I recently had the privilege of learning Surya Kriya from Vidya, and it was an absolutely incredible experience. I’ve always been nervous about doing yoga in front of others, but Vidya’s calm presence made me feel completely comfortable and at ease throughout the sessions. This was by far the most informative practice I’ve attended—it was incredibly helpful to learn not just the steps but also their significance. I can already feel a difference in my overall well-being, and I’m excited to see what continuous practice brings!

Sorry for the super late review but- Vidya is an amazing teacher! She is patient and kind and wants you to be the best version of yourself. She was so understanding when I was struggling and I didn't feel judged. She even went out of her way to give me suggestions to help my sore body and tips for a healthy diet. It's an open and peaceful atmosphere. The classes were so helpful to me. I learned angamardhana, I found it really taught my body to adapt in various ways as it's being stretched to the limit while also building STRENGTH. It was a great workout that left me feeling nimble and light once I got used to it. Vidya pays attention to every detail of your postures to make sure you're getting the most out of it. She's even so kind to being open to questions over text (I had a lot of questions) once classes were over. Thank you Vidya! For listening and holding space for me ❤️ and also for passing on these ancient art forms gracefully 🤍

Taking Teacher Vidya’s class is one of the best decisions I have made in my life. I have learned so much in the past couple days. I learned my Yogasanas in Isha Yoga Center in a big group setting. After Teacher Vidya’s guidance I realized my posture is not correct in so many ways. Therefore, I will highly recommend learning yoga in a small group/ 1 to 1 settings with her. The energy in teacher Vidya’s yoga studio is also very conducive for doing Yoga. Teacher Vidya has maintained classical Hatha yoga in its purest form. She is a living proof of the transformative power of yoga. I am a very happy student ☺️🌸🌿

Surya Kriya - In sync with the body, mind and breath
There were many positive takeaways from this class.
Venue:
The studio was large, and Vidya made sure to follow Covid protocols to keep it very clean. The space was calming and serene. Vidya’s calligraphy on the black board, started the morning with positive affirmations.
Vidya - Guru
It was a true blessing to have Vidya as my Guru for this Surya Kriya session. She was articulate, calm and extremely patient. She explained the asanas and body alignment so clearly that I was able to understand my body and visualize the alignment for myself within a few days. This was absolutely amazing.
The Class:
Having attended Vidya’s class, I can confidently say that I am beginning to understand the energy within me and body / mind awareness and alignment. Sadhguru’s talk excerpts, the yoga asanas video, the explanation of mistakes and corrections was immensely valuable.
I was extremely sore on the second day of class and was a little inhibited. But walking in and being in Vidya’s presence made me completely calm and my body had forgotten the soreness completely.
Learnings
Having a guru who is dedicated, committed to the cause and teaches you with patience is especially important for a yoga student. Vidya was all this and more.
The body and mind have to be in sync to do the asanas the right way and I noticed that my body was energized after the session and not tired.
I would recommend Vidya’s class a 100%. Thank You Vidya for being a kind and giving guru.

Thank-you for walking me through the whole process of Surya Kriya, Nadi Shuddhi and Isha Kriya with a strong sense of calmness, peace and tranquility.
Thank-you for the various tips and techniques to improve flexibility, the stretches for the sore muscles and for recommending highly beneficial massage for a stiff body.
Thank-you for answering all queries any time with a lot of love and patience.
And I thank God for blessing me with such a kind and passionate yoga instructor with amazing energy.
I don't know why I waited so long to try Yoga. It is challenging but with clear instructions from my Yoga Guru, I feel stronger and deeply relaxed and can observe noticeable differences in my body and spirit.
Anyone still hesitant about starting yoga, I vouch for my Guru M/s. Vidya Shankar, she's great to start with. Her dedication and knowledge about yoga is superior, her attention to detail is impeccable, her perception to help students correct and improve is unmatched. She is both friendly and professional, precise and flexible and you are sure to feel at ease and comfort with such a gentle personality.

Discovering Vidya was a stroke of luck. I had been looking for a classically trained Hatha Yoga Teacher for a long time now. I was delighted to learn about Vidya's location on the Isha Foundation's website (Teachers in Your Area).Vidya is a wonderful, kind and intuitive teacher. My experience with her was profound. She is obviously very knowledgeable and has an intutive understanding of her student's needs. I was privileged to learn Surya Kriya and Surya Shakti from her over a period of five days.She is very attentive and encouraging through out the sessions. Her gracious and calm demeanor put me at ease instantly. The studio is immaculate and inviting. It is a 1.5 hour drive from my home to her studio, and I never regretted the time it took for my three hour daily commute. What was really touching was the little bag of healthy snacks she kept for me every single day. I plan on furthering my practice with her.

If you want to learn any yoga practices, your experience will be personified with Vidya with the deep reverence she brings with her entire beingness and what she imparts to you. She is on the Isha foundation website - she is one of the few trained teachers, so you are in luck if you are able to train with her. You will finish knowing yoga in a way you never expected to and will come to understand and appreciate the great spiritual depths and magnitude of it. She is immensely kind and dedicated. She is a pleasure to communicate from the start. Her studio is created to bring just the right kind of atmosphere for going inward and is very clean. I highly recommend her.

I came to Vidya to learn Surya Shakti and get corrections made for Surya Kriya. Vidya was very accommodating, and made my visit very comfortable. I actually needed several corrections on alignment and technique...even with the warm up asanas. She did an excellent job pointing out and explaining what changes I needed to make, and it's made quite an impact. Her delivery on instructions were precise, thorough, and easy to follow. She helped me to visualize the details. Surya Kriya is a profound practice, but I am also very pleased with Surya Shakti. I practice Surya Shakti every day, and I find it to be just what I have needed to give me more of a physical practice. I feel sharp, clear, and at ease following the practice, and it lasts throughout the day. I've practiced other forms of yoga, but Isha is by far my favorite. I am thankful to have access to Vidya as a teacher, and am looking forward to working with her in the future. Doing these Isha practices every day is really great. It burns up my past karma so that only that which is good and convenient happens to me. I'm always so happy and euphoric and full of energy. I notice that the new and full moons bring intense energy. My body is becoming strong, flexible, and healthy.
Everything in life is so easy now. I have been alone in the forest for 7 months now. Every day, usually in the morning, I do Surya Namaskar, Surya Kriya, Shambhavi Mahamudra Kriya, and Invocations. At sunset, or later if needed, I do chanting of Brahmananda Swarupa, Yoga Yoga Yogeshwaraya, and Nirvana Shatakam, and the invocations. I started doing Isha practices a little over two years ago, I noticed early on that Sadhguru and other masters that I know of are always with me trying to wake me up, and sometimes I wake up for a little bit, but then I just sleep this side. I'm trying to wake up. Yoga sure is helping. This is just creation, we are doing it because we want to, because it's brilliant. So everybody better give yoga a try, and it works better every day. Thanks to Sadhguru, Vidya Shankar, and all my teachers everywhere, especially Shiva Shambho, Bom Bholenath, we are all him.
