I have tried to learn some yoga multiple times over many years. I never found a teacher to help me at my level (most elementary). I came to Judith's mixed level class in my mid 60s with concern for my aging balance and strength. In addition, I have had searing neck and shoulder pain for well over a decade after an hour or two on my motorcycle. Judith is quite skilled at running a mixed level class. I have begun to learn, and after a few months with her, I have been almost pain-free on multiple cross-country motorcycle trips.

Strengthen your abdominal muscles and your body supports you! In a recent class, Judith taught me poses to connect diaphragm breathing and core strengthening. As Judith says, “Zip Up” and feel good and strong in all of your poses.

Yoga is life giving. Not until I was 69 and retired did I get involved (2010). The flexibility and balance have made a huge difference for me. A fall down the attic stairs a couple years ago would have been much worse had I not been working on core strength. Judith Valerie is an outstanding teacher. She provides the detail and variety to help each student find their own most needed practice at any particular time. I strongly recommend Judith Valerie as your yoga guide. She cares about each student!

I have studied yoga with Judith Valerie for more than two decades. Whether in studio or via the convenience of ZOOM, because Judith herself is constantly learning, she generously offers a fresh and personal approach to all of her teaching and my body, mind (and spirit) learn something new in every session. She inspires us to incorporate yoga into our daily lives both on and off the mat! Even though I am in my mid-80’s, I feel that I owe much of my strength, flexibility, bone health and positivity to the practice of yoga. THANK YOU JUDITH!!!

A day after one of Judith's classes makes me feel like I have the waistline of Scarlett O'Hara. I moved an hour away from her in -person class and still make the drive whenever I can. Her joy is infectious and she focuses on your well being, mind, body & soul.

I have never really done yoga, but when Judith’s name popped up on INTERPLAY’S leader page, I decided to try it out, in the comfort of my own living room! I’m so pleased with how my body feels doing yoga!!💗 I love her pace, her quotes of affirmations and her insights on instructions! And her loving kind voice!

Update: 25 years of yoga with Judith. Judith has gone with the flow (pun intended). Zoom yoga classes are nice especially since you can participate without leaving your living room as long as you have a PC but we’re back to in person class on Wednesday nights which are always always great as there is interaction with the instructor. Judith provides thoughtful, caring instruction and demonstrations. Try a class, you'll enjoy and benefit from it. Judith's class has has helped me become more aware of my body. I've noticed over the years that my posture has improved as have strength and flexibility. Yoga also has the excellent side effect of being calming and centering.

I've known Judith for about 20 years from our work together in the Triangle's first Interplay group. For the fall of 2024 I signed up for her midlevel, in-person yoga class. She has a comfortable vocal delivery. She starts and ends the class with few minutes of relaxation and centering time, stepping back from the world to be entirely present to our yoga practice. She sometimes invites us to help direct the focus for the session. I particularly enjoy how she circulates the room offering to correct our postures and how to use various accessories to make postures easier and safer.

I am 75 and have been taking yoga classes with Judith Valerie for the past 35 years. I don’t even want to think about what kind of shape I’d be in today had it not been for her ability to make yoga such an inviting, comforting, uplifting, inspiring, strengthening, adventuresome exploration of my own life and body. I am so grateful for her dedication throughout the years and I continue to look forward to class every week.

I have enjoyed Judith's yoga classes for over 10 years now. She takes the time to create a community on her Zoom classes as well as her in-person class. She has a way about her that brings a sacredness to everyday moments while also cultivating light heartedness with practical tips on how to not take ourselves too seriously. She offers and demonstrates the largest range of pose adjustments I've ever experienced with a yoga teacher. She makes chair yoga as noble a challenge as maintaining picture perfect poses you could find in a magazine. She can really do it all, and explain every detail behind it (makes for a great Zoom experience). Definitely the best yoga in Raleigh, in my honest opinion.

I've been studying yoga for many years, and when I arrived in Raleigh a couple of decades ago and I looked for a yoga teacher. I was fortunate to find Judith Valerie. Judith has found that important line between helping her students be mindful about the limits of their own bodies and at the same time offering us the chance to develop our capacities. She's funny, responsive, and creative in setting a tone at each class that removes the stresses of the day and promotes our finding a center of calm and relaxation. I highly recommend her.

