I have been a student for more than 10 years. No matter the injury or surgery, we work together to get moving again. I have had to learn how to walk with new knees and I am taller and happier than ever! Every year is worth celebrating!

I really enjoy visiting this studio for my workouts. My instructor Cat is the best! It is challenging to learn something new, but I love that my body is getting stronger and healthier with each visit.

The owner Laney and the entire staff have been extremely warm and welcoming. The studio has a great community vibe.

I highly recommend giving them a try!

This is the best Pilates I have found in Charlotte. As a former professional dancer, I tend to be highly critical of instructors but this experience exceeded any of my expectations. Laney could spot every compensation or substitution my body tried to pull and cued and reduced resistance and repeated until I got it right. The session wasn’t a workout class but an exercise in movement efficiency and postural alignment. I left feeling taller and more balanced in my body. I highly recommend this studio.

Recently I visited Charlotte, North Carolina, and found this world-class studio. Traditional Pilates is athletic and demanding. During my lesson, I worked diligently to accomplish the goals of every exercise while I enjoyed some good humor along the way. Pilates pro, Laney Abernethy, and the entire team are some of the most highly trained teachers---and teacher trainers---on the planet. I am thrilled and thankful to find PBS and experience the goodness, the fun, the excellence of a terrific workout! Infinite thanks for preserving Classical Pilates at the highest levels, and I hope to return soon!! Carry onward and upward!!

I love this place. The instructors are super knowledgeable, encouraging, and helpful. During the pandemic, I have kept up my individual mat sessions over Zoom and my instructor has been a gem.

Wonderful detailed and compassionate instruction. I joined classes today and they help immensely with keeping the body and mind attuned during this time. I lived in Charlotte 20 years go and have missed it. I love that I can rejoin the studio remotely from Denver! Highly recommend the passes the studio will be offering to stream classes, join us, receive support, stay healthy by connecting body-mind-spirit-community and raise your vibration!

I've been practicing and teaching at this studio for over 20 years. I found it quite by accident back when it was the ONLY dedicated space for yoga in Charlotte. Hard to believe right? with studios on practically every corner now. Classes are still small with lots of individual guidance and attention. You will be asked to stretch your mind as well as your body. As Iyengar was quoted to say.. β€œYoga does not just change the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees.”

Two years ago I decided to add yoga to a Pilates regimen. Knowing next to nothing about yoga in general and zero about Iyengar yoga in specific, it took no time at all to fall in love with this studio and the owner/teacher Phyllis Rollins. Because of a traumatic illness, I attend the gentle yoga class. This is not baby yoga or yoga lite! Phyllis' tremendous knowledge of the human body and its systems coupled with mastery of Iyengar yoga provides the opportunity for anyone to practice and progress under her teaching and supervision. The decision to check out this studio is the best one I've made for my physical and spiritual health. I love this place and always look forward to "Yoga Day".

I am half way through a beginner's class at 8th Street Yoga Studio and I have been happy and impressed with my experience. The studio is not a hot studio, which was #1 on my list of needs. The instructors are highly trained, a requirement of Iyengar Yoga certification. Best of all, the classes are small and student focused. Other classes/studios I have experienced have mostly been big machines that push 50+ people in a studio with little to no individual attention. I am very glad I tried 8th Street.

When I first moved to Charlotte, I was so happy to know that there was an Iyengar Yoga studio here. I've been practicing yoga for over 20 years--and while I've dabbled in other styles occasionally--in my experience, nothing comes close to the precision, depth, and effectiveness of the Iyengar approach. The quality of the teachers in this discipline is top-notch. This of course includes the extraordinary teachers at The Yoga Center, home to the only three certified Iyengar Yoga teachers in Charlotte. This place may be Charlotte's best kept secret! If you are looking for the real deal when it comes to yoga, look no further than The Yoga Center.

I have known Phyllis Rollins, owner and teacher of the yoga part of the studio for many years. Up until an injury that interupted my classes I was a regular once a week guy with beginning and slightly more demanding classes. Phyllis is a wonderful teacher who was helpful ,encouraging and wise with the problems and challenges of older students. She is always able to provide needed props and positions to accomodate physical limitations whether coming from injury or illness. I have seen many younger folks in her advanced classes being guided by her as well. Her training in Iyengar yoga has taken her to India- hers was one of the first yoga studios in Charlotte.

I am sure she is appreciated by many. For me it is delightful to have such a joyful, funny teacher who is caring and instructive. I have talked myself into more mindfulness just writing this review and will return again to work through and with my injured body and mind.

And.. she will greet me with little judgement and an open heart.
