A few weeks I wondered into this gym after finding it on a class pass app… the very 1st day I was incredibly anxious as I am in no way a gym buff but I was so pleasantly surprised! They were so welcoming and accommodating!
Since then I’ve been back pretty much weekly to the LIFT class and even a couple of STEADY classes. I’ve seen the progress in myself and have pushed myself to new accomplishments with the help of some amazing people !

I can’t say enough about the great team as Oak and Iron! This is more than a gym, it is a community. All of the trainers are so knowledgeable about movements and mechanics. They do more than lead a fitness class; they get to know you and coach you to you get stronger.
The program itself is one of the biggest reasons I go here. Before joining Oak and Iron I worked out on my own or with friends. That worked for a while and later I had a personal trainer. The thing I like about Oak and Iron is that it’s more affordable than a personal trainer but I still feel like I am getting the benefit of a high level routine combined with trainers that know me and my body.
I couldn’t make up this program on my own. MWF are Lift days focusing on different muscle groups in 12 week cycles. You work to improve on a test movement like back squat or bench press through structured progressive overload. TuTh and the weekend are cardio days with either steady state or interval sessions.
The equipment and facility are in great shape and everything is well maintained. Everyone in the classes knows each other’s names and we all celebrate progress together. Because you are working out with other people you are always pushing yourself to get a little bit more. If you are looking for a new gym or to increase your strength and fitness you should definitely check out Oak and Iron.

Fantastic Coaches & Real Results!
I've been training at Oak and Iron for a year and couldn’t be happier. I attend the weekday lunchtime group classes—weights on M/W/F with Coach Matt (He is the owner), and conditioning on T/Th with Coaches Diana and Melody, who always push us hard.
When I joined, my goal was to lose stubborn waist fat. They explained the importance of full-body training, and they were right—I’m now leaner, stronger, and have way more energy. The coaching, community, and consistency here truly work.
Highly recommend Oak and Iron to anyone serious about getting in shape!

I’ve been a member at Oak and Iron since December 2022, and after taking some time off to have a baby, coming back reminded me how much I missed it. Every workout leaves me feeling empowered and stronger. The team culture is incredibly supportive, motivating, and welcoming. It’s more than just a gym, it truly feels like a community. I’m so grateful to be back!

Oak and Iron is an incredible gym. The people here are genuinely kind, and the coaches go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and at home from day one. It’s a professional environment, but never intimidating. The workouts are versatile and thoughtfully structured. There’s enough variety to keep things interesting, yet enough consistency to build real progress. That balance is exactly what keeps people like me coming back and staying committed. Highly recommend!

I have been a member at Oak and Iron Fitness for over a year and a half and it has been the best gym experience I have ever had. The community is supportive, motivating, and fun. The coaches are knowledgeable and make every session both challenging and enjoyable while keeping proper form and safety a priority.
The programming is excellent. It is a well balanced mix of strength training, high intensity workouts, and zone 2 cardio that keeps things fresh and effective. It is a complete system that delivers results you can see and feel in your strength, endurance, and overall health. What I really appreciate is that it is designed for longevity. I can confidently see myself continuing this program well into my later years because it builds strength and conditioning without breaking down the body.
What has kept me consistent is not only the physical transformation but the mental one as well. I feel stronger, more confident, and less stressed. Oak and Iron has truly been life changing.
Whether you are new to fitness or have been training for years, this is a place where you can thrive. It is more than a gym. It is a community that pushes you to be your best.

This review is long overdue but much deserved to the Oak and Iron team. My husband and I were newer to Raleigh and tried a couple different gyms but nothing really stuck. From our first class at O&I we knew it was exactly what we were looking for. The programing is top notch and carefully curated each week to help you grow stronger no matter what level you are starting from. Every single instructor truly cares about each client, making an effort to get to know you as a person as well as your strength goals. The owner Matt is awesome and his passion for fitness, intentional form, and overall wellbeing shines through to every aspect of the business. And lastly, the community of clients there is really something special. Getting to workout in a group setting everyday opened up the opportunity for friendship, encouragement and even networking. I never walked away from a class not feeling supported either physically and mentally.
We unfortunately just relocated and moved a little too far away and had to find a gym closer to home to stay consistent, but I would HIGHLY recommend Oak and Iron to anyone looking for more than just a gym in the Raleigh or Cary area!

