Subject: Concern About Removal of Ellipticals

Dear Planet Fitness Management,

I’m reaching out regarding the recent removal of the ellipticals at this branch. There was plenty of space before, and the gym was never overcrowded. Yet two-thirds of the ellipticals were removed and replaced with more stair masters, squat racks, and stationary machines. I was told this change was due to complaints about people feeling looked at—but was there a survey or any community input to support this decision?

This should be a community gym where all members’ voices are considered, not just a small segment. Reducing the ellipticals to a single row has created unnecessary scarcity and frustration. It’s disheartening to drive here only to turn around and leave because no machines are available.

I would like to speak with management about this matter and understand the reasoning behind these changes.

I was discriminated against by a member complaining to an employee about me. When I confronted the employee about this, he gaslighted.

All that, "no critics", "no judgment", "you belong" propaganda means nothing when employees refuse to uphold it. I feel uncomfortable in these gyms as a result and would no longer recommend them.

In general, I love going to the different locations. The one in Cary was not do great. It appears like nobody puts their equipment back. Several missing dumbells out of a number of sets. Mats on the floor in various areas with Noone around using them. Used paper towels in several areas, just thrown on the floor.

This is my "home" gym. I travel frequently, so sadly, I only go a few times a month. This location is clean (one of the cleanest I've seen), well stocked, and the equipment is always in good maintenence. The staff is excellent here! You're not just a faceless member of you don't want to be. A special shout out to Jason because he's always so pleasant and willing to have a small chat about your day! He has an amazing attitude and I really appreciate that!! Also, I witnessed people feeling bullied here and the staff stepped in immediately to diffuse the situation! I feel safe to do what I need to do here!

Great gym. It's about average in size compared to other planet. Fitnesses. And has the same typical yellow room, fitness room, stretching room and general gym room. Plenty of machines to always be able to use one. Smith machines are a little limited with the number of people doing hip thrusts. And on Mondays bench press. Plenty of dumbbells, but we could have a few more benches. New equipment such as the lying leg press and hack squat are amazing.

How this location has this many stars is beyond me. This is the second time I’ve attempted to cancel at this location and it has been HELL every time. They wanted me to pay a buy out fee for my 12 month membership in which I got a year ago today. Absolutely insane. I have been to many Planet Fitness centers across the United States and none are as expressive as the Cuviers. It’s a great gym that got newly renovated because it’s typically very busy, staff are awesome and pretty chill people.

A couple of things though:

If it had to be renovated, it’d be great if the entry/exit had automatic doors. Because it’s so busy you can get stuck at the front door holding it open or you would crash into people exiting / entering. It’s kinda annoying, like I’ll sometimes see a group of people bombarding the exit/entry and I’ll just wait for that crowd to clear so I could just leave lol

They got a second water fountain station (finally this is a common problem in ALL gyms having ONE area to get water) BUT it’s located in the far back side “yoga” stretching area so if you want to avoid the main water fountain by the restrooms because most of the time there’s some annoying person there filling a giant jug of water and you’re forced to wait behind them for 5 minutes then your other option is to climb over the people stretching and on the ground to get water since it’s in an obscure area. Not the best design choice for a gym, should’ve put it by the front if possible could’ve saved money that way and with 4 fountains people likely could get a drink and keep it moving

Leg day machines almost always are either broken because people can’t use them properly or there’s lazy people just sitting on them for hours. Not minutes, but hours. Just do your workout and again keep it moving. It’s also awkward when you’re by the bench area using dumbbells and you have a flock of people just watching you workout and they’re sitting on those machines for too long, I honestly try to ignore it but still don’t be creepy just workout and move along honestly sometimes I do it anyway, move my weights and focus on what I’m doing.

