One of the better YMCA locations I have been to in recent time. They open early and stay open late so that was a plus. The turf inside is a good feature also.
Staff was friendly and the facility looked well taken care of. I wish they did have lights on their outdoor fields though.

I’ve been coming to this Y for years and anytime there is an issue (and there’s always an issue) they never have a resolution or try. There is one person on the staff that knows how to do most things and if they’re not available then good luck.

I Really like this place. Leadership has changed and some new faces. i don't know them well but they seem to be doing a great job. The exec director I believe was out picking up trash and greeting people as they walked in. That was really nice to see. The building is a little confusing with the renovations but the progress looks good. Onlg reason I didn't give a 5 star the locker rooms needs more work tho some changes were made.

This facility needs to be shut down. Especially when it comes to pool area and them charging high prices but a review where a man’s whole car was stolen when he left his keys in a locker… NOW THAT SOUNDS LIKE AN INSIDE SECURITY PROBLEM FOR THIS YMCA…. FIRE AND REHIRE ALL NEW STAFF OR RISK SHUTDOWN

Today I am a NEW YMCA Member! My fitness goals are daunting & I was nervous but Miss Frances Brown made my joining process so smooth & pleasant that I feel GOOD about beginning my fitness journey. I hope you will give her a monetary raise 💵 and/or public recognition for her customer service skills & professionalism. Thank you again Miss Frances!!!

I bought two guest passes to use the outdoor pool for $20 each. There is not one place on the website that says I cannot use the guest pass on the weekend for the outdoor pool. When I asked for my money back a manager said there was no on one the entire facility that could get me my money back. It makes no sense why I cant use my guest pass for the outdoor pool. I have never been to a ymca and for $151 i should be able to see the facilities and use the guest pass to access whether or not to make a commitment. At the very least the website should explicitly state that guest passed cant be used for outdoor pool access and if its not the staff should be trained for refunds. Im honestly disappointed but not surprised.

Knowledgeable and helpful staff is not what you're going to find at this location. The updated site sucks. No one wants to help. I've emailed, left msg. This past year has been the worst experince ever! You should be able to make changes to your account online. You should not have to come in only to be told you have to go back on the very site you're having issues with. They can learn a thing or two from the Harris branch.

Racist terrible staff if you park there an hour or 90 minutes early. They will called the police on you saying private property and lie and make the police come harass you. It’s some lady there doing it. Very disrespectful. Disgusting attitudes one of those supervisors there when I spoke to him about it I’d advise you to leave this YMCA alone, very bad customer service and malicious intent with calling police to get people in trouble for no reason or harassed and make their day negative

I had the worst experience yesterday. The staff is truly incompetent and incapable of doing their job correctly. For context I am a nationwide member and travel a lot. So typically anytime I go to a ymca outside of my city for some reason it’s such a lengthy process for them to check me in. Yesterday the lady at the front desk was asking me questions and she started asking more questions than usual, so I said “ Is there something wrong? I’ve been to this specific location all the time and they always let me in. I don’t know what the problem is. “ She then said she didn’t know what was going on and there wasn’t a manager at the moment so she would let me in. 10 minutes into my workout her and the manager come to get me telling me I have to leave and everyone is staring at me like I did something wrong. The manager (Allena or Ellena I can’t remember her name I believe it started with an A) then lies to me saying she spoke to my home YMCA and says I got kicked out of the family plan I’m in ( I’m in college so the account holder is my mom) She told me that I needed to grab my things and leave the facility. She also told me that next time I wanted to come in it would be $20. She didn’t allow me to explain myself or the situation. So I told her that I can call the ymca myself in her office to verify if that was true or not. I called my home ymca and verified that what the manager had told me was a lie. All they said was that there was an issue with the card on the account and it was expired but as soon as it got updated they would be able to process payment. I got the card payment updated and they had no choice but to let me back in. I believe they were trying to make it seem like I got kicked out of the plan so I could buy my own membership with them. It was a very humiliating and uncomfortable experience. As there were multiple people in the gym who saw me get kicked out and the staff tried to make it seem like I could not afford a gym membership. I felt discriminated against.

Men's locker room is completely dirty. Lockers are riddled with trash and dust. Faucets don't work in the showers. Steam room is moldy with tiles completely broken, and bench seats completely broken! Sauna has broken boards. I brought it to the attention of the front desk and they said they're working on it, but that was last year..