Oak and Iron Fitness is not your typical strength and conditioning gym. It is a gym that treats you as if you were family. My first class at O&I every member in that class came and greeted me, talked about their experiences for each class O&I offers, and how great the coaches are. By the end of the first, I felt like I just left a family reunion.
The way O&I programs are set up, there is no reason why you can’t live the healthy life you dream of. They offer strength, steady cardio, and high intensity cardio classes. The strength classes are full body classes which works out great if you are a busy person.
The coaches are very knowledgeable. Always ready to lend a help hand or teach you another way of achieving the exercise. Especially, if you have bad knees like I do. I can go on about O&I but you should come and experience it yourself.

I took my first class at Oak and Iron yesterday - specifically the LIFT class - and I was honestly a little nervous going in. I’ve never done group fitness before and I’m currently dealing with a back injury, and I’ve always stuck to solo gym sessions with a PPL split. But from the moment I walked in, the vibe was incredible. No judgment, just good energy and support all around.
The class kicked off with a warm-up to get our bodies moving, and I was a little unsure when I saw it was a full-body workout (something totally new for me). But it ended up being exactly what I needed. The workout was challenging in the best way and I got an amazing session in. I let the coach know about my back, and she immediately offered modifications for any movement that didn’t feel right - which made me feel really taken care of.
I’m planning to use the rest of my class passes this week and then sign up for a full membership. I can’t wait to try the other classes. Only one day in and I already feel like I’ve found my home gym.

Oak and Iron Fitness in Raleigh is a full training experience that prioritizes movement quality, strength, and long-term physical resilience. The workouts are intelligently designed to push the boundaries of your range of motion while strengthening well-known stress points like the hips, shoulders, and core. This targeted approach doesn’t just build strength, it actively relieves tension in overworked muscle groups and improves how your entire body functions.
The coaching staff is encouraging, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable. They take the time to ensure every movement is performed with intention and proper form, so you’re not just going through the motions, but actually improving with each session.
There’s also a great community vibe here. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced athlete, you’ll feel supported, challenged, and inspired to reach your full potential. Not to mention they prioritize cleanliness and sanitation.
If you’re looking for a gym that combines smart programming, expert coaching, and a clean supportive environment, Oak and Iron Fitness is the perfect place for you!

I recently had the pleasure to stop in Oak and Iron in Raleigh, North Carolina for a class. Walked into a friendly staff, greeting me at the front door. I highly recommend anyone in the area to check this boutique gym out.

Oak and Iron has been transformational for me. I’ve done CrossFit style workouts for years and grew tired of the repetitive movements and seemingly constant soreness and strain. Oak and Iron combines responsible weight training (helping push personal goals) with HIIT and movements that promote pliability and joint health.
Matt (owner) is awesome - extremely knowledgeable and kind. Melody (my regular trainer) is a great blend of high energy, instruction, and “pushing you.” I’ve yet to have a bad trainer experience. The community is great - a blend of “normal” people from all walks of life.
My only hesitation in leaving this review is that the word gets out and I have to fight for space in my preferred classes :)

UPDATE:
One year later and I still love this gym! I've now been going to Oak and Iron regularly for about a year and a half. The workout programming is designed in a smart way to help you build strength and improve cardio but are also never boring! There is a welcoming and supportive energy too. Everyone wants to help each other succeed.
The trainers are one of the main reasons I keep coming back! While I originally joined the gym because of Mel, I now love taking class with all the trainers! I regularly take classes with Matt and Diana - they will both push you during class, but then laugh with you after class (or laugh at you while you complain about doing a wall sit)!
I can't recommend Oak and Iron enough!

I love Oak and Iron! When I moved to Raleigh, I tried most of the gyms around town looking for one that measured up to my old one. My search ended with Oak and Iron! It is a super welcoming community full of experienced trainers and friendly people. Shoutout to my trainer Mel who is AMAZING! The classes are challenging, but in a rewarding way that drives you to your best. The people here come to work hard and have fun. It definitely feels like a community, in addition to a gym.

He creates an environment that is physically challenging but open to all, which is a hard balance to strike in the gym world. Support a locally owned gym and get your sweat on at Oak + Iron!

Super solid gym. Great trainers and Matt has built the best gym community in Raleigh hands down. Full body training (no cross fit type of stuff) meant to keep you healthy i.e. weights (including dead lift bars) HIIT and steady conditioning. You can’t go wrong here.

Oak + Iron is one of the most inclusive and welcoming spaces I’ve ever experience. Gyms have a tendency to feel intimidated, but O+I is different than any other gym I been to. It’s genuinely a community of people who will build you up and celebrate your successes. No matter where you are in your wellness journey, it’s the place for you!

Matt and his team are top notch! They are attentive to make sure you have proper form when lifting(even during a packed class), or ready to give modifications when you need it. The programs are thoughtfully planned to give your body the best workout. I appreciate how they know your name; you aren't just a number there - you feel part of a great community.

