Pretty cool course all par 3s and you can play at night since they have good lights. I have played here a few times with my friends and its definitely a fun course to get a quick round to work on your short game.

I recently checked out Knights Play Golf Center in Apex and had a great time. The 27-hole par-3 course is fun and easy to play, whether you’re a beginner or more experienced. The driving range is awesome, with lots of stations and lights so you can practice even at night. The course is well-kept, the staff are friendly, and the Pro Shop has everything you need. Plus, the Clubhouse Grill is a nice spot to grab a snack after your round. It’s a relaxed, local spot that’s perfect for a quick game, practice, or just hanging out with friends on the course.

Tee boxes are bare.
The fairway is overgrown.
The greens seem more brown than green. The driving range and putting green are in decent shape. The carts all need to be replaced.

Where do I start? How about the tee boxes, everyone loves golf until your teeing off of world war 2 trenches, the t boxes have genuinely so much dirt, sand and divots hitting off the team is like going all in on black, no clue where the ball is gonna land. Anyone wanna go to the beach? Go ahead and step onto a putting green at knights play where you’ll find your local sand dune. I could make a better green in my backyard, that’s how much it shows how lousy and straight up disrespectful the employees are, if you don’t call ahead for a time they almost shame you for it, and when you finally pay and go get a golf cart, well you’ll find Mr. Grinch handing them out.

Great spot if you just want to show up in pajamas, hit some balls, or teach someone the basics of golf. It’s a small and easy course, perfect for casual fun. Unfortunately, within the past year it feels like the upkeep has really slipped. The greens are in rough shape and the tee boxes look more like sand traps. Knights Play isn’t the place to go if you’re looking for a high-quality golf course experience.

That said, the staff is always very friendly, and the clubhouse serves decent food at fair prices. I’ve always enjoyed coming here over the years, but at this point it’s more of a driving range than a serious course. Trying to play full rounds here almost makes your game worse with the condition of the greens.

Yesterday was the third and last time that I will go to this course. The first two times were earlier in the spring and the greens were awful. Like golfing on the moon- craters everywhere, you hit a ball and it bounces across the green, just absolutely terrible, and they should be ashamed charging anybody to putt on those greens. It was like this the first two times I went in late spring and now it’s like this again in late summer. Don’t waste your money here and find another public course.

Very fun layout and top tier place to practice every kind of shot. Greens are in rough shape but they recently punched the greens so hopefully that helps. But let's talk about $28 for 18 with a cart on a saturday morning!! What a steal.

Just experienced the worst customer-facing service I've ever encountered. I thought the check-in guy was grouchy, but he seems like Mother Teresa compared to what I faced outside while grabbing a cart. That guy was a horrid, miserable human. Also, since I'm taking the time to share this, the course condition is also really bad - overgrown grass, weeds on greens and even a complete "bunker green" as shown in the photo. You can't expect Pebble Beach at this price, but I think they could do better. Kind of bummed since my kids are just getting into the game and thought this would be a great place to continue bringing them, but can't see us returning with the type of attitudes they have working here.

Me and my family had gone to this place to have a fun little day together. We went on a Monday, and the prices were half off. Their rude behavior and unkept green's are probably why they were. The front desk was rude, grumpy, and passive-aggressive, like he couldn't care less about being kind. Then, when we were getting our cart (we did 9 holes) this grumpy senior came up to us and yelled at our family for having a child in the driver's seat (he wasn't even driving, just sitting down for a second because he got a little warm from the sun.) He also got mad at us for having the child's golf clubs behind the driver's seat. Once we started driving to the first hole, the senior decided to hop in a golf cart and follow us to make sure the child didn't drive. Once we were on the course, we noticed the green's were sandy, muddy, and poorly kept. We also noticed a park ranger drive through the course and pick up two children and take them to the club house because they had also been sitting in the driver's seat, taking a break. We spent $40 today, but this experience was worth $4 in all. Next time my family and I want to have a fun day together, we will definitely be going to a different course.

Knights play is absolutely terrible. Tee boxes are hard sand with weeds everywhere. The staff and straight up disgusting to its customers. They have no mannerism or respect for anyone. Everytime I come here, there’s always something to complain about. But worst of all is its employees. They are absolutely disgusting and disrespectful towards their customers. Wish I could leave a negative star review.

