Have loved this place for 3 years. Every morning. Unfortunately, their morning openers recently hired are rude and mock members and talk/joke about them. We can hear a lot from the upper fitness center. I am beginning to see why everyone is bailing for Crunch and other gyms.

The staff is great and the facility is clean but the Kids that go there ruin everything! They’re loud noisy and dirty. They urinate on the bathroom floor, They make a mess everywhere they go and they’re always yelling. They block people who actually work out there and they throw things at each other and leave their trash everywhere. The poor cleaning staff always have their hands full

Morrison YMCA is a disappointment. We sent our kids to summer camps here. They put them in the wrong camps. They didn't bother checking the names and sorting the students to the right class. They used "size" as an indicator whether they should go to day camp or visual arts camp.
They also do not give membership rates to members unless you are a member throughout the entire duration of membership subscription to camp completion, which is approximately 6 months. They note this "policy" in a corner of the website, not at checkout for a particular camp.
Just overall horrible experience with the YMCA.

The Morrison YMCA is always a disappointment. The women's family bathroom, which is the only one accessible from the pool, is always disgusting. No improvements whatsoever have been done since this YMCA opened. The showers don't work properly, no hot water, no changing rooms, no working blow dryers, just disgusting. Shame on the CEO and the board for not making this a premier YMCA. I have traveled all over the country and visited many YMCA's and this is truly one of the worst.

If screaming children and staff that allows posted rules to continually be broken without saying anything, this Y is for you! Don’t forget the continued broken promises of improvements year after year to try and drive membership sales… you’re better off spending more money elsewhere for an enjoyable workout. I’ve had enough!

We have been at this Y since it was a store front by Harris Teeter. We have always found the staff to be friendly, the bathrooms clean and weight room to be clean. Sometimes it is overrun by teenagers. One must remember we were teenagers once.

Gymnastics here feels like daycare in spandex. Over the past hour I think the kids have spent 9 minutes total on skills, the rest of the time they sent sitting up against the wall watching other kids while trying to pull their loose teeth out in the mirror. My athletic kid has been in class since January and still can’t do a cartwheel. Feels like they are just doing the bare minimum.

Delisa Johnson at the YMCA has truly been a remarkable asset in my experience. Her dedication and commitment to assisting with teenage adjustments and program involvement have made a significant impact. Delisa goes above and beyond in her role, demonstrating not only a deep understanding of the challenges faced by teens but also offering tailored support and guidance that resonates with them.
She assisted in setting up our new membership for the teens and has done an amazing job making us feel at home. The YMCA has a gem in their membership team

I like how much equipment this place has.
But the men's locker room or correct to say walking 🚿 shower is horrible. Shower heads are not controllable. Mold all the way around . And I asked several times when someone can clean 🫧 walls in shower 🚿??? They told me - we make notice and everything will be cleaned. But after a few days or week nothing changed ...
Not healthy place 😞.

Probably the worst experience I’ve had with any membership ANYWHERE. The pricing is ridiculous because they decide to put everyone in one box and charge $79 for a 23yr old who is SINGLE… NO KIDS… MILITARY… like it’s the same as a man or woman who’s married with kids… the majority of the amenities aren’t going to be used for someone like me who goes for the gym and basketball court... I don’t need two “free” hrs of supervising kids included in my membership when I don’t have kids. Then to make it worse they don’t have an easy way to adjust your payment based off your income. In the military we don’t have a 1040 on MyPay. All we have is access to our previous W2 from the year prior. The YMCA needs to see and should only need to know:
1. What your income is monthly/yearly
2. If you are single or married
3. If you have dependents
THATS ALL IN A W2!! And if that’s all I have you should be able to take that.
ALSO to add on to it they charge you one last time even after canceling because of their ridiculous 30 day cancellation policy so there’s no way to avoid that either… nice way to steal another $79 right?
THE SOLUTION:
Create a system where customers can choose between multiple types of memberships allowing access to different amenities. The most expensive obviously allowing you access to ALL amenities. If that means putting a scanner at each door for each amenity then do so. The YMCA has the money to do it so make it happen. Also make it easier to help first responders and students if you’re going to do that it shouldn’t be so complex just to get a discount. Proof that you are an active student or first responder is enough.
Truly disappointed, I expected way better from an organization like this. The multiple one star reviews says enough and clearly they don’t care.

