I was told for second time, that the Child Watch area had reached its capacity and couldn’t accept any more children. I understand safety rules and staff-to-child ratios, but it was very frustrating and honestly upsetting to arrive ready to work out and be turned away with no warning.

If only one staff member is available, there should be a better system to let parents know in advance. Being able to check availability or reserve a spot would really help.

It’s very inconvenient for parents who plan around this service, and I really hope this is taken seriously and improved for future visits.

My granddaughter is taking swimming lessons here. The instructors are all amazing teachers. My granddaughter was greatly improved after her 1st lesson. Can't wait to see her growth by summers end.

This is the best Y and best gym in the Greater Charlotte area and I'm comparing to other Ys and recreation centers!! The staff, amenities and programs/events are TOP TIER!!! I drive past TWO Ys and a gym to visit this one! Definitely a GEM!!!

I’ve been to various Y locations but this is hands down my favorite branch in Charlotte. This location offers many amenities, I personally enjoy the fitness center which offer as wide range of new workout equipment including the e-gym, not to mention it’s always clean and tidy, the gym staff does a wonderful job at this. I love the overall atmosphere and vibe at Stratford and I’m so grateful they’ve extended their hours and will now be open on Sunday! Definitely helps individuals like myself who sometimes work till evening.
Shoutout to the entire staff for always going above and beyond by being friendly and welcoming always!

The staff at the front desk is great. Lifeguards are great. Weightlifting equipment is pretty lacking but you can make due. Sauna and steam room are good, locker rooms and showers are decent. They actually let you put water on the rocks as they should. Lots of good things about this Y but could be improved with a little more focus on the weights. Pool is on the smaller side, but big enough to get some laps in and I rarely see teams so availability is good.

They only have 2 adjustable benches in the weightlifting area. There could be 3 people in the gym and that leaves you waiting on a bench.

Cable attachments are also pretty lacking. There's two cable machines but less than a full set of attachments. No cable lat pulldown, no weighted crunch machine, the back extension is broken in place. With a very little informed spending this place could be an A+. I'd even donate some handles for the cable cross.

Cardio equipment they've got pretty well covered. Plenty of bikes, ellipticals, stairs, treadmills and they almost all work (one stair shuts down immediately) and not all gyms maintain this well.

Only one set of weights for deadlifts as well, whereas Lake Norman and Lowes Ys have multiples of just about everything. With as much as they spent on the computerized gimmick equipment, they could have really done some nice things with the weights area.

All in all I recommend!

This a great facility! I would not be able to go if they didn't offer FREE child care with the membership so that I can workout. The children center workers are pleasant and ensure the children and safe and enjoy their experience. This location is my favorite!

Ms Sandra was working at the desk when we arrived to check out the facility. She was so accommodating in her willingness to show us the facility even in the walking cast she had on. Immediately her pride in this YMCA was apparent to us as she greeted members and staff, introducing us to all. We felt a strong sense of community pride coming from Ms Sandra which gave us a feeling of; we belong here. So we joined and are now part of this exclusive Y community.

HORRIBLE. I paid $150 for a membership. First day here and honestly the last. I wanted to drop my 3 year old daughter to the daycare. When we walked in the caregiver didn’t even acknowledge us. No smile nothing. I changed my daughters diaper and then just when I was about to leave another girl who is in there walks up to my daughter and tells my daughter to put her shoes on. She shoved my daughters shoes in her hands and threatens her to put them on as if she was going to do something to her. My daughter starts crying. The girl proceeds to pick up toys off the ground and starts aggressively throwing them in a box. Toys are flying everywhere and could’ve hit someone in the eye. She then starts talking beneath her breath. Turns out she’s not even suppose to be in there her mom works as a life guard at this facility. Why would she be allowed to be in the daycare room around other kids who are 3xs smaller than her? And who is she to talk to my daughter like that? What makes it worse is the caregiver has a smirk on her face! And takes no action to have the teenage girl leave. I would NEVER EVER TRUST TO LEAVE MY CHILD IN THERE EVER!!! If they did that in front of me. There’s no telling what they would do if I wasn’t. Im worried for the safety of other kids as well. I didn’t even get to work out I left immediately! I pay too much to have to deal with this!! I will also be reporting this issue to corporate.

I love this YMCA. I’ve been to different YMCAs in Charlotte but none compare to this one. I will say I was skeptical because of what I heard about the area but it is truly a hidden gem. The childcare staff is AMAZING, I had issues with some of the other YMCAS and to finally find good childcare has been so relieving so I can finally work out while my child is in great hands!! The staff is really nice and welcoming. I like how the gym isn’t crowded, yes it is a smaller gym but it’s perfect if you don’t like large crowds. I’m glad to have finally found the perfect Y for my family and I!!!!

