The sensei truly has so much knowledge and every class my son learns something new. I personally love how he shows his students how the tools and techniques he shows can be applied in everyday situations. It really makes a difference. Also, his wife who helps run the place is so incredibly nice and helpful. Highly recommend!

Love this dojo. I started in 2006 in China Grove. Great and Amazing people to be around. They take their time to go over the material. The other students help with that as well. I had to take a lot of time off every time I would go back they welcome back to classes like I never left. I had to take a longer break this time I had to be out for 11 years. Just last week after emailing Edie a couple times I went. I signed back up in September, it felt like I never left. Everyone that works there make sure you feel like family. I am so excited to be back.

Ricky Smith and Edie Smith are two of the most genuine and caring people I have ever met. They have helped so many children and adults gain confidence, focus and strength beyond the physical through their karate school and classes.

Everyone should know how excellent and encouraging this place is for anyone seeking to learn a new skill or just have some fun with martial arts.

They recently moved into much larger facility and are providing SO much more attention in the young people in their after-school program.

I cannot stress enough how competent are the instructors. Ricky is a ninth degree Black Belt and has 40 years of training and competitive experience behind him. Luke is his young protege who is nearly as good as his teacher. Together, with several others, they create a learning environment that is both competent and very supportive.

(And let's not forget Ricky's wife Edie, who is the backbone of keeping everything organized and fun. There is no better cheerleader to keep you encouraged, and everyone loves her.)

8 stars. For me, it is the perfect karate studio where you can get involved and participate at my level.

My grandson and granddaughter both are taking lessons at the Sidekick Dojo. I am impressed at the level of excellence displayed by all the instructors and owners. Also the interest they take in each of the children is as if they are their own. Special recognition to Sensie Ricky in how he manages to motivate each child to produce their best plus a little more. His influence on my Grandchildren has been very positive.

Absolute best after school program for kids. You cannot go wrong with this dojo. Extremely competent instructors (and don’t forget Ms. Edie who is everyone’s cheerleader). If you want your child to learn discipline, self defense and confidence, this is where it’s at. They treat all the kids like their own and have an amazing program. Can’t say enough good things about this place!
