Workout Anytime on Lake Wheeler Rd is awesome for me. The manager Randy is friendly and super helpful. It is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so I can go whenever I want. The staff are always quick to answer any questions.
I started at one of the mega gyms in Cary paying a fortune to have access to stuff that I was never going to use and just felt like I was a number helping them keep the lights on. Workout Anytime is the right size for me and feels like home.

When I first signed up for the service, I have contacted with the staff regarding my gym membership issues that I was signed up twice on 2 accounts for a year. I was dismissed from the team stating that it is correct, the service was supposed to be charged $40 per bi-weekly and I did explain that how am I supposed to use 2 accounts if I am the only person who is going to the gym but it was not resolved. I did email the managers to help me cancel my membership as well but was told it has not been a whole year yet and I must fulfill and honor the yearly membership then cancel. I gave up and waited for a whole year from that point with no available resolutions during that time but to wait. A whole year has passed and I called the gym again they managed to cancel the membership for me; however after another 2 weeks it shows that I was charged $20 to find out they have only cancelled only ONE of the TWO accounts . I’ve called once more to this gym and was talking to the manager who is working from another location to find out that they have made the mistake and wants to remedy the situation. Till today, I am waiting for the resolution but I will not be going to this gym ever again.

I still go there unfortunately. The staff is extremely weird. They act like they don’t like you or they act like they like you too much. They’re very sketchy with their contracts, they don’t like cancelling. They’re very pushy with staying with their gym. Some sort of equipment is broke, whether it be the sauna or the hip thrust machine. The worst gym by far in the entirety of raleigh. I’d rather go to planet fitness. With how hard it is to cancel contracts, i can’t switch. Definitely don’t recommend.

Get a gym membership here if you like being scammed. I went to get a membership for 4 months, the employees acted all nice, we agreed to a monthly plan and it went well. After the 4 months I went and told them that I want to cancel, they told me that I actually wasn't signed up for a monthly plan, but instead a yearly one. After a back and forth they did me a *favor* and told me they would allow me to cancel as a courtesy, but they had a scummy policy where I had to pay for the next 30 days after giving them a notice of cancellation, whatever. I blocked payments from them and let the last $30 go to collections. Now, 6 months later, I just got charged another $320 for a new year worth of membership. I called the gym and they told me that both the employee who signed me up and the employee who’s did me a favor and let me canceled lied to me. The former employee, subscribed me for a year to get more commission out of me, the latter told me that they would cancel my membership to get me out of the door.

But they did me a favor and will let me get out of my debt $360 debt for $140… this place is full of dishonest people who will lie to your face for extra commission.

However, since then, the manager responsible — Noah Terry — has been replaced, and the new management Angle has been much more responsive and professional. This is an update to my revew.

It has a good vibe and is a welcoming diverse place to workout. The staff, especially Margery and Allison, are very friendly and helpful they are there to give advice and help you accomplish your fitness goals. Those are qualities of the staff I highly value when looking for a business, especially a gym I would like patronize.

The gym itself is clean and the equipment is in good working order. Over all I highly recommend Workout Anytime. I give the staff 5 Stars and would give the gym itself 5 stars but they are missing an ez- curl bar for machine triceps pushdowns and machine bicep curls which limits the exercises which I can do as I prefer machines over free weights due to an injury. Because of the missing ez- curl bar I have to give the gym 4.

The gym has all the basics you would need to work out and the price is reasonable. There aren't any classes, just equipment. The gym smells clean but I have observed people not wiping down the machines after use . I also haven't seen staff wipe down equipment either. The Tvs that are there don't really have anything interesting to watch . There is a sauna which i havent used , and a hydromassager. I always wipe things down before and after I use equipment. But this behavior doesn't seem to be encouraged . There aren't any signs up to remind users to wipe off the equipment.

Terrible experience — STAY FAR AWAY!
I wish I could give 0 stars honestly!
Workout Anytime is the worst gym I’ve ever dealt with. The equipment is outdated and constantly broken, the facility is dirty (especially the bathrooms) they claim it's" cleaned multiple times a day "but it's not, and staff are rarely around or helpful.
Homeless people get into the gym constantly.
But the absolute worst part? They kept charging me for months after I canceled my membership — even though I canceled it six months prior. I called / emailed and text multiple times, I was ignored they never answered! I had to contact my bank to get my money back! Total scam. This place has absolutely terrible management I mean they can't even keep track of who comes in and out of the gym or who they charge or who has a membership! Save yourself the frustration and go somewhere that actually respects its members and their money!

RESPONSE TO OWNER :

Your response is completely false and honestly disappointing.