Was at this location today for my workout. The gym monitor thought I was doing individual training session. I explained that I wasn’t and he seemed to have understood after me explaining what I was doing and that I wasn’t telling other kids they couldn’t use the floor because I was there. We did talk and he seemed to have understood. I went on to explain that for the year and a half plus that I have been working out at this YMCA, for them to have had this rule supposedly already established, I sure have seen people, maybe dads or their trainer with son or daughter on and off training and I’ve had to move to another court or wait until a later time to use the courts. And today, there actually was someone over there training some kids. I’ll just sum this part up by saying I hope YMCA you are being equal and fair in regard to this personal training rule.
However, while in the gymnasium today, again, there were kids just throwing the basketballs across the court for no reason and also throwing them to hit each other. After explaining to them twice, why that’s not safe for anyone in the gymnasium and someone could get hit and/or hurt by doing so, they stopped. This goes on quite frequently by older kids as well as younger. It’s not comfortable for those kids and even adults that may be in the gym trying to get a workout themselves. God forbid someone get blind-sided because of the carelessness and negligence of someone else. Some kind of rules need to actually be enforced somehow so that everyone who uses the gymnasium is aware of them.
Finally, in the men’s locker room while showering there were several older kids playing and tossing the metal stools around and I happened to see a kid attempting to throw one over top of a section of lockers to the other side. I suggested to them not to do that and that someone could get hurt or they would break something.

I am frequently at this Y.
On Sunday August 6, 2023 I was at the Y until what is posted online via google, as 6pm closing time. However, as I was leaving the gymnasium the gentleman who usually works in there (as of at least three months ago) and who was working that day, said to me specifically that the Y closes at 6pm, but they close the gymnasium down at 4:45pm to have it locked down by 5pm. Alright no problem. It was approximately a quarter till five at that time. Others who knew this were preparing to leave as well. Since the online posted close time was 6pm, I go and jump in the shower, brush teeth and all as I usually do. About five to seven minutes prior to me finishing my shower, I hear a male voice say “we’re closed”. I immediately respond, “a guy just told me that closing time is six o’clock”. Ironically, it was him. So did he just lie, is he playing games or what’s going on is what I’m wondering. So I just don’t respond. Then just a few minutes later I hear a female voice say we’re closed. My response is the same [mind you I’m still trying to take a peaceful shower], “a guy told me you all close at 6pm”. I didn’t much hear her response because i’m just trying to shower and all before I leave. After done showering I brush my teeth and proceed to my locker and am getting dressed when I hear a female voice from out in the hallway, “are you almost done”? Finally, I’m dressed, walk out of the locker room and there they both are sitting there and I discuss this issue with them including letting them know they were trying to make me feel rushed at the hand of your own negligence. Not acceptable.
I’m sparing any further detail on the conversation as I will speak to management about this. But I did feel the need to let it be known.
1. Please make sure employees are aware of operating hours.
2. If running or representing a business or entity, conducting business, operation, or the like, please understand that when a mishap takes place and you are the negligent party, it is now on you to acknowledge it (which they did [although I had to verbally highlight it]), but then you must now be more understanding and basically be even more receptive of your client/customer’s needs (in this case the need not to give a perception of trying to rush, at this point).
Sincerely,
Jason A Watkins

Pretty nice, only problem I have is the basketball gym is practically unusable when kids are out of school. It's pretty much used as a day care center or drop off spot for parents and they just run around throwing balls across the court or at people's feet. Needs to have some sort of adult hours especially during holidays or summer break. Had to cancel my membership last summer and start it back during fall.

