Great gym with an awesome atmosphere. Beyond’s limits has all the equipment you could want in a gym that is hard to find in big box or other pop up gyms. Multiple benches, squats racks, deadlift platforms and two different dumbbell rooms. Belt squat, reverse hyper extension, hack squat, glute ham raise, and several hammer strength machines along with multiple other movement specific machines/platforms available that you’d be hard pressed to find in other gym. It’s unlike any other gym you’ll find in Columbus or even the surrounding area. On top of that is the great atmosphere of people who are supportive and goal driven. Even after a decade and a half of being open, the owner Rich continues to make big improvements including adding new equipment, constantly keeping up with reupholstering equipment, renewing deadlift platforms that get their fair share of use and even expanding the building to add additional rooms and square footage to an already great gym. You can tell he is invested in not just creating a great place to train for us members but also maintaining and building upon what was already the best gym in Columbus for 15 years.

A real gym
3/3/25 edit: I see this gym has gotten a few negative reviews recently. I still stand by it being a 5 star gym. The nature of some of the rooms just lends itself to them getting a little dusty. The owner has clearly done everything he can to maximize the environment he’s working with to create a one of a kind gym. Things always were cleaned properly when I went there. No it wasn’t spotless every second of every single day… but have you seen the building? It’s old! Lol. And if you really have a problem with it, you could always take a tour and speak with the owner about any concerns. Rich was always a nice dude to talk to and clearly knows his stuff as evidenced by his own competition pictures on the wall.

Beyond Limits Training Gym in Columbus, Ohio, has been an absolute game-changer for me as someone just starting my weight training journey. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the welcoming atmosphere and the gym’s commitment to helping members of all fitness levels. The staff is incredibly supportive, offering guidance and encouragement without making me feel overwhelmed as a beginner.
The amenities at Beyond Limits are top-notch and make every visit seamless and comfortable. The clean, well-maintained showers are perfect for freshening up after a workout, and the abundance of water fountains ensures I stay hydrated throughout my session. I also appreciate the numerous bathrooms, which are always clean and accessible. Another huge plus is the spacious parking lot—I never have to worry about finding a spot, even during peak hours.
The gym itself is equipped with a wide variety of machines and free weights, catering to every aspect of weight training. Whether I’m focusing on strength, endurance, or technique, I always find the tools I need. Beyond Limits has truly become my fitness home, and I highly recommend it to anyone, especially those just starting out. It’s the perfect place to grow, learn, and push beyond your limits!

Beyond Limits is a great example of "you get what you pay for". The spaces are dirty, dusty, and grimy. Equipment is either well-worn, broken, or sweat-covered, but you make due for the price.
I rarely see other members wipe down equipment, so I wish management would get a cleaning crew in. All of the equipment needs a deep cleaning as well as a top-to-bottom scrubbing of each of the spaces/rooms.
I've had a very mixed experience with the staff, but for the most part, it has been positive. They worked with me on membership changes and are relatively responsive.
Generally speaking, the spaces are neglected. But the monthly charge fits our budget.

This is one of the worst cases of neglect I have ever seen in a gym. The owner clearly does not care about the facility or its members. Broken mirrors, chipped walls, dust caked onto the stairs, stained yoga mats, lack of parking space, back room doesn’t have heat, and we never get new equipment despite members consistently putting in requests for all the above. The only reason I put two stars instead of one is because the members and staff are great people. I would look forward to the day that Rich (owner) decides to care about his facility and his members.
Edit: owner seems to have instructed staff to clean stairs and order a few new yoga mats which is nice. Hoping other improvements will come soon well! 🤞🏼

Beyond Limits is one of the premier gyms in Columbus, and my personal choice as the best gym for your time and money.
I first came to Beyond Limits as a guest in June of 2024 and quickly fell in love with the culture and environment becoming a member one month later in July - as a specialized gym for serious Bodybuilding and Power Lifting it offers its patrons excellent facilities. The downtown gym on 6th and Long is split between 2 floors and multiple different specialization rooms - most notably a room for Deadlifting and Powerlifting, for Bench Press, and regulation Squats. The sister location also has excellent facilities of the same quality.
The staff is always extremely helpful and on top of the facility, the membership fee as well as guest and single-day fees are very reasonable, and the community of athletes that call the gym home are extremely respectful of each other in a way that's hard to find anywhere else.
Whether you're looking for a forever gym, traveling while on competition and need to get your sets in, or just testing the waters to see what's out there you should definitely take a look here.

