Original Strength Institute (OSI) is a boutique style personal training facility located in Downtown Fuquay-Varina. OSI has been serving the community for over 10 years and has established itself as a top training facility here in North Carolina and an internationally recognized brand offering online programs as well.
The most popular offering is OSi’s small group personal training membership which includes access to more than 30 sessions a week to choose from for members with a variety of coaches.
OSI also offers private personal training and has a physical therapist on site which makes their team well rounded and able to care for patient/client that comes through their doors no matter their age, size, or ability.

I have now been going to OSI for 1 year. I don’t know how to express how much the coaches have changed my outlook and health! Particularly Coach Kat, Coach Cathy, Coach Chris, and Coach Tim. They have all been the best at building strength safely while having fun!
I also see Kat for nutrition coaching. So many diet misconceptions were pushed for so many years and Kat has really worked magic to refocus what my body needs nutritionally and the results are phenomenal!
Each of you have helped me rethink what is possible and that age shouldn’t limit you. I wouldn't be this far along in my goals or have this much courage to push forward without your support. I've made more progress with you in the last 12 months than I made in the last 5 years. Thank you for the support, belief, and education in making life-long changes for the better!

This is a unique environment of all sorts of people with the same end goal, to be fit and feel good regularly. They treat you like family. They have a good approach of being nice, encouraging while also challenging you to be better. I love the smiles and friendship between participants. I like how all the teachers and coaches are paying attention to all of us to make sure we are moving safely and exercising to our fullest potential. The events are fun and informative, they always include healthy snacks. If you desire to be part of a happy, healthy, active community this gym is for you.

I’ve been a member of OSi for about 18 months and find the workout regimen to be second to none. I am a past member of two other gyms in the area and I didn’t know how good a workout could be until I worked out with the coaches at OSi. Their caring approach to fitness demonstrates their commitment to the well being of their clients. Their various level programs, including Amazing 12, Senior Movement and Teen Strength and Movement, create an awareness of strength training at every age and capability level. I’ve been coming to OSI for almost 6 months, and I can’t imagine being a member anywhere else! I’ve done a mix of personal 1:1 training, small group training and group classes and can honestly say the quality of both the instructors and the curriculum is top notch. I’ve been a member of quite a few gyms over the years, and I feel the strongest I’ve ever felt by far in 6 months than I ever did elsewhere. The trainers (esp shout out Cathy!) truly care about your success, whatever that means to you and whatever your starting point is, and they approach your growth with intentionality AND empathy. The community of members is welcoming, and I truly enjoy coming here throughout the week. First of all, I live about 45 minutes from Fuquay . A friend told me about O.S.I. in 2013 after I hurt my knee. On my first personal training visit with Tim Anderson, I asked "What kind of gym is this?"when I entered the building. After my assessment, I knew this was a PERSONAL training session...not a cookie cutter one. Within a month, I was completely better and continued with O.S.I. until work kept me away in 2015.
I returned a couple of months ago to train with Tim because of limited motion in my shoulder after surgery and many sessions in physical therapy. I am 69 now. Within a month there was much improvement and now I am on my way to full usage of my shoulder, increased overall muscle mass, and much better overall movement...and energy.
ALL of this is WITHOUT all the exercise machines you see in corporate gyms. There are kettlebells, weights, sandbags, weighted sleds, etc
The amazing and effective methods used at O.S.I. are designed to work your body as nature intended the body to work.
They have a variety of classes and the instructors give attention to individual needs.
I see ages from teenagers to senior citizens in classes.
I love this gym because it is not like the big corporate gyms. It is individual focused!
Their method of training has taken off to a worldwide interest. Tim was invited to Japan earlier this summer and wirhin rhe same 2 weeks was invited to Las Vegas to share his method of training.
I am glad to be a part of this group that has grown from a small office space in Fuquay and had to size up space twice within about 13 years to being known globally!... and they know the names of everyone that is a part of O.S.I.

