At Y2 Yoga, you might find our approach to yoga a bit out of the ordinary, but we like it that way. In our signature Y2 Yoga power classes, you will get a dynamic flow that focuses on cardio, strength and flexibility all to the soundtrack of beats that help to motivate and inspire. We believe that your practice should be fun, but challenging. Our methodology teaches you how to show up on your mat and, as a result, you will start showing up in your own life.

I really enjoy the classes here. The space is calming, instructors are kind, and there’s a nice mix of class levels. Only reason I gave 4 stars is I wish they had more early morning sessions.

Y2 isn’t just another yoga class—it’s a full-on experience. The instructor brought this perfect mix of grit and good vibes that pushed me harder than I thought I could go, but somehow made it fun. The music, the heat, the energy—everything hits different here. Left the studio drenched, smiling, and already planning my next one.

I’ve been thinking about trying a class here for years and I finally decided to give it a go. To put it simply, if you are into yoga for the workout aspect alone this might be a great fit, but if you are seeking a deeper practice with specific instruction and yoga philosophy something tells me you won’t get it here.
The weirdest thing to me was walking in having never been here before, not realizing at first the iPads are for signing in and kind of just standing there ignored until I figured it out on my own? I wasn’t even sure if I was walking into the right class as there are multiple studios, I had to ask another student.
I took the Single Shot, which was really challenging for me even as someone with an every day practice. I could barely hear the instructor over the loud hip-hop (which continued even during savasana?) so I was often lost and missing queues, relying on the students next to me to try to catch up at times. It’s was a very large class, so the instructor needed to wear a headset and (felt a bit like a spin class) but I still couldn’t always hear him.
All in all, it’s not probably the best fit for my practice which is heavy on mediation and breath to movement. I don’t mind heat or a quicker pace but it was just missing the zen for me. I’m sure it is a great fit for others, just not sure it’s for me! All the classes look similar too in terms of heat level and warmup.

Y2Yoga again has saved me in so many ways. I’ve been gone from the yoga community since 2018 and as of Monday December 2, 2024 was welcomed back in open and loving arms. I practice upstairs in the Ashtanga room at 6am but was greeted by friendly faces and energy as soon as I walked in the front door. Nothing has changed. It’s a flow of friendly and supportive energy and positive atmosphere.
This yoga community is for everyone regardless of fitness level, size, shape, or body condition. It’s a safe place. You will be accepted and loved no matter your part or background.
I’m practicing with Johnna Smith one of the only 160 Ashtanga certified teachers in the USA who is right here in Charlotte at Y2. If Ashtanga isn’t your thing the downstairs classes are a great vibe and the people are all smiling and having a good time while getting fit.
I was greeted by Tanner with a huge hug and smile this morning and it felt so good to be back at a place that feels at home.
I definitely recommend coming and joining the Y2Yoga family. If you have kids they have childcare. They have truly thought of everything. People who are injured can go for a cold plunge and heal inflammation. It’s truly a gem in Charlotte. I’m so grateful.

I tried my best to have little expectations and go with the flow of the class but as soon as they started playing music, the F word was one of the first words I heard. During our sun salutations, Lil Durk and Drake was playing which was bizarre. I’m a bartender and have to listen to trash music all day long so I don’t come to yoga practice for rap music. There is a sentence in the description of their website that says “We play music, so you can ignore your thoughts,” or something along those lines. Which is scary and seems like the total opposite of what yoga is? I guess if you have zero interest in the spirituality side of yoga, and enjoy classes like “Twerk Yoga” which are rapidly becoming available within our culture, you’ll love this place.
The lockers and showers were nice. The flow was challenging and I would consider myself and intermediate yogi.
I told the staff this was my first time and they instructed me to check in on their I-Pad and sent me on my way with no tour or welcome. The place looks cluttered and overwhelming at first entrance.
The instructor didn’t actually seem engaged rather like he was just speaking over a muffled microphone like I was in an Orange Theory or Elevation Church and like he was just reading a script. Couldn’t really understand what he was saying over the music. Took me a long time to understand the flow. Seems like the owners don’t care and sold out to make a “yoga studio” for the masses and cash in .
Im just not sure why this place is designed to be a “Yoga Studio” rather than described as a more accurate “Upbeat Music Yoga Based Workout Studio?” Maybe? The whole experience was one of the strangest of the Yoga studios I’ve been to.