Tonight was crazy! I went to pick up my kids from what I thought was a safe place for my teens to hange out at and when I walked in it was a big fight! Children cussing and acting crazy! Adults was trying to stop the fight but there was more kids than adults!! It was a crazy seen! I will never do anything that has to do with this YMCA again. I signed my daughter up to play soccer. They are super unorganized. They lack cohesiveness when giving information. Different people are giving out different information and they are very last minute. I find it inconsiderate to not give out accurate information when parents have to make plans based on schedules. My entire experience has been horrible from the start. I would ask for a refund if it was not at the expense of my daughter.

The worst experience i brought my myself and my son here to enjoy the pool for the summer last year and should have known then that this wasn't the place for me. When i signed up i referred 6 families to this location everyone signed up and i never recieved my free months. Whenever asked i was told next month next month never happened. We began to use the pool and was totally harrassed by the pool director Mr.B on a consist basis. He was always watching my self and my son. To the point where i stopped putting on my bathing suit and getting in the water i just started sitting on the side while my son got in. He Would approach me telling me to smile or trying to make unwanted conversations with me while telling me i look like i have an attitude. To paying for swim lessons and then being told the last class that due to the weather it was canceled and could be made up the following week to being told by him that that wasnt possible telling me that the class was never canceled when my son was in the water waiting for the class to start and was told to get out due to the weather and he wasnt even present at the time. No money back or any help with this when i complained to the female director i was told it was up to him with no refund. My son was devastated So i went the Johnson location which is 25 mins from my home and they let my son do the test and get his band but never his certificate for completing the class. Now lets fast forward to this May. My son wants to go the pool but lost his band. So we go and i tell the lifeguard and he says he has to be retested so my son gets in the water the lifeguard rushes the test makes eye contact with him and then tells my son to do the backfloat my son struggled at first and he automatically failed him. So once again i left and took my son to Johnson where they were more patient and my son passed with flying colors. Now we come back to this location two weeks later my son has his band we are set hes swimming doing the back float just enjoying the pool. When im approached by Mr.B he states "That band from last year not gonna work" so i said "what " he says it again real rude so i said " its not the band from last year he was tested and earned it" Then he starts to question me "what ymca gave it to him? when did you go? all these questions. I asked why it mattered what Y i went to he has the band he is swimming whats the problem. Then he says to me "I know he failed doing the back float when i looked over at my son he was literally doing the back float as he was talking to me. I said hes doing it right now so whats the problem he looks then says "oh well i know he failed here and im just saying". So i caught an attitude and he walked away. Then he just watched me the rest if the time i was there. I went and made another complaint with the executive director this time and he told me he was gonna talk to him. At this point im fed up and now i want to cancel i go to the front desk and im asked why and i told the women what happened and she said to me "Maybe he trying to bond with you" and "if I wanted to have a sit down with him because i could be misunderstanding his approach." I said why would an employee at this YMCA that i dont personally know feel the need to bond with me and why after im telling you i feel harrassed would you suggest that i would want to have a sit down with him to discuss it after my previous experience with him. She just looked at me and said "Maybe it could help". I said no. Then she looks in my file and it was blank the proof my son competed the test that the Johnson Y did, the swimming lessons everything, all the activities that i paid for and even my previous membership it was blank as though i hadnt ever used the YMCA. When asked where the info was i was told it was strange and she didnt know why it wasnt there. Just ridiculous that moments to make memories with my son and enjoying the pool that i paid monthly for turned into this. I canceled and had all my family members cancel and we will never use this location again.

My four year old completed her swimming lessons today and it was a complete WASTE OF MY MONEY AND TIME! She learned absolutely NOTHING BECAUSE she was TAUGHT NOTHING! ( if you take your child here for swimming lessons make sure MR.B is the instructor, he’s AMAZING) unfortunately my child had a really tall woman with light brown/dark blonde dreadlocks DO NOT LET HER “TEACH” your child, it’s a ripoff! She also starts class late every time but ends class at 6p according to a wrong clock ( so my child really only gets about 20-25 mins in the water) it’s not a very long time but every minute is vital when you only have 30 minutes anyway. Worst experience ever!

This ywc a is awesome. They treat you like family. I plan my work out an I love it! It is always clean, its affordable and centrally located. Minutes from I-77 and I-85, downtown and the airport, If you are headed to catch a flight out , stop in for a quick work out and be on your plane in minutes. This YMCA facility is great! The pool only has two swimming lanes stretching only 4 feet deep. It's also a warm pool, connected to a shallow children's play area. the bathrooms are clean and the staff are nice. I came during holiday hours and barely anyone is here, but I'm guessing it will be a very crowded place especially around the new year. There's a drop off childcare center and I also passed by a very nice weightlifting room. It only the pool was bigger and a little cooler. check their website for their schedule, sometimes Google doesn't post the correct schedule around the holidays.
I'll probably be back to lift some weights.
