Update: they can't even be bothered to respond to negative or positive reviews, they clearly use an AI to write up replies to all of these.

Original:
I'm really unhappy with my experience at Lifetime. Half of my issue is with this facility specifically and the rest is with corporate.

Lifetime is a luxury gym brand. I increased my monthly membership fee by 60 a month to go from the YMCA down the road to this lifetime with my partner. I actually lost amenities by switching to this gym (wet sauna, pool) but it's a shorter commute for me and those in my area. It really feels like this lifetime fitness is just taking advantage of the Apex community since there is no other major gym to compete in the Beaver Creek area. I guarantee once One Life opens they will try to be competitive with some promos and all but for now they aren't doing anything for member retention or joining benefits.

Lifetime is a very sales driven gym. When you join you'll get a bunch of cold calls from personal trainers for your free introductory lesson. The intro personal training session is just a lengthy sales meeting. The whole goal is to get you paying weekly or monthly for extra sessions. This is so integrated into Lifetime fitness that you literally cannot use the apps fitness tracking features unless youre actively paying for personal training.

Dynamic stretch was a similar experience, I also met an especially aggressive trainer person who called me and rescheduled my appointment with him to a time I said did not work for me, but he was extremely pushy and did so regardless of my protest so I just ended up canceling my personal stretch session completely later.

Because this gym is so sales focused over half the staff is personal trainers and if they're not actively with a client they are basically hiding behind the desk hanging out. They do not walk floor and engage with the customer base (this is weird coming from the YMCA).

The high focus on sales would make more sense at like... a planet fitness where the membership is literally 20 dollars, but here where its a hundred dollars per person it feels very bad.

The facilities aren't cleaned well and frequently the men's locker room smells terrible. Recently they swapped the men's and women's locker room temporarily without having staff help guide the (mostly) older client base so I personally ran into multiple confused folks in the wrong locker room. Also the men's (women's) locker room had like 1 working shower for that week. Very premium.

The equipment is nice. Nothing special, but unfortunately everything has that 80s brown esthetic so it looks older than it probably is.

I was hoping to just cut ties with this place and move on since I was not having a good time but their corporate decided to ignore me. I asked to please let me end my membership early since I was so unhappy after less than 2 weeks, I didnt need a refund, but I didnt want to be charged for the next month. I was charged today, 100 bucks for just 17 days of gym (the remainder of my 31 days since i cancelled). I understand their policy but they aren't interested in talking to or working with unhappy customers, so instead I got no reply for over a week. I dont feel comfortable with (most of) the staff on site because they tend to hang out in little pods and really dont give the customers too much attention.

Very bad management. I was member for 2 and half years. Paid as much as $550 a month but manager fought me over $50 credit that their employee already offered and owed to me. Even if i paused and cancelled my membership for couple times before i always came back. But not this times. Just very poor management business decision. It was not even about $50 it is about doing what is right not just trying to nickel and dime your customers over everything. Lifetime used to be good but dirty and outdated facilities charging arms and legs is not it

Overall, a good fitness center while understanding that many Lifetime's have a lot more amenities such as courts, food, salon, etc. The monthly membership price at this facility is high and might have some issues once another fitness center opens in Apex later this year. I will be checking both facilities out and price will be a factor.

I’ve just started training at this gym, and the biggest drawback I’ve noticed so far is that the water from the drinking fountains is warm. Why isn’t it being cooled? Considering the relatively high membership cost, I would expect at least cold drinking water to be available.

Extremely loud and over the top music. Unable to hear the persons next to me or listen to what I brought because of the volume. Asked for assistance and told that the music level as just under the maximum allowed limit by lifetime so there was nothing that could be done. Very frustrating.

after doing lots of research online, I finally went in yesterday to get a membership. Talked to the lady at the front desk about starting one, and she went “The membership is $108 a month, are you okay with that?” while looking me up and down with a raised eyebrow. Now I’m a member of another gym.
Amenities looks good and clean though!

Gym is nice and well kept, but the price keeps going up without the addition of any new equipment/amenities… they abuse the lack of competition in the area and say demand is a reason to increase the price. They will lose half their memberships when the new beaver creek gym opens because of this…. Great gym but not worth the new price of admission.

No frills and overpriced

There is nothing special about this gym but the cost would suggest otherwise. The Apex location is considered Life Time’s lowest gym level. Some Life Time locations have great amenities but not this one. They do have classes, but if you’re like many users, you’ll never take advantage of them. It’s a basic gym at triple the cost. Unless, you like throwing away your money, there are much more cost effective options in the area.

