Went to a drop-in Ballet Fundamentals class to experience ballet for the first time as an adult and really enjoyed Kim Diepold's class! I felt welcomed despite being the only newcomer and didn't feel pressured to get every single movement right. Enjoyed being exposed to a lot of different movements for the full hour. If you've been wanting to check out ballet at least once, try it with Kim!

Open Door Studios is incredible! Jacque is a such a passionate, creative, and inclusive teacher. I find myself smiling so much during her classes because she exudes the joy of dance and draws it out of each student. This is one of the few studios in Charlotte with a strong offering of adult classes, and I so appreciate being able to continue dancing. She attracts wonderful teachers, offers a wide variety of pop up classes and workshops, and regularly hosts guest artists. This studio is a true hub for dance—a place where artists and enthusiasts alike can be supported in pursing their own creative interests. Thanks so much for creating such an inviting space!

What a gem of a studio! Jackie's adult ballet class is amazing. We recently relocated to Charlotte from NYC and I'm so happy this studio exists. As a former professional dancer, I can attest to the quality of instruction. Jackie's class is thoughtful, inclusive, and JOYFUL. I can imagine that she creates the same environment for her younger students as well. Thanks, Jackie and Open Door Studios, for providing high-quality dance classes that foster connectivity and community!

My daughter was 11 year in ODS and I can't say anything bad from this studio, comparing with another where we went couple of years before. The teachers were very passionate in what they do. The staff were very helpful and the owner is very knowledgeable, attentive and friendly.
ODS overall has helped to create a compound of values that will remain in my daughter life as an adult not to mention the beautiful memories and forever friends that came from this place. I couldn't be more appreciative.

I danced here before Covid and just started back again, last week. I tell all my dancer friends to give drop-in classes a try, I really like dancing here.

Any adult who hopes to try dance for the first time or come back to dance at ANY level can find a class suited for them with a wonderful instructor. If you haven't gone to a class yet, what are you waiting for?! You will not regret it!

I am extremely grateful for Open Door Studios. The communication is amazing, and if it were not for Jackie & Andrew Carr, I would not be where I am today. I have never had so much support from dance teachers before, and if you really know the dance environment, sometimes it can be very toxic. Open Door has managed to make their environment very welcoming & supportive. Even their receptionists, Jesse & Loz greet you with such a big smile. Open Door Studios will forever be my favorite place to dance, and will cherish the things that I’ve learned from this studio, always.

Our family has been with Open Door Studios for three years now. Initially we started coming for drop in classes for our daughter for ballet and hip hop. We ended up staying for the technique she is getting in ballet, modern, jazz, contemporary, tap plus friends and support that are amazing!

The performances this year have just underscored what an amazing place/family Open Door is.

This is one of the most exceptional dance studios I have ever experienced. Both of my daughters have danced there for many years. One of them landed a national Broadway tour right out of high school and the other has special needs and this studio has welcomed her with open arms. They now offer an inclusive dance experience called Step Together! They are not caught up in the over the top competitive nature that many dance studios are involved in. Their priority is the joy of dance and challenging each individual to explore and experience this art form to the best of their ability! I am so grateful to be a part of the Open Door family!

Open Door Studio has changed my daughter’s life. She started private lessons as a 10 year old with Cerebral Palsy - an instructor identified who was willing to take her as a student. Those lessons, with the diligent work of her instructors, eventually replaced clinical physical therapy with the added bonus of feeding her artistic soul. Now, at 16 years old, my daughter views herself as a dancer. And, thanks to Open Door Studio’s willingness to “expand the tent”, attends a group class that includes and honors her body - Step Together. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would.

We have been at Open Door for 9 years. My daughter dances 6 days a week. She loves it, but the reason we stay is the excellent instruction coupled with the attitude throughout the studio. Jacque White has created a studio that is serious but not competitive. The girls are taught that all bodies are beautiful, and that strength and health are the most important. These values, combined with the dedication and grit learned by advanced dancers, and the lovely friendships between the dancers, make ODS a special place.

My daughter has been a ballet dancer for 14 years. We have taken classes at 3 prominent studios in Charlotte and Open Door is by far the best! The focus on technique, artistry, and injury prevention is coupled with a culture that promotes kindness, inclusivity, diversity, and pure joy through movement. The staff members care deeply about each dancer and strive to meet them wherever they are in their dance goals. The opportunities to take classes across multiple styles and from an array of choreographers gives them a breadth of knowledge and experience that is hard to come by in the dance world. I’ve taken many adult classes there as well, and you won’t find a warmer, more welcoming, less intimidating space for a beginning adult dancer!

My daughter start dancing 10 years ago. We walked into Open Door Studios when she was 8. At 13, she entered the preprofessional program. We knew in 5 minutes our daughter was home. Over the years, she’s participated in ballet, pointe, modern, jazz, contemporary and jr/senior ensemble, and she still wants more. If you want your child to learn dance in an encouraging, technically superior, and supportive environment, THIS IS THE PLACE! Don’t allow your child to be a number or skipped over because they might not be the quickest to get a new movement or even worse-not having a specific body type. All children can learn dance from the exceptional student to the student invited to dance with a professional company. They just need to be in the right place. Let them be somewhere where they can be supported for who they are, while striving to be their best.

Open Door Studios is amazing. It has that small town family feeling where everyone knows your name, yet it is so incredibly professional and extremely well run. I've been a dancer my entire life and even spent years teaching ballet and I have never encountered a studio with the level of professionalism coupled with a deep caring for its students the way Open Door has. Our first year just came to an end with the recital. I was blown away by all the performances. Each one better than the last. It was so organized and well executed, it was like being in a professional setting. We look forward to many years to come with Open Door!

Our family has been taking dance classes at Open Door Studios for 11 years and we think they are the best! All three of our kids have been embraced for their unique abilities and have found beautiful ways to express themselves. We appreciate a place where individuality is appreciated and no one is excluded. Jacque and her team are kind, caring, knowledgable, helpful, and professional. We have seen this studio grow from a one room studio with a few classes to a thriving three studio center with a wide variety of offerings for everyone. I cannot say enough good things about ODS and encourage any dancers or dancers-to-be to check it out!

I 100% AGREE with the reviewer that highlighted this studio's atrocious communication. Based on their response below, all parents should apparently cross check everything they read or are told in order to see if it all lines up. Which one are parents suppose to know is the right one. Just plan awful communication on multiple fronts and no accountability.

Horrible Organizational/Communication Skills
This studio has some of the worst communication skills I have ever seen. They have no idea how to effectively communicate with parents. They either provide no information, inaccurate information or contradictory information. They get 2 stars simply because the instructors are nice and knowledgeable, however this is greatly overshadowed by the studios truly awful communication skills. One of many examples: We call the studio to inquire about tickets for our daughter's recital. The girl on the phone confidently tells us that it is general admission. A few weeks later we go online to purchase tickets and find out that it is not general admission and that all of the decent seats are taken. We email the studio to inquire as to why we were given inaccurate info and voice our annoyance. Our concerns are basically dismissed as we are told not to worry about it, and that there isn't a bad seat in the theater. Pretty sure sitting in the front center for your daughter's recital is much better than sitting in the extreme back right rear...come to think of it, this place and their complete lack of organizational and communication skills have become a pain in my extreme back right rear. Taking our business elsewhere. Annoyed at myself for not cutting the cord earlier.