I've been to this studio multiple times now. At first, I was taken aback by the quick flow and upbeat music as I'm used to slow movements and a quiet environment. I quickly adapted to the class and fell in love with the challenge. The instructors I've met are friendly and encouraging. There's a great mixture of beginners and advanced which just makes me want to be even better. I love this studio and will keep coming back! Update: I've been going consistently for 3 months now. I still enjoy the challenge but find myself getting bored with the same class over and over. While each teacher has slightly different flows, they're basically all the same. I wish they offered a variety.

I fell back in love with this studio recently as I stopped going with Covid in early 2020. This class is addicting with the heat, the music, the energy of the room, and the structured yet very authentic teaching from the instructors. I feel that I grow in my flexibility, my strength, my endurance, and most importantly, in my confidence and mental health every practice! I’m very thankful for this studio!

The general manager was quite rude when I entered the studio with a class pass and I asked to borrow a towel not knowing there was a fee. She commented you can rent a towel with a passive aggressive voice and asked if I had a card on file.
The studio was over 120 degrees and it stunk!!
It was too many people to breathe properly.
I saw the response to the last post about the smell and I’m sorry I’ve worked in hot yoga studios with 50 students and if it is cleaned properly it will not smell for the next class. Also my $5 mat and towel had an odor.
The music was extremely loud so don’t go trying to focus too much cause you will have to get through the looseness first.
Customer service is key If you want repeat customers and being kind.
To offer a towel as a courtesy would have been the right thing to do without the smart comment.

Went here for hot yoga. The studio had the worst smell of odor, I considered leaving because it was so pungent. I've never even smelled a locker room that bad.
It was also probably the hottest studio I've ever been in. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I swear the floors were heated or something because I was slipping on my mat which never happens (and I've attended hot yoga all over).
As for the flow, it definitely seemed to be more about strength than about restoring your body through poses. It was incredibly fast and made me think that it could make someone prone to injury if they didn't know what they were doing. There were minimal cues and poor transitions - like going from a mat pose to a standing pose within seconds. There were many times I felt blood rushing through my head.
The instructor herself seemed very nice. There were a lot of "new age" commentary embedded into the flow which felt a little too hippie for my taste.
When entering the building, it was very congested with people and gave off clique vibe. It did not seem welcoming to newbies. I had to ask someone to help me - where do I check in, where do I go etc. Most places staff are very enthusiastic to show newbies around but this place they were uninterested. As a POC I felt very out of place here too, like the vibe just wasn't for me.

Nice studio. Unfortunately far from being a body positive or POC friendly yoga experience. I’ve been here a few times I’ve gotten a lot of strange looks, as if I didn’t belong. The front desk never greet me, I remember my first time walking into the studio I said “hi it’s my first time.” The person at the front pointed to an iPad and said “you check in here, towels are there,” and then proceeded with whatever they were doing. I gave a few instructors a chance, mixed bag here. Some are better than the others. I noticed that some assist everyone that walks in the room others only assist those whom they know, all instructors I have taken have never asked permission to touch me. I’m okay with assists, but I think it should be standard to make sure the student is okay with the teacher touching them. I gave up last week when the teacher just “called poses.” No cueing, no alignment cues, no breath cues. At that point it’s just a workout class, and not worth 29 dollar drop in fee. I pay for the experience not the yoga I can get for free on YouTube. They definitely market to a certain kind of person, and unfortunately I am not that yogi.

This studio has great staff and great instructors. I love the massage & chiropractic amenities. I didn’t commit to Y2 though because ALL their classes are heated, plus they only have 1-2 standard flow classes a week, often during 9-5 business hours. Unlike other yoga studios, they don’t prompt yogis to clean borrowed blocks. Hopefully the staff cleans them after each class.

