About the Club

WKS is a high-intensity interval-based workout that fuses together different workout focuses into one dynamic format; cardio, strength training, and Pilates. Each individual focus area provides support for an all-around healthy lifestyle but cannot deliver results on its own / as a standalone offering or class type. Fusing cardio and strength training together sheds fat and replaces it with lean muscle, while Pilates serves as the main component of core work and stability. Fusing these together in one hour saves clients time and money from having to be a member at multiple studios. They are able to experience everything they could want or need in one results-driven workout!

Five stars is not enough for WKS. I started in late March five months before my wedding and while on weight loss meds. I was losing muscle and wanted to look and feel my best on my big day. I needed something I could stick with and had been following them on instagram and thought it could be for me - I was right. Seven months in and this is the most I’ve stuck with a gym routine going mostly four days a week. The trainers are fantastic, I feel better, have toned up and love the community they have created.

I booked a private workout class for my best friend’s bachelorette party and it was the highlight of our weekend! The WKS team was so helpful on the phone/via email and they made the process so simple. When we arrived for the class, the upstairs private studio was decorated with special bridal goodies for us! Personal Training with Marissa is truly the end all, be all - especially for postpartum mamas - it’s the WKS method AMPLIFIED. I recently completed 20 sessions of postpartum PT with Marissa. She created a highly customized workout based on my postpartum needs and weight goals. We met twice a week to do the work. Don’t let her tiny size fool you - she’s a beast in the best way. I’ll say this until the day I die, Marissa is a wizard and true expert. Her method is a one stop shop for a workout. It packs all you need in one session - cardio, strength, pilates. Her strong work ethic and passion for her craft is poured into her clients - you truly feel she’s along the journey with you. The personal attention and care she had for my postpartum needs is unmatched. We surpassed my goals in those 20 sessions. I’ve also never felt stronger or more confident. With so many exceptional things to say about WKS and the WKS community after two years, it is most important to note that this studio is for everyone, wherever you may be in your fitness journey or life stage.

Of course the trainers are certified and highly knowledgeable, but they also gracefully meet you where you are with the utmost care and professionalism. The customer service is top notch—They will remember your injuries if you share them, and will offer mods accordingly. (I encourage anyone to attend a class and stay afterwards to ask questions— trainers are approachable and happy to help—never rushed.)

The Personal Training program is unparalleled, and is absolutely worth the investment if you are gently rebuilding strength and function after an injury or are postpartum, or if you need support in finding consistency/accountability. Sessions are so much fun and something I look forward to every week.

Never in my life did I think that I'd feel better about myself after having a baby, than I did before - working out LESS! West Kept Secret kept me motivated and moving safely + efficiently during pregnancy and postpartum. The workout is challenging, but always doable (no matter what your fitness level is). The trainers are kind, authentic, attentive, and encouraging. I love the energy and being surrounded by women of all ages, shapes, sizes, and colors. I recently took my first class at West Kept Secret with Caroline. My daughter has been going to WKS regularly for the past year and convinced me to try it since I was in Charlotte for Thanksgiving. Believe me when I say it did not disappoint! The friendliness of the staff, the hands-on adjustments from the trainer, and the full body workout were all 10/10 (or I guess in Google’s case 5/5).

I’ve been to lots of workout classes in my lifetime - I’ll leave it there and spare myself the age announcement haha. But never done anything quite like this and I’m now a fan for life! Unfortunately, I don’t live in Charlotte but you better bet I’ll be back for a class next time I’m in town.

I want to start by saying I think the instructors are lovely and the classes are great if you are looking for low impact cardio/pilates.

That being said I am honestly really disappointed in the business from a contract perspective. Halfway through a committed contract they have changed policy fees for late classes/no shows. I definitely understand the principle of why you would charge for that but I think it’s unfair to change the fees in a signed binding contract , especially for $260 a month. After all, the client follows a strict auto renewal policy unless you email them 35 days in advance of the renewal date. Personally, I think contracts should be binding for both the client and the business, but that’s more of a personal ethical standard.

All this to say be very careful when signing up for a membership and make sure to review everything. Beware that prices are subject to change throughout your contract.

