I’ve been a member since 2017, and while I’ve gotten great workouts here and stayed in good shape, I’ve noticed some areas where the experience could be improved. Other studios (and ,moreso , brands) are leaning into more customer-centric models, and I think this one could benefit from updating its approach. For example, the aggressive upselling of additional programs and the $10 charge for forgetting an OTF tracker feel a bit nickel-and-dime. As a long-time member, I find it frustrating that no exceptions are made, especially when newer tech like the Apple Watch can do the same thing.
There are also occasional issues with app functionality and some coaches being hesitant about allowing modifications to workouts when machines are available. After years of membership, it’s disappointing to encounter these small barriers—especially when it’s my workout and my needs change from day to day.
Overall, this studio has been effective for me, but with the options out there now, I’m finding better alternatives that don’t resort to upselling or these little frustrations. I’ll continue to use it for tread in the winter, but I plan to cancel in the spring. I prefer the North Raleigh and Cary locations, where the experience feels a bit more polished.
That said, the coaches here are knowledgeable and generally great, so I still appreciate that. However, it’s not the top choice it used to be for me.

Yikes, this is one of the worst locations out of the 75+ studios I've visited across the country. 2 of their instructors (Eryn and Brittany) both CONFRONTED me for not following the weight floor routine exactly. It was so off-putting. I take what I need and leave what I don't on the weight floor (I do OTF for the cardio). I lift a different body group every day so I do the exercises that match my day's body group. This is lifting 101 if you're trying to get big and strong, you don't lift each body group every day, there's no time for recovery. I've never had coaches make a stink about this before out of the ~75 studios, it's a you problem.

Three years ago I was looking for a gym that would motivate me to be the best I could be. I found that in OrangeTheory Midtown! The workout is amazing and the coaches and staff are supportive and push you to the limits! Everything is modifiable and you can run, walk, bike etc. You don't have to be a runner. Don't be intimidated, just walk through the door, you will not regret it! Don't forget to try the Strength 50 classes!!!

In my most recent experience at orange theory at north hills, I tried to go the first-time free class. The class was at 5:30 PM, and they had asked I arrive 30 minutes early to an intro session.
Once I parked and came down the elevator, I was having trouble finding the location and an orange theory staff member called me to check in that I was still coming. Once I explained that I was lost and my landmarks, they provided incorrect information/directions.
Once I arrived, I enter Orange Theory at 5:14 PM apologizing for the tardiness but letting them know they need to provide better directions in the future. (Please note that I am still 16 minutes early before the class starts). They informed me that because I did not have the full 30 minutes ahead of time, I would not be able to join the class. They asked for me to reschedule my free class but mentioned if I still wanted to join the class I would pay the drop-in rate. (I thought the 30 minutes was for safety concerns / teaching proper use and form on equipment.)
There was a lack of empathy in all three (Britt the instructor, Natalie the front desk attendant, and another male employee) of their voices. Will not return. If you plan to join your free class, please prepare yourself.

I LOVE OTF!! The staff is so fun and the entire program is honestly just the best. I’ve never been bored here while working out. It’s different every day and there’s always new ways to be challenged. I’ve been here for just 3 months and I’ve gone down a size in clothing and I feel SO STRONG. I absolutely love this place and no one workout has ever compared. I’m a life long member.

This was the first time taking a class here. The class was great. However, cleanliness was disappointing. The shower was very dirty. It looked like it had not been cleaned for a long time/neglected. The shower handle was broken where only cold water came out. No soap or someone put water in a soap bottle. I was surprised to see OTF like this. Will not return.

Orangetheory is the best fitness decision I've made. Their classes are challenging yet doable. I highly suggest going to Orangetheory fitness if you want to regularly workout and not be lazy about it. If you book a class in less than 8 hrs beforehand and cancel, you won't get the class back. So this really pushes you to get up and go! Would also suggest getting the 8 classes a month which is a good balance in case you have other fitness activities in your life. Their heart rate monitors are life changing. I love using it even when I'm not at orange theory.

Sadly the coaches and management have odd rules like if you have already done the rowing machine and wish to return to the rower later in the class as many are open and available, they will not allow it saying “you already had your time on the rower.” When brought up to management, they said they’ve heard it before yet this problem still exists. Instructors are nice and understand the frustration but they are just following managements rules.

Haven't done any sort of workout in 2yrs I was honestly intimidated at first and thought I was in over my head for my trial class. But the staff was incredibly friendly and took the time to show me everything before class even started so I felt comfortable enough to be in the class. The coach checked in on me a bunch which was very helpful. At the end of the class I was hooked. I felt good about my workout and couldn't wait to go back. If you're not quite sure where to syaty your fitness journey but want to start it, highly recommend this place. The heart rate monitors which track your progress are a great motivator for you to keep pushing yourself. It is exactly what I needed.