Let me be very clear: I canceled my membership in January and then all the sudden you all started charging my account again in April! I followed every step exactly as instructed, which by the way is crazy all the things you have to do to cancel. I have proof of that cancellation. NOAH TERRY never responded to a single one of my emails or texts — not from me, and not from my husband I wrote to him multiple times about the multiple charges to my bank account starting in April. So please stop lying and saying you “never received anything.” I know what I sent, and I have the records.

You can’t claim to be professional while ignoring multiple messages from paying members, continuing to charge them, and then gaslighting them with blanket statements like “we have no record.” If your system is broken, that’s on your end — not mine.

And while we’re at it, don’t try to deflect by bragging about your “state-of-the-art equipment” when several machines were always broken FOR MONTHS AT A TIME, the bathrooms were dirty, and no staff weren't around to help.

If you really want to “make things right,” start by taking accountability, stop lying in your public replies, I contacted my bank they even tried to contact you. Would you like proof of that as well ?
I received my money back thanks to my bank.

If I could give this zero stars, I would. This place will steal your money. I left my information online to inquire about joining the gym. They called me and told me I can pay a dollar. They have a special membership and they wanted me to pay the dollar and then a fee for becoming a member I told them no just take the dollar and when I go in and I see if I like the gym then I’ll let them know if I wanna join. I never ended up going to the gym. I have never in my life, stepped foot in that gym ever. I actually moved out of the city and I’m being charged $600. When all I was told was that they would give me a hold for a dollar and I would have to go see the gym I was never told anything beyond that so that is a criminal and that is a crime and it’s stealing money. Literally have Credit collection agency calling me for $600 and I never stepped foot in this gym is insane to me that this is damaging my credit when I’ve never stepped foot in the gym. I never even had a bill come in the mail like this is insane to me, and this is illegal.

Checked out Workout Anytime – Lake Wheeler and here’s the honest take:

Equipment-wise, it’s solid. They’ve got pretty much everything you’d want for a full workout—strength, cardio, cables, you name it. Haven’t had time to test it all, but from a face-value perspective, it’s well-stocked.

The space itself felt surprisingly small and pretty crowded, even during non-peak hours. Definitely not as spacious as I expected, and the gym was hot. Not sure if that’s intentional or just a thermostat issue, but worth noting.

Sales process was… interesting. As someone in sales, I can appreciate the hustle, but there’s definitely some pricing gatekeeping going on. No pricing listed online and they don’t give it up unless you’re fully ready to sign up. I was quoted around $19.98 biweekly with $75 and $59.99 in sign-up fees, but nothing was written down, so take that with a grain of salt. There’s also a paid-in-full option for $540, plus setup fees. For what it is, I’d say it’s on the expensive side, especially considering the space and experience.

Overall: Staff are motivated and the equipment checks the boxes—but the size, heat, and sales vibe threw me off. I’ve trained all over North America, and this one lands at a C+ for me. I won’t be back, but it’s a gym where you can get the job done if you decide to join.

That is quite clear by the echoes of frustrations on here. There is no communication with your billing company ABC either and the response is to wipe clean of all wrong doings with your repetitive responses to each of these reviews with low stars. It’s quite sad but as we all know businesses like this operate like this for only so long before they have to answer for their actions of wrong doing to others…. My community gym was under renovation, so this location at Lake Wheeler was offering my neighborhood 2 weeks trial access for the price of the HID key.
It's a decent gym with all the equipment you're used to seeing. The sterilizing spray bottles were empty when I first visited, but that was a Friday so maybe they just get refilled once a week.
I'm pretty impressed with their app, and I'll definitely be using it while I'm on vacation in Mexico.

It’s a fantastic gym. There is a great staff that works hard to make sure the gym is in good order, the personal training is awesome, and they’re really good about keeping the equipment in good condition. For the price this has to be one of the better gyms in the area

Edit: Over the past year most of these things are no longer true. There is still a lot of equipment, but it is falling apart. Once a machine breaks to the point of not being usable it can take over a month to get fit (assisted pullups machine is an example).

The staff/management also does not seem to care about keeping it clean either. For several weeks the same splashes/smears have been on mirrors, pre workout streaking the wall over the water fountains, and if you walk into the bathroom on any given morning (at least the men's) you are guaranteed to find either urine or feces on the floor/walls.