Best Y’s in Charlotte are Lake Norman and Dowd. Keith isn’t the cleanest as you can see in the video. They have physical training unit attached to the gym and on specific days of the week they have high school athletes taking up the multipurpose area where you have the squat racks and turf pad. The gym also doesn’t let you drop heavy weight on the Rogue platforms that are specifically designed for weight dropping on them. So if you’re a cross fitter wanting to do max weight cleans or deadlifts this isn’t the gym.

Our experience at this location was horrible. A staff member by the name of KATRINA was extremely rude and unprofessional. Very disappointed with this location operation policy and customer service. This branch DO NOT HONOR the nationwide statement that I particularly asked about when signing up or in general agreement to become a member. We are retired military family with young children visiting the Charlotte area possibly moving here. On this hot memorial weekend the closet YMCA offers a water park. Called several time to inquire about the pool policy. No answer only voicemail. Only information listed is just the water park hours. When I arrived turned away because im not a Charlotte resident. What a joke! My very unhappy 11 year son hope for the pool distoyed. Keep your money and frequent another establishment. Go to a place that doesn't discriminate and honor their policy. False advertisement!!!

Today, we went to the pool at the YMCA Keith Family branch with my two children. I had put our belongings in a locker. When we returned from the pool, I saw that the locker door was open. My car key was in my bag, and I couldn't find the key. I went outside and couldn't find my car in the parking lot. In short, someone stole my car by taking the key from the locker in the YMCA changing room.So this is the security in YMCA Keith family. we go to this please with my families, but Thieves are prowling around here.

Today Feb 9, 2024 I’m presently in the weightroom. You might want to tell the group that does sport specific training to ease up with throwing tennis balls in the gym. It serves as a safety hazard and/or it is a good way to lead to altercations and discrepancies. This message from a YMCA member. Thank you.

There is still "strange" behavior there, I will consider it as a family place where we try to respect each other privacy with self constraint. During 30 minutes, there was people talking loudly, laughing almost yelling at each other to do jokes, starting 1 feet from me, then they moved close to others people. This was actually YMCA employees. 😶

I’ve been to three different Y’s in the area, and this is my favorite. I really wanted to give five stars, but two things held me back. But please read to the end because there are positives.
1. I think it is unreasonable for half of the pool to be closed during water aerobics when the class doesn’t even take up but a fourth of the pool when they’re in session. With the physical therapy I have to do, I need to be able to walk down the stairs, and I take up about two feet of space around me.
2. EVERY staff member has been wonderful EXCEPT the water aerobics teacher that made a big deal of getting out of “her pool” when her class was in session.
The life guard that was there at the time was nice and every other one I’ve come into contact with was wonderful. The pool manager was very nice to me and told me how to reserve lanes since I’m a nation wide member and can’t book online.
Front staff have been great.
It’s sad that one employee and experience can make someone feel attached.
My suggestion is, if you travel, no matter what the pool schedule says, still call them before you come. You never know how each Y handles pool rules.

I do like this Y for a home gym but the way they have scheduling with the basketball courts is unacceptable man. Stopping me midway through my workout just to let some kids run around after I JUST stepped on the court is so annoying. I understand there are circumstances where stuff is unpredictable but you guys have everything else written down on the board in the front. I’m thinking I have at least an hour to get shots up but 15 mins into it, here come these unprofessional counselors. It’s annoying. Have everything scheduled. And if it’s not on the schedule and there is people on the court, those people as a MEMBERS WHO PAY MONTHLY should NOT have to MOVE for campers when they have their OWN areas!

I just left from one of my scheduled strength and conditioning workouts roughly around 3:00 pm today, August 24, 2023.

However, on my way out I stopped at the desk to turn the padlock back in that I used and retrieve my license. One of the girls working the front desk asked me, “do you have mouthwash”? Ok cool, I don’t mind answering that, so I shook my head yes. But, she then proceeded to ask, “are you going to spit it out or are you going to swallow it”? There was another female standing there and she just started laughing. Not sure what is/was on the girl’s mind to prompt her saying this but I think we can agree it’s completely unprofessional and unacceptable. I have been visiting this YMCA when in town for over a year now and this is a first. Not sure her name or who she is but have a talk with your staff or whatever needs to be done that your people are not out of order like she was.

