot of them were realistically 5.6-5.8 but marked 5.10/5.11. There were definitely a couple really challenging ones but I would have liked to have seen better variety in difficult for the routes for the auto belay section. I think it’s extremely disappointing to walk in and see sooooo many routes only to realize there’s very very very few autos. This would be a huge downer for me if I lived in the area and had regular membership. I’m not a fan of belaying people myself due to how bad it irritates my shoulder so the fact that in order to have variety I would have to have another person there at all times is irritating.

Onto bouldering. I really didn’t do much of it because after 2 routes I realized that they are severely lacking the handles for getting back down for those who don’t want to be jumping 10-15 feet all day. Safety should be a priority and this is the first climbing gym I have been to that only puts 2 handles at the top of each bouldering route and doesn’t have them throughout for going back down. A lot of the rocks were awkward grips in my option for reversing back down and usually places have more of the handles so that once you finish route you always have solid grips for walking yourself back down. Maybe that’s not important to a lot of people but I don’t like jumping down more than absolutely necessary because it puts you at higher risk for injury and as someone who relies on physical activity for work and mental health I need to be extra safe and limit risk when possible.

There are a lot of positives I saw as well. The number of routes overall is impressive. It truly is a large facility for climbing compared to others I’ve seen. It has a gym that even day pass goers can use which isn’t always the case at climbing gyms. The facility seemed well maintained and I like the padding they use more than some others I’ve seen. Staff was nice and they had a large selection of harnesses and such in their store section which tends to be lacking at a lot of other gyms.

The experience overall was good but I see many areas where improvements could be made.

The most wonderful climbing community!!!! I started here as an absolute beginner and have now been going for three years. I regularly bring friends who have never climbed and love how beginner friendly it is. I had a kid and they're super kid friendly as well. They have frequently updated routes for both bouldering and top roping/lead climbing. The exercise room is well stocked and you don't need a separate gym membership if you get a membership here, which makes the rate VERY reasonable for how nice of facilities you get access to, especially if you sign up with the family deal. Best of all, they have frequent community events, are inclusive of all, and make it easy to make climbing friends. If you're new to Charlotte, new to climbing, have been climbing for years and want a solid gym, or whatever your reason, this is the place for you. I LOVE Inner Peaks!!

I've visited IP on and off for about four years. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and they're welcoming when I take friends who want to give climbing a try. Other climbers are helpful and encouraging, though most keep to themselves unless asked for help.

Parking can be pretty awful sometimes, and early in the year it can get over packed with people starting their resolutions. It doesn't help that we have limited climbing options in Charlotte.

The weightlifting area is pretty decent, and I enjoy the variety in bouldering and top roping. I don't visit too frequently, so I see the routes change often.

The wall in the photo can be a bit dangerous to climb if there are any children around. They'll often run through the "tunnel" without checking to see if anyone is climbing either side of it.

Overall, still one of my favorite climbing gyms

I love Inner Peaks for the most part! I spend a good bit of my weekends here even though I live right over the border in SC. I wish they would put the auto belays back on some of the tall walls. They have a very limited amount of climbing access for solo climbers (like 4 or 5 auto belays), and the short walls are nowhere near as challenging as the tall walls used to be. PLEASE put a few auto belays on the tall walls again!!!

There is an alarming lack of new member/first timer education here that compromises the health and safety of everyone in the gym. Today alone, I've had multiple kids run below me on an overhanging boulder problem on multiple occasions, told (unsupervised) kids to not hop onto the wall on an adjacent problem at the same time as other people, and have seen parents trailing far behind their kids while they run around.

Today, I also saw people who looked to be first-timers wearing outside sneakers, and then at some points no shoes at all while on the walls. There's a ton of potential here for rolled ankles and broken necks.

I'm all for climbing accessibility, and I actually do love that more first-timers and kids are engaging with the activity and welcome them to the gym, but accessibility should not compromise safety. Charlotte isn't denver/SF. People here need more education than elsewhere, and the management here (not the staff) need to recognize and enforce that.

Just because there are no other gyms in the area doesn't mean IP is allowed to not have safety standards for newcomers. The standards for more experienced climbers are pretty robust, but they're not who they need to be worrying so much about.