Judith does a great job with Zoom yoga classes. She's been a lifesaver during the pandemic and I still enjoy her gentle yoga classes. Her natural way of teaching makes practicing enjoyable and beneficial. I hope you'll give her classes
a try.
First review:
I've been taking yoga classes with Judith for several years now. It's the only exercise program I've ever stuck with and I think most of it is due to Judith's ability to instruct and be so helpful with the poses. I look forward to the classes and Judith is always warm and welcoming. She has a way of making you feel comfortable in your own skin and in your own body. She constantly gives you tidbits on what the poses do for your body, internally and externally. She gives us ways to make the positions more difficult if we want to stretch ourselves. I've had other yoga instructors, but Judith is my very favorite. I plan to get my husband to a class one day and I know she'll make him feel welcome and at ease. Thank you, Judith!
Update on 7/31/21:
Judith Valerie is not only a professional, friendly, patient yoga instructor, she has become my friend. I trust her to help me get what I need from her classes. She manages to teach many different body types and fitness levels without making anyone feel self conscious. Her class has made a positive influence on my well-being.
She kept her classes going by using Zoom during the pandemic and she did a great job making us feel welcome and still part of a group.
She's the best!

I retired near the end of summer and it has taken me a bit of time to get my new freedom figured out. During this time, Judith's yoga classes thru Zoom have been there to help keep me centered. What a great Zoom yoga instructor she has become! Music is one of my favorite parts and she has made sure we have good music. Judith is patient and kind, as well as professional and knowledgeable about yoga and what's good for us. Please give her classes a try. You won't regret it!

I love Judith's teaching style! I am newly retired and wanted to focus on my health and well-being. Judith's Gentle Yoga classes help me do just that. After a Zoom session with Judith, I always feel balanced and capable. She regularly asks for students' input on future sessions. During class she is interactive but not too much so. The perfect yoga instructor, in my book.

I have been practicing yoga ( along with my very young 80 year old mother) with Judith for well over 14 years. Though in- person classes pre pandemic were ideal for correcting body and pose postures, Judith seamlessly transitioned to zoom classes during Covid so her students could stay engaged. I recently gifted a private lesson to my mother. Judith arrived with a lesson plan catering to our needs and we had a lovely hour of one on one attention with this outstanding yoga instructor. She is truly the very best. Treat yourself to a private ....such a nice way to revitalize and focus in the comforts of home.

I have been a student of Judith’s since January 2020. I started in a live class that moved to Zoom with the pandemic. Her classes, interwoven with yoga, meditation, qi flow, peaceful music and more have helped me transition through this difficult time. Participation in her class leaves me with a sense of peace and relaxation. With her guidance, I feel that my yoga practice has improved. Though I have moved from the Raleigh area and am no longer able to attend Judith’s in-person class which has just restarted, I am able to continue to enjoy her teaching through Zoom. I highly recommend Judith Valerie Yoga.

I have studied yoga with Judith for over two decades, in studio and for the past two years on ZOOM. The ZOOM classes are so convenient time wise in that we do not have to waste time in traffic to get to the studio. All we have to do is get our props, lay down our mats, take a deep breath and relax. And, we remain relaxed after class as we do not have to travel to our homes.Judith also gifts us videos to keep our yoga minds and bodies in shape in between ZOOM classes. I credit my flexibility of mind, body and spirit to the practice of yoga and to Judith’s knowledgeable, encouraging and inspired teaching and her ever fresh approach. Always bringing us back to ourselves and the moment while stretching and strengthening our spirits and bodies.
Yoga is vital to my well being and, honestly, were it not that Judith offers classes via ZOOM, I would miss the fresh approach she brings to every session.
Thank you Judith!

I have been taking classes with Judith for many years. Since the pandemic hit, her zoom classes have been especially beneficial to me. I am able to join from wherever I am and to keep up with my practice. In addition, she has generously offered class recordings and some videos addressing specific areas of practice for us to use at any time. The practice of yoga has been especially valuable to me as I have aged and have undergone two knee replacements. The rehab process was greatly accelerated by the degree of strength and balance I have achieved with yoga. While I do miss the in-person class experience, at this point in time zoom yoga is providing a valuable opportunity for me to continue with a guided practice. Judith is a gifted teacher and does an excellent job of making a remote yoga experience both convenient and rewarding.

I have been taking yoga for years with Judith but have especially enjoyed her Zoom classes and feel they have strengthened my commitment and improved my practice - taking it to a new level. The flexibility Zoom offers and participating in class in my own home has saved time, offered more classes, and added relaxation and meditation time. I now practice with Judith at least three times a week and enjoy greater flexibility, strength and mental health. Judith is a joy and Zoom gives me greater access to her! Namaste:)

The professional quality of instructions offered on Judith's Zoom classes is wonderful! Each time I take a class with Judith there is at least one moment during class where I feel so good and so grateful to have a body. Her teaching methods are exceptional in how she creates a space in class that fosters a positive inner-dialogue between my thoughts and my body's abilities. Even during the more rigorous poses there is a language of kindness and gentleness that comes through Judith's clear and concise instructions. She is a masterful teacher.