People not lifting and just talking taking up space and equipment. It’s cool to socialize but don’t be standing in an area forever talking to your friends like go outside or something, cause your in the way or worse occupying equipment that could be used but isn’t because you’re in the way. Workout and talk, get something done for your body

Influencers recording with those tripods. Like no, I don’t want to be recorded, honestly come super early or super late at night when the gym is DEAD honestly this one is uncomfortable and it’d be great for Planet Fitness to ban this altogether because are people actually recording themselves or others? Like I had to move myself away from someone who setup a tripod and phone next to me and I’m just like “go away” honestly it’s just rude, would you like to be caught up in a recording and to have no say cause it randomly happened? Doubt it

It would be cool if the showers area could be more private compared to Crunch Fitness, where crunch has a more closed off shower area in Cameron village and creedmoor crunch where urinals and restrooms, changing / locker areas are closed off somewhat by walls, the men’s locker room at least, I can’t speak for women’s, is very open. They changed the tile to a whiter color so combined with the lights it’s uncomfortable to just change in the locker room or shower because you feel more exposed and in the open. Really bad design decision there like there’s less privacy you feel. I leave sweaty and change at home and shower there but if you want to shower and feel more hygienic it’s not here. Plus barely any guys know how to wash their hands so I’m sure most guys aren’t bothered but if you don’t want to smell like sweaty balls sorry you’re under a spotlight ngl but ignore it well and you still could with the paper thin shower curtains and lack of privacy

Otherwise it’s a good gym with several pet peeves but it’s got everything you need to get the job done and that’s the point

This Planet Fitness is great! The staff are extremely friendly and hard working. The gym is always clean and the locker rooms are pretty clean, as well. They did a big upgrade and added more equipment with plenty areas to workout. It has everything you need for your fitness goals. The dumbbells go up to 75lbs. (The only thing better would be if they added heavier dumbbells or free weights.)
There aren't a lot of weirdos here either, Cary is a decent place and the gym has done a good job of discouraging the riff raff.

Recently got a membership and I've been enjoying my time there so far.

The machines appear to be clean with some older units showing cosmetic wear and tear but only a few generally out of service. There are a good number of sanitation stations and paper towel dispensers to help promote members wiping down equipment after use and it seems most people are courteous to do so.

I don't use the showers there; although I have seen a couple out of service.
The men's locker room is generally clean with a couple of lockers having broken hinges.

This location also has several massage chairs and hydromassage tables for black card members which are kept clean and in good condition. They're very refreshing to use after a workout.

Functional as a cheap gym in the area. There's plenty of cardio equipment, and the strength equipment is well maintained. But there are only two rowers.

The men's shower needs more work. Always messy with bits of paper towels, and the toilet paper has been missing a few times. And there's no place to change next to the showers? No benches or seating in the shower, so drying off and changing is awkward. There's often contention for the two toilets during busy hours.

Everyone is talking about friendly staff and that was not the case for my friend and I. When we arrived I ask the young lady up front to explain to my friend the current specials to join the club. I am already a member. She didn’t acknowledge my friend which is I her 60’s and was telling me that i could join online. I said please explain to her and she replied “I was telling you because you were the one who asked”. Anyway she started to tell the deals to my friend showing she was impatient to finish the talk. My friend went ahead and joined the gym since is going to be beneficial for her and I to workout together. When we finished the workout, she said to me that the only reason she joined the club was because of me, that she felt very bad about the way she was treated. By the way this happened on March 29th 2025 about 4:30 pm. Older people deserve to be treated with respect.

Our home gym in Dunn, has treats for HALO and they made her, her own member page.

The front desk staff are always super friendly and helpful, the company needs to spend money on fixing the womans showers!!! The Disabled shower has been broken for a long time and the other showers they have - have ZERO water pressure and cheap plastic rods that have basically been held up by themselves. Shame on you Planet Fitness for not spending money on the facilities. There are other PF's that have nicer showers that work well. Bathrooms have been pretty dirty as of late. Planet fitness responded very generically- this is NOT equipment it the showers - poorly designed and maintained woman’s showers and it honk the staff already know about this !!