I have been a member of Beyond Limits since the beginning of Aug 2025. My wife and I moved to Cbus from STL and were afraid there wouldn’t be any gyms that satisfied my love for bodybuilding. I was wrong! Beyond Limits has all the equipment you could ever need, a vibe that is as close to hardcore as it gets (without being hardcore, if that makes sense), staff that is knowledgeable and nice, and members that are simply good people.
Having competed in bodybuilding for over 20 years, an 82nd Airborne combat vet, and a clinical Cardiovascular researcher, I feel I’m qualified to say this gym is excellent!

I travel a lot for work and this gym is by far the best one I’ve ever visited.
I purchased a week pass and the 24 hour access was great due to my early morning schedule. Really like the off-street parking as well.
Loved that they had Oly platforms, high quality bars and kilo bumper plates. If I ever come back to Columbus O know exactly where I’ll be training every time. Loved it.

I called on 5/6 to inquire about getting a pass for 3 weeks while here on a trip. The associate said I could get a month pass for $45. I clarified 3 times that was for the entire pass. I physically went there today to sign up and the person (someone different) said it was $45 per week then said he’d give a pass for $65 not $45. He made no attempt to communicate with whomever was working yesterday at 7pm. I feel like it was a bait and switch and do not feel they deserve my business or the one star.
————-ETA
The person working did not try to honor the price I was told. I said I was no longer interested because he said it was $45 per week not month. He said that was fine and I left because I’m not going to argue with anyone. I asked the person I spoke to on 5/6 if there were any other fees and he said no, just $45 as indicated in my original review. Thank you for responding and I appreciate the effort to rectify! I have since visited and updated my review based on service today and plethora of equipment including the pendulum and belt squat machines that are hard to come by!

Great Gym but terrible experience with PERSONAL TRAINING STAFF! Had my significant other work with Dr. Terron Banner for a while and it was a joke! He was very unprofessional! Texting late hours of the night about things that had nothing to do with training. Texting pictures of himself shirtless, asking women to come have lunch with him at his home, is not personal training! Stay away!

I have enjoyed this gym a lot. Nothing swanky but offers everything I need as a competitive powerlifter. I am new to Columbus and a friend recommended it to me and I like it.
*Love the staff and since living here now have regular people who lift that are awesome people. I even got my friend involved at this gym and now she started powerlifting as well. The staff are family to me here, when I didn't show up for months due to a loss in my family, they noticed and were very supportive -- nothing but straight hugs and love. Maybe I am too simple of a person but this place is my family and I love them as such.

I’d like them to take some of my membership dues to hire a once-a-week cleaning crew just to do a general wipe down, vacuum, and floor mop. If they did that, I’d have absolutely no complaints and would even consider renewing my 6-month membership. Otherwise, I won’t be going here anymore, but I’d still recommend this place to someone for its equipment, clientele, and staff.
The location is easy to get into and leave from the north side of town—and surprisingly quick via 4th. They have proper deadlift platforms. They have a decline bench press. Only one stair stepper, but it works. If you’re interested in showering here, just keep in mind these are in converted office bathrooms. They’ve got lockers for your stuff, but bring your own lock if that’s what you want. They have two, complete dumbbell racks. It’s a little small, but there’s a floor area to do stretching and calisthenics. They have large loop bands, but not minis. There’s a lot of exposed brick, so be prepared for that.

This place kind of broke my heart because I Always said that the gym has potential it is located in Downtown, the building is nice because of the industrial style, the equipment is good but... here we go
most of the machines need maintanance, it feels like the owner does not care about it , the thermostast is always on 75F during THE SUMMER how is that possible ? it is so sofocating in there AND there are two pedestal fans wich is good because it helps with the air circulation when the gym is full and you can barely breath but guess what ? they are SO DIRTY Omg , the stairs are extremely dirty , how they do not notice that ? , the place always smell bad , the mirrors are broken, the mats are old and dirty. I was going to this gym 5 days per week bc I love working out but it was just demotiving to look around and everything just falling apart. If you like to be around dirt you can go and sign up here lol

Spent a year and a half at this gym. I liked it at first but it got progressively worse. The equipment is not cleaned or maintained. The padding on half the machines is falling apart. Nobody racks their weights or cleans machines after use. Complained several times about these issues but the staff don’t seem to care. The entire gym smells of stale sweat and the bathrooms are disgusting. I finally got tired of it all and canceled my membership and still got charged for another month. What a joke of gym. Good riddance to bad rubbish. Take your money and time elsewhere.

