My daughter has enjoyed many years participating in the afterschool program at PCG and it has been a wonderful experience. She has built many special bonds with the coaches and will miss going each week as she moves on to 6th grade. She made many memories, and I was able to focus on work while knowing she was in a safe and caring environment. Many thanks to Coach Ricky and his awesome staff!!!

Great gymnastics facility with an excellent staff. Preschool Play is a fun way for toddlers to develop locomotor skills.

Update as of 2/12/25 - I received a phone call from Brent, the owner, and we discussed communication improvements surrounding allergy protocols as they are in place, we just unfortunately didn’t get all the information. I am changing my review from 1 star to 3 after the effort on the owners part and will give PCG another chance in a future intersession.

- - -

We had a negative experience during Fall 2024 Intersession. I emailed the following to Ricky and never got a response.

Hi Ricky,
I wanted to take some time to process my thoughts and feelings after my daughter spent the three week Eaton intercession at Port City Gymnastics before sending you an email.

You and I spoke in advance about my daughter’s allergies and you assured me your staff was trained to handle allergies including the use of the epi pen.

On the second day of the first week, when I dropped Charlie off (her dad dropped her off the first day) the girl at the front desk asked me if I had the epi pen or if yall had the epi pen. This was concerning as she had already been there a day and the staff member didn’t know where it was. You came up and said “We have it” and showed me the bag.

I chocked it up to being the first week but on the last day of the last week when I dropped her off, I asked a different girl at the front desk if Charlie’s epi pen could be ready for me to take with me at the end of the day/pick up since would be back in school the following week. She asked me if I just wanted to take the epi pen with me then. I told her no because if something happened that day then yall wouldn’t have an epi pen. She should have known this.

At pickup the last day I asked a different girl if I could have Charlie’s epi pen and she told me she wasn’t sure where it was. She started rummaging through a cabinet on the wall to the right of the check in/out desk and then over at the counter. You walked in and she asked you where it was and you gave it to me. This girl I recognized as having been at camp most days which means the person watching my child had no idea where her epi pen was.

These interactions are incredibly alarming to me as an allergy parent. As I’m sure you are aware, in the event of an allergy emergency, the faster the individual is epi’d the better. If my daughter had a reaction under you and your staffs care, her little body does not have time for the staff to rummage through cabinets to find the epi pen.

I am disappointed in my experience with Port City Gymnastics and the intersession camp. My daughter cannot be the first allergy PCG has encountered and so I would encourage you to beef up your allergy protocol so that all children feel safe to learn and play in your facility in the future.

Thank you.

My daughter just completed her first year in the competitive team and had an amazing experience. Coach Brook and Coach Alaina were amazing. They pushed them to do their best and encouraged them every step of the way. The owners, Brent and Chandra, are fantastic. They are super hands on and so great with communication to parents. We look forward to another great year this year!

Port City gymnastics is amazing. I have really seen my daughter thrive here. She has becoming more independent and really leaned into gymnastics and found her own here. The coaching and office staff and first class. Can’t recommend here enough!

I booked a birthday party for my 3 year old at Port City Gymnastics. I got the package that includes cake, decorations, etc. It was literally EVERYTHING I wanted and MORE out of a birthday party for a toddler. Everyone had a blast and the 2 girls that worked there were amazing. They were so helpful. My husband and I were able to focus on celebrating our son. Thank you PCG!!

We held our daughter’s 5th birthday party at Port City Gymnastics and everybody has a blast. There was so much for the children to do, and they kept busy with all sorts of fun obstacle courses, running, jumping, and whatever else it’s called. The staff at PCG made this a memorable event for our family and they even helped out with the setup and cleanup.

We definitely recommend checking them out if you’re looking for a unique birthday party for your child.

We absolutely love Coach Adam. He has such an encouraging and patient heart for the kids. He has been so good for our son. I recommend his class to all our friends who have wiggly kids that need a little support. This class has been such a blessing to our family. Our son has grown so much in his physical development because of this class.

I am very disappointed in the professionalism of port city gymnastics. We tried a class and the class seemed fine, but when I asked about future options for males at their organization they informed me that they only trained for women's events which I completely understand. I asked if there were other locations in wilmington that offered male event Training an equipment. Instead of saying that they did not know the answer they informed me that nowhere else in Wilmington North Carolina had male event or equipment. I reached out to the USA gymnastics association who directed me to the competitor For port city gymnastics which is less than a mile from their Location. I could have kept my kiddos at port city for a few years as I was only curious about future year options, but this type of unethical business practice is a no go for me. It's about people. Take care of people, be HONEST,and the rest will take care of yourself. Don't want anyone to go to your competitor? Then say " I don't know" - don't lie.

Port City Gymnastics is amazing. Jessi, who is the lead instructor, always goes above and beyond. She truly loves what she does and it shines through to the rest of the staff. The rest of the staff is also amazing, and my girls (ages 5 and 3) love coming here. They would come more if I would let them! We attended another gym in the area first (we were on Port City’s waiting list for a year!) but the kids did not enjoy the other facility nearly as much. Now that we are here, I understand why the waiting list is so long! They are sticklers on technique but also while keeping it fun (no easy feat.) The class sizes are small and get really pay attention to each child :)

Absolutely love having my daughter enrolled here, she has a great time with her coach’s and thinks she is just having a great time while learning all the moves. They have great communication not only with parents but take time to talk each student if they are not giving them helpful hints all you’ll hear is “great job, keep going.. etc

This gym doesn’t offer what we were looking for but the person I spoke with was one of the most helpful I’ve spoken with at any business on the phone in ages. What a nice surprise. She also helped us find what we’re looking for. Gymnastics for a teenage boy. Thanks Port City Gymnastics 😃

My daughter had a lot of fun. She's a little young at 16 months, but she enjoyed running around, and it certainly tired her out. My main issues were that the gym was a little dirty, and they are only open from 9-11:30 for open gym, but since they have classes going on, they can't stay open long. I can't say we'll be going back, mainly because I brought my daughter the first time, and knowing that my nephews had a vacation coming up, I asked the woman at the front desk if there was an age restriction, and she said no. When I took them the following week ( they are 9 and 7), was told that only children under 5 could play. So we ended up going to power of play right around the corner.
