Good gym. Setting is on par with classic outdoor climbs and grades seem fair. But, Progression really needs to obtain a commercial pad system. Current pads seem to be just layers of builder grade foam, which move and soften quickly. This is my third review here (I was previously at five stars), and each review changes because of pad quality--pads were replaced but are now worn.

I used to take classes here before my injuries (nothing to do with the place) and find that I just in general love the atmosphere.
A very accepting place for queer people.

Went directly to management about inappropriate behavior from men. These incidents were dismissed. The practice of defending predatory men creates an environment where the routine violation of women is condoned and subsequently normalized. Women are not going to feel safe where their concerns are not taken seriously.
Gross negligence continues into the quality of the safety mats. The mats in the kilter board room have already caused sprained ankles or dislocated elbows but no changes have been made. The mats in the main room caused sprained ankles as well because they were not properly taped, causing the foot to go through the mats.

Good place for children and men. Inappropriate behavior towards women is normal and reinforced by management.
This gross negligence continues into the quality of the safety mats. The mats in the kilter board room have already caused sprained ankles or dislocated elbows but no changes have been made. The mats in the main room caused sprained ankles as well because they were not properly taped, causing the foot to go through the mats.
I paid for personal training sessions. He did not show up to all the sessions so he could play golf or leave town. Unfortunately the workouts were just following the crimpd app. The advice given included body comments and telling me I didnβt need to eat so much even though all my clothes are a size extra small. Yet despite not having weight loss goals, they were forced on me when he kept using the word βbigβ to describe me.
He would not accept my gym termination and tried to follow up with mutual contacts stating he was confused and needed more information.
I tried my best to tolerate it the best I could until it became impossible.
Please do better.

Itβs a small but very fun gym. The routesetters actually know what theyβre doing and set a variety of different route styles unlike other gyms you might find in the area. The employees are really friendly and the day passes are very affordable too. The only downside to this gym is the size, if the bouldering area were like double the current size I would immediately cancel my TRC membership and go here instead.

A gem of a gym. All bouldering, really decent day pass rate and 5 or 6 routes that entertained/challenged me for 45+ minutes despite the fact that I am very much a beginner, so much range- I would go to this place again. Had an actual over hang area. Small but sweet, you should go.

Left a blue Patagonia jacket after our climbing session; about an hour after leaving and realizing it was left behind, we called the front desk to ask about holding it until the next day. The front desk was very understanding and after pointing them to the exact cubby it was left in, we were reassured that it was located and locked away in the lost and found until we came by. However, after coming by to pick it up the following morning, it was gone. We were told that the front desk would ask management to take a look at the security recording to see who took it; however, management could not be bothered to do this and claimed the incident as a "misunderstanding". Was very disappointed with the handling of the situation, especially given the clear line of dialogue I had with the front desk in which the jacket was identified exactly and in the location it was left, yet somehow "lost" less than a day later.

My girlfriend and I started climbing a bit over two months ago, and we love it! Progression is the only gym we have experience with, but it's been very positive. The people are very friendly and supportive, and the routes are fun. The gym is fairly small, and it's only bouldering, but so far there have been enough routes to keep my gf and I interested and give us some variety at two visits per week. Routes are usually up for a few weeks before getting rotated out, and they usually replace a different section of wall each week.
Update, August 2022: Still climbing, still loving Progression! Great setting, great people, great vibe. Still smaller than TRC, but they added some walls during the COVID shutdown, including some additional slab and a cave. Awesome gym

Best indoor climbing option in the triangle. Great routes, extremely reasonable prices, and lovely people to be around. An awesome place to start climbing for the first time or to push yourself into more advanced levels. Plus, no ropes or harnesses makes for more climbing time, and, if youβre in a crunch, then quicker workouts! Highly recommend.

The only staff member that seemed to be in the building was curt and appeared annoyed that she actually had to do her job. It was my first time there and there was no tour of the facility or explanation on how to boulder. I didn't mind given I climb frequently, but I can see it being intimidating and a problem for new climbers. Space is small with a few walls and it fills up pretty quickly. Routes were ok but not much variation.

