I have been a part of a lot of gyms and workout spaces, and this one has superseded my expectations and made me excited to move and strengthen my body again. I have been an athlete most of my life, but the last 10 years have fallen away from consistent workouts and felt it in my body. As a plus size woman, many gyms and trainers make the incorrect assumption that I cannot move, won't have the work ethic or don't have a body worth investing in. I have felt the opposite at Radical Movement. My trainer Cam (and I have witnessed Whit) combine expertise, encouragement and care to create an atmosphere where you can work hard and feel well at the same time. Anyone looking for a space to work out, for great people to work with and a community that truly believes wherever you are, you can work from there - this is the space for you.

In 2025 I made a commitment to myself to start strength training. I searched specifically for an inclusive and Black owned gym space and I'm happy to have found Radical Movement.

I primarily train with Whitney, but I have also done small group classes with Cam. Whitney and Cam are excellent trainers focused not just on training but technique to prevent injuries. They both make sure you're listening and honoring your body during every workout.

I've noticed a transformation in my body and have gained muscle (which was my goal) as well as lost inches. If you're looking for expert guidance in a welcoming, affirming space, I would highly recommend training at Radical Movement!

radical movement is my favorite space i have ever worked out in - plants, music, incense, books and two incredible trainers. over these months of working with whit, i have moved from feeling fear to feeling strength as my baseline, and i'm just getting started. the team is professional, clear, affirmative and pays deep attention to each body. i’m not just being run through exercises, but learning how to engage my whole body and be intentional with how i’m supporting each move. as a disabled queer black woman, i feel totally supported in radical movement.

Radical Movement is a portal, with Whitney and Camelle waiting on the other side, welcoming you to walk through and find possibility. I’m so glad I did. With Whitney’s gentle and expert guidance, and exceptional attention to form and flow, I’ve been able to deeply connect with my body and find strength I never knew was possible - both in and out of the gym. I leave each session feeling elevated and motivated, and overall it’s been a tremendously healing movement experience. The space itself is designed with care, lush with plants, books, sunlight, and the best tunes. Affirmations, joy, and laughter fill in the rest. It feels like luxury and love in there. Go get this medicine! You deserve it.

I’ve been training with Cam for nearly nine years, and it remains one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for my physical and emotional well-being. I was thrilled when she and Whit decided to open their own space, and it couldn't be a more perfect representation of the wonderful humans they are. I’m incredibly grateful that Radical Movement is here in Durham! I’m new to exercise and historically hate it or quit after a few sessions. Not with Radical Movement! Camelle and Whit create a safe, playful and connected space to work on movement and strength. Their breadth and depth of knowledge about movement/bodies and focus on meeting you right where you are, gently pushing to the next level is expressed as an art and a much studied skill combined. And…the vibes are great with plants, natural light and good music as work out companions! Highly recommend!

Radical Movement is a movement, a healing center, and a whole vibe! From the moment you enter the sacred-safe-space, you are surrounded with a sense of wellness, greenery, books, art and a dope soundtrack. The bright windows and sun filled open fitness area are both welcoming and warm. You will usually see at least one of the dynamic duo (Cam & Whit) as soon you enter. Their smiles and energy light up the room and although everyone training is working hard, they all seem to have a determined joy on their faces. All the equipment you want, all the expertise you need, Radical Movement is unlike any other “gym” I’ve been a part of. It’s not just customized personal training, it’s passion, precision…and frankly, a pleasure every time I have a session. Keep it up y’all and if you haven’t been in yet…you’re late!

Radical Movement is much more than a fitness studio—it’s a vibrant community hub and a safe space to connect with yourself and others. Camelle and Whitney are incredibly intentional in their approach, meeting clients exactly where they are and helping them create personalized, meaningful goals—no generic, one-size-fits-all plans here. I work one-on-one with Whitney and participate in their fantastic small group training twice a week. Every time I leave the studio, I feel uplifted, energized, and excited for the next session. Plus, the studio always smells amazing, and Camelle and Whitney’s playlists are absolute fire! Radical Movement truly stands out as the best in the business!

I can't overstate how wonderful Radical Movement is. I've been training with Camelle for 4 months, and have recommended her to family and friends. The space is intimate and fully stocked with all the equipment you could need, but the best part by far is working with a professional of Camelle's caliber. The sessions are challenging, creative, and fun, and her attention to detail and form makes such a difference in how you experience the movements and physical results. As a working parent I also really love that I can do a 30 minute sessions and get such a good workout in. If I could leave more stars, I would!

This is by far the best gym experience I have ever had! Whitney and Camelle have created such an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive fitness space. I have tried their classes, small group workouts, and personal training and they are all amazing. They take such care of each individual based on current ability and future goals. Love this gym. Was working with Camelle as a personal trainer beforehand. But the classes are just as good as the personal training sessions! They're excellent and kick your butt in the best way possible. I really like how she can modify for you based on your level/injuries.

I am thrilled to have found Radical Movement! It's a beautiful and well-equipped fitness space in downtown Durham. Great vibe and excellent work out (hello sweat!). The class was terrific! The instructor, Camelle, gave excellent direction and feedback. It's obvious that she has tons of experience leading group fitness and personal training. Radical Movement is a great option for folks looking for a bit more personalized attention and direction than is available at most exercise classes. And it was joyful and fun! I can't wait to go back and try another class.