Love this location. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. This studio has great coaches! Really enjoy Sammy's classes! He is really good at pushing the class while also being encouraging. Frank is awesome too! Love his energy! So fun! The front desk staff always greets me when I come in and are quick to answer any questions when I call or email. Also, like that this location has tablets on the rowers. The only con is that morning and evening classes fill up quickly, so you'll need to book pretty far in advance. Even so, in my opinion, this is definitely the best Orangetheory studio in the area.

I joined Orangetheory in 2019 and I can't say enough about OTF or the Raleigh-Midtown location! The staff is very responsive to any questions that I have had and the coaches are the best around! lost 25 lbs. last year and a great part of my success was due to the encouragement of the coaches. I have a physical limitation and even though I was a bit shy at first to ask about modifications, I quickly realized that they do that for many people. In fact, the coaches ask members to let them know of any injuries or limitations at the beginning of every class. So, don't worry if you can't do everything on the template. They will help you find something you can do.

African-American 🖤, Female, Mid-Late 30s and I LOVE this studio! I like the push & motivation and direction the Coaches give. There is no judgement and everyone can work at their level of fitness goals. I also like the friendly Front Desk staff. I like that there are multiple times slots available for working out that accommodates the various schedules of members. I like the floor exercises which give me just enough weight lifting and strengthening but not intimidating at all. I feel so good after working out. It's such a major stress relief. I look forward to going to each workout session! Way To Go OTF!!! Keep up the great work!

I have been a member of OTF for a while in another location and loved it. I switched to this location upon moving and immediately regretted it and am going to quit otf for this reason. Front desk staff are not welcoming at all, coaches only cheer on the most athletic of the people in classes which is very demotivating for those of us not stellar athletes, front desk and coaches will not remember your name even after coming to classes for months but remember certain people’s names, and the studio is incredibly white. It may not be a conscious decision on their part but as a black woman I feel excluded 99% of the time. White people always get milestones celebrated and get posted. Just check out their Instagram to see who they post. Rather than denying this, just do better, otf midtown. Really wish I still enjoyed this.

I signed up for the 12 workout “risk free” plan. This couldn’t possibly be more of a scam.
First of all they told me that I could cancel if I did not like it and just be given my money back. I email orange theory to cancel and get my money back and they say you have to do all 12 classes to get your money back(I did two). After saying I wanted to cancel, I see another charge the following month of $179 taken out of my account. Now, I figured I wouldn’t be charged anymore after 1. Only going to two classes and 2. Telling them I wanted to cancel. How is a 12 work out plan not charged per 12 workouts and instead charged per month. Literally none of this was explained. Also trying to cancel and get my money back, I’m told there’s a 30 day cancellation notice that must be given. That means you’d have to cancel basically the day you start your “risk free” 12 work out plan. This couldn’t possibly be more of a scam. $356 for your risk free plan.

Pretty great, but Frank talks over the music way too much. It’s so annoying. Other instructors keep their mic volume lower or at the volume of the music. You can’t even enjoy your workout. Otherwise great place and location, and parking is easy to find. Just don’t go to Frank’s sessions.

Why join Orangetheory? The different templates, the camaraderie, the coaches know who you are. Even if you’ve been going forever, they’ll still correct form & I always notice them helping newer members. There’s a ton of class times too and high quality equipment especially the treadmills. My knees are very thankful! I do like the idea one member posted about one free late cancellation a month. I think as long as you cancel an hour or more & not no show no call. Especially if the class isn’t even full. That would be my only recommendation.

I’ve been going to this gym for over a year and I love it. Orange theory provides me with a workout that I need and no other class ever came close to. I know that for 1 hour I don’t have to think about anything apart from pushing myself. I like most of the coaches and their music selection.. though sometimes it’s not my jam.
Love coaches Sami, Virginia, and Dana (I think she might be gone though).
The office have been very flexible with membership during covid which was better than what other gyms had. They keep everything clean and go above and beyond for covid-19 safety. I actually think that the service has improved since covid-19.... so hopefully it will keep being like that!
What could improve:
- I hope that every coach makes sure to pay attention to attendees FORM throughout the class.. especially during the floor portion.
- it is still quite expensive
- cell phone reception is virtually non existent
- better cancellation and tardiness policies

For a person that doesn't love focusing on lower body and core during an independent workout, these classes are a big help. These areas are definitely emphasized along w/ the rest of the body. Friendly and organized staff, great trainers with quality advice/instruction and good attitudes. Will help individuals during the class on a case-by-case basis when they notice room for improvement with form, technique et cetera. The fact that you can view your heart rate, calories burned, "after-burn" levels, and "splat" points in real time is also a total motivator!Spend an hour to come in, work it out, and leave with a sense of accomplishment!

