Decided to give triangle a shot on Wednesday. When I told the employee working for the front desk I was interested in becoming a member I was told to go “walk around and see what I like.” Gave me zero info about the gym and was not interested in engaging on prices or events. Mind you he was also on his phone hanging out. I walked out and drove to Morrisville to see their gym and got told the same thing. Did not feel welcomed in which is hard when you move to a new city wanting to find a community.

As a current paying member at TRC, I am disappointed with the recent change in policy of no longer providing feminine hygiene products in restrooms. Executive leadership is needlessly harming a diverse and inclusive community with performative anti-woke nonsense. I will not be visiting this location again and I look forward to a competitor in the area willing to serve the interests of the kind and inclusive climbing community in the triangle.

Great place to climb with several locations. Poor policies on "ideological values." See Redit discussion on this org. Gist: Unfortunately, their executive leadership has determined that in order to "stay out of ideological rhetoric," they provided and then removed feminine products from ALL bathrooms. As a woman, a sign on the door does not dictate where I will pee, and it shouldn't for anyone. As an adult female who can buy feminine products, I am internally grateful to orgs that understand how soul crushing it can be to need and not have access to those products. Like taking a dump and realizing there is no TP. The stool stops, the blood flow doesn't.

My wife and I went climbing here for our time ever. We had a good time, and they were perfect happy showing us what we needed to know to get started as beginners. The gym and shower facilities were also very nice. We look forward to coming back again soon for a class or just with a day pass.

Really high quality climbing gym and fitness facilities.
My only gripe is recently the route setting has been a little on the unkind side. V0s should be as easy as climbing a latter in my opinion, but some feel as hard as V2s.

I used to love this place, I came for track out camps for years and had a great time. The last time I came I was 12, and now I come back (I'm 17) and want to climb by myself for the first time. The prices are sort of crazy for a day pass, they tell me I need to pay full adult prices (25 dollars for a day, not a lot but pretty pricey for my skill level) even though I have my own gear already, and they say I don't get any kind of discount for first time visit even though it's been YEARS since I last came.
Its cool for adults I guess, but as a teenager that barely has enough money from working to eat out, I cannot afford this. I have health problems too and would only be able to climb a few walls max, plus it's my first time coming back so idk how they expect any moderately athletic newbie to spend a full day there.
I would love if they offered an actual youth pass somehow, or at least a half day pass to try things out. (They offered college discount on website but I'm 17.... 🙃)
Plus the dude at the front desk had no intentions of helping me out, just stared at me like I was asking crazy requests of him and left. I came on a weekday it was slow, I asked him for advice moving forward and he brushed me off and sped walked away 😭
Honestly I remember this place wanting to cultivate joy of climbing.. guess it's more of a novelty thing for adults now 😓😓

As a climber for over 50 years, I have been a member of TRC since it opened. I have always enjoyed the excellent quality and variety of routes available and the general friendliness of staff and other climbers. Over the last 5 years I have benefited enormously from personal fitness instruction with Bryan H-B. His professionalism, knowledge and ability to work with people of all ages and abilities is outstanding and has kept me enable to keep climbing capably into my 70s.

I've got to drop my rating to a 4 due to the absurd amount of holds that have spun on me here lately. It seems almost every visit now at least one rotate on me and then I have to run up to the front desk to get them to (or the tool so I can) reorient and tighten the hold.
Most recently (around 8pm on 12/11 on an orange 5.10) I was mock leading and clipping the top hold when the hold under my foot suddenly spun free. The resulting fall tweaked something in my arm and now I'll have to wait for that to heal before I can get back to climbing. It's one thing to get hurt making a mistake climbing, but it's way more annoying when it happens because the holds weren't appropriately tightened when the route was set.
I'll bump this back up to a 5 when I can go 5 days in a row without a hold spinning on me. I don't think I've even hit 2 in a row lately without encountering at least one spinner.