2022 update: Judith has been offering classes on Zoom during the pandemic. For me this has been great! When we are out of town, it’s still possible to attend classes — it doesn’t matter if you are physically in Raleigh, or not. It’s wonderful to enjoy a yoga class with Judith in the safety and comfort of your own home, wherever you are. Just roll out your yoga mat, grab your blocks, and sign onto Zoom!
I have been taking Judith's Yoga classes for years and would highly recommend her. I started out with Gentle Yoga, and was not in good shape, I'd had back issues. However, even in the beginning, I felt better at the end of class. Over time, I found I could do the poses and hold the moves longer, that I felt better, lost weight, and my body looked even better. I moved to a "More Stretch" class which is designed for more serious Yogis, but still suitable for beginners, as Judith often offers "gentle" variations, so you can make the class suite you. If I can do it, you can do it! I feel as if I have been transformed! Besides the physical benefits, I found that my spirit and mind were calmer, and more serene. The North Raleigh Location at Temple Beth Or just up from Crabtree on Creedmoor Road is very convenient and spacious. Namaste!

Judith Valerie is the best yoga teacher I have ever had. When I lived in Raleigh full-time, I took her class in person for about seven years. But when my husband and I moved away, I had to give it up. One of the few good things about the pandemic was that she began offering her classes online via Zoom, so I could take them again, to my great delight. Judith cares deeply about her students. She offers a range of classes so that regardless of how experienced you are at yoga, you can find a class that suits your needs. Besides the physical exercises, I appreciate the deep relaxation at the end of each session and the emphasis on mindfulness at the beginning and during each session. I could not recommend Judith's classes more highly,

I am in my mid-fifties, and am fairly new to yoga. I’d tried a few ‘beginner’ group classes before, but I always felt lost and unsure of what I was doing (one instructor said “you’re really scaring me with that pose”, and moved my arms, but never told me what I was doing wrong!). Then I found Judith Valerie Yoga. Honestly, her teaching methods, overall enthusiasm and dedication to her students is beyond what I ever expected to find. I’m taking her “Gentle Yoga” class, and it’s exactly what I wanted. Right away she made sure she knew my name, and gave me ‘extra’ attention to ensure that I was doing things properly - all while never making me feel singled-out (in a bad way), and somehow never taking her attention off all of the other students. She’s really an awesome teacher. Where I once felt awkward with yoga, I now feel like I can truly enjoy the physical & mental benefits of the practice. Thank you Judith!

After an injury to my knee the Doctor told me it was 50-50 if I would need surgery to find relief. I opted to try the least invasive method first - physical therapy. Within 15 minutes of my first PT session, the therapist said - "You won't need surgery, we can get you corrected with PT. The Doctor just didn't know how strong your hips are." During the next three months of PT she asked what it was that gave me such strong hips - because honestly, you would never know it looking at me. I told her I have been doing yoga with Judith Valerie for years. Her parting words upon my release: "Don't give up your yoga - it saved you from surgery and a long road of recovery."
So THANK YOU, Judith!

Throughout the years I've found yoga to be a great tool in combating anxiety and helping me to better recognize and connect with my emotions and how they affect me physically. The yoga classes commonly offered at gyms do not even begin to compare to the classes offered by Judith. I had attended "gym" yoga for years and found the teaching often lacking but I wasn't sure why. I participated in workshops at a couple of yoga studios looking for relief from back, neck and shoulder tension, as well as, plantar faciitis. I found some of the instructors more militant in their style than soothing and my aches persisted. I attended Judith's class looking for a fresh perspective. I wasn't sure that one night per week would be effective but she had a class time and location that suited me well so I went for it.
I have never regretted that decision and have been attending for over a year now. I find Judith's classes have a wholeness that was lacking at the gym classes. The gym classes were a timed program of postures that infrequently changed. I would often find myself looking at the clock hoping we were near the end of the hour long class for the very few minutes of relaxation offered. If I came to class exhausted, I often left exhausted and mildly soothed.
Judith doesn't just lead you through a practice, she teaches you how to develop your own practice outside of her class. With every posture, she coaches you to look into the moves, to focus your awareness on how your body and muscles respond to small tweaks of each movement. As your awareness grows, your spirit grows for you begin to understand why you are broken and see hope for reducing and eliminating some of your pains. I had struggled with a stubborn case of plantar faciitis for 18 months and after one 8 week session with Judith, it was profoundly improved. By the end of the 2nd session, it was gone.
Throughout the 1 1/2 hour class, she successfully blends mindful meditation and thoughtful awareness. I am always surprised when the time is up and the relaxation (still my favorite part) is so soothing, it seems to seal in all the peace we've generated throughout the evening. Her class truly elevates me for the remainder of the week as I consider my posture at work, my stretches afterwards and the patience and consideration I'm inspired to share with those in my life.
I know that Yoga styles and teachings are very personal but I would highly recommend Judith's class for anyone seeking a new perspective, a better understanding of their body and perhaps some enlightenment. She is a great educator with a very soothing style.