Overall this is not a $20 biweekly quality gym it claims to be. It's an under cleaned $10 a month gym at best

Place is a scam. Got a membership here cause it was super close to my place, but started noticing some weird activity on my bank account. This gym had made 2 accounts under my name and was charging me for 2 memberships for months. Confirmed it with the front desk the next day, and they gave me the email for the manager, Devan. Its been over 2 months and no response, despite me sending my literal bank statements with proof of the two accounts. Another employee gave me some other manager's contact info (a guy named Noah) and he hasn't emailed me back either. Mens showers across from bathroom entrance and no second curtain, be prepared to flash unassuming teens trying to go to the bathroom. Low staffing, high member count, and small space = terrible gym environment. Not a big deal for me, but TV's always damaged/non working. Moved away and will change my rating to a 2 if I can get out of the contract, but thats not likely to happen. Another company that doesn't care about their patrons, only wants to scratch and scrape every dime they can pull out of you.

Do not get a membership here. It's overly crowded with low amounts of staff and lacking a cleaning crew. The mens showers have a direct sight-line to the entrance of the bathroom. When signing up, if you say you plan on attending for any amount of time, they will use that as the length of your contract without telling you. Then they'll hand you a small device to go over multiple pages of small print terms and conditions while you're pressured by the staff and being asked other questions. Getting out of the membership is 10X harder than any other gym with them requiring you to speak with the general manager to cancel. You'll be offered a lower rate, discounts on products, free this and that all to try and deter you from leaving for a couple more billing cycles.
My story: i moved away multiple years ago. when I tried to cancel, they had me sign the cancel paperwork, but wouldn't honor it unless the manager approved of letting me cancel. They determined I was required to pay out the entirety of my contract before canceling. I live 500 miles away but made multiple trips back to cancel, each time being told I couldn't cancel without the manager...and the manager was never there, didn't return phone calls, messages, or email. If you want to get tangled up with a small gym, with too many members, depreciating equipment, poor gym culture, and a mens bathroom that displays the showers to anyone that pokes their heads in, this is the gym for you. But if you ever want to leave, make sure you have an attorney family member and are comfortable dealing with the attorney general and bbb. Clearly I'm not the only one with these complaints. If they ever let me out of the contract, I'll change my rating to 2 stars....

Update: the manager I emailed was "Noah Terry". I anticipate not getting a response until the next billing cycle has started, bc that's how these guys do business.

**Deceptive Practices – Read Everything Carefully!**

I feel completely deceived by this company. When I signed up for a membership, I was led to believe there were two options: monthly and yearly. However, without realizing it, I ended up locked into a yearly contract. The same thing happened with their personal training program—I was given the impression I could cancel at any time, but that too turned out to be a yearly commitment. The lesson? Read everything carefully and don’t make any assumptions. They seem more interested in squeezing as much money out of you as possible than being upfront about their terms.

I get a call from ABC workout saying I have a negative balance because guess what… my cancellation form STILL has not been turned in and they’re trying to send me to collections. I call the gym again there is no manager and they don’t call back…. DO NOT GO HERE

The customer service is awful here. I went to cancel my membership at the beginning of 2024 and it was a whole run around to do it. I had to wait until there was a manager present for me to fill out a form in person. Once I canceled it I didn’t think twice until I saw a charge of $41 on my account 7 months later then looked back and noticed they never actually canceled my membership. So I called and was told the manager wasn’t there and I had to leave a message. I did this three times and NEVER heard from anyone. Luckily I finally spoke with a lady who told me when the manager will be there. Spoke with Devin who claimed he was the Regional manager. He was great at first, gave me his email and said he put the report in with the ABC company. A week goes by I follow up with him via email and I heard nothing, another week I followed up again and still I heard nothing back… look at my account today and I was CHARGED FOR ANOTHER MONTH! I called and got the whole run around again about leaving a message…. Eventually I called my bank and just had to block the company from future payments. This is very disappointing and just an awful way to treat their customers

STAY AWAY RIPOFF REPORT
Starting at May 6th I have made 4 in person attempts to cancel my membership with this this shady business that has ripped off countless others simply look at any reviews for them and their other location in Wake Forest. In person I sat down with the General Manager May 6th at 12:45pm to cancel the membership since it was in good standing and had been fulfilled and was now a month to month plan. I was told it was taken care of and I would receive email confirmation in a a few business days. Three weeks later I still have received no notification and returned in person to speak to the GM or Owner and was told they were the only ones who could help me. After being billed again I delivered in person a notice of cancelation signed, dated and clear of my desire to cancel my membership effective immediately. On June 26th I was billed again and spent nearly a hour on the phone with corporate offices and the billing company ABC which informed me that there was no note on the account it had been canceled and billing would continue. I forwarded a scanned copy of the formal cancelation i had delivered in person and they told me they would escalate it to the local club for cancelation. I was charged again for July and again contacted corporate and the billing company ABC both which told me it had to be handled by the local club that they could not cancel it. I have spent 4 months, countless hours of my time, multiple in person visits to cancel the membership and they continue to bill me. I have already contacted my bank and had to pay to put ACH block for this ongoing fraudulent activity on my account. Then today they some how charged my credit card which I never provided to them and I would like to know exactly how they have access to that. I seek a resolution in the form of 4 months billing, my banking ACH block fee and restitution for loss wages in handling this matter.