Iβve been climbing at Progression for almost 4 months now. Before then I had never climbed before and ordered Progressionβs Groupon that offered a free class + 2 weeks unlimited climbing (highly recommend). Linda was the best instructor! She was so patient and kind, taught us how to stay safe on the wall, and showed us fundamental techniques that built up my confidence over the two weeks. When I went, Iβd see Linda there and she climbed certain routes I was struggling, which really helped me figure out how to do it myself. I remained friends with the women I climbed with during our instructional lesson and decided to go for the membership essentially because of Linda, friends Iβd met, and the close-knit community Progression promotes.

I have been climbing for just under two months now and I absolutely love it. My friends dragged me to progression but I was hooked immediately. The gym environment is so incredibly supportive, even when I was struggling with the easier climbs in the gym, experienced climbers were offering advice and shouting encouragement. I am a babysitter and I started bringing in the two five year old boys I watch to come climb with me. The staff is always friendly and helpful with them and with me. I can't stress enough how amazing progression is!

I climbed here the better part of a year and was willing to put up with most of its problems during much of that time because of how friendly the other climbers are. However, nothing about the wall itself or the management of it is adequately done. The route setters are unimaginative, the youth club is actively encouraged to be disruptive and dangerous (often running underneath climbers on the wall) and the walls are tiny. Go to Triangle Rock Club instead. The children will drive you crazy here.

Progression has a nice sized bouldering wall with a very friendly atmosphere.
However, THE BIGGEST PROBLEM, is the children's club that runs Monday through Thursday from 4:30-6:30 (many times the kids arrive earlier and stay longer, so it is more like 4:00 to & 7:00). The supervisors do not control the children at all. All the time, children are jumping in ahead when there are already climbers are the wall. They also stay under climbers as the climb on the wall. After I finished a route, I dropped down and all of a sudden a little boy ran up and my head landed on his food. This is a massive safety issue for the children and adult climbers. The worst part is how the children are actively encouraged to do this. I have never seen any of the supervisors ever discipline the children.
They have this awful drill at the end where they have all the children do as many climbs as they possibly can. So, the children get even more crazy and frantic.
My partner and I have complained, but the supervisors have responded that it is hard to control them and that they are trying their best. This is not good enough. I have climbed at many different walls where they have children's clubs and have never seen such poor supervision and discipline of the kids. I don't blame the children, I blame the supervisors.
For this reason, my partner and I will be ending our membership at progression and moving to TRC when it opens. We are very sad to say goodbye, but due to our work timetables and the ill managed kid's club we feel like we have no other choice for the sake of our climbing enjoyment.

I love this place. There is something special about the community here. Everyone is kind and very helpful. Especially the staff. I have improve and learn more and more every time I go. I love it so much I ended up getting a membership!!!! Also, $40 a month is a steal if you go more than 4 times a month. I go sometimes between 40 min-2.5 hours.

Awesome budget gym for someone looking to train hard for climbing outside. The space may be small, but the route setting here is the best I've found anywhere, and routes are changed often enough that there are always plenty to work on. The regulars here are incredibly strong and skilled climbers who are always eager to give advice and help you improve. I really love the community and setting at Progression. I have been a recreational climber for a nunber of years now and was very excited to learn of a training gym right here in Chapel Hill. I have been here a couple of times now and have so far not been impressed. This past time I went for an overpriced day pass was escpecially memorable; about 6pm on a weekday evening and was "greeted" by a woman who seemed upset that I had disturbed her and made her move to the cash register. The gym is already far smaller than any other I have seen, with only a few walls and certainly not enough room for more than 8 climbers to be actively climbing at any given time. The reason for my review however is because on top of this fact, they had the after-school kids practicing in such fashion that they were encouraged to spread out and choose a route to independently work on (there are more than 6 kids so naturally they took up every wall), AND there was an employee attempting to set new routes at the same time. (They already barely give you a safety intro with zero instruction for new climbers on how to climb and fall safely so this concern may not be their top priority but I don't like having a guy with a power drill standing under me while I climb... IF I manage to get to the wall before a kid jumps in front.) Also, while the routes can be fun and challenging, they are not graded accurately at all-- I am a fairly weak climber and flashed a few V3s but struggled on a V1.
While I really really want to like this place and have a safe, fun, friendly climbing gym in the area, for now I still prefer my 30-40min commute to Triangle Rock Club in Morrisville, where they have expansive, respectful, and safety-oriented climbing experiences available.