Been coming here for over 5 years now, it’s like family at this point. Staff is amazing, they give it the atmosphere of helpful and encouraging, and the owner puts his life and soul to making this the best gym in downtown Columbus. Over the years any small suggestion for equipment or improvements has been taken seriously and still the prices changed only once, by a few dollars, for membership. From powerlifting to any general fitness, this is the place.

I visited 4 other gyms in the Columbus area before finding this one, and after a short tour i knew right away it was something special. It has an old school vibe with modern equipment. The overall aesthetic of the place really has the feel of a classic golden age gym, evincing a sentimental appreciation for the tradition of bodybuilding. The result is the preservation of something authentic, timeless and essential that is completely lost in most modern gyms. There is tons of space, any machine you could want, and during the slow hours you practically have the whole place to yourself. And it's only 50$ a month. A gym like this is very rare in any city. It has something for everyone, but it is a love letter to those who really love to train.

Came for a killer workout while in town for the Arnold Classics. HAD A GREAT BACK WORKOUT. Came in and paid for our day passes. The man at the front desk was very nice and he gave us a brief tour around. Things are generally sectioned off. Used one of the bathrooms upstairs and it seemed ok. Didn't use any cardio machines or free weights- just a lot of machines and the cables. Not overly crowded on a late Sunday morning. They do have a parking lot behind the building. 24 hour access available. They do have 3day/week passes for during the Arnold which is a nice offer.

Spent ~6 months training here. It’s a solid place to workout if you’re into powerlifting/bodybuilding and it’s very affordable. The staff are also very kind. There are a few things holding me back from rating this higher.
First being the equipment, some things like kettlebells, slam balls etc. are very limited. The cardio equipment is also limited, they have 3 assault bikes (the control buttons are broken on all of them) and 4 treadmills along with an elliptical. The treadmills are super worn, the belts on them look like they’ve been DIY repaired, and I was only able to use 1 to run on because I would constantly trip on the other belts.
Second is cleanliness. They do an okay job surface cleaning the open spaces, but you can tell they cut a lot of corners in other aspects. For instance their locker area had numerous dust rabbits (bunnies would be an understatement) under some plastic chairs in the locker area, and more can be found around/under treadmills, racks and benches.
Overall, if you don’t like running and don’t mind dust/dirt when you’re working working out then this place is a solid option.

Great gym to be a part of! They have 2 locations but I've only been to the downtown one. They have everything you need in a gym to make real progress along with many nice and helpful people working and going there. Great atmosphere. -1 star for cleanliness... there is dust lining the walls like it has been there 10 years, hair and dust in corners and under equipment, and upstairs definitely needs vacuuming. I started working out here in September of 2019. It was my first time in a powerlifting gym and worked out until I moved away in April. The staff helped me learn, made me feel included, and the crowd at the gym were really helpful. I came to look forward to seeing the crowd there. It was rarely too crowded, and people were always willing to answer a question, but didn't take themselves too seriously. What they said during my club tour was quite true: if you're serious about your fitness/lifting, this is the place to be. I saw great gains here and I would recommend it in a heartbeat.

Both of Rich's gyms are top notch. The magic is in the variety of people who go there and who stay. Professionals, competitors, weekend warriors, stay fit enoughers, people losing weight, people just moving around. Old, young, pretty and not so pretty. You never feel out of place unless you're comparing lifts and that's not why you're there anyway.
Have been a member for 4 or 5 years, never once raised my fee, so I never once wanted to cancel my membership. Even through the lock down. Highly recommend.

So first i want to say that this was the best gym in Columbus I been to so far. Great atmosphere, good people, kinda small but had all the equipment i needed for the most part. Downside, i'm military so i leave alot. After my year was up I filled out the cancellation form, adv a month in advance and paid my last month dues and turned in my key card. Couple months late i am informed i was sent to collections for missed payments for months after i cancelled when i didn't even have the key card to use the gym, plus not even staying in Columbus at that time. Sad cause I liked the gym and planned on going back. Tried calling but I get no answer. Not good business.

I have been training with Rich at Beyond Limits for the past 6 months and would highly recommend Beyond Limits to anyone looking for a gym, workout facility, or personal trainer in Columbus, especially downtown Columbus. I have been a member at numerous gyms in Columbus and this is by far the one I have liked the most. The gym has a real community feel to it. The staff and members seem genuinely interested in your success and often offer encouragement. If I ever need a spot I have no issue getting someone to help me, and if I am not using proper form a personal trainer or member will come over and work with me. Also, don't even try to not warm-up. You'll be immediately treated to a list of reasons you are supposed to warm-up. I encourage you to give them a try if you are looking for a gym or personal trainer actually interested in your success.