The last time I was here about 8 months ago and the auto belays were on the 60ft walls. Now they are only on the 30ft walls and oh man were the grades off! There was only one route worthy of a 5.10 rating and it was labeled 5.12a. No joke, there was not a single other route harder than a 5.8 even though they were all listed 5.9-5.11. The bouldering was ok, but super crowded.

Fine gym, lots of routes, but their rope routes all seem notably over graded. They have a ton (like...dozens) of "5.10a-5.11c" routes set, but the handful I climbed felt between 5.8-5.10.

Route rating is an interesting enigma - they have grade response cards on some routes and I was surprised to see so many clients agreeing that routes were what the setter suggested. Didn't make much sense to me; the setters from my home gyms in Atlanta would rate most of these Inner Peaks route 2-3 grades lower. They have a 5.10a set that I would blindly rate a 5.7!

All of that said, the facility is clean, and has plenty of variety and interesting climbs. Great hours, nice staff, and you’ll get a nice morale boost from climbing there.

I have been to MANY climbing gyms as I use to work at one and have been a climber for 8+ years. This gym was smelly, the routes were okay at best, it’s absolutely overpriced. The yoga classes are sub par and the weight lifting area is a joke.

I have been to gyms that cost less and have state of the art facilities plus a nice weight lifting area and a plethora of classes to choose from in private classroom areas included in the membership. This place is honestly not worth it unless they lower their prices.

Cool gym. Out-of-towner who travels a lot for work so I like to try out local climbing gyms. I mostly stick to bouldering, but I did try out the auto belays for a bit. The staff was prompt with the orientation. Lots of good routes to choose from. The holds could use a cleaning. Some routes were hard to distinguish colors because there was so much chalk. Will be back again when I'm in Charlotte.

Can't keep their auto-belays routes up even before the recall on auto-belays. Be careful giving these guys your credit card information. My husband asked if they could ship it back to us at our expense, he was told no they don't do that. My husband explained that he wouldn't be back in the area again until mid June as we live in Charleston and they told him they would place it in a closet and hold it until he came back to get it. We just arrived and it is nowhere to be found. The attendant even stated he remembered seeing it, but was unable to locate it. They didn't even offer to replace it.

Had lots of fun, day pass is nice if going to make use of it time wise. There were 4 tall auto belays & 6 upstairs shorter ones. They weren't as crowded as I thought they might be on a busy rainy holiday Sunday , especially considering how many people in the place. Most were bouldering! Beginners 5y through adult felt satisfied and accomplished.
Annoying that even kids with experience not allowed to clip in & out (as we're used to at other climbing places), so constantly bugging us 2 adults to clip them in &out.
Only real downside was the smell, really hits you as soon as you walk in & doesn't let up, pew ew!

First off not enough parking, second over priced membership, third poor diversity of roots, and some of the most inaccurate root ratings I've experienced in 15+ years of climbing. Lastly, apparently unlike any other gym I've ever been a member of. They run membership charges BEFORE the 1st day of the month. So you can't cancel your membership the the last few days of the month, no you have to do it well before the month begins. Scumbag move by a already not with it gym.

Also, manager/assistant manager (not sure some power hungry type guy) got upset because a few of us were in the lobby chatting and giving a gift out to a coach, entire thing was like 5 minutes. It was so ridiculous and he spent more time going over that we should rent out a room then we actually spent in their lobby lol.

Out of town visitor. Appreciate their attention to safety. Loved the variety of routes. Layout of gym is amazing, climb vibe was approachable, and routes were true to grade. Would recommend upgrading a lot of the holds / cleaning them though. So chalked over you couldn’t tell the color on many. They seems pretty well used. Would definitely come back though.

Wow if only we could give zero stars we would. Walked in tonight and it was horribly smelly to the point of sickening ... I'm talking crowd-sourced, repulsive and very strong body odor in such high intensity to the point that I had to walk right out the door. Seems as if the A/C was broken -or they were trying to save money. Not to mention the nasty stinky attitude we got from the person working the desk. Used to be good but...

I’m new to climbing and I’m in love with this sport! So far, I’ve visited 5 climbing gyms so far, and this one is the best so far.

Several auto belays, mainly geared towards intermediate climbers. So much wall space to climb and there’s bouldering as well.

The bathrooms have showers and they were clean. Friendly staff!

