I used to love this gym but that changed today. My guest and I was heavily disrespected by an employee at the front desk, this said employee was wearing one earring and an extra large puffer zipped all the way to his nose, we could barely tell what he was saying. He told us we were NOT allowed in the gym, my guest had a 3 DAY guest pass that had not been used before and he said “you cannot use that” we were left in an awkward situation and we turned around and left now I am planning to cancel my gym membership after this rude, condescending employee decided to ruin my day.

Gym is falling apart, men’s locker room a total disaster, sauna broken for over 5 weeks with no fix in sight, management does not care and does not prioritize fixing the gym , equipment constantly breaking and not replaced or repaired. Do not recommend joining.

This gym has so much potential. It looks so nice on the outside, but inside it’s a completely different vibe. It always seems as though the air isn’t on or working, the place is always messy/dirty, and the last time I went, I promptly left once I realized they didn’t have any of the wipes to wipe down the machines. NONE. I was utterly disgusted. The only saving grace of this location is that they have a ladies only workout room. That’s the only thing that stops me from going to the Rock Hill location all of the time. Rock Hill is cleaner, more lively, and seemingly more up-to-date. I just don’t understand why this location isn’t up to par with how much money they charge for a membership.

Spouse and I tried the 3 day trail, and this is my honest review. I appreciate them offering a trail. Unfortunately, we will not be joining. It is not clean, specially the locker rooms and sauna area. The men’s sauna is broken and in the women’s sauna they blast awful pop music. Would consider coming back if these issues mainly cleanliness was addressed.

As opposed to the negative reviews, I had a very positive experience at this LA Fitness in Charlotte. The facility was extremely clean, the sauna was piping hot, and all of the equipment was up to date.

Brian, the manager, has been here for about a year and has clearly turned this place around. Don’t listen to the old reviews — this club is now operating in tip-top shape.

I mean this place was the prime place to go in the past…..now it is a run down old dirty gym. The sauna broken, ac I think broken, machines broken, pool cloudy, cabinet doors missing in locker room, it’s just not well kept. I feel like they just don’t care anymore and the staff are always on their phone. Like all nice and shiny things they get dull. Maybe someday they will get their act back together.

I was used to an awesome LA Fitness in Jax, FL.
That one had an actual pool, not a joke pool (that nobody bothers going into). Their sauna is awful too, they were so cheap that the flooring is ceramic, which burns your feet if you are bare feet. Someone needs to teach them that sauna floors are wood. Besides, not a single water cooler in the changing rooms. Yes, these people made an LA Fitness facility with a fancy façade but were cheap on everything else. I already canceled my membership bc there is not a single LA Fitness near downtown Charlotte either. I drove 17 km to try this one and I was very disappointed. Bye LA, hello PF.

I’ve been a loyal LA Fitness member since 2017, visiting gyms across the country, but for the last eight years, I’ve been going to the only LA Fitness in Charlotte, NC, because it has a sauna. However, I’m fed up with the blatant disregard for rules and hygiene at this location. In the locker room, members are filming themselves with zero respect for anyone else’s privacy, often capturing others in the background without consent and likely posting these videos online, which is completely invasive. Even worse, people are walking into the sauna stark naked, sitting directly on the wooden planks with their legs spread open, ignoring clear signs prohibiting this behavior. The sauna is rarely, if ever, cleaned, making it a breeding ground for infections like staph, pink eye, or worse—it’s absolutely disgusting.
The staff doesn’t care. I’ve reported these issues multiple times, and nothing changes. Think about this: someone who doesn’t properly wipe after using the bathroom sits on a bench, sweating and spreading bacteria or fecal matter. The next person sits there, unaware, and the contamination spreads. These same people then go upstairs and use the gym equipment, which most members don’t bother wiping down, turning the entire gym into a hygiene disaster. Let’s not talk about the old and run down equipment since I’ve been there they have not added anything new or replaced clearly damaged tread mills it’s one of the most run down La fitnesses I’ve seen and it’s funny because it’s one the most affluent areas. I can see why there’s a wait list in Life Now gym in waverly because this place is a dump.

I was not impressed with this gym at all. I felt like I was pressured to renew my membership and get personal training. Even when I got personal training it was over priced and not very good. one trainer canceled on me multiple times and another was only there in the middle of the day during most peoples work hours. As a beginner to the gym, one personal trainer gave me workouts as if I've been in the gym for 6 months or more and this caused bad back problems for me since the workouts were to advanced for me. The gym is also extremely packed and dirty. Save your money and please go somewhere else. They are very unprofessional and inconsistent.

I’ve been attending this gym for a month and overall, I like the place. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, which makes a big difference. It’s a comfortable environment to work out in, and I appreciate the variety of equipment available.