A few months ago if you would have told me that I would be going to a gym three days a week and that I would LOVE it, I never would have believed it! OSI has not only changed my outlook but also my body in only a few months! The trainers are amazing! So patient, thorough, and fun. I can’t even begin to describe how fortunate I am to have found OSI. I have always been athletic, but lacked the internal motivation to push myself further. OSI has made such a difference. Prior to joining OSI, I was struggling to do the things needed to get my mind and body where they needed to be to achieve my goals. From the first session with Virginia to actually signing up for a 3 month commitment with Coach Tristan, I’ve gained confidence that I AM ABLE to conquer my goals. All of the coaches are great!! This is my “happy” gym.
The best review that I can give is sharing my personal story with OSI.
I joined the gym in October of 2024 after a 2 week trial. Shortly after I joined a group of team members for a “Thanksgiving Challenge”
I needed to get back to a routine of taking time for me. The last 5 years, my recent job took over my life personally and mentally. I traveled 90% of time and enough was never enough. It was time to take my life back. Quitting that job was the first step. I next started to look for a gym and trainers. Working out accountability is so big for me. Getting back to food prep and having a better feel for how much protein I needed with a healthy nutrition. They teach you about “real” clean nutrition, not gimmicks or the latest fad diet or pills. It takes work but if you’re committed they are committed to you. It becomes a way of life, not a struggle or a fight that you’re always fighting with no results.
My 2 big goals were some weight loss and strength as well as not drinking every evening.
So far I lost 8 lbs in 3 months and my goal was 7 lbs. I learned so much such as, weight fluctuates specially for women due to a variety of reasons. Most importantly is that I lost inches and I fit back into my size 4 work suits and everything fits better.
I also stopped drinking during the week. I thought wine was a stress reliever and it becomes a very bad habit.
I feel healthy, feel good about me as a person, my professional confidence has also gone up, I have clarity, I practice gratitude. I also take time for mindfulness.
I couldn’t have done this without all of the wonderful team of trainers. I work with Cathy but every is phenomenal. I started with Chris and he took the time to help me with the movement, resets and the workouts. I’ve been to many gyms and worked with a couple of trainers that were great, however the level of detail for using the right form and movement was lacking. They have a philosophy that’s true and proven. They teach you about nourishing your body and mind.
I love what OSI stands for and every one is so committed to us and our goals.
They have many programs and options based on every one’s needs and situations.

We've been with OSI for several years. We started at the original facility... we're now at the new and improved "digs", and this place just keeps getting better. The facilities are excellent, the teaching philosophy is spot-on, the staff fully understand the physiology and details of the human body, they understand the personal challenges and restrictions of each their members, and their coaches are all experienced, super smart, personable, motivational and positive.
And they have pickleball, personal nutrition, private training and physical therapy ... which I can personally speak to... I had rotator cuff surgery a few years ago. I went through PT with Kurt, and I have 100% range of motion have zero pain of any kind.
Life is not a dress rehearsal ... our physical and mental health is critically important to us, and OSI thinks the same way.
They are great positive motivators, and awesome people!

So....2023 not a good year BUT 2024
much better, in part to OSI and their staff.
In 2023, I had open heart surgery, born with bicuspid aortic valve, had no clue, all of my 58 years on this earth, until I passed out from sprinting. Recovered from this,
3 months later, motorcycle accident!
5 broken ribs, scapula and deflated lung.
I knew when I healed from all of that, what I needed was a place AND people, that would work with me to help me get back into shape, encourage me to push myself, but also not over do so I could achieve my goals.
I am eternity gratful for OSI, Dani, Tim, LAURA, 😊 Jayne, Will, Trisian and all the staff. I can not say enough GOOD about this place, people and the vibe they have going. Want to get healthy, this is the place!

I came to OSI because I had been in a rut with my workouts and was in serious need of help with nutrition. A friend invited me for a session and I was immediately hooked. I couldn’t remember the last time I enjoyed a workout so much. The culture there is so great, everyone, trainers and members, are so encouraging of one another. This is not your ordinary gym it’s do much better! The trainers that teach the class are top notch in their field. They are always watching your form to make sure you are doing the exercise correctly. This alleviates injury! Unable to do an exercise, they give an alternate. I joined OSI mid April, I have gym anxiety and when I walked into OSI all the staff was so welcoming. I completed my success session with Coach Tristan, he took his time to explain everything and how OSI worked. I left the session with my first class scheduled for that same day! Original Strength Institute is an awesome gym!! I always assumed small gyms were strictly for men with large biceps and quads!!! LOL!!! OSI is not like that at all....its a place that you can learn about your body, how to move, and get stronger. It is a friendly environment where you get one-on-one support whenever you need it. The classes are small enough that the coaches can help you and answer questions. The classes are different enough to keep your interest and still allow you to accomplish your goals. When I started at OSI, I thought I was too old and that I probably would only go for a few months and then drop out like most other gyms I have gone to over the years. I also could barely get up from the couch without limping or hurting for at least a few steps. Well, I have now been attending this gym for almost 3 years and I have gone to classes at least 3 times a week for most of that time. I can pop up off the couch with no pain or limping, I have lost weight but more importantly have gained strength and flexibility. I sleep better and I have more energy. I feel better now than I did 25 years ago! Their approach is: Start Where You Are, Do What You Can. So this gym is for anyone. If you have physical limitations, they will work with you and provide adjustments that will allow you to still participate in the activities and classes. The coaches are all excellent in what they do and the OSI Resets are a game changer. They seem too simple to make a difference, but they make all the difference in the world! So come out and try a few classes! This gym is for anyone and it will help anyone to improve flexibility, strength and mental toughness! Its one of the best decisions that I have ever made!