Waited an hour and a half (as expected, not mad about that) just to find out they never called my name and skipped past my group (of 2), once I went up there and asked where I was at in line they told me they were only letting people with tee times use carts, and I could either walk the course or leave. Wouldn’t as bad had they made an announcement or at least called me up there to let me know. Won’t be back anytime soon

Came in with a party of 8 was unable to rent more than 3 golf carts. Went in and rented an additional golf cart due to my PARALYZED friend that needed a cart to get around the front desk guy was so beyond rude to me and my friend paid 58 dollars just to be stalked around the course by the rangers we ended up splitting party’s to give them what they wanted and they still were mad NEVER COMING BACK HERE EVER AGAIN. People need to stop giving this course a pass. The conditions of the tee box and greens are beyond awful. Nice driving range and and par 3. Driving range first…a lot of bays, the mats are mostly in good shape. It can be really busy. The one downside, they used to let you hit off of grass. I haven’t been able to do that for years. Maybe I miss when they open grass areas. The Par 3. Great layout. The course was mentioned in Golf or Golf Digest as one of the better Par 3 courses in the US. The one negative is the greens are really long and slow and I don’t think anyone knows how to fix a ball mark.

First time visiting this place. Love the idea of playing golf under the lights.. gonna rate this place a 4/5 only for the fact that the greens and tee boxes were not up to par like they should. I am glad that the spring/summer weather is coming so the tee boxes and greens can be aerated 👍🏻. Other than that it’s a good course to practice your short game and perfect your par 3’s.. will definitely comeback 😃

We have played Knights Play many times in the past and it’s great for my wife and son who are just learning to play. However, when we went to play this last time the course was in absolutely awful condition. Not a single tee box had grass. It was all just dirt. All of the greens were sand boxes and there wasn’t a smooth roll available anywhere on them. $18 for 9 holes with a cart isn’t awful and I wouldn’t expect a top notch course by any means. But this was almost unplayable. Putting was a joke. I should have taken some pictures but I was so shocked by the conditions that I just wanted to get through our round. Very disappointing!!

★ 3

Played here last night. Cost was reasonable. They were very accommodating in getting us out quickly, actually a bit early.

Love the idea of having a place to play golf under lights.

The downside, the greens were horrendous, the piles of sand on the greens that made it very interesting (not good) for chipping and extremely difficult for putting. Instead of piles of sand, they could’ve raked or dragged the greens to level the sand out a bit - properly top dress.

Overall, our group had a great time despite the less than ideal putting surfaces.

I do hope this place improves but I fear given the way the conditions are degrading, Knights Play may not be around much longer.

Update Fall 2024: I can no longer recommend this business to people because the greens are just... gone. It's just sand. They are charging full price with no warning about the conditions, and no communication on when it will be resolved, if ever.

I've heard rumors the owners are selling it and that's why they've let it go and are just grabbing as much money as people will give them until it goes through. I sincerely hope that isn't the case, but they need to address this because it is honestly so bad right now that I would call it unethical at best and a lot of other things at worst.

Original review 2021: I love this place, the only knock I have is they are often very difficult to get on the phone

Me and 2 other friends have been goin there practically every weekend for the past 2 years and it pains me to say that the course is simply in terrible shape and not even close to being worth the price of admission. The greens are a joke. I would give course a 0/5 if not for all the fun times we used to have there. I guess they just kept taking everybody’s money (they make an absolute fortune between that and the range) while spending $0 on maintenance and running the course into the ground. Seriously DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. Hope it gets better. They lost a loyal customer

I am a fairly new golfer and can get nervous playing around strangers and the staff have been really friendly and accommodating to let us play without being grouped up with others! I visit regularly because it's so close to my home. The best deals at KP are the range cards and players cards.

The range card gets you discounted range balls and there's a ball machine that takes them. You can just roll up, get balls and go to a mat without needing to go inside. Speaking of mats, KP uses mats exclusively. It used to allow play from the turf on one side of the range, but this hasn't been the case in years.

The Players Card is a prepaid punch card for rounds, that's discounted over the standard fee. There's also a frequent player card that you can get punched. After 10 rounds, you get a free 18.

The staff is always very nice. The grill makes a pretty decent burger and hotdog. They also have a small selection of craft beer in cans.

The value and convenience of Knight's Play is tough to beat.