I was squatting with a free standing barbell for 10 years with no issues before switching to planet fitness. My max was 340 lbs. I don’t have the upper body strength to squat 340 using dumbbells. So, I tried the smith machine. I researched the correct form prior to using the smith machine, and still injured my spine. Smith machine squats are not safe.

Been a member here from January 2019 until March 17, 2020 and had a relatively good experience here even though there are way too many women working out. After the pandemic I decided to work out in my own house and neighborhood and sometimes go to the aquatics and fitness center. Planet Fitness is first of all 6.5 miles from my house which is a long drive and second it is way too crowded and some shady people of both genders which makes me feel uncomfortable or even unsafe at times. I wish planet fitness all the best and hope to possibly join again in the future if they open up in West Cary. Thanks and wishing everyone all the best. :)

Update 1/19/25- had an above average experience here pre pandemic and raising to 4 stars but removed 1 star since it is so far from my house and like I said I don't feel safe outside at night on my own. This Planet Fitness is one of the most crowded gyms I’ve been too. Very limited equipment for the amount of people that come to this gym. If you come around their busy time 6AM or 5pm-8pm expect to be waiting 10 ish minutes to use an over crowded machine. The later at night you go the worst the staff gets. They wouldn’t let me use any of the hydromassage chairs or whole body massage chairs at 10pm. The staff member was too busy on FaceTime with her earbuds in to even realize I was standing in front of her needing assistance to turn on one of the chairs. She refused and said they aren’t letting people use the machines later at night? Isn’t this an extra perk that I pay more for a month? Really disappointed in this Planet Fitness location.

I am irritated with my recent experience regarding the billing practices at this gym. I signed up with the expectation that my annual fee of $49 would be automatically charged to my credit card, However, I discovered an additional $15 late fee tacked onto my account, bringing the total to $64.

What’s particularly maddening is the complete lack of communication surrounding this issue. I was never informed of any payment failure until it was far too late. The gym's refusal to waive the unjust late fee, despite my attempts to resolve the situation, is simply unacceptable. It feels as though they are more interested in penalizing members than fostering a supportive environment.

This experience has left me deeply disappointed and questioning my membership. I urge potential members to be cautious and consider whether this is the kind of service you want to engage with.

So upset with the recent change. The 30 min workout space is the BEST thing about Planet Fitness and the entire reason I joined. It was a nice little cozy cove where I knew exactly what to do for a quick and effective workout with tabata-like bursts of cardio and weights. Perfection. They've been "upgrading" that area for two months and I've been waiting for it to be open again, hoping they were just replacing the machines with the nicer ones the other locations have.... They've completely gotten rid of the 30 min circuit instead 😭😭😭 Dragged my depressed self out of bed to do that today, was so excited to feel good about doing this one little thing, checked in and found out it was gone and walked right back out. The entire benefit of the 30 min circuit is knowing you can accomplish this one thing with ease, very wonderful for low mood days. There's not another Planet Fitness near me either so this is pretty upsetting. Guess I'm not going back to the Cary location right by my house anymore.

I visited for the first time today and it’s the most beautiful Planet Fitness I’ve ever been to. However, the attendant was missing from about 1am to 3am. Recent renovations have made the facility much roomier. I enjoy how well all of the machines are maintained.

I had to go in today to cancel my membership and I was full of angst because I have heard over and over again how they make it hard, keep charging you, make you feel bad etc. Well I dealt with Trevor and not only was he amazing, but he emailed my confirmation to me and made the whole thing easy. He was a kind, polite, and all around wonderful. 10 stars if possible!

Absolutely Love it here!! The staff is amazing always very helpful explaining all the machines if needed the cleanliness of the facilities is perfect! Everyone is so welcoming!!

It's refreshing walking in at 6am and seeing a friendly face like Briannas. She never misses the opportunity to smile and acknowledge every person that walks past her at the front desk.