I thoroughly enjoyed coming here until today. My wife and I came together for her first time and had an absolutely awful experience once we got into the yoga class with Dana. My wife has a medical condition and singled out by the instructor three times for not wearing her mask correctly. My wife was in the very back of the class, far away from anyone else. The instructor never welcomed her to the class, tried to accommodate her and then singled her out in front of the entire class. It was an extremely unprofessional and classless experience - and is borderline discrimination. We left the class after only being there for 10 minutes and could hear the instructor talking about us after we left. We understand that safety protocols are necessary and that Y2 doesn’t want to get in trouble for not following protocol - but the way this was handled was rude, hurtful and unprofessional. If you have a medical condition that requires special accommodation - we would advise you to stay far away from Y2.

It's Heaven & hell all in one place. For an adult just getting back to exercising I just hope to survive each session. Past the hard work, which is the point, it's a very accepting environment, instructors and students alike. I feel mentally relaxed during the session and physical relaxed after the session. It's not the typical YMCA routine but I personally am enjoying this much more. Give it a shot...

Absolutely love Y2. I struggled for a long time finding a “workout” I enjoyed. You name it I’ve probably tried it and lasted maybe 6 months. I’d tried hot yoga in another city and enjoyed it but never made it routine, a friend brought me here 4 years ago and I’ve been hooked ever sense. It’s fast paced, challenging, and motivating and I leave refreshed and calmer than when I started. I’ve learned so much not just with yoga but about myself. I’ve tried a couple different classes other places (one highly talked about chain that was nothing but disappointing) and always leave thinking that was it? Nothing compares to the the instructors, the facilities, the assists, complimentary hand towels, and the details at y2. You don’t get that other places!

Y2 has been my absolute favorite home away from home for self care, movement, challenging “workouts”, inspiration and learning. The instructors are fantastic, highly experienced and the atmosphere with music and challenging flow is an awesome fit for me. The fellow students are also what inspired me from the very class. Chris and Joy are so encouraging. Dorie is my absolute favorite instructor at Y2. Since joining a couple of years ago, she has been the primary “force” that inspires me, and supports me. All the instructors are wonderful. I particularly like Dorie’s flows and sequences because while they are definitely challenging, I never feel rushed. Dorie is also down to earth and open, shares about her yoga practice in life experiences, and reminds us all to meet ourselves where we’re at, while also being willing to change it up and take healthy risks into something new. Ooh! Also I love the music she chooses for classes! Rian is also amazing, along with Kari, Jennifer H, Buffy, and of course Tanner! Rodney also gives the best assists! Every single time I walk out of Y2, I’m stronger, more centered, more light and joyful. Thank you, Y2 family.

I love the flow, intensity, and challenge at Y2. I can't find those same qualities at other local yoga studios. While some might say it doesn't offer your traditional slow yoga, this is what I like and works for me. I've been a member for over 2 years and it has helped me lose weight and maintain my core strength for my physically-demanding job. I appreciate the package deals (buy 10, get 5 free) because it keeps the classes affordable and comparable to other studios. I also appreciate instructors emailing me after class!

I had a massage at Y2 and the therapist seemed to be falling asleep during the session. Well at least the massage would get slower, and slower, and then stop; and this kept occurring while the therapist was sitting down. When the woman at the front desk asked me how the massage went, I told her my concern - about the massage therapist falling asleep on me... no one followed up with me. Oh well. I was honestly a little concerned about the therapist if she was literally falling asleep on the job - maybe she needs an EAP referral... not my business I guess... Well that is not my only reason for the 1 star... the entire time the massage was going (I assume it was Tanner's class) hip hop music was blaring, so it was impossible to relax -- even with the rather sad and obnoxious attempt they had made at white noise / music in the therapy room. Overall the massage wasn't relaxing, it was stressful. Y2 has come a long way, I guess, from serving Monster drinks to bottled water and smoothies. And recruiting Johnna. But for me it continues to have an insincere, fake, non-yoga vibe that makes me feel uncomfortable every damn time I walk through the door. Once I finish out my last class pass I won't be back... there are plenty of other options in Charlotte.

I like the vibe of the studio and the ‘fun’ environment. Each teacher brings such a different energy to the class, but there is a common thread that is woven into the community at Y2. There are so many classes that I can usually find one that works with my schedule if my ‘regular’ class won’t work. I like how there is always something new going on whether it be a challenge, a new class (Strength!) or workshop to help people at all levels deepen their practice.