Today being 11:07pm August 25, 2023 is when I am writing this follow up after going to the Y earlier today at 7:50pm. I briefly spoke with a manager Latischa (sp?). After me telling her about what happened she responded that they need to work with their employees on how to interact with members and people who workout at the Y. She also said that they should be mindful that other people will interpret things differently that they say, than what they really mean and that she can understand how to me, such a statement could sound inappropriate. However, Latischa’s first response to me telling her what was said by the employee was “wow, yeah she shouldn’t have said that.” Without prolonging this review I am expecting that some kind of corrective/disciplinary action take place and likewise with the other girl who was by her side at the time and just started laughing. This is a reflection of character, discipline amongst other things that contributes to an already negatively plagued society. Maybe I’ll be back to this Y or not but at this point I don’t have too much if any conversation for anyone outside of checking in and obtaining a padlock for my locker, if I’m there. When I’m in-state and doing business at this particular part of Charlotte this Y is better as my actual address is in Ballantyne. But if I feel I need to I will just be driving elsewhere to workout. But this shouldn’t be. I need to be able to peacefully get my workouts in.

I have a YMCA Nationwide membership for my daughter and I and over the weekend I had to attend to some business off W.T. Harris, so decided to visit the location and take my daughter to the pool afterwards. Was told by the employees that the outdoor pool was restricted to "members only" and that even with a Nationwide membership, we were not allowed in. First time I have ever dealt with exclusivity and I have visit several other YMCA's. According to the Nationwide membership guidelines online it states: "Ys should allow nationwide members access to services typically offered to full-facility members." So what is going on here?

I had high hopes for the YMCA and our family this summer, but there were several unacceptable circumstances. I typically do not write reviews, but want to share this information, particularly for other parents.

- Childcare was extremely unreliable. The system was often down and we signed in on a clipboard. I was also turned away often when childcare was too full.
- It is very uncomfortable for parents not to be permitted to walk their children to the childcare room. Their system is for a worker to come and pick up your child...I can understand this, but there were multiple times in which only one worker was present, which means they consistently left children ALONE to come pick up/drop off others.
- The pool staff were quite rude. This pool is very crowded, so I took the opportunity to take my 10 month in the water during the Safety Break/Adult Swim. The lifeguards proceeded to yell at me for being in the water with a child during adult swim. This was the only safe time for me to swim with her, as there were so many older children in the shallow end (throwing balls, jumping, etc.) when it was not Adult Swim.

As a mother, I highly caution fellow parents from visiting this YMCA.

My family enjoys many activities at the Keith Family Y. My boys attended the summer camp years ago and participated in sports. Now they love working out here and the teen nights. My husband also works out here, and I love Zumba, Xtreme Hip Hop Step, and yoga classes. Positive experiences with staff. The only obvious issue I’ve noticed is they could use updated furniture in the lobby. I would recommend this YMCA.

Guys… Save you time and money. I used to come to this YMCA long ago. My son was meeting friends today to play basketball. Basketball was a cancelled which was fine. First of all the place is definitely not what it use to be. It is so ran down. The chairs in the sitting area are ruined. The leather is off completely in some area. Where did all the smiling faces go. I’m so disappointed. The ymca has great revenue coming in from the summer camps. There is no reason this place should look like this. Dowd ymca needs to give this Ymca some of its funding to fix up the place.

If you are considering their afterschool program, I would reconsider.

After School Program:
Where are your qualified, caring staff that supports each student’s development socially, emotionally, and educationally? Majority of the time I’ve picked up my child, I’ve heard individuals use profanity, and eyes more on their phones than watching the kids. Where is the engagement? If the kids were to be engaged while under your care, you could avoid more incidents.

I’ve spoken to other parents who are also considering taking their child out of the Y because of the lack of program value.

Gym:
Overall good could use newer equipment or overall newer design.

The managers Very irritating. Numerous members have repeatedly expressed their concerns about the steamroom. Manager appeared to hear the concerns at first but clearly has no intentions on real solutions. They go out of their way to avoid you. Members are complying with the rules of the steamroom but the system still is not operating properly. It takes 15 to 20 mins to come back on and when it does it doesn't get hot enough because it goes back off after a min or two. We then have to wait another 15 to 20 min to get that one min of little steam. The members are starting to go to other YMCA's for this amenity that they pay for. The steamroom is sooo important to many of the members here. The sauna is absolutely 100% awesome infact it works better than the Dowd Y. I understand that it takes money to run a facility but it also takes members.

Sharing my experience to hopefully spur action in the form of increased security. I visited my parents in Charlotte recently and stopped by this Y which I used as a kid. I left my things in the locker room for 30 minutes while working out and found my cash and all debit/credit cards stolen from my wallet. Staff seemed to admit this had happened more than few times recently and so they asked me to fill out an incident form and sent me on my way.