I have endless good things to say about this place. I joined 3 weeks ago and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. The social aspect is incredible, the staff is lovely and helpful, the resources of rentals and random little things you might need, the gym, the free classes, there’s so much to love. Also, the hours. Opening early and staying open late has been soooooo wonderful so that I can use my membership to the fullest

Great climbing gym with very knowledgeable and helpful staff. Very comprehensive safety training for top-rope belaying. The route setting on is a little inconsistent, but there seems to be plenty of routes for all climbing levels!

Great climbs, well set up. Needs a little bit better ventilation because chalk fills the air.

The test, as everyone says is ridiculous and needs some common sense intervention from people who actually go outside and climb. Who tf cares what side of the rope you climb on?

I love climbing and this gym honestly makes me want to quit indoor climbing. The staff is rude to the level of insulting. It just isn’t fun to be here. I wish someone else would bring a better gym to central Charlotte and I would never step foot in this gym again.

Just left this location. It looked like it would be really fun, but unfortunately the website hours don’t match the actual business hours so we weren’t able to enjoy it. I normally wouldn’t write a review, but the staff member at the front desk was incredibly rude to another gentleman who came in at the same time as us who also thought this location closed at 10. Instead of apologizing for the inconvenience, this staff member proceeded to dismiss all of us and argue that the Google hours are correct and that we all were wrong even after being shown the website it’s incorrect hours. She could definitely use some training in customer service.

Visited here while on vacation visiting family. Super fun and great staff! Had a good variety of boulder options (slabs, overhangs and I even found a couple traverse problems) and we had a lot of fun on the auto-belay routes as well. Definitely recommend filling out the waiver before hand since there is a thoroughly informative video you have to watch first.

I started rock climbing in ohio a year ago and went here for the first time. It was awesome. Those 60 foot walls that allow you to hang completely upside down at the top to cross between walls is amazing. I just wish I didn't live so far away.

The staff was cool and helpful. It was extremely busy and they all worked together to corral the chaos and get everyone on the wall as fast as possible. While being aware of the need for safety

I came in having never climbed before and learned a lot and had a great time. I can't speak from the perspective of an experienced climber, but if anybody is reading this because you've never tried climbing and you're thinking about starting, please do yourself a favor and give it a try. The staff are really friendly and welcoming (thanks again Jason!), and they'll tell you everything you need to know to get started and feel like you belong.

The day pass and the membership are both great deals. The facility is clean and appears to be very well maintained.

If you're on the fence, give it a try.

I don't post too many 1 star reviews, but man this place was really disappointing. I think one of the most vital parts of climbing is the community. And this gym just lacked it. The staff at the front desk was the most rude people in general I had encountered. Like if I were a Karen it would have gone south real quick. But honestly, she was so rude to me and my group. Addressed me as if I were stupid, and even when I tried on shoes and knew there were too big (I'm a climber I know) she acted insulted for telling her I needed a smaller size different than what she gave me. That was only one of several bitter interactions she had with us.

I would say the gym itself has a nice range of problems geared towards all levels, so that's nice. And they have top outs and other things some gyms don't have.

Lastly, I am skeptical of the cleanliness because this is one of the worst smelling gyms. I know it's a gym, and I know how we climbers smell. But just about all the gyms I've been to including the super small ones in a garage basically have good ventilation and cleaning. This gym lacked both.

Their rental equipment also looked sketchy. Would not recommend.

This place (although it’s not stated) fails you for lead rope climbing unless you are a member. Of course they will deny it, but for this reason I will no longer be visiting or becoming a member. Gym is nice overall, but if you want to lead climb I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Me and my brother traveled an hour to climb some where new on a rainy Monday. Once we get there we explain we only want to lead climb (knowing I would have to test since it was my first time visiting). They had me do the top rope test first, so I showed them I could tie a knot and which side the climber should be on etc. and then they handed me a ATC device an told me to set it up. I explained to them that I have only used a grigri (which was on my harness) and feel very comfortable with the grigri not the ATC. And well he showed me how to use it and told me to come back tomorrow an redo the test that I could not climb sense I didn’t not know how to use his ATC.

The gym looked well maintained, cool looking routes and for the most part friendly staff. I just think they need to accept grigri as a training device and not fail someone for not wanting to use a ATC. They did refund me but the manager and owner would not come out of the back to dress the situation or even hear me out.

