I have been with Grand Master Cullen since 1992. He is one of the most intelligent masters I have trained with. He is very professional, kind and also thorough. In 2006, I tested with him for my black belts before entering the US Navy. I carry the Cullen legacy with me and his teachings.

I studied with Sensei Cullen amost 20 years ago and have still managed to maintain his teachings through muscle memory to this day. Instant recall in times of trouble before I can even think about it. His teaching really sticks to your ribs and I find him personally to be a Renaissance man and one of the coolest people I know. Worth every penny and more. Just google his credentials and see. Quite impressive.

So I moved into northwest Ohio towards the end of 2011 from Los Angeles where I practiced a handful of martial arts and had a few fights in the ring.. came here with intentions on training towards continuing a fighting career and found myself at The Academy of Martial Arts Studies deciding to check it out there, maybe get some traditional arts in my tool belt.. fast forward 6 years and I find myself with new intentions. This place brought so much to my life being that I came in just looking to get some fights and learn a different art and now I'm a life long student of Goju! Take it from me as someone who's trained in Boxing, Muy Thai kick boxing, BJJ, and have a strong background in collegiate and Greco Roman wrestling... This is by far the deepest art I've been able to experience! The fight logic, the discipline, the strengthening of character... Top notch. A lot has to do with Hanshi Cullen and the knowledge he has in the art..
You gotta get passed his a.d.d to reap the fruit of his teachings... It may take some time (and I swear it's almost intentional to test your fortitude or something..) but I garantee it's worth it. I now truly just find myself looking to grow in the Art taught here and want to grow more into my Goju roots!

I know I tend to get long winded but I want anyone looking to take up martial arts to hear it from someone who's been part of this dojo for 6 years now and has been awarded with a 1st degree black belt from Hanshi Cullen, it's the right place to be!

Grand Master Cullen is one of the top martial artists in the United States and the best in Ohio. Cullen Sensei taught me much more than just how to defend myself. I also learned practical techniques such as, how to jump and roll from a bus because you never know when you are going to slip and fall on icy winter sidewalks. I have known Kevin for almost 40 years and have worked and trained with him during that time, and I can honestly say he is one of the strongest, most proficient and honorable practitioners I have ever met. You see I am one of the original Big Four (along with Kevin) and that is a bond never to be broken. From a parent's perspective, I wouldn't send my child anywhere else! Not only are excellent karate skills being taught, but Sensei Cullen and his team of instructors focus on so much more, building the kids up with life skills useful outside of the dojo, like respect, discipline, self-control, confidence, humor, mindfulness...
