Okra - that weird and beautiful underdog of the vegetable kingdom, that odd and gummy and delicious staple of southern cuisine that has, in its time, become a symbol of this place that many of us call home. We envision this space and all of the components of Okra as a refreshing change from your standard fare of yoga and wellness centers, one that is uniquely representative of and involved with the community that supports it. While we'll still be Om-ing and Namaste-ing away, we never want to lose touch with who we are and the community that we are a part of, and that's a big part of what 'Okra' means to us.

Purchased a gift card for a massage this year and no one will return my email after being 'temporarily closed'. Can someone from the business please reach out? I'd love my money back since we are unable to use the gift card. Thank you

I prepaid for a massage and they closed and canceled the massage on me. I’ve been trying to contact them for a week via email and phone and I’m not hearing anything back for a refund!

This was my favorite yoga studio with the best teachers. I loved it so much I even did my YTT here. I attended classes here for over 2 years consistently. It was such a beautiful, spiritual, magical, safe space. But recently it has all gone downhill. Majority of yoga teachers put in their notice to quit due to lack of communication and leadership along with poor management from the owner. Then he (the owner) all of the sudden locked the doors today and changed the locks, not notifying staff or students, simply putting a sign on the door that they are closed until further notice due to “staff shortages.” Yeah, I wonder why…. But that’s not even the real reason he locked the doors today. Apparently they do not have the correct licensure to perform massage therapy and have gotten away with it for a long time. I think the owner panicked and shut everything down when he was caught for this… I hope the owner gives up the studio and someone who actually can run it properly and treat their staff with respect takes over. I will miss this place so much and my heart hurts.

I’m so disappointed by the owner of Okra Yoga & Massage. The sudden closure this morning came without any notice to staff, which is unacceptable. Many yoga teachers had already left due to the owner’s poor management, lack of leadership, and refusal to communicate. All massage therapists were forced to quit last week for legal reasons, as the owner never obtained the proper permits to operate. This community deserved so much better. The teachers and therapists were the heart of this place, but the way the business has been handled by ownership has been deeply disappointing & unprofessional. I've watched the business go downhill for the last 4-6 weeks, while yoga teachers, front desk and massage staff were incredibly stressed and worried about their jobs. I truly hope this place is able to re-open one day under new ownership!

I absolutely love Okra yoga studio. The instructors are super friendly and each of them offers something different from their own life experiences and teaching styles. I've tried most of the classes and instructors to pick my top 3. 😊🙏🏼

Okra is a five-star, wonderful studio where everyone starting with the manager, front desk and instructors make you feel welcome and part of a community. The classes are taught using all types of yoga therefore you can always explore something new. Okra is the only yoga studio that I know of which offers, Kundalini Yoga. Hsing-ya the primary Kundalini instructor is an authentic outstanding teacher who combines excellent kriyas with thoughtfully curated music for mind, body and spirit. She explains the reason, science and benefits of each of her classes giving her students a well-rounded and deep experience. If you want to try Yin yoga, Wenny is a warm, joyful, world traveling instructor. After her class you feel like a new person. Okra offers classes throughout the day accommodating their clients’ scheduling needs. If massage is your thing there are excellent massage therapist too. Reiki with Jennifer who is amazing is another unique service I would recommend. This independently owned studio is an asset to the Plaza Midwood neighborhood. Check out okra you will not be disappointed.

Cute little yoga studio in the heart of Plaza Midwood! Attended an evening vinyasa class and it was a great 60 min flow with plenty of modification options. really inclusive vibe and I can’t wait to come back!

This was my first yoga classs here. I think the studio is fantastic! It is cozy, and has a relaxed vibe. I felt a sense of peace being there, and Grace’s class was amazing! I give 4 stars because after class I wanted to speak to someone about buying a class pass and learn more about what they offer. There was no one working at the desk today to offer help. I thought that was really odd not to have desk staff available. Anyway, that was super disappointing as I have been wanting to attend for a while, and just couldn’t get motivated or inspired. Finally, today I decided…I’m going to do this for me! I’m going to yoga! I felt great after class and excited to join, then walked away a bit deflated.

I absolutely love this gem of a place. I really appreciate the unique vibes of non-corporate yoga studios. Okra provides such an expansive and beautiful variety of classes and the massage/bodywork offerings can't be beat. The practitioners here are top notch.
I highly recommend Logan if you are looking for bodywork massage. I usually do not go for male practitioners in anything dealing with my female body, but I took a blind chance and am now a repeat client. Logan knows a LOT about the body-mind connection. What I look for in a masseuse is someone that knows and incorporates the entirety of the human experience because it is an energy exchange. He offers great support to truly move energy beyond the physical level and when dealing with the physical body he has a lot of awareness and strength to release tension.
I am grateful to be a part of this community!

This studio is amazing, I’ve evacuated from Hurricane Helene and they are offering us free classes. I will never forget the compassion of this community, the management, teachers and students. I have been teaching yoga and meditation internationally for a over decade- Wendy is one of the most inspiring, thoughtful and creative humans, she is magic. Thank you Wendy and Okra 🫶

Okra yoga is my favorite yoga studio in the Noda area of Charlotte so far and one of my favorites in the wider Charlotte metro. I am very grateful for the variety of classes they offer, especially the number of slower and unheated classes. Most of the classes emphasize the mental and spiritual benefits of yoga, not just the physical, which is one of the most important aspects of yoga, imo.
I left off a single star simply because classes that are named exactly the same can be very different depending on the instructor teaching them. I would prefer if I could rely on having a *relatively* consistent experience in terms of speed and intensity. For example, if I show up to a deep stretch class, I find it a bit frustrating if that class is actually being taught as a restorative class instead. Or if I show up to a class that describes itself as a slow or relaxed pace, but half of the class is taught at the same speed as a typical vinyasa class, this is also frustrating. I sign up for classes based on what my body needs that day, and it's frustrating when the experience differs so dramatically from the description. I would've signed up for something else instead.