In total, in Morrison preschool my children went to the class for 2, 4, 5 year old and older five-year-olds. Therefore, they had different teachers and I can give an objective assessment for this school. And I want to say that this school has incredible talented and patient teachers, an exciting program and an excellent system of communication between the school and parents. For several years at school, we have collected lots large boxes with amazing interesting art projects. Another amazing thing is that teachers upload photos and videos about what your child is doing at school to the app and you can watch these photo reports at any convenient time.Thank you for these wonderful memories and for the love, care and lots of fun.

My daughter just turned 7 today and wanted to see where I went during her dance classes. We were 10 minutes early, so I took her upstairs to the cardio room. 5 Minutes later I'm Cancelling my membership after two half masked staffers/mouth breathers harassed me and my daughter and threatened to throw us out of the building. Does the YMCA provide therapy with their health packages? Because some of your staff desperately need it, and are taking it out on your members.

I have been a member of the YMCA of Greater Charlotte for over 15+ years. During the pandemic, I do not go as often. However, when I go to the Morrison and Sara's Y, I consistently must ask staff to remind members put masks on to keep everyone safe. I have had staff tell me it's not their responsibility to police anyone; it's okay for members not to wear masks over their noses; etc. I have reached out to management expressing my concerns. This morning at the Morrison Y, more than half of the members on aerobic equipment had pulled down their masks, which made the gym unsafe. I brought it to the attention of a staff person, and she indicated it wasn't her job to ask persons to comply with the mandate. She also indicated that she was told by management to no longer enforce the mask mandate. I then spoke with one of the managers on site about my concerns. She told me it may be time to look for another gym if I am not happy there. This was shocking and humiliating, as another staff person heard her comments. I can't believe a manager would make this statement to a member. I informed her that I would escalate the issue to certain managers, and she responded by saying she was friends with the person I mentioned. Hence, no big deal.
I hope others don’t have this experience.

Morrison Family YMCA at Ballantyne most people that played hockey here live quite a ways away so would not be able to use all the amenities on a daily basis to justify paying $80 a month! Maybe we should get a news outlet to your facility and let Charlotte see what is going on here and how you let the rink deteriorate which has also been a safety hazard by the way. Very disappointing to say the least.
Now all the sudden you want to Make it mandatory to have a membership to play hockey!?
Also, now that you are charging for the rink you better upgrade it since it hasn’t been upgraded for 12 years by the Y after it was donated!

Pre Covid: Too many kids and teenagers (they come in packs and hog the machines); crowded; old salvaged equipment.
During Covid: The machines somehow got even older, unexplained closure from 1-4pm; and while it is ok to crowd in the small gym space where maintaining 6 feet distance is unattainable, the big and spacious basketball court remains closed, but not to board members apparently! When I asked a gentleman who was playing basketball by himself if I could share the one available hoop with him, he agreed. Not 5 min later, I was asked to leave while he was allowed to stay, because he is a board member. And we all know board members are exempt from Covid and cannot catch or transmit it. Appalling!

The after school program isn’t that good. The staff are mostly made of teenagers (now probably college kids). When I went there I had to sneak more than one snack with me because it felt like I was starving there. The summer camps for day camp aren’t good either. When I got hurt no one did anything. I got bit by a spider one time and none of the staff did anything and told me that it was nothing. That was an adult who told me that btw. it’s different when your an adult and watching the people take care of the kids but when your the child your opinions are really different. I almost passed out of dehydration one time. During teen camp it started pouring rain and they wouldn’t let us inside one of the counselors said that we wouldn’t melt and that we would be fine. It was pouring rain. I still don’t know why we can’t go to hawk ridge anymore or why we couldn’t go inside for camps. The after school clubs sucks and overall I didn’t like my experience there. I’m a teenager now and I was thinking about working there until I remembered my experience there as a kid. Homework club was boring. Kids choice was weird. The cooking club was the only thing I enjoyed there.

