I'm curious if the person who designed the gym did much weight training? The facility is nice but it is an awful place to lift free weights,. Ive been lifting for going on 20 years. Its the worst ive ever used. The gym is 50/50 free weights/dumbells/smith machine...then bikes/treadmills/7 or so Nautilus machines.
All decent stuff but they have so much junk crammed into the freeweight side...its impossible to use or get dumbells without being in someones way. And the gym is never crowded (possibly for this reason) yet, its impossible not to feel cramped. Honestly if there were 0 guests you would still feel cramped and suffocated between the latter pull down and dumbell area. It's so much junk. Like a yard sale. Dump 33% of those treadmills and bikes...again, never being used...and spread out the weight equipment in the avaliable space. Until the id highly recommend weight training at any other facility in thomasville, they are all much more spread out and accommodating to people who aren't seniors....its pretty obvious that serious lifters do not use this facility...can't wait to start at the next gym.

Had the worst experience today. The lady in the gym was rushing me on a machine just to please another couple. I was being harassed by both. She came up to me after my first set and I could notice the couple looking at her and then me. After my third set, literally not even 2 sec went by when I got done, the couple asked me how many I have left and I said one. The same lady walked up again and told me how much longer I have left. I got up and left. I wasn’t on the machine for more than 10 min. I was taking my break on each set on my phone (everyone does it) I’m not gonna sit there and look at space and I’m also not gonna start my next set after a 20 second rest. Very unprofessional. It’s like she wanted to please the couple and I felt very discriminated against. I’ve heard bad stories about the facility but I always give people the benefit of the doubt. I will be canceling the family membership I have with them and will also tell people about my experience.

Have called multiple times to get a hold of youth sports director with no luck. No communication from coach either about practices or anything. Coach does not even coach the kids this is when there are trying to learn the fundamentals.Paid $110 dollars and still my child hasn’t received his hat which said league provides. Do not sign your child up waste of money.

Nobody knows, nobody cares, nobody has a desire to find out...but they deliver it with a smile. The staff is friendly when you're talking to them. However, communication is lacking and everyone says, "I don't know, someone else is in charge of that, I'll have them contact you..." Nobody returns calls or messages. It took 9 months to get information on swim lessons. After months of being told, "I'll have the person in charge reach out to you," we finally got an email. We had asked lots of questions--who to contact, how to register, the dates, how long the lessons took, how far in advance we needed to book, age limits, requirements, etc... The email we received from the "Swim manager" said, "Yes, we offer swim lessons." That's it. No answers, no desire to sell a service, just the least information available.
Within an hour, we replied asking for all the details and information. About a week or more later, we got another reply, "Yes, swim lessons are in the spring and you have to complete a registration form." Immediately, we asked to be contacted and sent the form and all the information. Again, a week or more went by before getting only one question answered. It took months of getting only one vague answer every 7-14 days before we could piece together enough information to figure out where to start. Even down to the day of the first lesson, we still couldn't get any answer about what to do with the registration form once we filled it out.
The lessons were mediocre our kids, the water was cold, even according the instructor and there was absolutely no interest in trying to make a good impression.
All the staff we saw were friendly and kind, but I'd recommend looking elsewhere for swim lessons at least. It's too much work getting any response from anyone who knows anything about them.

I really enjoy all of the staff and the amenities are outstanding. I do have a huge gripe about the overt nakedness in the changing rooms on the spa side of the men's room. Common decency should be the rule. Walking around completely naked without wrapping a towel is an unnecessary visual assault. Why is the whirlpool/hottub treated like a bathtub?!? Have these hairy dudes put a suit on. It's not a hottub it's a bowl of public hair soup. You don't allow naked people in the swimming pool! Why allow it in a sauna. It's plain unsanitary.

I am not digging this Y. I have been on them for years to keep the men's whirlpool clean. They clean it twice a year as far as I can tell. I tell them at the front desk, and they write it down, and nothing happens. it used to get checked 3 times a day. now they clean it maybe twice a year with dozens of sweaty dudes using it every day. I would like to use it, but it is not worth getting a UTI or MRSA. The sauna and steam room are just as bad. I will keep you posted on the conditions here and posting pics.

2-11-25 I went in the YMCA, I was about to walk up the stairs to see my family member play a basketball game. I didn't pay attention to her name but a Muslim lady at the front desk asked me who was I there to see. I stop walking towards the stairs and I went to the desk. I told her the child's name that I was there to see play. She opened a book and verified the name. When the game was over I was walking out of the YMCA and a white lady walked in and ask the front desk where is the basketball game. The Muslim lady told her where it was without asking the white lady to verify anything. I feel like everyone should be treated fairly. If some people are going to be asked to verify names, then everyone should be ask to verify names.