That said, I think the gym could really improve when it comes to cleanliness and maintenance. Some of the machines are noticeably dusty, and the walking machines often have sticky handles—which isn’t ideal when you’re trying to focus on your workout. The ladies’ locker room also needs more frequent attention throughout the day to keep it clean and stocked.

I enjoy coming here, but I do hope they start prioritizing the upkeep and cleanliness of the equipment and facility. It would really take the experience to the next level.

So let’s cover the basics. Is it a gym and does it have gym equipment? Yes. Now, it’s not the cleanest and frequently the barbell clips are missing. Classes are also diminishing, especially for afternoon evening time. It does have a nice range of machines and dumbbells so if that’s all you need this place has it. I just wouldn’t put your trust in the water

TL;DR staff left and locked me in but it’s an OK nice club.
- Club is shiny and new. Way cool.
- No hot tub. Boo.
- Sauna never gets hot cause the door doesn’t seal. The door frame that stops and seals the door is missing. Hot air is leaking out constantly. Probably costing thousands of dollars a month to power the one sauna.
- Apparently staff doesn’t check the showers when locking up. I was taking a long one, then took my time getting dressed. It was 10:30pm when I walked out of the locker room. Everyone was gone. I thought about sleeping over just for the story.
Anyway. 3 stars cause it has a cool third story race track.

Lol not even going to lie, this place sucks. Started going here about a few months ago but I never used any other facilities besides the track upstairs and the pool. I recently went this afternoon (4/5) and used the free weights along with the sauna and showers and was extremely disappointed with the facility’s overall condition. The bathrooms and showers were in terrible shape, with bugs flying around — yes, actual bugs. The floors were messy, the showers were filthy, and it was clear that cleanliness and maintenance are not priorities here.

It’s unacceptable to pay for a gym membership and be met with such unsanitary conditions. I took photos to document the issues, which clearly show the lack of attention to basic cleanliness standards.

Another thing i’ve noticed is when you walk in all the trainers and front staff are just looking at their phones and not even checking people walking in or making any attempt at customer service. This place reminds me of what a gym on freedom drive would be like, not south charlotte.

Have been searching for a gym the 3 years I’ve been in Charlotte and I can say I’ve finally found one to call home. Warm welcomes from the staff give me a sense of belonging and fuel my workouts. The equipment and facilities are top tier in the area, especially for the price. Other gyms don’t seem to stay on top of maintenance and cleaning the same way LA does. The community is also accepting and I’ve even had a few members give me tips and tricks to fully optimize my lifts and cardio! If you’re serious about your goals, choose LA!

I am big on quality customer service. Each time that I visit the gym, the employees speak and are friendly. It is a clean facility. But do not sign up for personal trainings .. their contracts and auto renewals are designed to trick the client and make it hard to cancel.. they will make it easy to sign on the dotted line and make it harrowing when you want to cancel and quote the small print and waste your time .i wish i had been very careful.lesson learnt though.

leg extension machine from precor broken so they didn’t fix it just removed from gym but not replacing it because they said there are two other leg extensions machines however they are terrible so now you can’t work out your Quads muscles. All the
work out equipment is old. Everything in the building is original equipment. The building is like 20 years old. everything needs to be upgraded. The drinking fountain was leaking and they did fix it. However, when they replaced it, it’s not filtered water anymore. not all of the treadmills have TVs mounted to them and the ones that do there are very small amount of channels to watch. The restrooms are usually dirty and not cleaned on a regular basis. This gym just needs a total makeover.went to gym today 2/14/2025 and was on treadmill I noticed that all the windows needs to be cleaned. This building has lots of windows and all of them look dirty .

I signed up for their complimentary guest pass and unfortunately I won't join LA Fitness. The equipment is absolutely disgusting, filthy, rusty, and dusty. Really disappointed with this LA fitness. I’ve been an LA member for over 10 years, and have worked out at probably 10/12 LA fitnesses in my life. This one is one of the worst. Machines are old, and the broken once’s don’t get fixed for long periods of time. The water fountains on the main workout floor were broken for almost the whole summer. There’s literally not enough barbells for all of the benches & squat racks. How is that even possible? They cost $80 to buy retail. This is LA fitness there should be enough barbells for each bench and rack.
On Sunday, 10/6/2024, the gym was supposed to open 8am, no staff was there, didn’t open until 830 (members called mgmt and they gave the code to have patrons just let themselves in - no staff onsite). The men’s lockers, showers and sauna are usually gross. I showered there once, never again there was all these little flies flying around in the shower and it smelt like urine. There was a bottle cap on the floor in the men’s sauna for 3 weeks . Just shows they barely sweep. My wife pays 24.99, I pay 34.99 a month, we have the same access. I asked about my membership and getting to that price or the advertised price of 29.99 and they said no youre stuck with your membership unless you cancel and re sign up and pay initiation fee. Very rarely will you see staff / cleaning people on the floor cleaning equipment. It’s usually 50/50 that the men’s locker room will have paper towels stocked. I asked nicely about my membership price compared to my wife’s price and their advertised price and they shut me down so quickly which is why I’m writing this review. Being a long term member you are actually penalized by never being able to take advantage of a promotion .

