We particularly like the Egym system at Woodfin. Instead of fussing with machine settings, the Egym machines are set to each individual, so when you log into the equipment you get a tailored program for 11 muscle groups that takes about 45 minutes for 2 circuits. The results are tracked in the App so you can monitor your progress.

Apart from the equipment/facilities, I like the variety of programs (group classes) offered, and the fact that some can be done before the regular business day (9-5). The instructors have been amazing. They are compassionate, caring, knowledgeable and they their efforts are appreciated. I like that I can visit different locations and that each location has a different schedule to offer, as well as amenities. Hopefully our journey with YMCA is just getting started, but we have loved every aspect of it. Thank you!

Beautiful facility and really friendly people! I love the Jumpstart personal training package and the eGym! I'm still relatively new and haven't tried any of the classes yet, but with so many options I definitely plan to check them out soon!
I was matched with a fantastic personal trainer, Sandi, who is a perfect fit for my individual needs and goals. This place is great! Also, the price is very affordable and there's plenty of free parking.

Oh Woodfin YMCA! How do I love these? Let me count the ways. (Iβm actually not going to write this in sonnet form, although that would be rather fun).
1. The woodfin Y is actually set in my navigation system as βworkβ because I go there every morning (provided I am in town). I am a group exercise kind of gal. A true extrovert who recharges her battery by being around people, being on stage, teaching in a classroom. Etc. So I need a fitness facility that offers a wide range of group exercises, and Woodfin certainly has that variety. Do I want more dance classes? Absolutely. A few more yoga classes? Sure. But overall, thereβs always something here that I can pick daily.
2. The folks at the front desk. Every single person is, without exception, delightful. They greet me every day. They know my name. I feel so welcome walking through that door.
3. The instructors. For fear of leaving anyone out, Iβm still going to list some of my favorite instructors. Ricoβs Zumba Class, Pilates with Vinita, Deborah in Zumba, Nancy in Zumba, Eugenia in Zumba, Shonnaβs Pilates/yoga, Karen in hip-hop, Zumba with Lena, yoga with Gillian (We literally have a family pass because my husband attends one class a week, and itβs Gillianβs class). Even the subs, shout out to Kate, are amazing.
4. Other community members: the administrators and the other folks who run the Y. I know their names as well, such as Jessica. Plus a lot of the regulars, such as James, who taught my children in kindergarten (they are now in their 20s). So many friendly faces make it easy to work out.
5. The yoga studio and dance studio. They are clean. They are well lit. The hardwood floors are fabulous. I love the new cloth images of trees and sky that are blocking the fluorescent lights in the yoga studio, so when you look up in yoga class you feel soothed.
6. The fun fitness challenges where we receive a T-shirt at the end. I always tell them I donβt need a T-shirt, but I love doing the challenges. I love the stickers. I love watching my progress. One of the photos shows that I bring in my own stickers, such as Star Wars stickers, because Iβm a nerd like that.
7. Community give back. I probably shouldβve put this one at the top. All through Covid, even though I wasnβt attending classes, I did not cancel my membership. the Y really gives back to the community; there are a couple of pictures of stacks of bottles of water and other things that the Y was giving out to its members post-Helene. The Y does so much behind the scenes, from early childhood education to wellness and nutrition for the community.
Love you all!
Love everything you do.
I remember watching when you were constructed and being excited that I had a Y this close, and I have been going here since day one. This is my community.

The Woodfin YMCA is my favorite. Yoga is my main focus and they have frequent Gentle Yoga classes in the AM with a variety of instructors promoting a balanced overall experience. Also, super clean with lots of natural light. Thoughtful location of the popular child care space on the first floor, gym and classes upstairs.

This Y is okay. Staff is excellent and itβs never too crowded. But there are zero amenities like at the other locations around Asheville. No pool, hot tub, steam room, rock climbing wall, basketball court, walking track, not even a sauna. Kind of a bummer after being to the other sites around town, but itβs the one that is closest to our house. Maybe they could spend a little money and do some upgrades for everyone in the Woodfin area?

Love the staff and class instructors and enjoy the sense of community with others in my classes! There are several outstanding instructors who work to make it fun, educational, and safe (to avoid injuries). I am a regular 5 times a week. Majority of my classes are M-F in the mornings and I wish I could take every class of interest - not enough time or there are schedule conflicts. Recently traveled to Phoenix and looked at 2 YMCAs for classes. Woodfin EXCELS in programming and state of the art equipment such as with eGym. These other Ys did not have TRX, Les Mills Body Pump, and more. I appreciate the investment Woodfin has made and enjoy the benefits of it. Thank you!