Finished a second 8 week block of “Foundations of Strength”. I’ve increased my endurance a huge amount, and it’s helped with normal aches and pains. Strength-wise, I’ve found many exercises highlight areas that are weak, adjacent to areas that are strong. I wanted to lose weight, but am happy with seeing my waistline shrink at the same weight instead. Making progress overall and really enjoy the classes and coaching.

Chris and the rest of the team at OSI are fantastic. I was definitely someone that never went to the gym because I thought I couldn’t keep up. I was worried about getting injured and didn’t think I could do the cardio. Chris, changed that for me to the point where I went from never going to attending 5:30am classes 3 times a week. The small group trainings helped me get in shape and feel better- and I never felt like I was in anyone’s way. They have a lot to offer from; kettlebells and strength building to eating healthy and self defense, there really is something for everyone. I can’t imagine going anywhere else. I started this club with chronic pain (old neck fracture), neurological dysfunction, low energy, etc. They motivated, encouraged, and challenged me to where I am today. The reset approach truly addressed and corrected a LOT of my spinal and neurological issues. That second pic is after an hour session today that I dare to call FUN! This place is an amazing community of staff and members where you will truly feel welcome and cared for whatever age or level you are starting with... Invest in yourself and do it here at OSI! 💕

I spent over a decade going between different big box gyms, office gyms, home workout routines, you name it. I never felt like I was getting anywhere with my fitness goals. I had just canceled a membership at another local gym when my wife introduced me to this “kinda like a gym, but not really, but super phenomenal” place called OSI when it all changed. I realized what I needed was a support system and community, which at OSI, the community of people often feels like a family. You will discover that working out doesn’t have to be boring. For me, I am in better shape now in my almost 40s than I was in my 20s and that’s thanks to the amazing programming offered and the coaches and friends I’ve met at OSI. I even took part in a 12 week transformation program that showed me I can do hard things. OSI has been one of the biggest blessings in my life. I started coming a little in 2020 back in covid times and I fully became a member in August of 2021! I wanted to start loving the gym and OSI made it so easy. The coaches here taught me how great working out can be. As a professional dancer with Carolina ballet it’s so important to cross train. Training at OSI I have learned so much about my body and what it’s capable of! It’s literally like you are being personally trained. I never ever regret going!! The coaches inspire me daily! They are always right there to answer any questions I need or help me in anyway they can. The environment is so positive and joyful!! And that’s so important for a gym! I love OSI! The people, the place but most of all how I feel when I leave the gym! A friend invited me to come try a class last summer and since then I've known OSI was my place. The staff make sure I don't hurt myself (which I'm prone to doing), set reasonable goals, ensure my technique and weight are correct AND they encourage me. Other people in the classes with me also encourage me and the class sizes are small which I love. I never feel like I'm watching the clock to finish class and it's the fastest hour of my day. I can feel myself getting stronger and I love it!

I’ve had 3 sessions so far with Tim to help build strength in my spinal muscles after suffering from pain. I had to have my lumbar facet joint nerves ablated due to the pain in those joints; but the muscles took a beating. I was looking for a place that wasn’t your typical PT place. I knew I needed something different. From day 1, Tim has been encouraging and positive. Reminding me this can be solved, he has seen it be solved, and it will happen in time. I keep trusting those words. The exercises are taking me slightly out of my comfort zone, but I think Tim knows it’s safe; sure enough I haven’t had setbacks with the exercises. I look forward to the next session and continuing to build upon the previous.

Original Strength Institute feels different from the moment you walk in. The coaches are all so friendly and knowledgeable and truly take interest in each member of the gym. The other members become your teammates and are so encouraging as well. They have everything in place to help any individual succeed no matter where you are at in your health and fitness journey. I also love that they offer different challenges and programs you can sign up to do if you choose to. I completed a couple 6 weeks challenges and they helped me to make better nutrition choices and build a platform for meal planning and provided me with a team of people who held me even more accountable to showing up every day. These programs are great! The trainers are all well equipped to help and offer solutions to deal with nagging injuries that may be hindering you from exercise also. They provide modifications to exercises for every ability. They really make sure you know they want you to succeed and they celebrate every gain and success right along with you and are truly just as excited as you are when you hit your goals. The whole experience is great and will leave you actually excited to go to the gym! If I could rate more than 5 stars I would!

Depending on your preference/learning style - they have 1-on-1 personal training; small group training; group classes & if you are traveling or outside the area they have online classes you can take.