My husband and I purchased a punch card here on Friday in anticipation of using it when we regularly visit his mother throughout the year. We have both been climbing on and off for the past 8 years with our most recent year after returning from parenting and a hectic lifestyle, at Inner Peaks in Charlotte and are at levels between V4 and V6 (I am a 4, he is a 5-6). We have been climbing throughout the country at different climbing gyms the past season for travels and discussed our findings at Triangle Rock club with other visiting Climbers on Friday. The unfortunate conclusion was that this gym does not have national standards for their climbing sets. It was frustrating and discouraging to find that though we do climb at intermediate levels throughout the country, their levels here in Raleigh at this gym are their own language and standard. The V2 or V3 sets are the equivalent of a V5 or higher. They all lack in sufficient footholds as well, even the basic and "easy" levels where you would hope to not discourage someone entirely new to climbing.
We spoke to a regular climbing who is buddy with the setter crew and he told us that the setters all do advanced climbing; evidently past remembrance of how a beginner climbs and the requirements needed for those who are unfamiliar with how to begin either bouldering or rope climbing. Inner Peaks regularly has the owner visiting and checking up to ensure there is consistency of route levels to appropriately reflect the level nationally. I would truly hope TRC would have the same.
It is extremely discouraging to see that there are setters who don't take into consideration the various levels of climbers and do not set the routes to national standards. Unless you are a part of their pack, your understanding and ability to work with their routes is botched from the start.
Super disappointing.
We still intend to come back and use the punch card, but depending on how things are when we visit, we may not make too much use of the rocks and will focus on their extremely impressive and well-stocked fitness gym instead. It's a bummer, because when we visit family and go on vacation we try to maintain our climbing status and not being able to do much at a gym makes it rather pointless in trying.
Looking forward to seeing your routes better reflect national standards. According to previews reviews over at least the past six months, they will
read the reviews of the same concern I'm expressing and little to nothing has done. Perhaps this time something will be done? I don't need a response telling me my opinion is valuable. I need to see change.

Trash route setting in the bouldering area. For the lower rated routes (V0-V2), they are apparently set by a tall route setter, usually end up with a reachy move/crux at the top of the route. I mean I understand that they shouldn’t be ladders but it’s generally a bad idea to set crux at the top for easier problems, combined with the beat-up cushions. Warmed up for 20-30 minutes and decided to leave because of the settings. Front desk refused to give a refund for the day pass because I’ve climbed. How do I know I don’t like it before I try it? It’s like in the restaurant you can send back a dish because it tastes off. Ridiculous policy. I’ll never be back. Hope there would be more competitions of rock climbing gyms in the area.

I went to this place for half a year or so, and it's a fantastic climbing gym. I'm still very much a beginner at climbing, and it can get busy but there's a large variety of routes and walls, and the intro rope class was great. I ended up using the gym a lot too to lift and it's big and nice, lots of barbells and rack spots which is exactly what I wanted. Only reason I'm not going anymore is because I'm moving out of state, this place is awesome!

Was visiting from out of town and went here for a couple of hours. TRC Raleigh is a solid climbing gym that offers both bouldering and top roping.
This location’s grading system feels pretty difficult (usually climbing ~V4-5). Lower-grade warmups are quite challenging so if you’re coming for the first time, I’d bring a more experienced friend for guidance and motivation. Otherwise, not sure how beginner friendly this spot is.
Heads up: They don’t offer chalk so you have to bring your own or buy it.

great facility. run by lawyers. tried to take my five year old here for some bouldering. after 20 min of paperwork we discovered she needed a harness to go above 3.5 feet. we left for the playground where children can climb higher without a 15 min orientation video. way overboard vs our home gym in Seattle. don't bother bringing kids.

They asked to skip the rest of the camps and just to rock climbing all track out. It is a really well priced camp as well.

We love TRC! Our 6 year old son has had a great time at the drop-in sessions on weekend mornings and has gained so much confidence. He loved it so much that he ended up having his birthday party there a few weeks ago - what a blast! The party was SO well run. We had 12 boys and the folks at TRC had everything handled from start to finish. We had a great party room (brought in our own food/cupcakes), an orientation for the kids, free climbing, and then climbing games. Ashton and the rest of the party leads were awesome with the kids and Ashton even sent our son a birthday card after the event. Highly recommend for free climbing and parties!