After a year of belonging to the YMCA, I thought I would take advantage of the fact I had an appt in the building.
I chose to explore working out at the Woodfin Y for convenience on this day. For years, I've seen signs the gym was on 2nd floor. Why not check it out!
I found the check-in process unclear. I used the elevator and it opened up into the gym. No signs to say the check-in desk was on the first floor, so at first I waited at the desk that was present on the 2nd floor gym. Nobody was there for about 3 min. Decided to use the bathroom and then walked up tothe desk again. A worker directed me downstairs.
Two desks and the workers were hardly the cheery dispositions of those at the downtown Y. I barely got a "hello, how can I help you?"
According to signs, I had to "sign in. For some reason, I thought literally bc I didn't see the ID reader on the desk.
Other than the odd, unclear, and in my opinion not good Feng Shui check-in, the gym itself looked clean and felt comfortable. I liked that they had two classrooms and two smaller semi private workout areas.
Not sure I'll ever come to this gym again as it's not the closest to work and home. I still enjoy the Y.

This YMCA is not diverse staff is condescending and ignorant. Classes are horrible and the instructors donβt acknowledge no comers to group and help them learn the correct form for the exercises so that they donβt hurt themselves. This YMCA doesnβt not know anything about diversity and inclusion and is not friendly to people of color at ALL. Speaking to management was pointless. I love the Woodfin YMCA, but can I tell you about my trainer? I've had the privilege of working with Natalie L. for over a year. Her positive and motivating attitude has been instrumental in helping me achieve my fitness goals. She possesses impressive knowledge of her clients' strengths and weaknesses, customizing workouts to improve both. She also maintains open communication demonstrating her commitment.
Natalie is not just a trainer but an accredited expert who fosters a trustworthy and professional atmosphere. Working with her has been both productive and enjoyable, making workouts fun and engaging.
In my experience, Natalie is undeniably one of the best in the industry. Her commitment to helping clients get fit, regardless of challenges or issues, sets her apart. Her training sessions are worth every penny, and I am thrilled with the progress I've achieved under her guidance. If you seek a knowledgeable, adaptable, compassionate, and dedicated fitness professional for your journey, this trainer is the ideal choice.

Super friendly express style (satellite) YMCA. Staff seemed flawless overall. All the necessary equipment available with locker room shower facilities. No sauna steamer whirlpool etc at this location, that is not what this building is designed for. All the necessary machines, cables and free weights for full body training. Largest dumbbell was 110 pounds for whoever wants to shrug it. I was able to goblet squat the 110 pounder on todays leg day. No hack squat machine or calve machines for leg training. Multiple fitness and stretching rooms, many classes to sign up for and a personal training desk. The front desk had lock rentals available which was convenient. Mostly older crowd present at the time and a beautiful facility with a pleasant view. Everything I was looking for in a smaller YMCA.

I've been going to the Woodfin YMCA for 8 years and enjoy everything about it except when they cover the mirrors in front of the cable-cross machine with posters. The mirrors are for checking one's form when exercising. They should not be used as a bulletin board. As a shoulder replacement person, important to check balance and form when doing rehab exercises.

I hate going to the downtown Asheville location. The smell of chlorine and the mugginess is truly not for me. And it's just crazy packed. Always.
I was pleased as punch to find the Woodfin location. I spent my first two months trying out most every class before finally settling on the early morning yoga with Hilary. She's WONDERFUL.
The ladies at the front greet me warmly, the machines are never fully booked when I'm there, the ample parking is helpful, and they're actively making improvements to the facilities.
I also like that you register for classes 24 hours before class starts. It prevents folks from booking far out and no-showing.
With my monthly membership, I'm spending something like $7 a class. That's just silly what a great deal that is.

Even with a few sections being roped off for private lessons and lap swim, and then another small section having to be blocked off for the water slide, there was still plenty of room to swim around freely, although there was quite a lot of other members enjoying the pool that day.
Will most definitely be going back to this one, before choosing the others we usually regular, due to distance. Plus, itβs in a beautiful part of town, and is very clean! π€©

This is a great little gym with friendly staff and a good mis of equipment. They have group classes and a few different rooms where you can do a workout on your own. The free weight area is inclusive, not overrun by gym bros, and well equipped for all exercises, though the space is limited.