I wanted to give this place a fair chance, so I bought a 10-class pass and took a variety of classes that Y2 Yoga had to offer. After some reflection, I've come to the conclusion that this yoga studio is not for me. I've been doing yoga for many years, both in Austin and Houston, and found this place didn't really vibe with the goals I had for my practice. See below:
The Good:
1. The studio offers a lot of classes throughout the day, which is great for people like me who cannot come until later in the evening due to my work schedule.
2. The studio is fairly large, with two stories, and three yoga rooms plus a massage
The Bad:
1. While the studio is large, the yoga rooms are a bit small. This normally wouldn't be a problem, but Y2 Yoga likes to cram people into these rooms like little sardines. This is an issue for me. It's very hard to do poses without brushing up against someone and after 30 minutes the smell in the room gets a bit much to handle. I also find the amount of people they have in the room is a little dangerous, especially with the heated yoga classes. The room is already hot, but when you cram it so full of people, the temperature skyrockets. It becomes hard to breathe and I've gotten quite dizzy due to the amount of heat that accumulates in the class. Yoga should be relaxing, not a burning torture session. I recommend the yoga studio re-think the number of people they allow to register for a class, because as of this moment, it looks like they are worried about squeezing as much money out of a class as possible instead of their customers comfort level.
2. The music. Alright guys, we need to talk about the music at this studio because it's a little ridiculous. When I come to yoga, I want to listen to relaxing music that helps me relieve stress and tension, not cause me anxiety. The music they play in class is usually a mix of some weird electro-dance music and crappy pop songs, all of which is really fast paced and played at an ear-splitting volume. Most of the time, I can barely hear the instructor because their silly dance music is eating through my eardrums. Turn it down. I didn't come to cycling class, I came to yoga. I shouldn't be getting hyped up in yoga class.
3. The pace. The pace is extremely fast, to the point that I can hardly ever keep up. By the time I've settled into one pose, I'm suddenly finding myself scrambling to get into the next pose. I find it extremely difficult to understand how these poses can be beneficial if you're not given time to ease into them. I even tried the LDS class, and still found that class to be faster than I would like. I've never been to a yoga studio that had me falling all over myself trying to get into the poses. I get to the point where I just start doing my own thing because I get so stressed out and anxious. Again, I want my yoga practice to relax me and help me focus, not cause me anxiety. Y2 Yoga seems to focus more on cardio/fitness yoga than it does traditional yoga.
4. The poses. The poses are the same in almost every single class. It's repetitive. Extremely. I've done more poses in one class back in Austin than I have done an entire month at Y2 Yoga. I don't understand this at all. There are so many poses out there. Why don't you ever change your classes up? I'm tired of doing the same thing over and over. And yes, they use the same poses in all their classes, regardless of what they title the class.
5. The instructors. I really dislike a lot of the instructors at this studio. Literally, all they do is walk around with a mic on and bark out yoga poses at lightening speed. They hardly ever demonstrate or do the yoga with you. Again, weird. I've been to many other studios where the instructor practices with the class, not walk around yelling out poses for an hour. I've also never had anyone correct my poses or help me out.
Update: Owner attacked my review and made fun of me in the middle of his yoga class. Deleted my FB post about it. Refused to personally apologize. Made his employee do it instead. Still waiting. Sad.

I’m coming to the end of the new student $39 special at Y2 next week. It has been absolutely amazing. I LOVE IT. Y2 has introduced a new and different yoga experience to me than what I was used to. It is more athletic, a faster flow, more heat and more humidity than I’m used to and all of those create an incredibly satisfying experience. For someone who has asked a lot of her body over the years (dancing, rowing, running, cycling, swimming, boxing, cross fit, marathons, triathlon distances up to/including half ironmans) this is my new favorite endeavor. It pushes me to my limits and helps me grow while it nourishes and strengthens my body, mind, and soul. Rian and Tanner are both very inspiring. Their unique styles, personalities and authenticity are magnetic. I’ve practiced once with Dorie and with her guidance found my first mountain climbers! I’m humbled, challenged and have an enormous amount of gratitude to what they bring to Y2, my practice and my life. The facility is very clean, fantastic amenities, and while I haven’t experienced the massage there, I love that it’s offered. If you are up for a challenge and up for exploring another way to become a better version of you, get yourself to Y2!