I’m willing to point it out. The bouldering climbs were rated way too difficultly the day I went. To put in perspective I climb v5- v6 have completed v7 in the past. But I wasn’t even able to start a few v3 climbs in this gym and the walls were pretty slick. The place and people were nice. A bit dissatisfied after spending 40$ for 2 people (would’ve been 50 if we didn’t have our own shoes). If a setter reads this please don’t pretend I’m wrong. Place is cool tho

The best climbing in the area, now with a decent gym. The bouldering is superior to their Morrisville location. The top roping is maybe not as good as Morrisville (no 55', fewer routes). Overall it probably comes down to preference.
It can get very busy after work hours on the week days, but it is manageable. I would love to see them expand the climbing space but it doesn't look likely.
Its competitively price, especially for families as the price for additional people in a household drops off quickly.

We absolutely love this climbing gym. The staff is always friendly, helpful and willing to answer questions. They take safety very seriously and don’t tolerate stupidity in the gym.
They do an awesome job with kids birthday celebrations and provide space for the kids when they are done climbing.
For the adult climbers, they keep the routes new and challenging and provide an engaging experience for new and veteran climbers alike.
They also stock a decent amount of climbing gear including shoes, ropes, chalk and the like. The staff will make sure you get the gear that meets your needs and fits your budget.
Don’t wait any longer - plan a visit as soon as you can!

So having been in the area for about 9 months now and im going to dive into the route setting in this gym specificallythe bouldering: they desperately need a setter of novice level testing their climbs. They are sandbagged in the sense that flagstaff in colorado is sandbagged. If you know anything about the place most of the climbs were set way back when a v3 was actually quite hard relative to outdoor v3 grades in modern grading so it is notorious for that but i digress. Grade is typically relative to both the technical needs of positioning for the climb and the size/difficultyof the holds. V3 will demand an extensive amount of both in here. Vb-V2 all climb the same. V3-V6 is basically the same. V7 and above are the only things ive found where difficulty seems to have variation. If you are a novice to boulder expect that you will be able to climb very few routes. As a hardcore climber you will very likely enjoy this place tremendously. The photos are various holds from current v3 climbs. With the last being a v2 for comparison of the drastic jump in difficulty.

Blown away by some of the poor reviews. I'm a climber of 10 odd years and no one was anything but nice. I sat with the route setters at one point when I first started and they chatted with me about routes and asked my feedback as well. That said I do think the climbing grades are fairly sand bagged. I'm an outdoor V8 climber and I struggle on a lot of the V6 climbs in here. My advice is take these reviews with a grain of salt. I came out of Colorado where you could spit and hit a climbing gym in almost any direction. I've also been to gyms when I travel so I've seen a lot of them. Seems folks really have no idea what to expect from a climbing gym at all. $80 for a gym that has 3 facilities is normal. The only thing I balked at was the initiation price which I felt was pretty high hence 4 stars instead of 5. $20 for a day? Again normal. Every gym in LA is like that. You can not expect the desk personnel to teach you how to climb, it's not their job. That's what classes are for and some are likely not climbers themselves. I see a lot of people with families complaining. In my experience it's because they let their kids run all over especially under folks climbing which is dangerous for everyone. In closing I suggest folks do a bit of research before they show up, not have crazy expectation and make sure your kids are respectful. Happy climbing.

Things can get crazy here, but the fitness instructors are respectful of club members even when they aren't taking a class with them. While I was doing a solo workout, Aimee F. was setting up for a class that required a large portion of the fitness area. Her approach to getting me to move so she should have the space she needed was respectful and helpful. She allowed me to come to a convenient break point and then helped me move my equipment so I could finish my workout and she was still able to start her class. She didn't make me feel like her class was more important than my workout which would've been very easy to accidentally or purposely do. I've watched her lead several classes and she is also super sweet and energetic even when having a self proclaimed "rough week".

very nice gym great staff FULL of kids for a summer camp but they're under control. The hours of operation make a member ship almost not worth it if you like to go at night you never know if they'll be open. There's only a few autobelays so if top roping alone is your thing you'll only be here for 20 minutes. The routesetting on the boulders is great every problem had interesting moves easy or hard. nice workout facility too.