I love the variety of classes.
Today I went specifically to check our Tai Dorn’s primal yoga class which combines elements of Tai Chi and Kung Fu, as well as somatic release through energy clearings and using our vocals with poses to gather, move, expel and create new energy.
I had no idea our teacher today was a long term martial artist - she was always my favorite deep stretch teacher at Yoga One… many years ago, but apparently she’s been training both yoga and martial arts for many years.
Her class was exactly what I was hoping to find.
Martial Arts and Yoga are a beautiful combination and this is a really nice addition to my current practice.
I could literally feel the density of the energy in the air, holding it my hands.
and if you need a chakra reset - it’s all about moving energy- not mountains. Mountains don’t move. We do.
Great lil intimate studio and Tai is really great teacher.
What I learned today- I’ll carry forever.

Great deals on yoga and massage! Get on their listserv for their specials. Yesterday I had a THREE HOUR massage ($120) and it was so delightful. Their front desk people are so warm and friendly. You can find relaxing or really rigorous yoga classes to suit your needs - I’ve tried twerking in down dog and done a couples’ massage workshop at various points. Plus the free parking in the back helps!

I cannot endorse businesses that mistreat their employees. Throughout the entire year, there has been no air conditioning, and both the landlord and management have failed to address the issue. This situation exposes both employees and customers to oppressive conditions that are not only intolerable but also unhealthy. It's disheartening to think that the Plaza Midwood community would condone such oppressive behavior in the name of cost-saving measures.

Jen managed to unravel 6 months of stress in a 90 minute massage! My only regret is not finding her sooner. If self care is not already on your non-negotiable list, gift yourself an afternoon at Okra. After a class and a massage, you'll be revitalized and ready for the week!

I had the most amazing massage with Jen Strassberg a couple of weeks ago. The scheduling for my massage was incorrect and when I arrived my masseuse was not there. I was 34 weeks pregnant and broke down crying in the lobby because I was so disappointed. Jen finished with a client, saw me in the lobby, and offered to stay late to give me a massage (the day before Christmas eve I might add!) Not only was the gesture extremely generous and professional, the massage she gave me was one of the best Ive ever had. Jen listened to what I wanted and needed, especially at this stage in my pregnancy, and I left feeling emotionally and physically relaxed. I would definitely book with Jen again and highly recommend her to prenatal and regular clients.

I have been going to Okra to see Victoria for a few months now specifically for her massages and she is the reason why I keep going back. Victoria holds an open space with ever visit and I feel so welcome. She is very personable and truly cares about what my goals are and if she achieves them! This is not just a transaction or a job for her (what I have experienced in the past of just the same technique)! I feel light as a feather every time I leave! I will forever recommend her over and over again!

Was visiting from out of town and on a whim signed up for the 60 minute vinyasa led by Amelia. Very glad that I did! The flows were so well put together, it was definitely one of the more productive hours of my life with the amount of work that was fit in! For someone like me still working on fundamentals, Amelia’s style of instruction was fresh and interesting, giving clear direction always without a focus on following instructor demonstrations. This experience will definitely have me planning another trip to Charlotte soon to try one of their outdoor classes!

I received the absolute BEST massage yesterday - I'm talking PHENOMENAL!!! I've been coming to Okra since 2015 and have nothing but great things to say about their massage therapists. I've had everything from hot stone and pre-natal to deep tissue and now, most recently, the 2-hour thai thera combo. It began with 1 hour of stretch/floor work followed by a 1 hour of massage on the table. My therapist, Stephanie, was beyond amazing. She focused deeply on the areas that were giving me trouble, bit also paid attention to my entire body. I felt calm, relaxed and ready to face my week after that session.

I'd like to be more apart of this place, but it's really expensive and I get really judgmental vibes. One of the yoga instructors looked me up and down when I said I was interested in yoga classes and told me that I might want to go somewhere else. I'm Hispanic/Native and slightly overweight. I don't dress in boho or yoga pants. I'm not covered in tattoos and I don't carry a yeti or Starbucks cup. I was waiting for a guided meditation class and I was a bit too early and the vibes I got were "pay for something or leave". I had a lovely class but I'm not the stuck up type. Healing should be for everyone, not just small white girls that can afford boho chic. I go to Sanctuary Imports for EVERYTHING now.

I can't give enough love to this place, by far the best yoga studio in Charlotte, IMO. The energy in the place is so great, calm, and welcoming.
The teachers are well educated and all of them really care about both the spiritual and the physical side of the practice. (I've found with a lot of other studios that they only focus on the physical movements and the fitness aspect which really diminishes the experience for me.)

I just love this place!! On my questionnaire I was asked how did I hear about the place, my answer " the neighborhood raves about Okra". I made my massage therapist Tabitha smile. At that point, I knew I had found a gold mine in Okra. From the well decorated cozy massage rooms to the quaint Tea Bar, this place gets my 2 thumbs up!!!! Everyone was friendly and willing to assist where needed. My first massage was with Tabitha and she was THE BEST!! I've heard great things about the other therapists
and the yoga instructors but I put MY aches and pains in Tabitha's healing hands!!!! (TEAM TABITHA!!!!) ALL I CAN SAY IS... Just go...experience the ambiance of the place and services offered and I promise you'll thank me later!!!