If you enjoy hearing profanity, making fun of overweight people, and Yoga being a "workout" then this is the place for you. I went to a workshop and it was horrible. When I asked for my money back they said no problem (still no refund ). I did receive an essay type (10 paragraphs long) email from the teacher feeling like she needed to explain herself and everything else about the studio, her teaching, etc in a condescending way. I have never complained or spoken negatively about an establishment, person, etc. Being a Yoga teacher myself I couldn't hold it in. Everything about this place has nothing to do with Yoga and it gives the Yoga community in North Carolina a bad name.

Come to Y2 Yoga prepared to grow physically and spiritually on your yoga mat. The community - teachers and students alike - is vibrant, welcoming, compassionate and courageous. The asanas are challenging, but the experienced teachers offer alternatives for all levels. The often intense heat and upbeat music are distinctively Y2 - not to be missed. Plan to stay a while in the beautiful Y2 facility - the massage services, retail boutique, and Namastay Cafe and Hangout also are amazing!

Y2 offers something for all different yogis. Ashtanga, hot vinyasa flow, non heated flow, twilight flow , long slow deep.
The Namastay Cafe is delicious. There is always a friend face to greet you at the front desk. The facilities are superior to all other studios I have ever been in.
Come try it, you'll like it!

Y2 Yoga is a studio where you can be your FULLEST SELF. All the crazy, loud, sweet, delicate, parts of you are honored and challenged in class. I love practicing there! I've practiced at other studios and always leave feeling like something is missing, physically. Y2's sequencing is intelligently composed to open all areas of the body. They have THE BEST teachers too! The energy is vibrant and awakening. I always leave having had a blast, and having learned something about myself. Love it!
Oh- and the food in the cafe is AMAZING too. They have lots of vegan options!
Massages! AND CHILD CARE!!
What's not to love??

If you are looking for a yoga studio for the sole sake of a good workout, then by all means, this is probably a good place to start. However, I'm bummed out that it is not what I'm looking for, as the location is close to my house. To start, the last thing I want in a 6 am yoga session is for obnoxious loud hip hop/party music blasted in my face. Secondly, the instructor/owner, Tanner, although probably a pretty cool guy, did not seem to really respect the art of yoga and ran the class in a personal trainer/gym buff sort of way. He didn't practice the poses with the class, and instead just walked around shouting what to do all the while playing on his phone 3-4 times. And last, about 5 or so people left early at different times, creating a distraction. Most studios I've been to have a policy of waiting until the end, but I guess not here. Like I said, if yoga to you is just a way to sweat, then none of what I said would matter. Those seeking a spiritual/meditative atmosphere should save $20 and look elsewhere.

Y2 is amazing. Now that they've moved to a larger space, they have both heated and unheated classes which is wonderful. Whether a yoga class is good or not has a lot to do with the energy of the instructor. I've never had an instructor at Y2 that wasn't great at what they do, although I prefer some over others. I think it would be difficult to try Y2 one time and judge the studio; one really has to go for awhile to figure out which classes and instructors they prefer. With a deal like $39 for the first month for new students, it's easy for someone to try different classes and find what they like.
Y2 has the best pricing in Charlotte, especially if you are a teacher or service person. I get screwed over with pay as a public school teacher in NC and normally would not be able to afford to take classes at a nice yoga studio. But I feel so loved by Y2 and the discount they give me as a teacher which is not something I found was true of any other studio in Charlotte. They also have a great cafe with yummy smoothies, wine, salads and sushi, and all kinds of other healthy goodies. The Downward dog smoothie is amaze balls.
I personally prefer Tanner and Jen's classes - they are amazing, but so are Adam, Johnna, Shanna, Dana, Dori, and really every other teacher I've had at Y2. Yes - you sweat and it can get stinky in the studio - it's a hot studio so it's not going to smell like the perfume department in Nordstrom. But once you get over that and see how amazing and challenging the classes are, you'll be fine.