I canceled my membership back March 2024 telling one of the workers at the front desk. I had retired and was on Social Security and couldn’t afford the monthly payment. Michelle, the manager confirmed that I did not come into the gym in either March or April but they still billed me for both those months. I recently was able to get insurance that allowed for a gym membership and I paid for a membership at a cheaper cost than what the YMCA charges. I went up to the Y in Thomasville today and they refused my membership through Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina blue 365 because nobody put in a cancellation back last year. Even though I never used the gym for those two months, they were adamant that I would have to pay. Michelle didn’t accept that. I told someone that I canceled and I didn’t have any extra money to pay her after I’ve already paid through my insurance for the membership. They are listed as a participating member of Fitness your way through blue 365 yet they still turned me away and wouldn’t accept my membership. After being a member there for nearly 13 years, they treat you this way.

Horrible experience!!. I signed my son up for swim lessons and trusted them to keep him safe. He never swam before in his life and they had a teenaged coach teaching him. I found out on my son's first day his coach had him jumping in 10ft of water ! My son didnt even realize how deep the water was and it really scared him. The next jump my son had told me he freaked out and gulped alot of water. Then the next day I told the swim manager that I really didn't want my son jumping in 10ft of water starting out, and she just said she would let his coach know to not let him do anything he's not comfortable with.
Do you know how hard it is for one teen to tell another teen he's scared of the water? I was extremely upset that she just brushed me off after I told her specifically, I did not want my son to start off jumping in 10ft water.. I would not recommend trusting them with your child's life unattended!!! Some managers here have no respect!!! I also forgot to mention with every jump he did into 10 ft of water, he stayed down for several minutes way to long but the coach just discarded that. My son told me he tried with every jump to climb up on the sides of the pool. Even my boyfriend said there was several times the teenaged coach had a concerned look after each dive that my son took and didn't come back up until after several minutes under the water(I sat by holding my breath until my son came up out water). No one tried to stop it ...I had to intervene to stop the constant jumping into into 10 ft of water...He did have a tiny life belt around his waist but I dont understand because he stayed down in the water way way too long, and I thought a life belt kept you above water??..I regret every second bringing him here to learn how to swim for the very first time. The manager put in an incident report, but when I asked about the results, she said she could not tell me anything. This company were very careless with my son's life...

This was the best summer camp my child has ever attended. We have been to other YMCAs and other reputable camps, but this one offered the best instruction and the best program of the summer! Field trips every week, Swim 3x's per week, sno cones weekly, a scheduled outline of what they will be doing each day, lunch and snacks provided etc etc. They kept us informed each week on what to expect and everything ran seamlessly. We will definitely be back! Thank you for such an amazing summer!!!

Wonderful fitness center with a great sense of community! Folks at the front desk are super friendly and welcoming. Tour was great. Now a member and attending the Group Fitness classes which are a lot of fun (and sweat). This is the cleanest gym / fitness center I've been to because of the standard of care. Every time I go (3x/week), there is a janitorial staff member visibly working and cleaning. Members also grab one of the many available spray bottles and towels to clean up after themselves. The indoor pool is quite large, at a great temp, and has a lifeguard on duty. Can't recommend this place enough.

Is it possible for me to skate anywhere in this YMCA? I know it's prohibited unfortunately in most YMCA's. It's very difficult for me to find a decent smooth area to roller skate in Thomasville..

This independent YMCA is not up to par with other YMCAs. So expect the worse service and rude workers.
Former customer here, when my child was 3 she used to take swimming lessons here. I remember there was very welcoming vibe that we signed up for membership.
Today, I was invited today by my friends as guests for our kids to go swimming together. I figured it was a good opportunity to see if I should get my membership back after 3 years.
This very condescending disrespectful man that works at your front desk , his name is ANDY should not be at your front desk at all.
Andy, needs some training on how to properly talk to your possible clients. He acted like he owns the place and was doing me a favor for allowing us to be in the building.
Yes, We failed to show the paper for guest pass and I told him he’s inside with 2 kids he just can’t leave them. He insisted I needed to pay a guest fee.
Honestly, would not mind paying any fee provided it was addressed in a proper manner and not like how Andy announced.
Even after sharing how Im also interested to be a member this man made me feel like being in that building without handing him money was illegal.
Andy has zero customer service skills and have zero place being in a front desk.
PS Please review your cameras or have one and see how this man lifted his 🤚 on my face to stop me from talking. What a Horrendous experience!