Just don’t, not even going to get into why other than too many kids, over crowded, only 2 people on Staff are actually there to help other people and uphold the values the YMCA stands for. I also haven’t used the gym in 6 months because i cancelled my membership and Kathy in accounting is saying I “suspended” my account... that doesn’t even make sense because when I cancelled they even asked why I am leaving and all that jazz... now they are charging me and refusing to refund even though I haven’t stepped foot in that gym in 6 months. Save yourself and spend the extra money for LifeTime up the street. Super friendly staff, state of the art amenities, actual trainers that know what they are doing, helpful and genuine people, etc. That is all :)
Oh and I got that payment reversed... could have just seen that I haven’t been there in half a year and given my money back instead of giving me the run around and basically saying I’m S.O.L. it’s the principle Kathy... what does YMCA stand for again??

I was a member here for about 2 years. Overall it is a great and clean place. There is an outdoor pool, locker rooms, workout classes, gym, 2 basketball courts, and indoor track and so much more.
I used this Y mainly for the gym. They have a huge cardio section. Nearly everything you need and hardly ever a wait to get on even during peak hours. The free weight area can get pretty packed during peak hours and you can sometimes find yourself waiting around for a squat rack or bench. But if you go a little earlier or later, or if your workout routine is flexible, it’s manageable.
The employees on the floor don’t do too much. They don’t ask lifters if they need a spot, or help someone if they are struggling, or yell at people taking videos of others doing lifts poor/incorrectly or for slamming weights or grunting like they are having babies. They also don’t clean up weights spread out as the day goes on (not that this should fall directly on them, the lifters should put their weights back correctly).
There is the occasional beefcakes that act like they own the gym, or the squads of high schoolers that hog 2-3 machines/benches and joke off, but all in all, not a bad place.

This place has gone downhill fast since all of the other area gyms have opened up here in South Charlotte.
1. Very bad management of the facility. There are no rules or structure that the staff will enforce because upper management doesn’t support their employees. You have members yelling and cussing , leaving weights and equipment all over the place , members leaving their sweat on their machines without wiping them down, etc...
2. It’s becoming a teenage high school gym. Groups and groups of teenagers who do not follow gym etiquette. Staff does nothing about it .
3. Bathrooms are VERY dirty and small.
4. Very small free weight area given the amount of members.
5. They charge $72 a month for just one adult. Way too high for what they offer .
6. Not enough treadmills. During peak hours , you have to wait for a treadmill.
7. Not great hours . They also close the gym a lot for staff meetings and close down excessively for the holidays .

Very disappointed with the basketball program for my son. He is 8 years old and loves basketball. I just don't understand how the teams are divided up. Today we played against a team with at least 8 of their players a foot taller than every boy on our team. We have a whole team of Muggsy's playing against a team of all Lebron's. Needless to say we never stood a chance. I would suggest implementing a skills day and dividing the teams accordingly to make it more even and competitive for this age. This has been an issue for the past 2 years we have played here. Other programs in the area use this system for their athletic programs. We will not be putting our son in this program again. Complete waste of money.

I was denied access to the gym simply because I didn’t not pay for the program that day designed for my age group. When I tried to ask where I could go to play basketball they had no answer for me. Clearly the 125 dollar monthly membership I pay is not enough, they need me to pay 5 more dollars to play basketball with my friends. Not what I call a fun gym experience. Especially when I had no money on me and sat in their lobby for an hour with nothing to do.

This YMCA is fantastic!!! There's so much to do and it covers almost everything. They have baseball and softball fields, pools, hockey rink, soccer and football fields, a gym, a place to get physical therapy, a yoga gym, and many many other amenities. The gym here is top notch and has tons of equipment. It also has a lot of treadmills to use to burn off that fat. Below the gym, there is a Smoothie King so you can get post-workout protein smoothie. You could also just get a regular smoothie that doesn't have the extra protein. Overall I recommend going here if you want to have a membership to an extensive facility. It is a little on the expensive side though but it can be worth it if you go there regularly.