This class is brilliantly set up to be progressed & is customizable for each member
An instructor is there to help you individualize your program, give you feedback, and encourage you to complete your version of their Foundation of Strength Program.

The name says it all. No confusion. You know what you are getting.

In this class Tim had us slow down our movements to explore them and better own your movements.

Being a member of the OSI fitness gym has truly been life changing. It is unlike any other gym I have attended, in that the staff truly believes in starting to work with you wherever you are at in your journey. They are encouraging and incredibly knowledgeable as well, making sure to tailor exercises and movements so that they appropriately challenge you. I also really appreciate that the gym and the trainers focus on building strength and restoring vitality. A great side effect of that is that I look great too! - and have also lost a significant amount of weight, and I am wearing clothes that I have not been able to wear in years. OSI has great classes, and they have special programs, too. I recently finished their Amazing 12 program, and absolutely enjoyed lifting weights and bringing a more disciplined eye to my diet. In the 9 months that I've been a member, I feel that I have greatly restored my overall health, and I am so much stronger, healthier, and confident. A lot of thought is given to the workouts, scheduling, challenges, and community. OSi isn’t just located in Fuquay, it is part of the community and enhances it. The staff cares that people in the community have a place not just to work out but to be a part of a family that has fun together while working out and getting to our best or back to our best after life happens. For all of your physical therapy / PT needs either after surgery, an injury or for any aches and/or pains, Kurt Brooks at OSI is the real deal.
I had major rotator cuff repair surgery last fall and went to Kurt for physical therapy/ PT weekly for a couple months.
While it wasn't easy, Kurt Brooks absolutely knows his stuff and directed me through every step of the process.
I have 100% mobility, 100% range of motion, and ZERO pain of anykind. I don't even know my shoulder is there anymore which is awesome! ... it's automatic!

I recently joined OS Institute and have really enjoyed their philosophy on working out. The exercises are focused toward helping you be strong and fit for everyday movements. I haven't felt pressured to perform at a certain level and they have met me where I am physically (8 months post partum!). I joined OSi in 2019 at age 60 because my daughter ( an Exercise Science major researched and decided the OSi program was the best option!). The consistent acceptance and encouragement from the trainers and other members helped me find my groove so that wellness and movement are part of my lifestyle now. Two years later and I'm stronger and more balanced than I was at 35, have lost 30 pounds, developed much better eating habits due to the 'challenges', "run" three 5 K because I enjoyed the team atmosphere, lowered my resting heart rate/cholesterol/blood sugar, learned how to de-stress, and been motivated to try other new activities with active friends. OSi is a wellness community - not just a gym! Literally anyone can start where they are and do what they can in every class. My favorite workout time is populated by people from age 30 to 65 and no one feels out of place or out of step!

I have been going to OSI for the last few years, and it has been life changing! The folks at OSI know exactly what they're doing and they do it really well! It's not the weightlifting and/or "body building" that we may typically think of. We fo lifts weights and we do "build" our bodies, but for me, it's all about proper fitness, proper strength building, and mobility, and flexibility. I'm 62 years old. I work out twice week and have every bit of the flexibilty and strength to do anything I want every day without any problems! Physically and mentally I feel great! I highly recommend OSI!

I've been a member for three years now. I expected to gained strength and endurance from a gym but what I did not expect to gain was a family! The coaches are knowledgeable and so easy to work with! I have been going to OSI for a few weeks now and each time I go, I get a great full body workout in under an hour. By the end of the workout, I feel exhausted and satisfied. The workouts help me to get whole body stronger for every day, practical movement. The trainers always make sure you're doing the exercises correctly and give you tips to make it easier or more difficult so you can work out at your own level. They'll push you but they won't make you feel bad if you need to grab some water and air. It feels like a community and it's honestly the best gym I've ever been a part of.

I started at OSI in June of this year and could not be happier with my gym experience!! I was hesitant of joining a regular gym where I would be working out on my own so I put off joining anywhere. When I walked into OSI to get information I knew I found the right place! It is not overwhelming, and you have instruction of what you are doing! The instructors are awesome and make sure your technique is on point. For years I was in and out of physical therapy for SI joint paint and foot pain so I knew I couldn't just go anywhere. Since joining OSI I've only had soreness pain from getting a good workout, but no back or foot pain! They say that the things we need to work on most are not those in which we excel, but those in which we struggle. This place will make you struggle. I joined because I was bored with my typical gym routine. You can not get bored here. You are constantly doing new things so you don't plateau and it stays fresh. If you are trying to be the next Mr. Olympia or all you care about is how much you can bench, then not the place for you. But if you want to build functional strength, balance, flexibility, and general well-being, then give them a try.

We joined looking for a place where the kids and parents could work out and spend time together. They had a family class that fit us perfectly.