Facility seems nice but I’m not sure who’s running the place. Showed up on a Sunday and they were setting routes for an event the next weekend, but the only 40’ auto belay route available that was the speed route. Another auto belay had two routes but had sections missing 🤔
Update a month later: three auto belays on the tall wall have a combined two routes set, one of which is the speed route.
This is a nice place with nice staff that is in need of management, or maybe just route setters. And definitely an adult to check the music selection.

I was looking for a gym to actually train for outdoor climbing. If you enjoy climbing indoors and are only looking for rotating resets, then they are able to give you that. But if you are seeking a dedicated training area, this place is unfortunately behind the times.

Been to Inner Peaks before, went to a different location. Couldn't find my name in the system, that's OK. Received a pretty nasty attitude from one of the employees, Aaron, about it when I mentioned that I had watched the safety before. Uncalled for. Probably will return to original location, didn't appreciate dismissive condescending attitude at this location.

Great location with awesome climbing walls. As someone who doesn’t have much experience, the process to rent gear, watch a short educational video, and to climb was all incredibly simple. It’s certainly for all skill levels, and they have unassisted climbing walls where you just hook in and start climbing by yourself with the auto belay systems. My brother had his own belay devices so we tackled some other walls but there is tons of options to choose from. Staff was helpful and the facility was clean and a great place to spend an afternoon. Highly recommend!

I have been to Inner Peaks South End a few times. Most recently I had a less than positive experience with their poor customer service. The short of it is that my daughter and I, me with 20 years of indoor/ outdoor lead experience and her with a year of competition lead climbing, were failed in our lead test. Without going into detail the employee lacked judgement. I get safety. I'm all for it. I worked in a rock gym as an instructor for heaven's sake. When I appealed to the only other employee he let us lead "for that visit". I emailed my feedback to the only email available for the gym. No reply. Not a word. Nothing. Crickets!
Unrelated to my poor customer service experience, the routes that I climbed there 5.9 - 5.11, were boring and unimaginative. Like they just slapped holds on the wall and made them a little smaller to increase the difficulty. Where is the creativity and problem solving?
My advice, if you are a local and/or a beginner, go ahead. Otherwise you can save your money and head up to Cliff Hangers or another location.

The rock climbing/ bouldering experience was amazing and fit all experience levels of our group. Because we are from out of townWe called ahead to see if we needed reservations and was told no. We came with a party of 10 adults but only 5 participated in climbing. The others stayed at the front desk lounge area where there's seating and watched from afar. Staff (Melvin) greeted us and walked us through orientation and safely prepared us for our climbing. The experience quickly shifted on our way out of the door. The manager (Emma or Emily) who had just come in shift after our 2 hour climb inappropriately approached our party and asked "Who Coordinated this?" Our group thought she was referencing our matching shirts. But she was referring to the size of our party showing up on a busy day without a reservation. When we dug deeper she told us that her staff said a large party of 10 showed up and overwhelmed them at the front counter. In a more private conversation we let her know that we did call ahead . Moving forward Managers here should clarify policy and gripes with their staff so that we could have been given the proper information ahead of time, Instead of addressing your guests. What is more insult to injury is that there were 2 other participating parties of 5who showed up without reservations. Iknow because we had friendly conversations. The atmosphere was amazing among the guests. The other groups were not addressed the same as us, this moves me to believe that discrimination may have been at the root of Emma/Emily approaching our group.

Amazing experience with the rock climbing however, staff employee EMILY/ EMMA (Manager on duty at 3pm on 03/12/2022 was beyond rude, disrespectful, and discriminated against a group of black women. We called ahead to make sure we needed reservations and they said NO however, EMILY/ EMMA rudely approached us while we were walking out the door about our party of 10 when ONLY 5 of us participated! She truly waited for us to finish our activities to say we needed to call to host a “party”! Every other employee check us in, took our money, provided us with materials to rock climb with no issues. Be careful if you are of color when visiting this place. Employee Melvin treated us with the upmost respect and continued to check on us throughout our day with no issues!

Good setting. WAY better than gyms near by. However there was no one to give us a lead test on Sunday. Paid the day pass but our option was limited due to this as we had to stick with bouldering. It sucked. Told us to come during the week or call ahead for lead test. As I have a membership in a different gym, that is not kind of applicable... I enjoyed the climbing otherwise.