Again, I actually like the classes, but I think there’s definitely room for improvement.

WKS changed my life for the better. I started my fitness journey here from scratch, I couldn’t do a single push up, I didn’t know how to properly lift weights and I had no idea what core strength was. Once I joined to get in shape for my wedding, I watched myself become a stronger, more confident and consistent person. Those qualities trickled into my personal and professional life, helping me to have more energy to accomplish my goals and show up for myself.

By incorporating the workouts 3x per week, I was able to drop 7% body fat and 10lbs in just 10 months. I truly felt my best on my wedding day and honeymoon.

I have met some of the most amazing women here (including the incredible instructors) and made friends along the way. I’ve loved all the classes but always enjoy taking classes with Patience, Daphne, and Ahna! Can’t say enough good things about WKS. Found them while navigating an injury/diagnosis that changed the way I could workout and from day one felt so welcomed and cared for. The workouts are challenging but accessible. I love that the format is consistent but feel like the workout is always different which keeps me engaged and excited each time. I especially love the instructors - not only are they all high energy and welcoming, they are extremely educated and well trained. WKS is arguably the best workout in the Charlotte area. I’ve been taking group classes consistently for 6 months 5 days a week. I’ve seen amazing results. All the trainers are absolutely AMAZING! The trainer Mason has the best playlist and always keeps the energy up! Emily up front is awesome too!

The trainers have such an attention to detail making sure people do the moves correctly all while making the class environment fun through their coaching and playlists. Obsessed. I loved every minute of it. Daphne was absolutely incredible! She was so encouraging but also made sure to touch base with everyone in the full class to make sure they had the correct form and were doing the correct movements. This is the best work out in the city, HANDS DOWN. I cannot rave about this place, the workouts, or the staff/instructors enough. Before coming here, I had been struggling to find motivation in the gym and felt stagnant with my results/progress. I have been going to WKS for 5 months- the signature classes, events, restore classes and personal training. In May, everyone who worked there was a stranger. I love this studio. I will say I was intimidated to take a class at first. I have nothing but great things to say about every instructor I have taken a class with. Every single one has made me feel comfortable, and has given me modifications for any move that could be too challenging for me. Recently took a class with a Madison and she was really encouraging and helped assist me throughout class. Laken and Stafford were also amazing trainers, and loved taking their class. Would recommend anyone looking to get out of their comfort zone to take a class.

I was visiting from out of town and decided to pop in for a class. I have never sweated so much and felt so good after a workout. I went to Marissa’s class and it was worth every penny! I recently booked a private workout class at West Kept Secret to celebrate my birthday. My friends and I had an AMAZING time working out. The new personal training room is perfection!! Ariel, our trainer, did a phenomenal job giving us a great balance between pushing us and motivating us. She is highly skilled as a trainer and knew exactly how to challenge and modify the workout as needed to cater to each person. The workout was challenging but we all felt so accomplished at the end. I went to my first class here on Monday morning led by Marissa West and it was amazing! I hadn’t done much cardio or working out over the past several months so I was definitely nervous (thought I might die) but this class challenged me in the best ways! Everyone was so welcoming from the woman at the front desk, to the instructor, to another WKS trainer who was also taking the class. They all really made me feel welcomed and comfortable. The class was HARD, but the instructor made sure to help with my form and offer modifications when I needed them while still pushing/encouraging me. They are also doing a great job of maintaining COVID safety precautions. Overall the vibe of this place is just 10/10 - great music, great culture, great workout. I will definitely be a regular!

This is the only workout I will wake up at midnight to ensure I sign up for the class times I want for the entire month. I am obsessed with this workout. How much stamina, endurance, strength training all in 50 minutes. Every workout is different and I love how hands on the instructors are with each student. Every instructor is personable & encouraging, they truly want everyone to have the best workout.

Best workout in Charlotte. Best workout in North Carolina. Best workout I've ever experienced in my lifetime - period. As a former competitive dancer and someone who has exercised regularly for more than twenty years, I am so happy to have finally found something I am absolutely IN LOVE with.

I attended some West Kept Secret classes in late 2019 and early 2020, prior to Covid-19, when they were being held at another location. Once the pandemic hit, I did a few of their Zoom classes and also subscribed to the on-demand streaming for a few months - both of which were awesome.