4/1/2024: They will never let you cancel. You can submit a cancellation, the payment company will never receive it and blame it on the gym while the gym blames it on the payment company. If you join DO NOT give them your bank account info. Use a throw away credit card that you can cancel and keep documentation of your attempts to cancel as they will threaten your credit history.

Update 8/27/2024: After eventually receiving a call from management apologizing for their mistake and promising to make it right, I am now receiving emails threatening to send me to collections. The issue still has not been corrected on their end. The management is a joke and this company should not be allowed to be in business.

Signed me up for a year long contract after I specifically asked for a month-to-month. Didn’t think I had to read the contract because they seemed like nice people (they didn't present the contract to me either). Grateful for the current and previous staff that helped with the strength and fitness goals I was able to obtain. (completely tore tricep off bone 2 years ago, bought 20+ training sessions and got program for solo workouts made by a trainer. I got arm strength to pre-injry in 1.5 yrs, which is around 400lb bench press)

I moved out of the neighborhood that was close to the gym, but currently still commute to gym, approx 20 min drive. 24 hour aspect is good for people who workout at unconventional hours like myself because of work.

Athletic trainers I have interacted with are nice and knowledgeable. I would recommend gym to people that already have fitness program/routine on their own, people that live in area, and/or people that would work out at unconventional hours. If very new to fitness or need assistance with certain goals, training/success sessions can help.

Don't know if prices have changed, but I was locked in to good deal that is still being honored almost 3 yrs later.

Update: So after reaching out to the BBB they agreed to mail me a check for my $300 and after 8 weeks I have never received it. When I reached out to Kori about it she had the audacity to throw my recovery in alcohol in my face. I am very proud of being 90 days sober. My journey in alcohol does not make me a dishonest or misleading person. Also, the sad part is that when I confided that I was in recovery she shared she too had been to recovery. So, she now makes fun of people in recovery, I guess. Just disgusting. I’m proud of my journey and would never stoop so low.

At first I really liked this gym, but then I noticed there was a lot of turnover including my personal trainer. I ended up training with the owner Kori Chriscoe after my first trainer left. She was good, but often cancelled last minute and was always late . I finished my contract and decided to cancel the personal training and was told it had been canceled, but was charged 4 more times a total of $300 each time. I have text messages with Kori that prove that she always stated it was cancelled, and yet I’d get charged again and again. finally had to cancel my card to make sure it stopped. Still have not gotten the last $300 back and refuse give them anymore bank info because I don’t trust them. My bank says the refund should go through anyway, but she claims it won’t . I have contacted the BBB, WRAL 5 on your Side, and posted to stay away from this gym all over Next door for Raleigh and I also mentioned they own the Wake Forest location as well. Sad thing is a former employee informed me I’m not the only member they are doing this to. Just stay away!

Since January 2024 I've been calling Workout Anytime to CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP and they HAVE NOT canceled. I went to the gym 4 times, I signed a paper for the cancellation and they are charging me still to this day(August). Every time I go to or call the gym to cancel its always the conversation. they ask for my name and number and say that the manager will call me but they have NEVER called, it’s been 8 MONTHS. When I ask to talk to THE MANAGER THERE IS NEVER ONE AVAILABLE . 8 months charging my credit card and the attendants never solve anything and I have to pay $38 per month. BE CAREFUL IF YOU ARE A MEMBER AND WANT TO CANCEL, THIS COMPANY WILL ROB YOU.

I tried to cancel my membership because I left the country and couldn’t because your team members never called me back (although I stopped by the gym multiple times before leaving the country). Chris the owner signed me up into a 1 year contract without telling me what I was signing. I signed up because he sold me on the punching bags they have. The main bag broke a few weeks into my membership. It's been 4 months and they haven't replaced it, and even their backup punching bag broke!

Every time I visit or call they say Chris "will be in within an hour and they'll give me a call". 8 attempts later I'm yet to receive that call. Devon the "Regional manager" can't "do anything" with my account, and neither can anyone but Chris. Magically, I haven't been able to see Chris' face once since he predatorally signed me into a 1yr contract.

Gyms are like the 1966 movie "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly"; this gyms one of the good ones. Cleanliness is paramount for me in a gym. The staff and the patrons work to keep this place clean. Nice selection of weights, treadmills, machines, and amenities. Something for everyone. The only slight complaint I have is the music tracks are not my style, they could switch it up once in a while.