A little surprised at the service we received after reading all of the positive reviews. We took our kids on a Sunday to go rock climbing. Check in was a struggle, there were several people behind the counter but no one seemed to know what was going on. After check in we watched a short video and they turned us loose.
As others have stated there are only a few auto belayed devices. My kids found themselves waiting, so I went and inquired about belaying them. “David” behind the counter was pretty rude in general. I was eventually able to pry out of him that it could be done on the spot. I paid and a nice you g lady came over and gave me instructions.
Now I’m going to preface this next part, I have a basic knowledge of rock climbing and rappelling/belaying.The young lady showed me the basic principals, how to attach the belay line to the harness and so forth, she then had me attach it and perform a few belays. She asked if I had any questions, I said no and she said “she would let me belay her, your ready for the test.”
I was then sent back to the counter and a different girls began administering a verbal test and had me perform some belaying. She then told me my hand placement had been wrong and that she couldn’t pass me, even though every time she pulled the rope to simulate an unexpected fall I stopped it. She also said I couldn’t retest the same day. Now I understand that belay is very important and that done improperly someone could be hurt or killed. The problem I had was one, if you require it to be done a certain way, teach that way and stress it must be done that way and two had I known I only had one shot at this I would have probably spent a tad bit more time practicing, the girl teaching me made it seem like the test was no biggie and I was ready .
On the plus side the rock climbing itself was fun and my kids had fun.

Still fairly new here, but I had a rope climbing lesson with Ryan, and he was very patient and helpful. Desk staff is generally attentive as well, and the facility is fun.

I was a loyal TRC member before the pandemic, and visited again yesterday. This location is horrible to climb at. The front desk staff is standoffish, I went to check in and they barely acknowledged us. Also bought a T-shirt and with about 6 people behind the desk nobody even looked at me. Easy to get past that because I came here to climb, right? The place was a zoo. Don't get me wrong I love that kids are climbing and getting into the sport. But I was barely able to get on the wall there were kids running around screaming every square inch of the facility. The workout room is amazing and I don't have anything bad to say about it. I wasn't too salty about the high day pass rate but after I got checked in I was extremely disappointed to the point I wanted a refund.

TRC is the best place to climb in NC. They have facilities all over the triangle in Raleigh, Morrisville and Durham. They offer free events and classes to members. Membership is around $90 per month, slight discount if you get the couple’s membership. There are promotions a few times a year to waive the sign up fee. The drawbacks are: it’s very hard to find parking if you come here after work, hopefully more parking can be added. Also, the climbing routines don’t get changed frequently enough if you come here regularly

Great place to climb; friendly staff, good routes, and plenty of classes/events. I live just down the road, and use climbing as my main source of exercise.

Spent the entire time bouldering. Problems had cool directional changes, but most of the problems we tried felt more on the reach-y / dynamic side (maybe the route setters here prefer more dynamic movement on the whole). I had to try to dyno often than not.
Wish there was more slab style problems that encouraged delicate technique and footwork.
Overall, good experience for bouldering. Day passes are affordable too for visitors.
The top rope / lead walls didn’t look that much taller than the bouldering walls.

I mostly just boulder and the bouldering routes are pretty well done, tough for the grades but it’s just closer to outside grading I think. The one thing that is crazy though is the sheer amount of chaos and children. It is kind of baffling some days, it’s turned into a legitimate daycare with children running around you and screaming with the staff just barely watching them or yelling don’t run every once in a while. One time I was climbing and was about to jump down and looked down to see a kid literally underneath of me playing on the holds, I had to wait till finally a staff member saw and came over to grab him out of the way. I’m new in town and thought maybe this is just a summer camp thing, and I asked and nope this is year round. I’m sure the gym is making a ton of money but wow it’s annoying. I now drive 25 extra minutes to go to another gym so I don’t have to go here.