They need better air conditioning - it’s always SO hot in there . In the summer especially, it’s hard to workout unless you wanna be drenched in sweat. You walk in and don’t feel much difference from the outside air and humidity.

So much wasted space. The machines are 30 years old and some don’t even work. Some of the equipment is so poorly placed you can’t even do your workout without blocking someone else.

I found myself trying to maneuver around other people throughout my workout when the team could just make some slight adjustments to make the experience better for everyone.

The lockers are disgusting and smell like dogs have been wrestling each other in them. There are broken soap dispensers and rust on the metal interior of the bathroom. I didn’t feel comfortable even taking a shower.

I could write 100 more things of how bad this gym is. Considering where it’s located you would expect much more from the LA Fitness brand.

We don’t go this location normally and we can promise you we will never be back after today’s experience.

Stay clear of this germ infested place and find yourself a better gym for your own HEALTH and SANITY

I started going to LA Fitness in Ballantyne in 2024. I still go when I have no other gym to go to, since it is close near my residence. There is always something wrong, first the sauna was not working for months, they say its fixed, you can often hear banging noises come from the machine, it does not get hot enough (like the La Fitness in Rockhill or other gyms). The pool heater is out, the pool is freezing. The equipment is dirty and several gym equipment is not working. Come on management, you can do so much better. All you have to do is network with some of the partner gyms and care more about the people that is utilizing and paying the gym membership.

Avoid this place. I recently ended my membership after about a year. The gym overall is terribly gross. Dust everywhere, equipment that's old, dilapidated and constantly breaking down (there was a leg extension machine that broke... they just got rid of it and never replaced it), and the men's locker room/bathroom hasn't been cleaned in months and always smells like urine.

Visibly when you walk in at first glance it's impressive. Three floors with a pool, indoor track and a movie theater where you can do cardio (I never used it). But once you start using the equipment and start paying attention... it's a rundown gym.

Very nice facilities, especially if you want a large pool, clean main locker room, a ladies only fitness room, and a walking track.

The entire place is surrounded by big glass windows, so the lighting is very good and gives the place a cheerful feel .

It also boasts a reasonably large free weight area with smith machines. And plenty of benches, too.

There are two heavy plate loaded leg press machines, a set of chest press implements, a nice heavy set of pull racks, and a few other machines of some heft... although most of the others are lighter duty.

The cleanliness of the workout area can be hit or miss, as is in the upper floor bathrooms. However, generally that is not the case.

Speaking of floors, there are three - accessible by elevator or stairs. There is a racquetball court and an area for classes on the second floor along with all of the weighted and resistance implements and most of the cardio stuff; the first floor is reception/sales, a small lounging area, the ladies only workout room the pool and main locker rooms; the third floor is a walking track and some more cardio machines.

Friendly greetings at the door used to be somewhat lacking, but lately that has vastly improved, and there have been no issues that have not been resolved quickly.

The operating hours are a bit limited on weekends ( currently open at 8am sat/sun/holidays - - - 5am on weekdays ) but I have to say that they usually don't close altogether on holidays, which is a boon for people like me who have only a few days off themselves.

Parking is ample, and there are several good places to eat in the same Toringdon complex, and its very close to Ballantyne.

As far as 'fitness' gyms are concerned, I rate it pretty high, and I like the place, and recommend it.

07/20 UPDATE:
Big improvements are being made! Facilities team appears to still be short staffed when it comes to the locker rooms but the cleanliness and the equipment conditions are quickly improving. Saw a team of equipment technicians cleaning and fixing every cardio machine and applying new leather covers over cushioned pads. Even the months-long air conditioning problem got resolved.

Not sure what changed but this location is on the right track to regain consumer confidence!

Not a single notice, no warnings nothing posted around the entrance or lockers.

Confirming the previous posts - the people working here are nice but the facility is falling apart between rundown equipment and gross amenities. Broken shower stalls, missing shower handles, no towel or shower caddy hooks anywhere, tiny old lockers, moldy floors and carpet, sticky weights and machines... Had an extremely rude interaction when trying to scan my member barcode this afternoon. The woman at the front desk watched me approach the scanner she was standing behind to then immediately snatch it away telling me not to use it. Didn’t apologize didn’t offer an explanation. The scanner was on I could see the red light. She gave quite a bit of attitude for no reason. This location has always had some staff members display a fair amount of rudeness. I’ll be calling in tomorrow to discuss this horrendous interaction with the staff member because it was completely uncalled for.