Asked to play 18, the teenage girl at the cashier gave us 9 by mistake. When we got to the turn the ranger told us we only paid for 9 & to clear it up at the clubhouse. Apparently by the time we finished, they weren’t letting “new” tee times go so he told us we couldn’t finish up. So because their teenage girl made a mistake & we didn’t double check, we got shafted. How are we supposed to know the card they give us means 9 or 18 holes???

It’s a decent place to blast balls that’s cheaper than most other ranges in the area. Lot’s of mats, but not enough for as busy as it is. If you show up after 11am Fri-Sun or after 5pm on any weekday, you’ll probably have to wait around for a mat. They have a practice putting green and a rock-hard, chewed up chipping area, but it can be very difficult to get meaningful practice on either since it feels like they’re always swarmed with children’s group classes. It’s not uncommon to see several at a time spread across both areas with all their training aids laid out.

The course is cheap (especially if you walk), but you get what you pay for. The tee boxes are basically bunkers and all the greens are in poor shape. All par 3 and most are very short. If you’re a long hitter you’ll have a wedge in your hand for most of the day. It’s a still a good place to take new golfers.

Called ahead on Sunday to book a time for Wednesday morning. Was told by the gentleman on the phone a time wasn't necessary on a weekday before evening, and I could come out to be squeezed in anytime. Arrived Wednesday morning only to be told it would be an hour and a half + before we'd get to start. Course is in too poor of condition and over-priced to wait that long to get out. No clue why they didn't just let me book a time on Sunday, but whatever it's over now. Just wanted to share my experiences. Super disappointed, and not sure I will return.

I haven’t been to Knights play in over 10 years and was disappointed and how unkept it is. We went in Dec and not sure if it’s always like this or it’s because it’s winter. The green and the boxes need a lot of attention.
It’s a great par 3 golf course and hoping it will be maintained in the spring.

Love this place! 3 separate par 3 … 9 hole courses. Driving range, putting green, and chipping green. Golf store and small place to eat at also. Great place for all levels

On the plus side there are 18 holes and they are lit for night play and there is a nice driving range. And it is cheaper than lock bear. I'm. on the minus side. I played a dusk and some of the Lights are out on the course and so some of the holes are dark and if you're not a great golfer, bring a lot of balls. overall, it's a lot of fun and for 20 Bucks. You can't beat it

Nice, cheap, local course. Love coming here after work and using the driving range. Have played the first 8 holes a couple times and its always a good challenge, even if I loose a couple balls. Beautification is well kept and definite a great course to go to if your in the area.

Pro shop staff very rude , make arbitrary cut offs and make up rules on the fly. Some reason they think they work at a country club not a glorified mini golf

Open late but you should plan ahead. Driving range has a lot of bays! But the course can be packed in the evening. My go to choice.

This is a great par 3 course. I was very impressed with the pace of play. Did not feel rushed even on a busy Saturday morning. If you are in the area, this is a must stop & golf.

Went 'twilight' golfing for my husband's birthday and had a great time. Tee time was 7:40, and we finished 9 holes a little before 10 pm. It was surprisingly busy, so we did have to wait at a few holes for the group ahead of us to finish. Rented a cart no problem, borrowed some extra clubs for myself, and only had to pay $18- a person. It's not too challenging of a course, so it's definitely good for new players. It might be too easy for seasoned golfers. Good condition of the course, maintained well, even had 2 rangers patrolling the course. They do have a drive range, putting green area, pro store, and bar/grill. I will go back again for sure!

Has become too crowded. Can take upwards of 3 hours to play 18, often with 15 minutes wait at each tee. Too many large groups and slow play, which isn't enforced. Even the driving range is completely packed most days. Arriving on a weekday morning to avoid crowds doesn't help., It's packed all the time now. I like the course . Price is decent. But it's just become way too crowded. If I want to spend 4 hours playing, I'll go play a full size course.

Great place to practice or play if it isn't too busy. It's usually pretty crowded. The staff is excellent, the par 3 course can be challenging... Not many straight putts and most people don't repair ball marks on greens. The tee boxes are a little rough but they do take a lot of abuse. Nice place to unwind.

What an awesome par 3 course. Most par 3s I've played a pretty bad tracks but Knights Play is in gear condition, fantastic greens and 27 holes of challenging par 3 golf. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced golfer give this place a try! ( Oh, and you can play at night!!!!)