Fantastic gym with terrific staff. If you're considering personal training I can't recommend Ralph enough! I have a lot of old wrestling injuries that made getting back into shape difficult in the past but with his help I've been able to get into great shape without re-injuring myself. He also has a very positive attitude and is a lot of fun to work with.

We took a tour of the Apex gym in the early afternoon on a bright, sunny day. How, the gym is so dimly lit even on a sunny afternoon for two reasons:
1.) the ceiling fluorescent lights all had only two bulbs in them instead of four!
2.) the main gym floors are dark brown, walls are dark beige and the only natural light coming in is from the very front of the building.
This extremely dark and dim interior is hardly one that would motivate me to work out in that gym.
It feels like the Death Eaters from the Harry Potter series are going to be flying around any minute!
I’d like to join this gym, but this dark interior is a real turn off.
I hope the owner will put all 4 bulbs into all of fluorescent lights and also at least paint the walls in a brighter color.

I’ve been a member at Lifetime Fitness in Apex, NC for over a year now, and I couldn’t be more impressed! The gym is well-equipped with a great selection of free weights, resistance training machines, and cardio equipment, so no matter your workout routine, you’ll find what you need. The facility is always clean and well-maintained, and I love that they provide fresh sweat towels and shower towels throughout the day—it’s a nice touch. The staff is friendly, approachable, and always ready to assist with any questions. The personal trainers here are exceptional—they’re knowledgeable, motivating, and truly take the time to understand your fitness goals. Overall, this gym offers a top-notch fitness experience and I highly recommend it!

Gym is fine, but overpriced. Most annoying thing is the trainer that thinks he’s a powerlifter and thinks the entire gym is his own. As an employee, you shouldn’t be crowding member’s and taking equipment…PT 101 pal. No one cares how much you deadlift and how loud you can be.

this gym is a-okay. there aren't many normal gyms around and, maybe because of that, life time feels quite overcrowded at times. many times i've cut my workout short because i've had trouble getting on equipment.

my other beef is that it's expensive for what it is. it's got a premium gym cost with out the premium gym amenities.

hopefully, more competition will spring up in the area soon.

Very rude staff. You get treated here based on how you look, race and gender included. Funny enough, this isn’t the first review that mentions this. No tactic whatsoever. We did complain about an incident and to my surprise, nothing came out of it. Needless to say, nobody in my family is a member here anymore and don’t plan to be.
Also, it just wasn’t worth the hassle. Classes are below average at best.

Life Time has the worst cancellation policy ever. They require in person cancellations but I called several times to cancel on the phone because I couldn’t come into the gym due to an infection. I had an appointment for a tour of the Lifetime Fitness in Apex. I came with a friend. Our guide was Cameron. He was so friendly and so helpful in showing us everything that this gym offers. He showed us all the classrooms. He explained how all the exercise equipment was set up. We were eligible for the Silver sneakers. He gave us a brochure on all the classes. He helped with getting everything set up on my phone…which was a HUGE HELP. Another employer named Nick presented us with out t shirts and water bottle. I’m so excited about getting this membership and starting my classes! Thanks so much Cameron and Nick!

I love Lifetime and this smaller scale gym in Apex is perfect for classes, relaxation and a lower-key atmosphere. Nick was very helpful with our family membership and is always accessible if help with your membership is needed. This gym offers the LT group fitness classes ranging from spinning to Zumba to to their weight training classes that compare to Les Mills’ Bodypump. These are called Barbell Strength and I like the ones taught by Robin and Kristin. The yoga studio is especially relaxing and welcoming and the soothing voice and classes offered by Naomi will put you in a tranquil meditative state. They offer spinning classes in a small studio and you ride to the beat of the music or the instructors’ tabata format. Tameka P., Mariangel and others are high-energy Zumba dancers and make the classes so much fun. Charlton is one of my favorites and I did the personalized small group classes called GTX where you lift weights and do high -intensity intervals on the treadmill. There are plenty of weight machines and cardio equipment on the floor and you don’t have to wait to work out. For classes, you reserve your classes in the lifetime app and this guarantees your spot or bike or whatever you reserve. The changing rooms offer plenty of lockers and there is a mini sauna. The facility is always clean and well-maintained. If you want the pool or larger gym experience, you can go to Cary or North Raleigh. This gym also has a fundraiser event for Duke Childrens every November and raise money and awareness for cancer. The events are always fun, the instructors are dynamic and I love coming here to workout. Thank you, LT Apex!