I attended Judith's classes for a year. She is calm, very knowledgeable about her art, and is able to work with students of all levels and abilities. I looked forward to her classes, and was always energized and centered after each session. I highly recommend her as a teacher.

I have been taking classes with Judith for over 5 years. I have learned so much from her and never stop learning. She is insightful, funny and supportive. I am definitely more flexible and have strengthened areas of my body that are hard to reach in the gym.

We had just moved to Raleigh in January 2014 when I joined Judith Valerie Yoga, based on superb reviews and references and I was not disappointed. Judith is earthy, passionate, professional, and very supportive, going out of her way to ensure you get the utmost from your yoga practice. She is interactive, watching, correcting, teaching, and suggesting alternative poses where needed. After a bone break, I found her strengthening yoga sessions to be most helpful in restoring my flexibility, balance, mobility and muscle strength, entirely eliminating the need for physiotherapy. I highly recommend Judith Valerie Yoga.

Judith is a wonderful yoga teacher. I have learned so much from her. She is calm and patient, and works with every student to his or her individual ability level. If you have thought about trying yoga, or already have an established practice and want to learn more, I highly recommend Judith and her classes.

I have been practicing yoga for more than 20 years and Judith is by far my favorite instructor. She offers a safe environment where you work at your own level and ability. No matter what class you are in (Gentle or "Level II"); she manages to allow you to keep your individuality while still leading an entire class. Her classes touch on several different yoga traditions, which keeps the classes not only interesting and informative, but also provides for a well rounded experience.
I highly recommend her classes!

Exceptional teacher. Experience matters...Judith has over 30 years of training and it shows. She has been my teacher for about 5 years. Authentic yoga is much more than just poses to promote flexibility. It is a philosophy and lifestyle. With Judith you will become fully educated about yoga--how and why it works to promote strength, flexibility, relaxation and an inner sense of peace. You will not be disappointed, and if you stick with it you will experience long-lasting benefits.

I look forward to Judith's class every week! Judith is always attentive to make sure you do the poses correctly to get the best stretch and avoid injury. She also suggests variations so everyone can participate from beginner to advanced. I can tell I am getting stronger every week and the stretching and relaxation at the end of each class is divine. Judith has the perfect relaxing yoga voice, really hypnotic.

I have taken yoga with Judith for 10 years now, I enjoy how she guides us through the various poses. Yoga with Judith always relaxes me, but also strenghtens my body.
I have tried other teachers and have always come back to her.
She is great, I recommend her to anyone young and not so young, flexible or not, in or out of shape.

I moved to Raleigh from the Southwestern US about five months ago. I had a great yoga instructor there and had been taking yoga for 3 years. I am so lucky to have found Judith! I had tried other area instructors and was not satisfied. Judith practices a gentle form of yoga which is perfect for me. Since I have resumed instruction, I find my flexibility returning and aches and pains disappearing. Thank you, Judith!

I started taking classes over a year ago and I appreciate Judith as a Yoga teacher more each time. She is a great role model. Her explanation include not only the physical exercise, but also the "Yoga for the mind" - which is equally beneficial. My entire body feels great after each class... and I like the atmosphere. She does take the effort to remember students names. I hope very much, that she keeps teaching YOGA.

My daughter has been attending yoga sessions in The Triad for years and invited me to join her once. When I returned to Raleigh I Googled Yoga and the first one I called was Judith's JVYoga. I went for one introductory class and signed up for the next 9 weeks and have continued since. Judith provides a Gentle Yoga session which suits my 64 years and has worked well in restoring my range of movement and peace of mind. I very much look forward to my Tuesday sessions, it is never repetitive as she always has several variations on traditional themes. Helpful and eliciting questions and comments she always asks for "requests" in tuning her sessions to those areas of the body that the group may have issues with. Although coming to Yoga late in life I find it has helped me in extending myself in regular exercise and, although rarely brought up in the sessions, staying on a healthier diet. Thank you Judith.