Coach Scott was my favorite coach, he is personable, mentored each young man on his team, held them all accountable for schoolwork and respect at home. Thank you for giving my family a safe place to have fun and get fit too! 😊

I have a son that just started playing rec basketball at this Y. He’s only 6 years old I put him in the program with the hopes of him learning the fundamentals of the game, because that’s what the YMCA stated on the site. Today was his first game you would have thought this was a College game. My sons team had 5 players while the other team had about 10-12 players. I was wondering why they didn’t split the team up to be even due to them only being 6-7 years old. This is what I experienced in other sports of young children. The coaches were not happy with how some of the children were playing. Again these are children!! So another parent pulled one of the coach’s to the side I want say his badged said “RP” and ask why is it like this. Our children at this age should be enjoying the game and learning not treated like College students. He stated that some parents wanted there children to play on a certain team which was the one with the 10-12 players. This makes me believe that what I’m paying for isn’t equivalent to what other parents that pay the same is getting. My thing is why isn’t this a random selection THIS IS THE YMCA not AAU or Duke. I feel all of our children at this age(any age)should be treated fairly and taught the game not treated like they’re playing to enter the NBA.

The Summer Camps are extremely over crowded and staffed by inexperienced teens who cannot handle bullying / conflict well and are not adequately supervised. My daughters asthma inhaler was lost twice and Supervisors were not responsive (it took almost a week) when I reached out to them because the group leader called the children in my daughters cheer camp “stupid and unable to learn” (they were 5-8 years old). Also, do not spend your money on theme camps as they only spend about 2 hours on the theme each day and the rest of the time the kids are outside with Daycamp. Daycamp children stay outside the entire day mostly on devices in near 90+ degree temps (even if a child is in a sensitive air quality group - with exception of around 45 min of swim time). I was disappointed as I’ve heard great things about Day Camp at other YMCA locations in Charlotte. Disappointed in the facilities/amenities as well as they are outdated and do not appear to be clean.

Happy with the gym and was happy with the facility until I enrolled for swimming registration for my 6 year old. Worst communication. I was made to wait for almost a month before they confirmed they had no instructor. Monika seems to be the worst lady and she's acting as if she's the only busy person in this world. If someone is looking for swim lessons for kids, please look for somewhere else...

We signed our 13 year old son up for Teen Camp, one of the weekly camps offered at the YMCA. The camp guide described exciting activities geared towards teenagers, pricing at $221 for that week. After sending my son two days and him returning with the same response (that NO Activities were done and they were just sitting around on their phones) I pulled him from the program. I LITERALLY had to speak to 3-4 Coordinators, Directors, etc...to end up with NO REAL resolve for us. The YMCA still kept all of our money without even offering to return a portion of it. All they could say was that they are looking into the situation, of course you are!!! False advertisement will only get you so far. We will never partner with the YMCA, nor will our money/word of mouth sponsor its brand.

I honestly liked and frequented this YMCA for some time when I was in grad school. When I recently visited, I did so without my usual bag. I forgot to lock my locker as it was in my normal workout bag, however I was visiting during an less busy time so I wasn’t concerned. After my workout I found out my keys were missing. Terrified I went to the front desk to report the theft, instead I found out that their staff had gone through my locker, since it was unlocked, and took my keys without my knowledge, to teach me a lesson. They didn’t leave a note in my locker warning me of not locking my locker or anything. They just took it. Had I left without checking with them I they would’ve most likely kept them. What a horrible way to “teach a lesson” as the front desk stated. Never in my life have I ever experienced a YMCA staff member be so rude, not to mention genuinely steal from me in order to prove a point. I will never visit this YMCA again.

I've paid for a YMCA membership for about 6 months at a different Y. I come down here to visit my girlfriend on the weekends. For some reason I don't show up under the nationwide membership that I pay for, not a big deal. I called my branch and asked if they could fix my membership and they said they couldn't because I AM a nationwide member. So each time I come in I have them call my Y, ask them to confirm that I am in fact a member, and they let me through. Until today, the man at the front desk says that he got "special instructions" to not call another branch to confirm memberships anymore. So he wouldn't let me through. I don't understand why a 7 second phone call can't be taken so I can use my membership just like any other member that pays. I just want to reach my fitness goals. Not paying for a Y membership again!

This is by far the dirtiest YMCA location I have been so far. The men steamroom stinks so bad... and the shower is like you're going to get all sort of germs...Very nasty. The equipement also is not really up to the level of other branches in Charlotte. I usually go the Childress Klein or Dowd.

The facility is nice. The security is horrible. They don't care that someone is breaking into memebers cars on a regualr basis in the parking lot. They have a guard on duty and all I have seen him do is play with his phone. He should be in the parking lot unitl the break in stop. You can count on your car being broken into there. About 1 -2 a week.