Is incredible how different is this gym facility to the others like LA fitness and planets fitness… I’m very impressed about the price of the membership… is not correspond it to the place. I staring tell you is dark inside .. the equipment looks olds and the variety is good but the amount is simple. … the place needs more attention, totally different to the other club, is true that is fancy but with price of the membership is possible put more dedication. Looks like a warehouse…for sure if another company open another location in this area going to suffer many losses of clients. … I don’t have choice and I’m not happy..

This is a great gym as long as you believe COVID-19 is not a big deal. Mask wearing is not enforced. If by chance an employee walks around then people put on their mask then pull it back down to their chin as soon as the employee walks away. It is actually pretty funny. Again, I would definitely recommend this gym as long as you do not care about the virus.

I have since joined the Lifetime Fitness in Cary. They do a superb job of keeping the equipment clean and enforcing safety measures. Each day I see a team of them at a certain time cleaning the cardio equipment row by row. Multiple times I have seen and heard workers asking people to put or fix their masks.

My recovery from heart surgery three years ago was in part due to the Lifetime Fitness Apex family. They assisted and encouraged me each day in strengthening my legs, upper body, and core. This helped and made my recovery easier, and the following year, I was a taking a variety of classes, such as Silver Sneakers, Chair Yoga, Barbell Strength, Zumba for Seniors, and utilizing the professional services of Personal Trainers like Maddie and Tony. I love Lifetime Fitness Apex family and their commitment to providing us a clean, safe, and family friendly space in which to achieve our individual goals of physical training. Each time a member checks in at the gym’s front desk, they are greeted by the front desk staff, led by Ronjonek providing a welcoming environment for all of us. New members will be given a tour, often led Nick a senior staff person. One of my personal favorites at our gym is Zo Washington, our gym’s general manager. Kelley Poulk, Studio Manager always finds the best instructors like Charen, Sue, Andrea, Mariaiangelm, Carina, Karen, and Ivania. Kelley also teaches a class, Barbell Strength Training. As stated earlier, I love my gym and feel at home there. I almost forgot to mention one of the most important staff members, Olivia who manages the cleaning services, giving us a more healthy environment at Lifetime Fitness. ❤️ And last, but not least is an outstanding child care center, with a certified staff, led by Chavon and her great staff. I also know if I have any questions and suggestions that they will listen. Studios are kept clean and instructor sanitizes every bench, mat and weights after every class. When I walk through the main fitness floor everything is neat and there are hand sanitizers and cleaning sprays throughout. I wish I could give this gym more than 5 stars because they deserve it. Thank you, Lifetime Fitness Apex for offering so many Outdoor classes during this time! Very much needed workouts with all my favorite instructors, but exclusively Zumba with Carina and Mariangel! Starting off my week and ending my week with them has never been so fun! Both very professional and make coming to exercise a pleasure. You can tell they are loved by all their students!

I joined Lifetime Fitness last year. I love that when I come in Megan and Ben welcome me by name and and with a smile. They are always so great with my kids. The staff in the child watch area are amazing. My kids love to go and hate to leave, and I am so grateful for them. Charlton is a great trainer, he is encouraging and he challenges me, he is also a great instructor. The Zumba instructors at Lifetime are great. I wish the childcare was open longer for infants so I could go to all the classes. Tracey, April and Mariangel are fantastic.

The staff would rather lie and try to talk over you than deal with an issue. Poor corporate policies with no communication. They obviously could care less. Would give zero stars if it was an option.

Even in a pandemic, the club will not relax the notice period and will forcibly charge me for the whole month even after I stated that I do not feel safe returning back to the gym now that the club is reopening. I do not want to opt for the freeze option and would like the flexibility to reevaluate my decision of coming back to a gym at free will and not because I tied my funds with one gym. I am totally fine letting go of the March credit that was collected after the lockdown started. All I asked them was with the club reopening, I still do not feel safe returning to the gym and would like to evaluate my decision to return to ANY gym once the conditions are risk free and completely safe for me and my family. Extremely disappointed with their lack of flexibility under the current conditions we are living in.