This is the best HIIT/group fitness! I used to workout at HEAT, but new ownership turned it into more Crossfit and less HIIT, so I left. I don't see myself leaving this OrangeTheory any time soon. The location has a great setup, is always clean and the staff is really friendly and knows almost everyone by name! The instructors are good and their playlists are great. The best part about working out here is that I travel a lot and nearly everywhere I go has an OrangeTheory where I can use because you have access to every location.
So why only 4 stars? Here are a few issues, if fixed, would earn OTF 5 stars:
- there is no reception in the workout are, which was an issue for me when my girls were in the NICU and I needed to have my phone with me at all times
- there is a $12 fee for being a no show or cancelling less than 8 hours before a class. As a premier member ($169/month for unlimited classes), we should get at least one free no show/late cancel a month
- you don't know what the work out is until you get there. It would be much better to post the workout in advance so you can plan accordingly. No one wants to end up doing 3 endurance classes in one week!
- parking, especially in the evenings during the summer, can be hard to find at this location

The customer service is mediocre to say the least. I came from another OT in Louisville and felt so much better about the customer service and the client community. I have seen multiple newer people workout with terrible form in NH but the trainer never helped... they could hurt themselves. No motivation from the trainers either. I used to LOVE OT in Louisville- clients cheered each other on, the trainers explained everything from nutrition to form and we had fun. Pretty disappointed especially because of the cost. Sad I had to drop membership. I will be visiting other gyms.

I came in today at 7pm ish Sept, 27th, 2019 and when I came in a lady who had her bag on walking out said "we are closed" I said I am not here I just wanted a information sheet or price list real quick. She says "I cant give you nothing we are closed" in a very rude and rushed manner. I turned around and left saying " WOW ill look for another gym" I have never been treated so rudely by any North hills shop or ECT.... I will just join the yoga place next door or join a planet fitness or fitness connection instead.

Dropped my membership after not being allowed into the class due to their 5 minute rule. I was on a conference call- standing outside the studio (employees could see me through the window) . I was legitimately 6 minutes late to class and they would not allow me in. The OTF customer service is terrible. No other studio in Raleigh treats their paying customers quite like this. I recommend HEAT, Madabolic, Flywheel, Cyclebar, and every other studio over OTF.

Great Coaches, workout choices and overall fitness benefits. Being instructed and encouraged by qualified personnel that care about everyone in the class, and do all they can to make the one hour period a challenging and great experience, in a controlled environment.

Its a newer gym in the area. I used the north raleigh before this and really enjoy the work out. The coachs are all amazing and i truly like that Nicole pushes me in class. They had a rocky start to open but i think they really found their stride!!! I would definitely say go try a free class with coach nicole.

I love going to Orangetheory North Hills! I have been a member at this location since moving to the area in March 2017, and the team here is awesome. All of the coaches are knowledgeable of the exercises and are great at getting you excited about each workout. They never make you feel badly about asking a question if you are unsure the proper way or form for a certain exercise. There are days I feel like I am dreading a workout because I am tired from my workday, but as soon as I get into class I feel better because everyone is so motivating! The team at the front desk is also awesome. They greet you with smiles when you walk in and even get to know you by name which is awesome. They don’t treat any member like a number, and they make a point to learn the member names. I highly recommend joining if you want to get an awesome workout and see amazing results not only with weight, but toning and overall lifestyle and health!

The workouts are always different and the tempo is upbeat... the ability to see how you are performing through the use of technology is better than anything I have seen. Last but certainly not least, the Coaches are very supportive and knowledgeable, I leave feeling like I have accomplished a lot in an hour.

Great location, great parking ( on street and in the deck is free as well). Equipment is in great shape and the coaches are spot on. The schedule offers enough variety that you really have no excuse for not getting a work out in, and the real time feedback via email on your calorie burn, heart rate, and splat points is a bonus. The workouts are brutal but the hour certainly flies!

I absolutely love orangetheory! I’ve been going to this location since they opened in January. The coaches are great especially mike and nick. I’ve found them to be the most helpful and energetic. I just wish they had a more organized system for identifying who is going to what station at the beginning of the class. Sometimes I arrive there early to ensure I get a treadmill first and people show up late and sneak in through the back door which is very frustrating.

I love the classes! I see good results with it and this transformation challenge has been amazing for me and my life style habits!! I like to be pushed and encouraged to be better. I love that they know my name when I walk in and know all about my goals and help me accomplish them in class and ask about my life. I will continue to go back!

I try a lot of Orangetheory locations and was excited to try this one as it is centrally located in Raleigh. Was treated pretty badly. Got double booked using the app because a drop in came to class? I’ve been to many different locations and this one and the North Raleigh one have by far been the least professional. Plus the actual clients were hostile! Won’t be trying this again. Went to Morrisville and Brier Creek locations and they were so much better.