As soon as the actual West Kept Secret opened in Dilworth this October, I knew I had to sign up and get in on a regular membership. Let me just say - I am beyond happy I did. It was exactly what I needed and was missing in my life. WKS provides multiple class times, multiple instructors (all amazing, by the way), and every workout is different - which I love. I get bored with things very quickly, and know that I will never get sick of these workouts because they are always challenging, different each day, and not only different workouts and instructors and music, but also different interval timings (so you never know what you're going to get)!

I also need to mention that WKS takes Covid-19 very seriously. As soon as you arrive at the door, your temperature is taken. Masks are required. The class size is currently under the required capacity. The workout is done with more than 6-feet apart from other class-takers (an empty machine/station is kept between you and the next person, if that is needed - depending on the class size that day and time, you might have even more spacing than that). Machines/stations are cleaned very thoroughly in between classes by WKS staff - and - if you would like to clean in between each round during your workout, before you hop on a machine/station, you may do so if you wish.

Anyways, if you cannot already tell by this review...WKS is the best.

PS - the music is the best, hands down. Especially if Marissa, Heidi, or Arthur are teaching.

Tried my first WKS class with Marissa this morning and absolutely loved it! I felt very safe with the COVID precautions the studio is taking as well. From the moment I walked in the door, I felt very welcomed, especially with it being my first time. I shared that group fitness can be overwhelming to me and never felt singled out because I was a “newbie.” You can tell the trainers truly care about providing a 10/10 experience for EVERYONE who walks in the doors. This place is the real deal. Do yourself a favor and check then out! I have avoided HIIT style workouts for years due to a bad knee, but Marissa, Heidi and all the trainers have been amazing. They show you modifications but still make sure it is a great workout. I love that they incorporate Pilates and Barre into their routine. I am challenged each visit. Definitely worth every penny!

HOLY WORKOUT BATMAN!!! This class was strategic, well thought out and overall amazing!!! I felt so safe with the COVID-19 precautions the trainer and staff took! They have decided on their own to have 1/3 LESS people taking classes than they are allowed to in order to further their safety efforts and careful consideration of others. Great environment! I loved the energy that Laken brought out in the class and in myself as an individual. Marissa (one of the founders) was right there to help assist as needed and provided me with modifications since I have some spine issues.
I will definitely be back and cannot suggest this novel methodology enough!! WKS killed it!!! Great job ladies!!

West Kept Secret offers one of the most fun, challenging workouts I’ve ever tried! I love that their combination of machines and workouts is always changing to keep me on my toes and keep my fitness level at its peak. The trainers are right there with you during class to ensure your safety, offer modifications if you need them, and offer challenges that take your workout to the next level. It truly is a class like no other.

COVID Note - The studio is doing a great job at mitigating risk by having clients and staff wear masks in the lobby, restricting unnecessary access to the studio, and practicing social distancing during the class itself. They’re also completely accepting of clients and staff wearing masks during classes - I’ve taken my classes with my mask on and have even been accommodated with extra space (well over 6 feet) while at my machine.

I have taken 6 classes since the grand opening of the studio! I am absolutely obsessed. The trainers are knowledgeable, motivate you, provide modifications if you need more or less of a challenge or have an injury, and they are leaving the middle machine open in each class to maintain social distancing!

The music is loud and the playlists are dope! The equipment is all super high quality with elements like a Pilates reformer, boxing bag, springboard and self-powered treadmills you don’t see anywhere else!

They are running lots of different class packs and specials with discounts for teachers and healthcare workers! And there are 14 reserved parking spots just for West Kept Secret clients which is so convenient.

I want to give an update on the review I wrote previously for Marissa West and West Kept Secret Fitness. I’ve been working with Marissa now every week for 16 months. Marissa has changed my life in so many ways. Not only is she just a fabulous trainer, She motivates me in ways that no one else ever has. I have never been a natural exerciser, however Marissa has encouraged me and challenged me to explore the world of fitness. Since working with her I have lost 28 pounds. Honestly the most important part is feeling good in my skin and feeling healthy. I can’t recommend Marissa And her team more highly.