Nick was awesome at following up with me to answer any questions that I had about the gym. I initially looked at other gyms in the area but Lifetime had more of that large gym feel that I enjoy, I know some people like smaller and quieter gyms though. The gym was very clean, locker rooms were clean and also was all of the equipment.

Hello Kelly Matthews,

All I wanted to do was just workout today and your fitness center.

I arrived on site at the Life Fitness location in Apex at approximately 915am. Upon arrival I inquired with the front desk lady about signing up for a day guest pass. She then proceeded to tell me I would have to sign up, register for a day pass, and wait for an email response and then further respond to some questions before being eligible to receive a guest pass. I then proceeded to follow her instructions. The backforth emails took over 20 minutes. I asked to speak to someone in person or if I could do the process physically in person. After waiting 20 minutes I decided that maybe your gym doesn't value my membership and I am not welcomed.

It's sad to say but I have travelled the country and other countries for the past 12 years often. In that time I have visited many gyms such as Golds gym, LA Fitness, Anytime fitness, Crunch, Ballys, 24 hour fitness, planet fitness, and many others. During those visits I have never been told that I cant obtain a day pass in person on the site. Usually these businesses are excited to meet and greet and extend open arms. As such would be good business practice and professionalism.

I am new to the Apex area and was just looking for some where to workout. I was interested in purchasing a membership for my wife, kids, and myself. But todays encounter spoke volumes. I don't fault the front desk lady because it is her management team that has poor leadership on how to handle new potential members.

I get the vibe if you dont look a certain way you will be treated differently

I’ve been a member of this gym for the past 5 years and I love it. I’ve had great experiences with group fitness classes, personal training, and group training. The instructors and trainers are friendly and knowledgeable, and there is a real sense of community here. Management is very approachable and attentive to member needs, and the child care staff is warm and welcoming. My kids actually prefer coming to this location over the larger Raleigh or Cary clubs because they don’t get so overwhelmed. I have nothing bad to say about this place!

Decent gym. Overall it isn't crowded compared to the Cary location, but has basically everything you need. It is always very stuffy and warm in there, and the water is the water fountains is WARM, thats my biggest complaint... I have to bring 2-3 water bottles because I don't want to have to drink the warm water when I refill my water bottle. I also wish the elliptical had the AC built in like the Cary location. Plus, after they did the renovations, I seem to have a hard time to try to find lower dumbbells (5-8lbs) on the floor.

Very costly unlike planet fitness and the YMCA. Not worth paying 50 bucks a months for a crowded dirty gym. Go to Planet Fitness instead in Cary. Been a member of this gym from June 2009 through June 2012 (3 years). It was okay at the time but gym is always very crowded.

Honestly did not check these reviews before joining the club. However due to proximity we joined to only see all that was reviewed with less than 3 stars are honest and real reviews in just one year. I really don't have to say anything here. Recently, our whole family got sick due to visiting the club. Only thing I did on one Sunday was to goto gym, from next day, Monday - Friday I was sick. Seriously health inspectors need to visit this and close this facility for good. As per the customer service, some rude trainers and staff..I have seen my share of it around here. And all this happened in couple months. For some reason this club is pale, lacks ambience and like a warehouse. Also there guest policy not to bring your kids..is a joke. What will I do with my guest passes..a total waste and gimmick...
If you happen to join this club ..good luck , and advanced thanks as you will like my post sooner or later. LOL
adios

The people when you come through the door are very nice and always diligent about greeting you and the staff is nice. However, I don’t feel it’s a platinum level club to be charging platinum prices. Should probably be a bronze elite charging about 30 bucks less a month. I come from a bronze level in Arizona and these places are identical.
This pool always seems booked out and reserved.
Also I use the steam room often and it’s always dirty. I’m not sure it’s cleaned every day.
Happy to adjust the rating if issues taken care of.

Some of the staff are pretty nice. Most are very aloof and seem self absorbed. Some are down right rude and unfriendly. Has gotten a little better with new front desk staff but not much. A lesson in customer service and retention practices wouldn't hurt. Gym itself is adequate. Experience in Cary is completely different. They know how to treat a paying customer.

AVOID THIS LOCATION!! I rarely write reviews but this is unacceptable. I have been to lifetime in cary, falls of neuse, wake forest rd & plantation point. This is by far the worst ever. All of the other locations are nice and clean this location however is filthy. It seems like they never clean the machines with sweat stains everywhere. the women's sauna smells like feces!!!!! I made staff aware and it still smells. You'd think with how much money they make they'd go in and replace the wood or something but no.