Good ymca option that is open until 6pm on weekends. The facility has plenty of cardio machines as well as a Jacobs ladder, rowing machine and seated elliptical machines. They also have indoor track, but It is very narrow. They have a small cross training area as well as a heavy bag situated in the indoor track area. I cannot speak to the group classes, however Zumba class was extremely full and seemed pretty high energy. The locker rooms are okay. Nothing fancy.

I absolutely love the Summer Camp program and staff (reason for 2nd star) but today's experience made me regret having a memebership here. I attempted to bring my two kids and nephew to enjoy a day at the water park and upon entering, I was told it was members only day and my nephew would be unable to enter, he's 3. I politely asked if they'd be able to make an exception based on his age and the distanced we'd traveled and was basically turned around at the front door. Once I found out that my nephew indeed had a membership, I came back in and was greeted in a very rude and dismissive way. After explaining, to the same lady, that my nephew was a member, she began demanding my sisters name, address and date of birth. She then accused me of lying because she was unable to locate her information in the system. Once found, she denied us again for her having an "expired membership". I called my sister and verified the membership had never expired and even after confirming it was indeed active, the lady insisted on calling the other location anyway to verify my nephew was actually included on her family plan, although she could clearly see it on the screen. We waited over 10 minutes while two toddlers screamed in the entrance and without receiving an apology. I've never felt so humiliated and unappreciated in my life. Very disappointing experience to say the least.

There was a young gentleman (leadership crew) who spent 40 minutes looking for a ping pong ball so that my kids could play ping pong. What a star!!

It is confounding that no indoor pool has been built. The outdoor pool has very limited adult swimming hours (early morning, late evening). Without an indoor pool the Morrison Y remains 2nd rate. We got tired of waiting and dropped our membership.

We walked in, thinking we would have a great time. The first thing we were greated with was two workers, having a conversation, when we walked up to them, they ignored us for a solid 5 minutes, and finished their conversation. We walked to the "waterpark" entrance. I , a 15 year old female, was greeted with a girmey dirty, smelly, and wet locker room. I looked around to find a private spot to change but couldn't fine one. While i was looking i came across multiple body parts (of all ages) that i did not want to see.I felt uncomfortable changing in front of everything there so i decided to go in a bathroom stall first. The first stall i went into had no lock. So i then proceeded to the next one.The next stall wasnt a good choice either because there also was no lock and then was feces smeared in and on the toilet. I tried to look past it by simply finding another location. I then decided to change in a nearby shower, big mistake. I open the shower curtain and saw water filled with dirt all over. I ignored it and proceeded to change. once i walked outside, we went to sit at a nearby table to eat soen snacks, only to be rudly interrupted by a screaming children talking about fetuses and male reproductive organs. We sat through the screaming, and finesged eating after being attacked by flies. When we reached the pool, we saw apon closer inspection that tge edges of the pool were a bright green from the mixture of the blue water, and the yellow urine left behind. The water murky, and i had observed various people spitting into the water. The we finally decided that this "waterpark" was not for us. On our journey out, we saw lots of garbage and rotting food. When i walked back into the locker room, i saw lots of roaches and waterbugs. We made our way to the deserted "teen center" and attempted to use the computer, which didn't work anyway. Definitely not worth the outrageous dees i pay for being a member

I love this Y. Plenty of great group exercise classes led by great trainers. Room for you to do your own workout, including basketball courts, crossfit, yoga, barre, etc. Plus programs for kids on up, including interesting cooking classes for teens like "street foods of Italy" and "developing knife skills." Outdoor pool for kids (with zero entry) and regular pool with slides. I only wish they had an indoor pool.

Great facility, warm welcome, YMCA values in action. I am a Y employee visiting from the Suncoast Y in west FL, I have to say that, I had a wonderful experience at this branch. Keep up the great work and Y traditions, we will be visiting again. Thanks.