Pool area is always hotter than hell. Feels dirty and a bit tired. I did enjoy going.

YMCA is good. Not as clean or up-to-date as some other YMCA but it is not bad by any means. Would gladly go here every day.

Has the exact same layout of Siskey YMCA. Must be a cost saving thing or something. Anyways if you go to Siskey YMCA then you already know where everything is since it is the same building layout.

My main workout is lap swimming. I have been to a few other pools in the area and this one is my favorite for a few reasons. My main reason are the lanes are wide enough to have two people comfortably swim next to each other in the same lane. I don't get that impression with the pool at Lake Norman and Harris (South park area). At the Lake Norman and Harris gyms you could have two in the same lane but it feels catastrophic. I tend to use the family changing room as the main men's room is too cool.

I gave them 1 star because they were helpful getting a discount for my kids membership. Other than that it's been nothing but disappointment!! We were NEVER properly facilitated, my son's locker got broken into the 2nd day we were there brand new sneakers stolen ,wallet with money (less than 10$) ,and bank card!! Nothing done at all except WE filed a police report!!! No apologies or reimbursement despite I showed proof we just bought his sneakers! I'm very dissatisfied and disappointed!!! And so are the kids especially my son he doesn't want to go back

Used to really enjoy this place. But I'm getting very frustrated with rules they have in place but no one tells you about. Brought a guest on Sunday only to find out no guests on Sunday. No where was that mentioned when I inquired about guests nor was it on the sign. So when I brought my guest on Sunday it was very inconvenient. Not to mention that there we 5 people within a 10 minute period that all came in not knowing that policy.

Then was told my son could not play in the splash Pad area without me. Been going here for 2 years and they never said that to me. Had to end our time early bc I couldn't take my newborn out in the sun.

Please make rules available so that people can plan around them accordingly.

My son has been going to various camps there this summer. When the activities he did, for an extra $50 over the traditional day camp, did not match what the camp guide described, I contacted the YMCA and was told on 3 occasions that someone would return my phone call. It has been over a week now and I have not heard anything, plus the camp director's voicemail has been full for a week and cannot take any phone calls.
In addition, my son burnt his feet at the pool there on a hot day, when the kids were told to wait for their turn on the burning concrete; someone has yet to call me back on that too. If I cannot trust them to return a simple phone call, I can certainly not trust them with my son, so I am canceling the rest of the camps for the summer. Ridiculous, and sad that there is no accountability.

I signed up for a membership for myself and my two children after finding out how overpriced the daily rate was for the waterpark. We have only been here 3 times since I signed up and 2 out of the 3 times we have had horrible expirrences. The first situation the lifeguard was very rude to myself and my daughter because she was sitting near the edge where all the kids come out of the slides. She is a non swimmer and not allowed in that area but my 9 year old son was coming down the slide and she was wanting to watch him- she was NOT even in the water. Then maybe 5 minutes later the same exact lifeguard came up to us to rudely ask me if I had blown up her floaties, which I had, he then told me those were not allowed here at all. Both incidents were very rude and not necessary. Second incident: happened today in the pool area, I had to put my phone and wallet down on the chair to not get them wet, my 4 year old daughter who had on their lifevest was bobbing around in the water in the 2ft area. Within that minute timespan 2 of the lifeguards decide to kick water into her face to try and get her attention to ask where I was. Which I was standing right behind them and if they are so concerned with people drowning then why in the hell are you going to kick water into a child's face who doesn't know how to swim yet????! VERY RUDE AND VERY UNCALLED FOR. We will never be returning back here. These lifeguards are very young and have zero work ethics. Worst expierence at this Y and I will never ever recommend this place to anyone.

Gone are the days where the staffs (Mat) were so dedicated in teaching swim classes. Now the new coordinator (Moni) wont even get into the pool. they teach by walking along the swimming pool rather than swimming along with the kids. The suggestion given is to wear goggles to improve swimming so funny this one is turning out to be.

This YMCA is excellent, with a large outdoor and indoor pool. I highly recommend it. I have one complaint that they don't have a Jacob's Ladder machine but that is super minor. Everything else is great. If anyone reads these things can we get a hot tub too ;) ? !! But overall, amazing place.

I enjoy going to this particular YMCA to exercise. I find Laura, Vic and the staff in the gym to be especially helpful with any question or training issue I may have. They are friendly and professional. I don't have any small children coming to the facility, but they are very attentive to the children that are in the classes and always seem to be doing something with them. The facility is clean. The staff at the desk always courteous to me. I've been a member of several gyms and find this one to be the best! I've been coming here for years and it only gets better.