This place has had a ton of turnover with respect to general management and that has unfortunately compromised the general upkeep and maintenance of the equipment and facility. Some equipment has sat for months without repair. You ask them to fix the audio and video of the TVs, Bluetooth, etc they don't make an honest effort to do so. Some of this has been going on for 4 months plus.
It also seems to be either too hot or too cold in the place an areas of the men's locker room are filthy. The only saving grace is they have some very good trainers.

One of the best gym's you can ever get in the country. Yes country. My work makes me travel around the states. I tried the gym from oct 2015 to Aug 2016. Absolutely amazing. I even hired personal trainer and it was simply awesome. Little costly but you get what you pay for. Bad for me, I am not liking any other gyms at other locations after been there.

I'm pretty picky about gyms, but this location of Life Time Fitness is great. There's plenty of space and equipment. I don't really do classes, so I can't speak to that. I just know that when I go to work out, I rarely have to wait to use equipment, which is all I can ask for.

Great location. Pretty good hours. Front desk staff is generally indifferent to the comings and goings of customers. Pretty solid range of equipment, but when you get into the cardio machines, (at least the treadmills), the chances of getting a treadmill where the heart rate monitoring, the TV screen, and the treadmill itself are all functioning properly is hit or miss. You really need to check it all out before you start a run, because I often see people get all set up, stretch, wipe down the equipment, enter in their workout info, start the run, then stop because the TV picture is a hot mess. I have given up on reporting this stuff to the staff, because they clearly don't seem to take corrective action. I found one machine about a year ago where it was abruptly shutting down in the middle of the run. I told the front desk, because this was really dangerous and could lead to an injury, only to come back the next day and see the same machine sitting there with no warning sign, and still unrepaired. Also, they crank the music so ridiculously loud in the group fitness room that it can be annoying to people in the adjacent workout area, so I cannot imagine that can be good for the hearing of the people in the class....I know I have been in a yoga class in the room adjoining group fitness, and we are in the midst of a series of poses, while we can hear the pounding of the workout music in the other room.

That said, if all you need is a quick, conveniently located place to get a basic workout done during relatively normal hours, this can fit the bill. Just don't expect too much.

I have been a member for a few months, and the management is not serious about safety. While some may not take hearing loss seriously, I and others have repeatedly asked for volumes in some group fitness classes to be lowered, but this gym seems to think anyone into fitness should be partially deaf. After initial complaints were not effective, I used a calibrated decibel meter just out of curiosity. The volume in many cycle classes exceeds 105 decibels routinely. 85 is the max safe volume for prolonged listening. People, if your ears are tired or ringing after a class, you just caused damage. I will not sacrifice my ears for physical fitness.

For reference, I've worked out at other fitness centers including other Lifetimes for years, and I've never been to one that consistently plays music at painful levels and even has some instructors belittle you if you ask for the volume to be reduced.

And for those who suggest ear plugs, there is no reason a paying customer should have to be uncomfortable just to protect hearing. 105 (or higher, one class was at 115 as the instructor screams over the distorted speakers) decibels is not justifiable, ever.

If you don't care about group classes, its probably fine for you.

I just have to say, I feel special when I walk into this gym. I feel like I am being motivated and taken care of. I have NEVER had a problem. Yes, the new policy to reserve a spot for your infant is annoying but you get over it. In my experience, you can call the day of up to 48 hours in advance. But if they are full, then you just have to cope by punching your pillow (if that's your style). I have taken a few personal trainer sessions, yoga classes, and group fitness classes, I have been VERY happy with everything. I don't have any current complaints and whenever I did in the past, I express myself and then move on. I am glad they don't hold a grudge either!

Run! Do not sign up for this place. It is an awful gym, and they don't care about their members. Our family vehicle recently got broken into while we were at the gym. When the police came they said "Oh this happens all the time here because they don't have cameras." The gym is unthical and wrong to not put cameras in. If this happens all the time, and the cops have recommended it then why do they not listen? Our vehicle was not the only vehicle to get broken into either. Another persons truck was broken into with $4000 and a gun stolen. Scary how these robbers now have a gun in their hands. Lifetime fitness needs to speak up and do something about this. If they wont what does that say about what they thing about their members safety, and more importantly the town they get business in. Please choose another gym and show Lifetime fitness how wrong and unethical they are!