Had my son’s birthday party here at the pool. Multipurpose room was NOT set up, they did not direct us to where the chairs were, we had to find them ourselves, set them up, take them down. They never told me this is how it was going to be. $200 just for a room I had to set tables and chairs up in, and an hour swimming, not worth it, and I had to do it all myself? While being 20 weeks pregnant. I could’ve had a party at my house cheaper than this and less work. Not very impressed with how management handle this. I will NOT BE BACK.

I wish we can rate the ymca by departments. I never have been a member there. Took my three kids under 6 to swim with Katie, the aquatic manager to teach them swimming lessons. She was nice nasty to my 4 yr old who is well behaved. It is almost like she has bipolar where she will be nice to him then the next moment talk to him rudely. I called her and told her that I am pulling them out of her class. Waiting for a refund bc I paid for the next season which would start in OCT. I didnt know that two of my kids will still be in her class so I cancelled those swimming lessons. The good thing about it is that the YMCA is everywhere. As a result, I will be contacting closer facilities in different cities. I forget to say that I spoke with Katie’s boss. She never said that she will talk to Katie or anything. She did say that she is sorry that I had that experience. When I spoke to Katie, she never apologized for her rude behavior. If u look at the reviews, people are writing bad reviews bc they had a bad experience with the people who work in the pool area. If u look at the reviews, would one assume that everyone is lying. Anyway, my kids still will go there for soccer. Their soccer coaches are wonderful and I have no problem with them.

Horrible communication. Needed to cancel my membership and had to go down there 3 different times just to cancel. The second time i was told after doing paperwork that it was canceled. They continued to charge me. I went back down there the third time and redid the paperwork again to cancel that I had already done. I took a picture of the paperwork this time for proof. Checked my bank account today and have been charged yet again!

YMCA promotes single mothers and children to join but the staff at this location treat them very unkindly. The first time I brushed the horrible customer service off but the second time left me feeling like I never want to return to this location again. The staff (especially the older woman) need to be trained on how to treat customers. A supposed to be convenient trip to the gym with kids was ruined today. I’m so disappointed.

All the staff here are SUPER nice except for the girl life guard in the morning. One of the rudest people! She literally stared at us the whole time we swam with the rudest look. And stayed trying to say something to us. I was telling my kid to come down off the ramp and she proceeded to fuss about it when obviously I was handling it . If your gonna swim come at night the guy lifeguard is so sweet and won’t make you feel uncomfortable.

It’s a shame . This place was honestly the best gym I don’t know what happen. I had to cancel my membership due to COVID. So as the year passed I started another membership but in Kernersville with a family plan. I work in Nordfab In Thomasville , after work I would try to go to the gym but then encountered a lot of problems in the from office. At first they told me , we don’t see you as a member. After they found me and saw that I was , they told me you can’t come in here no more you need to go to the one in Kernersville because “ we need to pay our bills too” that’s what the boss man said . Honestly it’s very sad because I know everybody, nice people , nice equipment , but when they told me I was allowed to come in no more . After paying my monthly bill and finding me as a member, and still saying I’m not allowed due too there not making any money from me put fire in my belly.
Alan is the only one saving this place…learn from him

I went to the YMCA Saturday (11-30-2019). I had to check in first before I proceeded past customer service. I didn't know that it was time for me to do my recertification. The young girl at the receptionist (she had either long brown or black hair) was questioning me on why I didn't recertify. It wasn't the fact that she was questioning me, but how she was questioning me and her demeanor behind it. She made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcomed. This is not the first time that I have checked in at the YMCA and she has made me feel unwelcoming. "She" must forgot the "old" and/or "new" saying " Treat others how you would like to be treated it." No one should ever go into a place of business and feel this away. The YMCA receptionist is supposed to greet, welcome, assist, and answer peoples questions (among other things) NOT make them feel this away. I will be calling Monday to speak to a supervisor about her.

Alright today my wife and I was tryin to go walk on the trail that’s at the YMCA, we walked all through the parking lot walked pass the kids and passed all the staff and once we got to the trail two staff decided to come and tell us that we cannot walk out there while the kids are out but this was the first time out of many times I’ve been there that I was told that I don’t know how I should feel because idk if it is a new rule or not because I don’t see why I can’t walk there if the kids weren’t on the trail and it is a community trail so I would not recommend anybody to go there the thomasville ymca should be closed down or put under new management, and the crazy thing is that I used to have a membership here and was looking to come back but after this experience I don’t feel welcomed .