I recently joined this LA Fitness and found the staff to be very friendly. Myshad Sims did my Fitness Assessment and was very thorough and explained my analysis and discussed my fitness goals w/me. The Women's Locker Room was not as clean as other LA clubs I've been in. Overall, so far I like the environment.

It was SO hot in here. Unbearably hot. Machines are so old and outdated, not enough benches for free weights, only 1 treadmill in the women's only area, the entire facility smelled like chlorine. When I went inside for the first time there was nobody at the front desk to greet me. Not going back here.

Beware of scams! The trainer, Space (Deshaun) and GM, Eddie, clearly care more about money than integrity. They will do anything to try to sell you personal training package. They will promise you the moon and back. Be sure to make them write everything down on paper. The contract must match all of their promises or they will not follow through. Crooked! They take advantage of young people I would not recommend them.

I’ve been going to this gym since March, I tried to look past the bad reviews and check it out myself…. Believe the reviews I regret going here it’s ALWAYS dirty, there’s NEVER wipes to clean the machines, the Sauna in the women’s bathroom has been out for a whole month…… and the machines are so old. Also the staff acts really unprofessional when I brought a guest ONE time they were acting all weird like they didn’t want to assist me and check her in. then some guy on their team was tryna sell her a membership. I really recommend not getting a membership here. I was catfished by the quick tour they gave me.

This gym is one of the dirtiest gyms I've ever been to. The amount of built up dirt, dust, and filth is honestly shocking. I go in the mornings and the stations rarely have wipes... it's confusing how they just opened and don't have anything restocked. The location really needs to be shut down, deep cleaned, and reopened. I've never seen a cleaning crew present. Trash in the lockers will be there day after day and the machines have caked on dirt - as in no one is wiping anything down at all. The picture I attached is from their cardio room... this isn't just a one off missed cleaning, this is months of never cleaning. I gave 2 stars because the staff is nice and weights are plentiful.. it truly has a lot of potential. Management should really take heed to reviews and step up the cleanliness of this location.

Update: Sauna has been out of service for a month and attached is the only update we’ve received. Again, after over 6 months of coming to the gym I stand by all the comments I made in my original review.

I have been a member of LA Fitness on Copper Way for almost a decade. Although the facility has always been top notch, the current Staff is second to none. The new layout in the stretching area is really nice and the level of cleanliness has never been better! Thank you LA FIT staff.

Absolutely disgusting, have been a member at this location for 2 weeks and about half of that time they have not had sanitation wipes to wipe the equipment down after use OR paper towel with a sanitation bottle. When I asked this past time they just said we’re out, no cares given. I’m sorry that I don’t want to sit in someone else’s bodily fluids! Beings they don’t care hopefully the health inspector and code enforcement will, they’re the next call.

Been to several LA fitness. This is most run down, disorganized, and staff didn't even say hello. Young lady cleaning men's locker room is hard working and professional. Pantry moths all over shower area. Wife said hi to guy as she walked in, no response back. Rust on machines. No clock on wall in pool area? No coat/towel hooks by sauna? Trash on floor. Smoothie service hours should have been open but wasn't.

This location needs to double or triple their janitorial budget because every bathroom is gross to be in and just barely acceptable. The showers have flies, the urinals and toilets reek. If you come to workout here don’t expect to leave feeling clean.

I don’t go to the gym as much as I need to go as it’s a little bit further from where I live both both of them (this one and the one in rock hill) there is a lot of equipment in the place looks modern. I would say that I can never tell if they actually clean the location because everything is always dirty. on dust and fingerprints all over the machines the mats are dirty and the locker rooms are the worse most the times I’m scared to go in there. I know in rock Hill. The sauna bench has been broken ever since I went to that one so it looks like a big chunk of the wood was taken out and never replaced. When I use the stairmaster, it makes these weird noises like it’s going to break. I’m going to renew mine expires this year. I will say it was the worse choice of gym that I picked.

My wife did the membership and one month later she had a medical issue that unfortunately stoped her for being able to continue the trainings.
Even tough the gym charged us $1,200.00 for breaching the contract. That’s not fair, but we paid to get rid of this place.
Today, one month later, we received another charged in the credit card and guess what? Julian the person who canceled the papers (very rude person) said that he didn't cancel so we have to go there again to pay more and have the cancelation done.
This gym is ridiculous!! All they want is your money!!

The building outside looks nice, but once you get inside is a big disappointment. I have never been in a gym so dirty like this LA Fitness. People pay for a membership and LA Fitness can't even keep the place clean at least the minimum, no matter where you look will be dirty. Floors, equipment, bathrooms, mirrors, windows, glass stairs, etc…. You can see they don't touch anything in a long long time to clean it.