I've thoroughly enjoyed going to Oak and Iron. There is a lot of variability in the workouts throughout the week. The workout is done in a way that is easily digestible and makes you feel like you are pushed, but can also accomplish the workout.

THE best gym for a great workout tailored to your skill level (beginner to advanced). Classes combine weight lifting with cardio, endurance, and everything in between.
I joined when it opened a little over a year ago, out of shape and not confident with weight lifting and nutrition in general. These days I feel more comfortable with weights and at the gym surrounded by great people and coaches!! I definitely recommend trying O+I!!

Gyms can be intimidating. Lifting weights can be scary. Group fitness classes use to make me anxious. I eventually got out of my own way. Matt has built an incredible community with Oak and Iron. The facility and equipment reflect the time, hard work and love that was poured into its making. I love the inclusiveness of the members. No matter what time you take a class you’re sure to find someone who will cheer you on and push you. I love how the trainers are hands on and correcting movement as you go through the workout. This was huge for me starting out as I was coming from a background of never lifting weights. If you’re interested in personal training you’re in the right place! Every trainer is amazing and truly care for their clients. I can speak personally from training with Kayla. She’s so knowledgeable and will help to push you beyond what you think you’re capable of. She also offers nutrition! I cannot say enough amazing things about my gym. Start your new year off right and come hang out with us!

I've been working out with Matt since January 2017 and I can't imagine it any other way. I followed Matt to Oak and Iron and I love the group of people he has put together - it makes this community so special. Oak and Iron is inclusive, truly for all ages and body types, and not judgmental. It's also just so much fun which never hurts (and a great place to make friends)! It's a great mix of weight lifting, HIIT, cardio, yoga, mobility and even personal training if you need it. Matt and his team will ensure your approach to fitness will be thorough, while meeting you wherever you are.

I like that you can participate in intentional workouts that are meant to build your skills from week-to-week. Everything is intelligently designed and there are always options based on your current abilities. The trainers are knowledgeable, encouraging, and compassionate. General vibe is very warm and welcoming. There is an emphasis on form, so no matter how long you have been working out, you will always learn something and be able to improve in a way that builds strength and prevents injuries.

Visited the gym today for the first time, and I will absolutely return. The vibe was high and everyone was welcoming and encouraging. This was my first high intensity workout in two years, and I felt challenged (whew), but was encouraged to listen to my body and take it slow if needed. Clean aesthetic and convenient location make this a real find.

Matt and his team are top notch and the best in the business! They meet you where you are and push you where you need it. The workouts are inclusive and the moment you walk-in, you know all are welcome here! I have been taking group classes and also benefit from 1-1 nutrition coaching with Kayla. The personal development member library is such a nice touch to the little lobby. I had a small injury a few weeks ago and not only did I receive alternative exercises during class, multiple trainers checked on me after class and suggested stretches and strengthening exercises for recovery. They go above and beyond!

I rarely write recommendations but Matt has been my trainer for over 2 years now and I am in far better shape as a result. What I love best is the personal guidance to ensure that my program is what I need and that each exercise is being done the right way. Trust me, you will never get this level of a workout at home!

Spotless facility, state-of-the-art equipment, and top-notch coaching! Matt is one of the best in the business. With hyper focus on form, and correct movements, all emphasis is on safety and sustainability. Whether you're new to fitness, or a veteran, I'd recommend Matt's coaching/Oak & Iron. One of my biggest pet peeves is fitness classes where the instructor is disengaged/on their phone/spending all time with 1 class member. That is not the case at O&I--caters to all levels, extremely welcoming, and attentive to everyone.

Really awesome and well equipped new boutique gym in North Raleigh. Staff is super knowledgeable, friendly, and engaged. The class sizes are small so you get some hands on training. The owner cares a lot about the community and contributes to good causes and runs charity events like donation events to raise money to buy school supplies for local teachers. Definitely recommend!

I have been going to group classes and doing 1-on-1 training with Matt since 2017. His understanding of the human body, lifting technique, and mobility is unparalleled. Matt takes the time to fully understand your fitness goals in order to create a personalized plan for your 1-on-1 sessions. His group classes are fun, motivating, and strategically thought-out. Every exercise that is offered has a modification, so no one is excluded, regardless of age, gender, body type, or athletic ability. Not only will you get an amazing workout, but you'll find a true sense of community at Oak + Iron Fitness. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Oak and Iron is a great place to work out and meet new people. Matt is a great owner and is so conscientious. I walked in with little self confidence, mobility and balance. 3 short weeks later I’m back on track, lifting weights and my confidence is back! I highly recommend Oak and Iron Fitness!!!
